Omega Taskforce #4

Obsidian Fleet

Rate this book
Led by the powerful super-dreadnaught known as the Titan, the Sa’Nerra continue to push back Fleet lines. Humanity faces annihilation at the guns of a mighty alien invasion armada, yet internal struggles within Fleet and the United Governments add new dangers.
Despite his success in recovering genius scientist James Colicos from the clutches of the enemy, Captain Lucas Sterling is forced to pay the price for disobeying orders. Transferred to the Special Investigations Branch under the command of its Machiavellian head, Captain Vernon Wessel, Sterling suspects foul play. And he’s not wrong.
Meanwhile, Admiral Griffin, stripped of her position as head of Fleet military forces, has gone missing. But as the mastermind behind the Omega Taskforce, Griffin has a backup plan in the form of the mysterious new Obsidian Fleet.
Things come to a head as the brutal and merciless Sa’Nerran invasion armada attacks Fleet’s most vital outpost, again forcing Sterling to break ranks and go it alone. Their only hope is to develop a defense against the alien neural control weapon that has already turned dozens of Fleet ships and thousands of Fleet crew. But Sa’Nerran Emissary, Clinton Crow, is still hot on Sterling’s tail.
This time Sterling and the Omega crew of the Invictus must venture into enemy territory without the support of Fleet forces. Wanted and on the run, Sterling will do anything to ensure that their mission succeeds.
The Omega Directive is in effect. And never in the history of war has its callous and cold-hearted doctrines been more necessary.

CYA, Captain Sterling!🐺👊💪🔪🔫

ADULT Military Sci-fi Space 💫Adventure 🚀with Betrayal

The first third of the book was slow slogging for me, but then the action started.
Fearless Captain Sterling🐺👊💪🔪🔫 finds his mojo in the second third and the running ,ground commando style battles👊💪🔪🔫💥 begin, then move to space🚀💫 in his fleet, super ship, Invictus🚀.

His core crew of super soldier, Commander Banks💃👊💪🔫🔪 and Lieutenant Shade 💃👊💪🔪🔫 are still with him and are of course, indispensable in covering Sterling's a$$, and protecting his back.

Fast paced doesn't begin to do justice to just how crazy of a ride this book was! Just when you didn't' think things could get worse, they did, and when Sterling and his crew managed to escape by the seat of their pants, it was only to find themselves in another impossible situation! This book found them revisiting a few spots they had been before and going father off the approved path than ever before.

I love the balance of action and humor on Ogden's books. Sometimes things get really dark, but these are not books that take themselves too seriously, and even with the coldest, hardest necessities of the Omega Directive, there is a kernel of compassion - or maybe they are just cracking. Hard to say. Great read and a story line I am truly enjoying!

This is book 4 in the Omega Taskforce series, and while Ogden is excellent at choosing good stopping points for his books, including tidbits of info for context, and each has a strong complete plot line; they all build towards the larger overarching plot as well and draw from previous books. For the best experience, read this series in order.

In spite of his successes, our hero is still in trouble for disobeying orders. But with the enemy continuing to advance, it looks like he is going to have to disobey again.

This is book four of the series, but it works pretty well as a standalone. You will be missing some of the background that led up to this point, but you can figure out the basic elements pretty quickly.

This is an intense, fast paced military SF story. The story is very well written, with a lot of depth to both the setting and the characters. The plot is intense and fast paced, with lots of twists and turns along the way that keep you on your toes and unsure what is going to happen next. I found myself intrigued by the world and drawn in from the beginning with a story that is intense, exciting and very engaging. Overall, it was a fantastic read and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Highly recommended.

Still an excellent series.

I like the pace of this book, plenty of action but the two main protagonist could have a little bit more character interaction. They remind me of a well-balanced team. It’s obvious that Lucas and Mercedes care for each other but the author seems to let that hang in the wind, maybe it’s a British thing, stiff upper lip and all that. I really liked this crew even the one that has been removed in this book. Yes he was awkward but for shame.
We readers don’t like characters we enjoy being killed. I am sure I’m not the only one who’s gonna write about this, again maybe I am. Reviews will tell. Still can’t give it a five star review because no chairs on a spaceship is silly. That is my One of two grapes. The second one is Lucas always seems to lose his guns in a fight. I wonder if that’s a British thing as well. If you like space fleet action, ground action, fast pacing you will enjoy this book.

Humanity's end is near

Captain Lucas Sterling, commanding the Fleet Marauder Invictus, is tasked with saving Earth and humanity from the relentless Sa'Nerran and their turned allies, once human, now enemies. With the abilities of his crew, Sterling will obey the one admiral he still trusts to help defeat the enemy, although he couldn't count on her to keep him and his crew alive if their deaths served her purpose. Admiral Griffin has one goal - defeating the Sa'Nerrans. And anything that served that purpose was all she wanted! Their new orders just might get them all killed, or turned.
Great characters and an amazing storyline are artfully combined to deliver a great read!

Things are just heating up even more as Fleet and the United Governments fight, Fleet does its usual thing and screws up everything and our Captain Lucas Sterling must survive it all and figure out how to win yet again and fight for humans against the enemy and itself again. Lots of fighting, twists, turns, surprises and Sterling being his awesome self. Just another great story in the series that kept me on my toes and wildly entertained throughout it all.

Great characters, great story!

I really enjoyed this, despite it being the first in the series I've read. There was a bit of the backstory missing coz I haven't read the first three but even so... Lots of drama, intrigue and adventure are more than enough to hold any readers attention and the fast paced story certainly holds your attention.

Sterling and his crew, despite success have been reprimanded and placed in the SIB. They soon find themselves framed and forced again to break the rules, for the greater good. Back in the void, looking for a way to stop the mind controlling effects, they meet some old friends and enemies. The series is continuing to grow, to what will hopefully be a big final battle.
