I came to this story excited to read another work by the same author of the Magestic Series, a total of 6000 pages of time travel and literal worldbuilding. This however, was nothing near as engaging or well written. The entire 300+ pages of this first book was basically the Lad About Town, being sexy and magnetic with his three blonde triplet girlfriends. If that sounds like a male masterbatory fantasy, then yes, it very much is. There are sex scenes basically every 4th page and that honestly feels like a conservative estimate. I'm no prude, but this wasn't advertised as erotica, and I think anyone who reads this would agree that it deserves the tag. The pacing was outright embarassing compared to the nonstop action of Magestic...here there were basically 3 lines actually relevant to what I assume is the greater plot about reincarnation and angels, buried DEEP behind all this repetitively alternating modeling shitck-sex scene drivel. If you're reading this, I advise you to check out the Magestic Series by the same author--Jimmy is such an enigmatic and larger than life character, unlike playboy Roskov here. Oh yeah, and the old fashioned views! 'Booo, make-up bad, tattoos bad, gays icky, I'm such a good person who doesn't drink alcohol, look I prefer a quiet lifestyle and therefore not REALLY a playboy *winkwink*'. The story is set in '95, so maybe attitude of the times, but it feels so condescendingly it almost loops back to comical. I'm gonna try for book 2, just because Magestic was so good, but man I hope it's better than this.
So far I've read 21 volumes of this series. Generally it has good editing and a fascinating storyline containing mainly criticism of the Thatcher years in Britain and some supernatural events. As the series goes on it looses a bit of it's initial humour and gets a lot more repetitive by explaining or applying the same basic concepts, sometimes even the wording, over and over. The rate of new ideas introduced in the story seems to be declining from volume to volume. So while the first volumes would rate 5 stars, the last ones are worth only three.
This author doesn't do anything to promote on Amazon so always have to look him up. Was looking for a new Wilco book but was surprised had so new books in a new series. Then read the discretion was very suspect. Wow was surprised how much I liked. Was like a early wilco eats g younger stupid boy series. It Kindle Unlimited so give it a try. Also G younger has his box sets now in KU. Only series I finished then started all over.
This is a very fun book. Our hero is truly a hero. Rags to riches, man of the people with a good heart. All the main characters are interesting, all with their own quirks. Great plot and an introduction to a strong story arc. This was a really enjoyable read. (I've now completed the first four books, all great 🙂)
Not what I was expecting when I started the book I would almost call it slice of Life. This is my second time reading the book I'm looking forward to reading the next 10 books in the series. The romance is not fade to Black so if you're easily offended by that this book is not for you. I highly recommend it as an entertaining read
Another fun read from a very entertaining Geoff Wolak. A local football (soccer) hero graduates from high school and finds himself inadvertently detoured away from his intended summer job as a one time photo op for his uncles business brochure leads to a new life and new friends. Lots of good natured humor and a little sex to keep you warm. An easy but interesting read.....
To be honest, I downloaded this book by accident. However, I decided to read it anyway and I’m very glad that I did. The story is interesting and so are the characters. Highly recommended. And, I’m also really looking forward to reading the next book in this series! :)
Great story with a pretty cool MC he's smart and makes good decisions that affect him and the people he cares about. Some action some spicy stuff and besides needing another pick through by an editor for grammar\translation in a few spots its a book worth checking out. Heading into book two now.
Well written fast paced, and covered some beautiful locations. MC has some awesome talent, and luck. Exciting coming of age story set mostly in England and Europe. Looking forward to enjoying the series!
Don’t have a specific reason or reasons why I like this series but I could not put them down and I read all six one after another. If it wasn’t for the need for editing I would have considered 4 1/2 stars if that was possible.
Well told the about an exceptional 19 year old boy!
Recent high school grad from London suburb falls into a modeling job and is soon making Mercedes commercials with a big name actress. Well written and humerous.
Excellent plot threads, not a repetitive plot line for each book like some series. A mix of historical fiction, paranormal that blended very nicely. I’m disappointed that it ends after 20 books. Well Done!
Rostov the MC is one of the most arrogant unpleasant characters I've read in a long time , I've read similar series that we do much better with pleasant characters.
I downloaded a sample of Roskov. Read a bit of it. To my American ear the writing sounded like a Russian thug writing in English as a second language. So I sent it back. After exhausting my reading list I decided to give Roskov a second chance. It began to grow on me. I grew accustomed to the writer’s style. Who knew that British “common” English was such a novelty to my American reading experience that I wouldn’t recognize it as just an English dialect. Ah well, my bad. I’ve read everything in the series now. And I like it a lot. Give it a good read. You’ll like it too. Mr. Wolak isn’t the smoothest writer in the market. But he tells a good story with solid characters, imaginative and thoughtful, with socio-political acumen. 4 1/2 stars for the series so far.
I bought this book on the strength of all the other books I've read by Geoff Wolak. It started off, a little like the first book in the Wilco series, but that didn't last long. It wasn't long before the story took off in a completely different direction to Wilco or Magestic (one of my all-time favourite series).
Roskov takes off in a completely different direction to many other books I've read. This shoots off into the world of modelling, TV ads, beautiful women, a bit sex (Ricky Roskov is a fit 18 year-old lad, but not too much) and business.
The book sets the scene, as it were, for the first part of the series, which starts to kick off about half way through the first book, then takes it up a notch with each subsequent book. By the time you get to book 7 the only thing that you're thinking is WTF.
The thing with Geoff Wolak's books is the amount of research he puts into the stories he writes. There is a great deal of detail, but the way it's given to you, is very natural, almost like having a conversation with a friend, and you know that you need to understand the background in order to understand why certain things happened and why certain choices were made.
Geoff takes stories, rumours and gossip from newspapers and spins them into a very convincing story, that almost convinces you, that if it isn't true, you'd certainly not be surprised if elements of it were.
All-in-all I love the series, can't wait for book #27 and the rest to come out.
