Samiah is used to living on the inside looking out. Along with her sister, she endured years of torment at the hands of her now dead brother, and now that they've finally found a place to call home, thanks to her sister mating with a wolf clan chief, she hopes to finally belong.

Except, she doesn't. Not really.

While her heritage may hold some hints of the shifters she's come to know and love, the missing pieces leave her feeling as on the outside as before. But hopefully there's a solution to her incomplete genome, a secret she's been working on that can finally give her a true connection to her wolf, in its real form. Is it against clan law? Probably. Does she care? No. She's tired of not being who she truly is.

Now all she has to do is realize her plan while under the watchful eyes of not one but two wolves, both of whom have decided she belongs to them and they're willing to share, and the gaze of another who would take everything from her.

NB Samiah is the sister of Valeena from Nothing but the Wolf in Me.

Note: This is book 2 in the Black Valley Wolves series. It can stand on its own and is a complete relationship arc for Miah, Cree, & Far - however, I’d personally recommend reading Nothing but the Wolf in Me first.

I was already in love with Cree and Miah from their interactions in book 1. When Clarke decided to add Fari I was admittedly skeptical. MFM is usually my least favorite polyam - however, I ended up really loving this story and devouring it in one day. Cree’s concern about failing Miah, Fari having loved her from afar, and Miah’s wish to be fully wolf made for an emotionally charged read. I was in tears several times as they worked through everything they faced individually and as a mated group. At the same time, I didn’t feel that Clarke needlessly dragged out angst. Her balance was perfect.

There’s a little bit of a romantic suspense element, especially at the end. The introduction of Byron, who gets his own book next, was great. He didn’t take over the story but I’m definitely looking forward to him getting an HEA. Overall, a great read and I’m looking forward to checking out more of Clarke’s work.

Maddening Miah

Samiah is still left out. She wasn't an enforcer like her sister. She wasn't a criminal like her brother. She's not a wolf like Cree. Always on the outside looking in. She can't even have her mate because he won't claim her without the dream. So, this breakup is going to get her everything she wants: time alone to work towards what she has to do to get what she wants. Only Cree finds out she's headed to the village alone. And then Fari finds out the same, as well as her single status. And now her alone time just went running into the woods.

Spoilers ahead.
While softer than Valeena, Samiah is no less determined. Two years she's waited on Cree to claim her fully. She's done waiting. If he won't claim her all the way then she'll find a way to drag her wolf out of her skin, kicking and howling. If scenting her as a full wolf doesn't jump start the dream then she'll know for sure. But at least it won't be limbo anymore. I admire her aplomb but her ignoring the others' feelings hurt to watch. Cree could have spared himself a lot of pain by explaining his family history, too. Communication works both ways. Cree and Fari talked and worked together better than they communicated with Miah. Cree kept trying to coddle Miah instead of treating her like a full partner. I will say, at least the insta pregnancy line was tossed. While there was a pregnancy, it wasn't immediate. But, here's the questions I am left with at the end:
*Miah doesn't have a gland. What she did will eventually flush out of her system since she can't produce it on her own. Will it continue once it wears off? Or after her pregnancy? Since apparently moms get the baby's/babies' hormones through the placenta.
*If there's no wolf genes to activate, how would it force a shift in humans? It would only work on humans with dormant wolf genes. So why the concern? The majority of humans consider wolf shifters book and movie characters.
*If she shed fur in the woods, how did the guys basically stand right over it and not discover it? Super noses, right?
*The guys constantly sniff her. To sense her emotions. To track her. To check health. The instant her scent shifted, or disappeared, they'd have noticed. Only they didn't. Those super noses seem to be selective.

There are parts of this series I really like and enjoy. Some parts don't gel as well as others, though. The characters are interesting, fun and complex. They are most definitely not 2 dimensional. The world building is a new slant on familiar tropes, which adds to the story. And the layered plots continue without losing threads, or leaving some abandoned. There's just a couple holes that need filled. Wait, that sounds a bit dirty...

2.5 rounded up.

Blahhh. I did not like this book as much as the first one. A couple of things rubbed me the wrong way...
1. Why did Cree thought it was acceptable not to tell Samiah the real reason why he would not take their relationship to the next level for two whole years? it's ridiculous.
2. I hated how Cree and Fari seemed to make all the decisions without her and just letting her know what's up later on, starting with the idea of being a trouple. They literally both showed up, had sex with her and then told her "yep, we gonna share". That's crazy. Also, those first sex scenes just seemed painful. Did she really need to be a virgin, that was a choice...
3. I could not understand why Samiah kept her project secret. Plus, they both knew she was lying but just accepted the fact that she was a bad liar...

These people needed to communicate more... I almost DNF but i'm not mad I made it through. It was an okay read. I would probably read Byron's story if it comes out eventually

DNF at 60%. I’m always down for a ménage bit this one didn’t work for me at all. I skimmed. A lot. I believe that Cree is in love with Miah but Fari?!?! I needed more bios up. Not 5 pages of build up and then a sex marathon where 2 out of the 3 are virgins.

This is how you get in trouble

The emotional things that Miah go through are so incredibly heartbreaking. I love so much about they female characters in this series, they have their insecurities but they’re faith in their minds and abilities makes them amazing. It’s these types of stories that have me looking at my husband sideways lol also I love the potential for other stories this book created. I’d love to read a Deon story. But I’m excited for book 3!

More Like For Herself

Miah was part wolf and lacked an identity. She underestimated herself, her abilities and the love others had for her. She felt like she was less than and missed out on the wolf experience. This fueled her research and desire to be “whole” in her eyes. She wanted to be all wolf and was willing to do what it took to be that. I don’t think she really counted the costs or consequences of her actions nor did she really consider the feelings of those that loved her. It was all about what she thought and felt, what she thought others thought and felt, not taking in the reality of what was in her face.

Granted waiting years for a true wolf confirmation of the love connection between mates can definitely mess with your self esteem, then finding double love and still can feel and express it as a wolf is disheartening. Also, seeing all of the things you can’t do but another female wolf can is rough. Growing up in fear and bondage, not having family outside of her sister who cares. Then finding out you’re part wolf but can’t manifest it. Being reminded every day that you are the outsider, don’t belong, and can’t relate because you lack some abilities of your wolf.

However she was loved unconditionally. The true mate bond is definitely a looming concern for their future. The what if of it all. I admit I wanted to shake the hell out of her for her decisions, I understood her reasons for doing it, but I hated the loss that was suffered.

I can’t wait to see what happens next in the clan and if the loss is recovered.

Great read!

3’s Good Company

For My Wolves by Nikki Clarke is about Samiah, shifters Cree and Fari. Samiah and Cree have been together for 2 years but Cree refuses to go all the way with Samiah physically until he has the dream that confirms that she’s his fated mate. Samiah is tired of waiting and decides to leave Cree, heading up to the cabin for the summer. While she’s there she plans on finding out how to fix her wolf genome so that she can finally shift. Fari has been caring for Samiah from the sidelines for years, he decides now is the time is to go after what he wants! However not without encouraging Cree to fight for Samiah. Cree and Fari are not jealous of each other and they take it as a sign 👀 They decide she deserves double the love, protection and pleasure! Samiah loves Cree but she’s always been attracted to and intrigued by Fari. Once she gets the go ahead from Cree she gives herself completely to this thing between them. Whew 🔥 they are all so hot 🥵 the chemistry!! I love that Cree and Fari are completely different so they create balance. I wish Cree had communicated with Samiah on why he initially didn’t want to take the next step. Samiah stressed me out with her studies!! Overall this is a great story, sweet, sexy & suspenseful!!
P.s. I wonder what’s next for the Black Valley Wolves

Interesting

I really like this author, Ms. Clarke has really good stories. The writing was great but I couldn’t connect with the story. I had a visceral reaction to the ménage, not because I am opposed to the idea It was my feeling that Cree was too soft in that he treated her like she was a porcelain doll that would break. After two years he was afraid to claim her because of what happened with his parents. I just felt like he should fall back because life is not a guarantee plus clearly in the time they were together they didn’t discover who each other were because Miah grew up having to be tough and he never thought to tell her why he was afraid to claim her outside of the need to have the dream. I thought she was better with Fari, because he had a rough exterior and didn’t baby he. Plus I love a good sex/love scene, but they never had anything else except her sneaking to experiment with her shifting serum. I hope to see the development of Deon finding a mate and where’s Byron and what if there’s a bigger threat to the wolves? I’m here for it.

Loved it

So I think I love this one better than the first although once again I did not like all of the typos. I will say that Miah what is the most annoying character ever and pissing off more than any character that I have read in recent months. I loved her men however and the overall storyline but she was annoying it made more than her fair share of insanely stupid decisions. Her decisions didn’t even make sense when her sister never shifted until she got pregnant I would have thought she would assume she would also shave once she got pregnant. All the extra stuff was just unnecessary for her to continue with. Shorty arrived at her parents didn’t make any sense to me either. I can since she probably added them in because it will be a spin off with them but they really didn’t serve any real purpose in the store in line.

Fari and Cree want Samiah and are willing to share. Samiah wants Fari and Cree but is tired of not being a real wolf. So she makes a plan to change that, but fate has its own designs.

This is not Clarke’s first rodeo with a triad, but I love that it was a different take than what I’m used to. Fari and Cree are friends, but not those type of friends. The relationship they end up having with Samiah is not something they have ever done before. (I guess that’s the Reverse Harem aspect, but I generally don’t read those).

I would definitely recommend this book, and I hope that Clarke continues with this series. So if you like wolf shifters, triads, and science experiments, then this book is definitely for you.

Book 2 of 3

I am a Nikki Clarke fan from the Conjure Street Boys and Lyqa series. I read the first book just this series a while ago, and I remember not liking it. So, I hesitated to read book 2 when it came out. I’m glad I went ahead and picked them out when they came across my feed this time.

Book 2 is about a supporting characters from book 1 and is about a polyamorous triad. There are some plot carryovers from the first book, as well as characters but I was able to enjoy it without the full backstory. Ms. Clarke is a great storyteller and her level of heat is always enjoyable.

Part two of this series and Samiah pissed me off. Her need to feel her wolf and shift could have been a dangerous thing for herself and the clan. But I do have to admit she is brilliant. I also knew that Dr. Bernard was up to no good from the first mention of him, but I do wish his part had to substance to it. He barely got to eh the villain . And poor Byron. Him and his scent mixing worked a little too good. Let’s just hope the outcome for him in the next book is a good one. Oh and Deon, I’m on the fence about her. So let’s see how book three plays out.

Good Book

I really enjoyed this book And the 1st one in the series. I'm glad I found this author. Just found her today. I'm an avid reader and I like reading about people who look like me and I like paranormal romance. unfortunately I found that it can be hard to find paranormal books starting AAs. This book was well written, had awesome story and character development, and was sexy without sex taking over the story. Can't wait for the next one.

Great characterization of not belonging and searching for something. The reason for the boyfriend not willing to commit was a unique perspective. Some honor, I get that but they doing everything but, come on. Great science, plot, action. Too much getting to know new people and intertwining from other books though. I think the story was longer than it needed to be for possibly that reason. But it was good and I enjoyed it. Steamy.

Yum! Yum! Double the fun!

I'm glad Samiah and Cree got their own story. Very glad they let Fari join! The plot twists, new characters, and tiny taste of danger kept me so engrossed in the story and turning the pages, I was shocked when I came to the end of book and found myself hanging off the cliff! I hope there's another book that will rescue me and not leave hanging! LOL!

This was a good continuation of the series. It introduced us to the first triad. Again, lots of sex, a bit of angst and some action. I did like that the author attempted to throw us off with the introduction of a single female wolf. We were left with a plot hole so I’m hoping for a final book to wrap things up.

Book 2 of this series. Honestly this can be a standalone as well. But I loved it. This one had my emotions going a little bit. I felt for Samiah. She had a lot going on in her mind and emotionally. This story had less action than the first one but definitely was in a way more deeper when it comes to the feelings and emotions these characters were having.

Great!!!

I enjoyed this!! Great story building and character definition!! I was up half the night trying to see what was going to happened!!

The only thing. I believe she kinda rushed the great ending. I believe it could have been epic if it was not rushed!!

Even with that being said. I loved it!!

Sizzling 🔥🔥🔥

Ms. Clarke outdid herself with the tantalizing love scenes. Let’s just say, little Miah was getting more than enough! Definitely a different twist that is only acceptable in the context of the shifter world. I enjoyed the change.

not as good as the first

Miah lucked out and got her 2 hot wolves. But all her plotting and planning nearly backfires. I liked it. I liked the guys. It’s just, sometimes you want to smack some sense into the characters. I would say 3.75 stars
