Rate this book
A young woman named Julia has just finished nursing school. The year is 2021 and there is a pandemic going on. She gets a job at the local hospital and meets Brett Farrington. They fall madly in love and get engaged. They decide to get married in Hawaii where on a tour of the island Julia and Brett get separated. Julia finds herself drawn to a cave and when she touches the back wall she travels back in time to 1941. She meets a young man named Kenny and quickly finds herself head over heels in love with him. Then tragedy strikes with the battle at Pearl Harbor. Kenny manages to barely survive and asks Julia to marry him. Julia tells Kenny that there is someone else she needs to talk to as she tries to explain her time travel experience to him without sounding crazy. Julia goes back to the same cave in Hawaii and tries to get back to her own time but ends up back in 1917 and is amidst the battle at Vimy Ridge. A man named Peter ends up on a gurney that Julia is in charge of. She quickly learns that Peter is Kenny’s father and she must save him so Kenny can be born. During the battle, Julia herself gets injured and is sent home with Peter and other injured soldiers. Peter takes Julia back to his home and she meets his wife Abigail. Julia explains she needs to get to Hawaii to try and reunite with her family. Peter and Abigail decide to help Julia on her journey. While on the road in North Carolina Julia is drawn to yet another cave. When she reaches the back wall and touches it she is transported back to her own time in 2021. Julia calls off her wedding to Brett, realizing that Kenny has stolen her heart. She goes to the cave in Hawaii and once again goes back in time to 1942. She searches for Kenny, learning he went home on leave. She travels to his parent’s home only to learn that Kenny is in Normandy, France. Julia finds a way to be deployed to France and is reunited briefly with Kenny before he has to leave with another unit. Julia doesn’t see him again and a few weeks later gets sent back to the United States. Julia once again goes to Kenny’s parent’s house and learns that Kenny didn’t make it home. Julia is devastated. She finds the cave in North Carolina again and makes it back to 2021. When Julia learns she is pregnant, she is unsure if the father is Kenny or Brett and decides to marry Brett and let him think the child is his. Julia has the baby and knows without a doubt it’s Kenny’s baby, but Kenny and Brett shared enough traits that no one else could tell the baby isn’t Brett’s. She and Brett live happily ever after.
