GOP 2.0: How the 2020 Election Can Lead to a Better Way Forward for America's Conservative Party

Rate this book
GOP 2.0 is both a book and a movement that unites people around a common view of civility and freedom. GOP 2.0 puts policy over politics. It aspires to make Americans great. It’s about Geoff Duncan’s “P.E.T. Project,” reviving the party with conservative Policies, genuine Empathy, and a respectful Tone.

“I’m not the only conservative in America who wakes up wishing the past months were just a bad dream. I’m not the lone Republican who feels in my gut that our party is following the wrong path. And I’m not alone in believing there’s a better way forward.”

As Lt. Governor of the State of Georgia, Geoff Duncan never expected to find himself in the national spotlight – or in the crosshairs of the President of the United States. Then the 2020 Election and its aftermath brought the nation’s attention to Georgia. Amidst a hurricane of conspiracy and misinformation, Duncan spoke up for truth, conservative values, and the Republican Party he knows.

Duncan had a front row seat as Georgia endured a long nightmare of fraud allegations, Presidential coercion, a dual runoff that flipped the U.S. Senate, and election reform that sparked national protests. He called for reason and principle even as Donald Trump viciously attacked him. He fought for “the silenced majority,” current or former Republicans who yearn for a party that can reclaim lost ground and leave behind the politics of dishonesty, disorder, and division.

GOP 2.0 is Geoff Duncan’s vision, forged by his unexpected struggle for the party’s future. In his words, “GOP 2.0 is not a new party – it’s a better direction for our Republican Party.” In this refreshing and reinvigorating new book, a leader who has been through the fire lays out a better way forward, one that lifts up reasoned ideas, expands the party, and positions the GOP to win back the White House in 2024.

I liked this book, but it was nothing mind-blowing.
I reside in a very liberal internet space, so I'm trying to read conservative books to get a better overall understanding of the country. Throughout the book, I really got the feeling that I wasn't his target audience, who already believes in conservative policies. This book's strategies should apply to all of politics. Regardless of party, we need more kindness and honesty to bring people to believe in us. I guess I'm not any more convinced of conservative ideology, but Duncan's voice is uplifting and I hope more people with a personality like his help lead the country.

Geoff outlines what I believe the true silent majority wants from our government leadership. Primarily honesty and trying to solve problems rather than holding on to power. I admire his courage to stand up to Trump and most of his own party over the 2020 election lies.

If Republicans want to win at the national level or purple states, Geoff outlines a solid strategy. I am past Reagan Republican, turned Independent, turned Democrat (after 2016 results); and I would vote for Geoff if he was running again. I think there are a lot of people like me who are not ideology-driven but simply looking for pragmatic solutions.

Regardless of policy; accepting facts, truth, and following science is something the Republican party has to do in the long-term. I am finding Biden and the progressive wing of the Democrats are pretty far to the left of me in policy. However, given a choice between Trump who is a traitor to democracy; I will always vote Democrat.

The last four years have been a Dantesque voyage through the political Inferno. Duncan shows us the way out, guided by the last great leaders of the Grand Old Party, mostly Regan. He demonstrates that the way to Paradiso is through policies that "trump" politics, through honesty, empathy for our fellow human beings and a tone of respect and sharing. The Republican Party must become the party of ideas, ideas that benefit all, not just a party of opposition. His is a message of Hope. He (and I) yearns for better days in which we can together as Americans enjoy the fruits of the Great City on the Hill.
An aspirational message for Conservatives and for the leaders that are going to take us there.
A must read!

I was in total shock and surprise over the events that took place during the months closing out the 2020 election cycle. During all the chaotic events the Georgia Lieutenant Governor, author of this book, Geoff Duncan, stood out to me given how he handled his circumstance. For that reason I was excited to pickup this book.

Geoff provides an insightful introspective view on how this chaotic period of time played out from his position. He shares his point of view for not only in the moment, but shared how his life experiences and story laid the foundation for how the moments he faced played out. While there are definitely political stance points provided in this book I would classify this as a solid leadership book. Not the glamourous I am a hero type leader, but how to lead oneself, family, and others in difficult times. What I enjoyed most was the vision he showed on what he thought the Republican party could become to stay relevant and grounded in the traditional conservative principles of the parties history. It's unclear at this point if his vision will gain the buy in from the Republican leaders and be supported by the public who much select the candidates. I do think leaders like Geoff stand the best chance for all citizens in our democracy.

My brother-in-law, a liberal Democrat, lent me this book that he bought to know what “the other side” was thinking. Geoff Duncan, the lieutenant governor of Georgia, represents conservative Republicans with his “P.E.T. Project.” He writes about reviving the GOP with specific conservative Policies, genuine Empathy, and a respectful Tone, as well as specific ideas for a new conservative base. He also writes about his experiences with and accusations from ex-president Trump from an objective point of view.

Duncan’s life story—baseball player, then businessman—is also compelling and inspirational; he deserves the pride of his family and his friends, as well as the votes of his state and beyond.

I picked up this book because I was interested in reading a conservative voice concerned about our nation's political culture. I appreciated Duncan's autobiographical account of the experiences, formation, and values that led him to oppose Republican efforts to overturn the 2020 election and criticize the direction in which the Republican party is heading. I also found his emphasis on honesty, civility, pragmatism, and coalition-building in government and public policy to be sensible and appealing. The book did little to sway my overall political convictions, but did provide some hope that there are sensible conservative voices who desire to address the meaningful and urgent issues facing the country and its people.

Are you wondering if there is any morality left in the Republican Party? Well, it seems there is at least one good Republican left. If the GOP operated according to the principles espoused by this former Lt Gov of Georgia, I think we would all be better off no matter where we fall on the political spectrum.
