Five Island Cove #7

The Seafaring Girls

Rate this book
Journey to Five Island Cove for a roaring good time with friends old and new, their sons and daughters, and all their new husbands as they navigate the heartaches and celebrations of life and love.

Jean Shields is devastated when the adoption she and her husband were set to complete falls through. Besides her solid-as-a-rock husband, her only solace is her two dogs, her sewing students, and her new friends in the women's group her mother-in-law has introduced her to.

Alice and Robin want to help Jean, but they don't know how. Alice is dealing with a pregnancy scare, and Robin is trying to help her oldest daughter navigate collegiate options.

AJ has the best advice, as she's lived most of her life childless too. But her own baby is requiring more from her than she ever imagined. Eloise provides food and offers Jean a job at her inn though she's drowning to keep her head above water there. Kelli brings her son to Jean as much as possible, but it's not until Kristen convinces Jean to spearhead the new Seafaring Girls program in Five Island Cove that Jean starts to find some purpose to her life.

Kristen is consulting on the program, as she ran it successfully many years ago, and her heart is happy as she watches a new generation of girls learn to love the sea while staying safe on it.

But when someone returns to the Cove no one ever expected to see again, old wounds open just as they'd started to heal. This group of women will be tested again, both on land and at sea, just as they once were as teens.

This is a well written book that is full of emotions. It has just enough drama to keep you turning the pages. This group of ladies show the true meaning of friendship and support each other through the good times and bad. An excellent read!

This book tells us why female bonding and special friendships matter. Five friends, all their troubles shared and resolved within the friendship and the privacy of their circle. The emotions are real. The characters are great, the wide-open sea setting, excellent for unraveling the spirit of the story, and the plot is wonderfully refreshing and believable.
Four worthy stars.

The Searfaring Girls sucked me in like I had never left Five Island Cove. This is the seventh book in the series and I'm happy to see there will be more! All the seafaring girls who are solid friends for many years are front and center along with Kristen and others they've embraced into their group plus spouses and children. We catch up with all of them and see what they are up to now. The children are growing and high school graduations and college planning abounds. Many are entering new chapters in their lives and others can't understand where they are in theirs.

There were many stories being told and they were nicely woven together. There's a new generation of Seafaring Girls this time led by Jean, Kristen's daughter-in-law and it was nice to see the baton being passed. There are laughter and tears, love, fear, anger, sorrow, sadness and lots of businesses and jobs. There are milestone events along with wonderful descriptions that made me feel like I was there. There are twists and turns to the story along with some darkness and light. There are many get togethers that keep the friendships cemented. There is nice closure but enough loose ends to bring us to the next book in the series. I for one can't wait!

Ms. Newton is an author whose books I've enjoyed in this series. I'm looking forward to reading more.

I rated the book 4.5 stars but rounded to 5 stars here and on other sites.

I can not get enough of these ladies, they have become like family and the roll with the punches so well and when tested they band together. Seeing Jean going from hating the island and the lighthouse to now having a group of women who when devastation hits can turn to when she needs help and supporting her, AJ is reaching her tipping point and due to the ladies knowing her so well they gently nudge her to gather the strength she needs and without knowing it provide the reassurance she needs. But that's not all the ladies are dealing with, their is more than one unwanted visitor, surprise find as well as a change of address and new comer that most are not happy about.

This is the first book I've read from the series. It was a standalone book where I didn't feel I was missing details or information from previous books. However, it was so good that I want to go back and read the others. These ladies and their individual stories are amazing. I like how some of them knew each other from when they were kids/teenagers to how others were welcomed into the group in their adult years. Jessie makes each of the ladies unique and they all have their different lives and stories. I look forward to reading the rest!

It’s like coming home when I read a Five Island Cove book. The female friendships in these books are what we all want with our own girlfriends, sisters and mothers. They show us that we can have differences and still love each other and lift each other up. This story was no exception. I do believe these books need to be read in order, but I also believe you will fall in live with AJ, Alice, Robin, Eloise and clan.

This is book seven of the Five Island Cove series and centres around all the women who live on the various islands of the cove, who have either been joined together through their being part of the same Seafaring Girls group back in the day, or been invited to join in with them on their weekly lunches and by marriage and friendship. Jean Shields and her husband Reuben, who live in the lighthouse, have just received the devastating news that the aby they were only weeks away from adopting, was now going to another family member to be raised. Jean can’t have children of her own and left everything behind to follow Reuben to the island. This news has devastated her and left her feeling without any purpose in life, apart from her few sewing classes. Her mother in law Kristen asks her again, if she would consider taking over the new responsibility of the Seafaring Girls Group, that are to be restarted shortly. She tries to isolate herself from the other women, but that never lasts for long.
All the other women have their own issues to deal with in this story, with children growing up quickly and going to prom, a pregnancy scare, children shortly becoming adults and deciding upon college fro after the summer, with others getting used to a new baby and another becoming pregnant. The latter of which is a hurtful reminder to Jean of what she has lost, even though they don’t want to hurt her. Add in some older children and people from the women’s pasts returning in strange circumstances, amidst lots of secrecy, feelings and tempers are getting worn out. A sudden surge of people wanting to buy and rebuild the Friendship Inn, bring worries for many, especially for Eloise and her business. Jean makes her decision, aided by advice from Kristen, to resurrect the Seafaring Girls, and at the end of the story, the old girls group together to help the new girls when disaster strikes. Close bonds and friendship are explored in the tale. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

It was such fun returning to this series.  It was like meeting up with a bunch of close friends I had not seen in awhile.  I enjoyed catching up with the girls and finding out about their lives and all of the surprises, heartaches, and drama.  I enjoyed all of it.  I liked that parts of the story made me happy, parts of it made me sad, and parts of it had my heart pounding and quickly turning the pages. It was also interesting to find out who had returned to the island and why they were returning. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

Wow!!! So much happening in the lives of this friends and their families. Changes galore - good and bad. Visitors, coming home as well as some leaving home. I always feel like I am one of the gang and right there in the middle of all that is going on. Really enjoy seeing them together but always learning things about them as individuals. Each friend is so different but have their place in the group that makes them all fit together. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

another great book

another great book in the seafaring girls series. The support that runs through these pafes shows you what friendship is meant to be like and how to embrace the support that comes with so much friendship. These lasies rally together and around each other when one is weak the rest are there to pickup the pieces. It is so heartfelt and meanful to have a group od ladies as your backup. I felt pulled into the book. I couldn't put it down. I felt like i was apart of this group. i definitely recommend.

Friends and family!

This is a story about friends and how they depend on one another. It started as a group of five and a mentor and has grown to a larger group. They welcome newcomers to the Islands into their group, as well as boyfriends and later husbands. Each woman is an independent woman, but it proves that women need friends. They all have lives and families and the usual problems we all face. They help one another when needed but they are not afraid to challenge one another if the need arises. Good women’s fiction.

Enjoyable Reading

Great characters. I've enjoyed this entire series and anxiously await book 8. The writer has shown much insight into individual personalities who, despite their differences, can remain loyal, trusting and enduring friends. I would recommend these books to any reader who enjoys good reading written without violence and explicit sex, and the importance of families and friends in our lives.but

AJ, Kelli, Jean, Robin and Alice are best friends on five island cove and this book is next in the series of their lives and losses, their husbands and children their bond. Jean takes the new Seafaring girls under her wing which is how the friends all met when they were girls. Lovely read and I could relate to some of the issues raised. Looking forward to the next in the series. You'll be hooked once you start

The ladies in this island group love and support each other through everything in their lives. The joys and heartaches are always better when shared. Exes and estranged family return to the Cove.
There are a lot of lovable, interesting characters in these books but well worth getting to know them.

Such a great story! Once you turn the first page you can't stop turning the remining pages. You easily fall in love with the characters as you get to know them with every turn of the pages. They're people you feel like you've known them for years. A great escape from every day life.

Years later they remembered what they were taught

I enjoy reading about all of the characters in these books. They have created a safety net always there to support each other. They remind me of my very close friends from high school . I look forward to the next chapter in their lives with Friendship.

I have enjoyed reading this series of e books thus far. I like how the different characters grow in their relationships with each other as do relationships in real life. I can almost picture in my mind the interactions and scenery of the various islands that make up Five Island Cove. I look forward to the next book. Audrey M.

Good writing! Even though each chapter was devoted to a different Seafaring Girl and their long ago leader, it was well written, clearly defined as who each chapter was focused on. Even with all the secrets coming out that affected each girl and their leader (and longtime friend), this book was fast moving and interesting.

Such a fantastic story, it made me smile at the strong friendships but they also had difficulties as with all relationships. I felt scared as I read about the storm and the group of seafaring girls on the water. It was heartwarming at all the support and love from the friends and their spouses. This is such a fantastic series I have loved reading all the stories.

Growing Up

I am in love with this series! These women grow, love, argue, hug and growl just like in real life. They've expanded their friendship circle and they embrace and empower each other. So much happens within the cover of the book.

Now to impatiently wait for the next ~

Awesome book

Totally enjoyed this series but sad I have to wait almost a year before I get the next book. It really makes it harder to pick up where you left off after so long. Plus characters are forgotten.
