A dragon princess who can’t shift or control her fire, Dalinya finds solace in flying a helicopter for Alaska Forestry fighting wildfire. When she accidentally drops a bucket of swampwater on a firefighter, she isn’t expecting to discover that the hapless victim is actually her fated mate. This definitely wasn’t the first impression she was hoping to make.
Hot-tempered and foul-mouthed, Leona has no patience for fumble-fingered pilots and no time for a relationship...until a gorgeous woman with an unbelievable story makes her reconsider everything she thought she knew about magic and love.
Fire Control is a short, steamy lesbian paranormal romance romp, originally published in Her Wild Soulmate charity anthology and later included in Shape Shifters Vol 1 (both out of print). This version has been revised and expanded.
Elva Birch is an author of the impossible and irresistible. She is a fire dragon Gemini living in Alaska who belly dances outside at twenty below in the winter and loves to find tiny fairy moss worlds in the summer with her camera.
Elva also writes SHIFTING SANDS RESORT, GREEN VALLEY SHIFTERS, and FAE SHIFTER KNIGHTS as Zoe Chant.
What a great treat it is to read this revised and expanded version of Fire Control, a passionate short story of a wounded dragon shifter discovering her soulmate and regaining her wings. This striking story is a favorite of mine from the Charity anthology, Her Wild Soulmate, which is, sadly, out of print.
I liked Leona's tell it like it is,and take no prisoners attitude. She had me rofl. Then, the unthinkable happens and hearts get involved. I liked that Dalinya found her inner strength and actually rose to the occasion in an emergency! Cute story.
Fun short f-f novel? Yes! The journey to the end of the book is not long,so this is one book to read in one seating. If you enjoy the fictional, meet under funny circumstances, you've got it. I love the short banter between Leona and her workmates. The sex scene was on point too, not too vivid and still the connection is there. If you want the happy ending for the i-don't-wanna-be-in-a-relationship girl, you found it!
A sweet lesbian novella that ties in with the Royal Dragons of Alaska series
Meet the sister of dragon shifter royalty living in Alaska. This is the story of how she met her mate. The ties to the other series are only hinted at as this story happens in a world of firefighters and helicopter pilots all fighting forest fires. A very sweet and short story worthy of being part of the series that focuses on the brothers meeting their mates.
I first read this in the anthology, “Hers at First Sight”, and it was one of my two favorites in the collection. Just as good for the reread, I’m putting this on my best of the year list.
I absolutely loved the idea of a d**chebag fund! Scratch that, I freaking loved this whole story—so much that I would have considered my money well spent for the anthology for this story alone. All the emotions and suspense…chef’s kiss.
A short, steamy FF story full of fire. Great characters, moderate spice (though I’ve never read FF books before, so what do I know?!), loved the story line, focus on the romance and the fire rather than the paranormal… which was accepted so easily it was simply a different normal, which was a nice change. I read as part of the compilation Paranormal Ever After as an advance reader copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Good short! This is a fast and furious short story about fated mates. Dalinya is a dragon shifter, who cannot shift. And Leona is a firefighter allergic to relationships. How can these two possibly be fated to be together? Fate always finds a way... This is an enjoyable short story that is worth your time to read.
Swamp water aptly named! So funny but so dangerous. It's a short but cute story. What does a shifter do when their mate doesn't want to be a mate... Rescue them of course.
You know you found your own treasure when you get to the last page and wish there were 30 more chapters. An interesting couple for sure- dragon meets firefighter, throw some swamp water to douse their flames = hilarious meet cute. Loved this quick read and excited to read more by this author.
Fire Control: A Lesbian Dragon Shifter Novella ( Birch Hearts)
Dalinya and Leona's story is a delight to read. Both women's careers and adventures keep the reader locked in. You will want to know their happy ending. Enjoy!
This was good and I really enjoyed it. Being a short story it didn't have the character development that a full novel would, but I still found myself rooting for Dalinya and Leona.
Cute , quick read. A little shifter; a little fated mate. An easy convinced human about otherworld. Some fire action— a lot of smoke. Easy read if you have nothing else to do.
