Immortal Trickster, Luke, is starting a fresh life in a new-to-him seventeen-year-old body. With yet another lifespan stretched out in front of him, he’s questioning what purpose his endless compulsion to play tricks serves.
Agnar, a Thor look-alike claiming to be his adoptive brother from the planet Asperian, appears to declare Luke has been away from home too long. One problem. Luke doesn’t remember Agnar or living on another planet.
With more questions than answers, Luke cautiously agrees to accompany his “brother” back to Asperian, but the travel portal rejects him, leaving him behind to continue his mundane life of trickery. When interplanetary soldiers show up intent on killing him, he’s forced into hiding and his list of unanswered questions grows.
Will Luke remain trapped on Earth forever, pulling meaningless pranks? Or will he finally figure out his true purpose?
Thanks for your interest in my books and me. I love talking books with readers and hope you’ll share your thoughts on my books by leaving a review and/or dropping me an email. It’s easiest to get a hold of me through my website (kaistrand.com). Perhaps you clicked on my bio to find out things about me, such as I hate to handle raw meat, I’m a wife and mother of four, a compulsive walker, and a Mozart fangirl. But since you stopped by, what I really want you to know is that I love that you read. Readers are smart, quick-witted, and usually good conversationalists—even if it’s only in their head. Introverts unite!
I write middle grade fiction because those are the most formative years of our lives. It’s when we are trying to claim our freedom, while still being restricted by rules. The things we learn in books can give us the skills to navigate that maze. I write young adult fiction because there are no limits to what message I share or how I share it. Plus young adult readers are some of the most passionate readers out there. I heart YA readers.
If you’d like an image of me as a writer, go ahead and picture me with my laptop in a quaint bookshop café, fingers flying over the keys while the words pour out of my fingertips. It’s much better than the real image of me in my pajamas with coffee breath, sinking into the me-sized crater in the couch, grumbling at my laptop when the words don’t come.
Wow what an amazing story! It was filled with great characters and so many twists and turns that made me want to keep on reading. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the series develops.
Luke is drifting through his life times, he doesn't know why, but he gets a thrill from doing pranks, especially on those he deems deserve it. He has to make sure not to draw too much attention to himself, otherwise he will need to set a new identity. He gets a visit from Agnar, who claims Luke is more than just a mere human. Will Luke remember who he is? Can he outsmart the interplanetary soldiers hunting him? I loved Luke, he just wants some harmless chaos and possibly to remember more about who he is. I look forward to him having more adventures.

Luke is the bad boy/trickster you can't help loving. Kai Strand has created a fantastic new story of fantasy, romance, action, and mystery. I can't wait to read what happens next for Luke in her next book!
Kai Strand is an author who has the ability to weave a story in a beautiful way that just flows and she is able to create characters that draw you in to the story and make you root for or against them. This book had a great story that worked perfectly as it was unique and despite being very much fantasy based it made a lot of sense. The author is able to create perfect worlds and visuals but during the story mentions how a character looks like a character from a comic franchise and for me there is no need to do this and it is a little bit lazy and frustrating but despite that I really did enjoy the book. The other thing that somewhat annoyed was the very end of the book which I won't spoil but even with this it is only a half mark off.
This had very consistent storytelling from start to finish.
Apowerful main character. I liked the way the author set up the novel and that she made sure to give the reader plenty of information so that they came to understand the world she had created.
I liked that this novel is written for Young Adult readers, but can be enjoyed by all fans of Fantasy.
It’s a vivid world that Kai Strand has created and stayed true to from beginning to end. It plays out like a movie in the readers mind. There is plenty of action and mystery. I loved the mythology and how it really blended in with the fantasy world. If you are a fan of young adult, fantasy, or mythology, you won’t want to miss this.
Kai Strand has written a descriptive novel that does a great job of pulling the reader into the world she has created. The flow of the novel was well executed and everything as far as pacing went felt smooth.
I enjoyed the characters. They all felt like they had their own purpose and had a depth to them.
The first book in the Trickster Series, An Unwitting Trickster, by Kai Strand is as fun mash-up of different genres that totally work together. First and foremost it's got a heavy dose of mythology in Luke's backstory, one he's largely forgotten, as he's been an immortal trickster among humans for so long. There's also a layered love story, a touch of mystery, and a lot of action. A page-turning read with a satisfying ending that will also get you excited for the next book!
