After years of constant criticism, I finally escape the alpha of the strongest pack--my father. It’s a chance to have a new beginning, and to live on my own terms, in my own way.
The first day at college, I find more than what I bargained for.
My fated mate.
Something that any wolf rejoices in finding. Except he’s forbidden--a human. The weakest race on Earth and someone my father would kill without any hesitation.
Choices must be made, and loyalties will be tested. With everything on the brink of destruction, only one thing is certain... my life will never be the same.
If you can't get enough of books by K.F. Breene, Kelly St. Claire, Annette Marie, Shannon Mayer, Leia Stone, Jaymin Eve, and Laura Thalassa, then you'll love this urban fantasy romance.
Reading has always been one of my favorite hobbies, even as a little girl. When I was a toddler, my parents would read stories to me over and over. I would hear them so often that I had the books memorized and could recite the story word by word.
My favorite genres are fantasy, paranormal, and contemporary romance. So of course that's what I'm inclined to write.
I have a husband, two young daughters, and a mini Australian Shepherd. I've lived in Tennessee the majority of my life and love the state.

In my reread of this series, I actually really loved it.
Whether or not you decide you want to read this, let me tell you a few things. Jen’s writing is like a cozy blanket, it makes you feel warm and comfortable. Reading this book made me feel that way.
Also, if you decide that you don’t want to read this, well, I am not gonna say “sucks for you, your missing out on a good story!” That’s your opinion. You can look at my review and you can look at someone who gave it one star, it still wouldn’t matter. Either way, your looking at two different contrasting opinions. Which one you like or want to believe is completely up to you.
But as for me, I absolutely adored this whole trilogy. Every single book in this series is my favorite.
Sadie is a very bubbly and sweet girl. I loved how she learned to stick up for herself and make her own decisions. She also has a tight knit group of friends who support her every move, and I rooted for her all the way. She’s like my spirit animal or best friend.
Anyway, I loved the world building. The supernatural species, fated mates, magic, and everything combine to give you a adventure packed urban fantasy romance.
The friend dynamic was so exciting and well built. The characters are memorable and walk off the page and into your lives. They are realistic and well written, almost to the point that you can see them in the same room with you.
This was a breath of fresh air and really shows how far Jen has come into her writing. In fact, I loved her other books as well and I highly recommend this one.
I wasn’t a fan of any of the characters & I didn’t care for the plot. Her sudden ability to teleport & unexplained magic wasn’t adding anything to the story imo. She was a pushover.
Hidden Mate is the first book within The Wolf Born Trilogy. In this, you will meet Sadie. Now she is very happy to be in college because that means she's finally away from her father. He likes to think that he's the alpha of all supernatural's. It's not really true but whatever helps him sleep at night, right?
Of course, she has some pros and cons while at school. One, her best friend Roxy is with her, and she has to deal with the annoying Alpha Heir, Brock. Ugh. Brock. I hated him. There's also the twist of finding her potential mate. Even though her dad is pushing Brock on her, she winds up falling for a human. Which, yes, is a no-no in her dad's eyes. Humans are weak and would therefore make her weak. Blah blah blah. He's annoying and needs to go away.
There's lots of drama and little action towards the end of the book. It honestly felt a bit rushed and I'm not sure what to say or think right now. I wouldn't necessarily call it a cliffhanger, but she ends up leaving her pack. Then sort of becomes her own Alpha. I definitely have questions and hope that two certain people are safe in the next book.
I've read other Jen L. Grey books and enjoyed them, though they weren't that great. This one was just a whole new level of bad, every character was pretty unlikeable and the plot is downright weird and nonsensical but not in a good way. She randomly gets weird magical powers out of nowhere and there is no explanation. The romance is poorly developed too. I expected this book to be better than her previous books because it was published very recently, but i was very wrong.
So, you are the heir to a powerful alpha and he let's you go to college. Sounds amazing right? The only problems.... he makes you take someone you can't stand along with you, oh and humans are being drained close by, you really, really like this boy... but you know he's human. Just your typical college experience right?! This is a new series from Jen that is pretty good and has some amazing storyline happening. Can't wait to see what plays out
Sadie is thrilled to finally be able to leave her pack and her Alpha father who's treated her with contempt and disdain her entire life. The only way he agrees to let her go is if obnoxious and conceited fellow Alpha-heir, Brock, goes with her to keep an eye on her. When she can't keep her mind of the human, Donovan, she doesn't realize why.
The book was really good. I loved all of the colorful characters from shifter wolves to vampires to fae. I really liked Sadie, the FMC, and Donovan, the MMC. Adored Sadie's BFF, Roxy. Wish Donovan's BFF, Axel, had a little more page time when he wasn't being a jerk. Even in the other 2 books he was kind of a background character.
All 3 books are solely in Sadie's POV. The angst level is low. Though each book the angst level rises higher and higher.
Imagine this: you finally talk your overbearing parents into getting to go to college. They have one condition.... Brock goes with you. I was immediately engaged in this idea. This book reminded me of the Sun and Moon Academy set with Kristie Cook as they have a similar vibe to some of the other shifters. Sadie embarks on an entertaining discovery of self and what's going on around her. I loved it. Can't wait for more.
I received an ARC for this book. What a great beginning to a series. Fated mates, vampires, shifters, and magic. Action and romance. I couldn't put the book down. I really loved the characters. Sadie is a strong woman, that her father likes to belittle. Donovan is a strong man that has had a hard life. The two of them are fated to be together. Fighting it never works. They are stronger together. I can't wait for the next book!
There may be spoilers. I have rarely given a book one star, but this one deserves it. There is no world building, the characters are one-dimensional, the dialogue is juvenile and stilted and the author ended the book with a cliffhanger. The book is not appropriate for pre-teens but anyone over that age will likely be put off by the talk of vamps and nose boops. There is a fair amount of profanity as well.
Because the characters are so one-dimensional, I found it impossible to feel any empathy for the protagonist. I read the second book to see what happened. That book also ends in a cliff hanger. As I finish the second book, the protagonist is in a difficult situation, and I can't bring myself to read the third book.
If you want well written shifter stories, read books by Elizabeth Hunter or Patricia Briggs. Once you do, you'll realize just how bad this book is. Don't waste your time with it.
Great cast of characters, good storyline, lots of action. A little light on the feels, actually, but something has to be sacrificed, and I suppose action over feels is an okay exchange.
I had one issue, albeit a minor one. The blurb teases that Sadie was treated like she was worthless by her father and she mentions how exactly he treated her in only the vaguest of terms. And from that we’re meant to understand that she’s learned to manage her father’s moods, modify her own behavior, and submit. And although we see some of her father’s ruthlessness in the action of the story, I think learning more specifics upfront about Sadie’s upbringing and how that shaped her behavior and herself as a person would have been useful. We’re meant to see that Sadie undergoes this great change, learning to stand up for herself and for what she thinks is right over the course of the story. However, she rebels against Brock’s control from the very beginning, and even against well-intentioned comments from strangers (Donovan and Axel), so her character reads as strong from the start. So, we miss out on that great personal development story arc by not really knowing a weaker version of her.
I really enjoyed this book! It falls in the new adult/college paranormal romance category which I haven't read much of since I was that age, but I was still able to get into the story and care about the characters. Sadie & Roxy are great and I love the loyalty and friendship their share. I really like the relationships and connections between the characters (romantic, platonic, adversary, etc). I think the author did a great job of balancing the humor and the darker moments, and I was happy with the ending even though it's a cliffy. I definitely want to keep going with this series.
Sarah does a great job with the narration! I could easily follow her characters as she was very consistent with the way she performed each one. I really like her voice for the male lead and thought she did a great job keeping the story moving. I was happy with her pace and versatility, and was easily able to do this book in one go. Really good audiobook! 4/5 story, 4/5 narration ❤️🎧❤️
This one kept me guessing until the very end! I loved the conclusion and can't wait to see what happens in the second book. This is humorous, entertaining and absolutely unputdownable!
Sadie and Roxy are the total bestie package. They have each other's best interest at heart. I love the inclusion of their new friends who brought even more to this book. Sadie has some self worth yet to still be discovered and you can see how she's ready to stand her ground.
We see some very dominating male characters who are just so easy to dislike. They need a comeuppance and I can't wait to watch them be cut down. I seriously wanted to reach into this book and smack the baddies around just a tad bit.
I love the entangled bit of the hidden mate. Very sneaky and so well executed! Jen L Grey has penned another exciting shifter series!
I love everything this author writes and I have been so excited for this release. This is the first book of a brand new trilogy. Yet again Jen L. Grey smashed it! Her books always suck me in from the first page and I can never stop till I completely finish.
Sadie the FMC heads off to college to get away from her toxic father and pack. She is joined by her BFF and a horrible Alpha Heir that her father assigned to her. Of course things don’t go smooth for her..... holy wow so much happens. I got mad, I LOL’d, and wanted to throw my phone at times. I won’t post spoilers but I definitely recommend this book! I need book 2 ASAP.
Sadie and Roxy are new to the college scene and are trying to get away from Brock's hold. Brock is wanting to marry Sadie to join the two main wolf packs. While they are both alphas, Sadie's place is below Brock's because she is female. Sadie and Roxy make some new friends - supernatural of course. A couple vampire girls and Egan who is a different type of guy. The group together are fun and I love how they have each other's back. Sadie's love interest makes his appearance but there is still a mystery behind him. Sadie grows in this book and recognizes her power. Story is steady paced.
Which is what I expect from this author. She tells a great story. It’s about the characters and their relationships and the struggles they are going through. Not just full of gratuitous sex. Don’t get me wrong, it has its steamy moments, but that’s not the sole focus.
I love the side characters as well. Roxy is fun, I love Egan, the vampire girls are great friends. Brock is the perfect asshole that you love to hate. Seriously, what a douche (as he’s called quite a few times)
Hidden Mate is the first book in a trilogy that must be read in order. So don't be surprised there is a cliff at the end.
Sadie and Donovan's story is unique to the genre. Its rare to see the female know about supes and the male be human and has to learn as he goes. This one has unexpected twists that the reader won't see coming.
Read to find out what happens when Sadie finds that her true mate is human and not all supes are as she was raised to believe.
He bounced his leg and ran his hands through his hair. He nibbled on his lip, and his face softened as he faced me. “Two double burgers, huh? Want to become a fat-ass?” This from the love interest?!? Nope. I have read and liked quite a few of Jen L Grey’s trilogies but I was already on the fence with this one. FMC’s characters is all over the place. The angry tension between the main characters feels forced. This line just solidified this series isn’t for me.
This is the first book in a new series "The wolf born trilogy" and follows Sadie as she starts university.
I enjoyed the storyline immensely, from the angst to the drama, to the villainous moments and threats of violence.
The characters were all quirky and unique. Sadie and Donovan stole the show of course, but Roxy comes a close second with her humourous comments. I would of loved a little more depth to the story, as this was a surface skimmer really, but that might come in the second book.
All in all a very enjoyable read from start to finish.
Wow what a roller-coaster. I was so excited while reading this! There where some people I won't mention names who really got me mad! The friendships in this book where wonderful and the love interest ❤💕♥ fantastic. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
Could not put this down! Jen you’ve created another awesome story and more amazing characters and I can’t wait to learn more about them, especially Sadie. Those mysterious powers of her’s, hmm, maybe her mother’s side. OH I CAN’T WAIT FOR BOOK 2!! ‘
I enjoyed reading the beginning of this series and most likely will read the other books. It was nice to have a different perspective presented on how the supernaturals lived among the humans and with each other. The story line was completely different and kept me guessing and intrigued.
Told from Sadies POV, who is born to the alpha but as she is female is deemed as weak. Her father allows Sadie to go to college on conditions but she meets her human mate which is a death sentence from her father. Her father is like the mafia mobster and commits murder if he deems it necessary. Sexual content. Recommended
Ok first up and I'm sorry if this offends anyone but I hate the name Sadie, its so 1950s and just not a strong name. Now that aside I really enjoy this book, would love to get more of Donovan's background. Definitely think dragon boy has more up his sleeve and Sadie's mum must have Fae in her is my guess.
I really wanted to love this, but I just didn’t. The writing just wasn’t up to scratch (lacked world building), the characters were kinda flat, and the plot jumped all over the place (set in a college but we heard more about meals in the cafeteria than anything else).
Wolf shifters have always been my favorite and this one is awesome! Then you throw in vamps and a dragon as well and I'm a happy reader! And the angst was incredible! Can't wait to see where these characters go from here!
