This one is hard to rate. I liked some parts, but other parts were confusing. The plot has so many inconsistencies, but I couldn’t put it down either. There’s a lack of worldbuilding which makes it hard to follow along. (this may be provided in earlier books) For those looking for a rejected mate story, I’d say it doesn’t really fit the mold. The rejection isn’t really a rejection, and it was missing any feels. (for me at least) The mc’s are in their 30’s, but they seemed immature giving it a YA vibe.

We open with Tala receiving a visit from Asher Eastman the new alpha of her old pack, and the man she desperately loved that broke her heart. He wants her to return, she doesn’t, but she eventually does. (this is all in the Kindle blurb)

My biggest issue was being unable to connect to the story. There were so many inconsistencies and things that weren’t explained that either distracted or confused me. I’m still fuzzy on major parts of the plot like her job, the timelines, female getting animal spirits, when shifters recognize their mates, and their separation deets. I really need to understand the situation (have the facts) to engage in the story. This is tough when they are constantly switching. For example,

🛑SPOILERS🛑

spoilers……

🕳️ The rejection was inconsistent. We know that 15 years earlier, a 16-yr-old Asher went into the circle to get his animal spirit, walked out a wolf, and approached his GF (queen mean girl) Sakari. This devastated an 18-yr-old Tala, so she took off with her dad. Ok first, this situation doesn’t sound like a rejection, it sounds like an unrequited crush. Further confusing things, we get conflicting information.

At one point we’re told that Asher’s wolf always felt a connection to Tala, and that he urged him to find her (after the shift), but then Sakari got in front of him. BUT, later we’re told his wolf was in control and he didn’t remember anything from that night (which is consistent with Tala’s change), and that his wolf told him days later to follow the trail of my mate’s scent, but it disappeared. BUT, we’re also told that he didn’t realize that Sakari wasn’t his mate until she got her wolf spirit. AND, we’re told that mates claim each other immediately. (when Tala wakes up claimed with no memory) BUT, we also get this… “Would you have claimed me then? Or would you have stayed with Sakari?” The muscle in his jaw twitched. That’s what she thought.

So, which is it? Did he know if he had a mate or not? If he knew his mate’s scent, why didn’t he recognize it when he visited her. If they claim mates immediately, why would his wolf mention it casually days later? Why would he have stayed with Sakari had he known Tala was his mate? These are the facts I needed concrete, so I could determine if I believed in their HEA. It’s a HUGE deal because if he knew, then he continued to date Sakari after knowing he had a mate. If he didn’t know, and only realized when she got her animal spirit, then I need to know when that was because 15 years is a LONG time for him to be involved with OW.

🕳️ We’re also told different things regarding to his relationship with Sakari.
He thought he made it clear months ago he was done with her games. For years they’d played the on again and off again tune, and she blamed his wolf spirit for the lack of commitment.

“Because I have not been with Sakari in a long time, and now I know why. It has troubled me ever since you left.”

So, how long has it been, and isn’t this something important to discuss? Was it months or years? Did he start to pull away 15 years ago or when Sakari got her spirit animal?

🕳️ Even Asher's own attitude towards Sakari switches throughout the book.

He cupped her cheek, running his thumb over her lips. He loved Sakari. After all their years together, the bond of friendship would always hold a strand between them. “I’m not yours, Sakari. You must move on.”

She could manipulate the moon if he allowed her.

Asher remembered a time he basked in the attention of ladies. His eyes always ventured one place, Sakari, and if he’d known then her heart was black as the wolf inside her, he wouldn’t have wasted so many years playing games with her.

He wanted to help her find peace with the Great Spirit’s decision. It might not be what either of them chose, but who were they to question…

The woman liked to cause trouble.

“Would you have claimed me then? Or would you have stayed with Sakari?” The muscle in his jaw twitched. That’s what she thought.

A flash thought of Sakari sent his wolf on edge. He quickly shoved it away. She had no right in his thoughts anymore. (while he’s fooling around with Tala)

As far as this pack is concerned, Sakari is never to step foot on pack lands again.

There was pain radiating in his soul, and for the first time, he noticed it wasn’t coming from his concern for Sakari. While he cared for Sakari, he never loved her, not entirely. She’d never made him feel whole, not the way Tala did when she was near.

Taking one last look at her, he sighed and cupped the back of his neck…. “Goodbye, Sakari,” he said just low enough that only he heard himself.

He spent so many years learning to dodge Sakira’s whining, pleading, and hanging on him where he went….

“You love her.” “That’s not the point.” “But you do.” …. “I won’t lie, Tala. I care about what happens to Sakari. Once upon a time, we had a thing. But Sakari has a fated mate, which is why I helped him arrange to move.

"I wouldn't have banished Sakari if I didn't want you.

Bottom Line- This had potential. I thought the bones were good, and the wannabe OW was awesomely evil… but Asher needed A LOT more work. I’m all for a H redeeming himself, but I need the h to be #1, and I never felt that happened. There was just too much extra stuff shoved in (the mom, the brother, the shifter pups, etc.) that took away from the good stuff… the rejected mate part. Things were so good at the 70% with that epic showdown, but then rather than focusing on Asher groveling- like he should’ve been… it switches to her going to Canada.

There was a little bit of the angst that I love in this one. I wasn’t feeling the love between the MC’s, unfortunately. This story had great potential. I liked the setting and world building. The plot could’ve been great with a little more follow-through. The multiple spelling and grammatical errors detracted from the story. I wasn’t sold on the H at all because he never seemed truly committed to the h. He never told her he loved her and he treated the OW with more regard than he did her. The OW and her sidekick never got their just desserts. I rooted for the h and felt she deserved better from the H including some serious groveling. It seemed to me that she just settled for what she could get.

Rejected Wolf
By Suzanne Roslyn

Since the book has no description on GR for those interested here is the one from Amazon:

He needs her to find the lost wolf spirit of her ancestors.

Hurt and rejected, Tala fled her home and her pack years ago. Forced to return to the shifter reservation, Tala must face those who bullied her for her size.

The one man who shattered her heart is now the alpha, and he needs her help. Her brother is missing and a new danger lurks outside Evergreen's borders, but is Tala willing to risk herself for the one man who rejected her long ago?

Tala is tired of the constant hurtful comments from her pack and her mother about her weight. When her fated mate, Asher, rejects her for Sakari it's the last straw. With no wolf inside her she is not bound to the governments rules concerning shifters being restricted to reservations so she leaves to find a life in the outside world as a human. When Asher, now alpha of the pack, tracks her down for help with her younger brother he puts her in a bad position getting her suspended from her job. In the end helping out her younger brother does not bring the desired results and instead alienates her brother and half the pack and more.

I did enjoy this book. I really liked Tala. She was a sweet and strong woman trying to do the best she could with what she had. Asher on the other hand I had a hard time liking him. Even up until the end he never denied he still loved Sakira. And he never once told Tala he loved her.

Asher didn’t deserve Tala and it made my heart break for her because I felt she was settling for getting what she could with him instead of getting what she deserved. That wasn’t a HEA. It was an I'll settle for what I can get. I want to close the book knowing without a doubt Asher will never even think of Sakira again and that Tala will forever be his world. Instead I felt sad.

Another total doormat heroine and an asshole hero. The hero demeans, rejects and let her down time and again and still he keeps forgiving and going back to him. Don't bother reading. Nothing but a waste of time.

Tala left her mother's home and went with her father 15 years ago when Asher rejected her. She has been working with the government to help her people when he comes looking for her.
Left with little choice, she returns to help her brother through his ceremony, but things take an unexpected turn, Asher claims her as his mate but Sakari is still there. Tala's brother goes missing, and because her secret has been revealed, she has lost her job. Does Asher wish he had mated with Sakari? He does seem to protect her when the two women fight.
Will Tala be able to get home again, or will she be sent to another camp by the authorities? Will Tyee be safe? Will Tala and Asher have their happy ever after? Loved it, and cant wqait to read more about these characters!

I *wanted* to like this a lot. I *tried* to like this a lot. The writing wasn't bad. The editing wasn't horrid. The plot was reasonably well done. There were just a few things that I couldn't get over.

SPOILERS AHEAD!

1) the hero had sex with her for the first time, knowing that she was completely unaware, unconsenting, and would have no recollection of any of it. And was ok with it, and defended his choice with every expectation of her accepting his reasoning. And... apparently she did? After having living as a human, among humans, for oh, uh, MAJORITY OF HER LIFE. Her behavioral norms should have been pretty human. As a human.... I would NEVER be okay with unconscious sex.

2) after having objected to the aforementioned sexy times..... he did it again. Granted, while in wolf form, but again... he had full retention of his cognitive abilities, and knew that she had NO control of her cognitive abilities, and again would have no idea it had happened, or any recollection. How is this hot, or ok? The first three times they have sex.... she has NO IDEA it occurred. It's no different than sexing up a chick when she's blackout drunk. Yeah, totally want that in my romance novels.

3) Not just the sexy times occurred without her knowledge or consent though. HE MATED AND MARKED HER, again, without her knowledge, consent or participation. In a fated mates shifter story, the mating is... you know, kinda a big deal. The main attraction, as it were. And the author chose to make this the absolute least romantic, shadiest, grossest mating possible for this pair. She woke up having been sexed and marked with no recall of any of it happening, with a dude she was NOT in a relationship with, and NOT on good terms with.

4) towards the end, he breaks up a dominance fight between Sakura and his "mate". Whut? In what shifter world that has ever been written is it ok for a dominance fight to be interfered with? And then to try to make me believe he had no idea what he could have done wrong? As the head of the pack hierarchy.... one would think he'd be more well informed as to the do's and dont's of challenges.

4A) please note I scoured that chapter for an apology. I didn't find one. He never utters one word of apology. Instead, he gaslights her into realizing that he protected Sakura for the FMC's own good.

5) after that fight goes wrong, but just before she rolls over for him without grovel, she pushes him about him loving Sakura. And he agrees. Her: "You love her". Him: "That's not the point". Keep in mind people, this is in the home stretch. This is where we are supposed to be sold on their great romance and relationship. I'm.... not feeling the love here. I'm feeling two people stuck with a fated mate bond who I guess are going to try to make the best of it.

6) the concept of having ancient wolf spirits who recall their previous lives was really cool. But there were huge, gaping holes in this idea. Starting with: FMC's wolf knew that Sakura's wolf had come between her and her mate's wolf spirit for centuries. Wouldn't this stand to reason then, that ASHER's wolf spirit should have known that Sakura's wolf spirit had been sabotaging his mate bond for centuries as well? Seems like there was a whole lot of inside information available to the characters in this book, and no one used any of it. Which makes the author giving it to us pretty pointless.

The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! Speaking of filling…..wait, that’s for later. Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with!
By the time you’ve figured out who is who and how deep hate can run, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter!

Can’t say I didn’t warn you.
Tala was born part of the shifter family however she was born unable to shift and was bullied most of her life for it so as soon as she was old enough her father and her left to live among humans. Also, the man she knew was her mate decided since she couldn’t shift, he didn’t want her as a mate and chose someone else breaking her heart something unrepairable. Tala works as a wildlife inspector for the government at the airport catching young shifters to stop them from being sold. That is until Asher the very man who broke her heart invites her to a ceremony but only because he needs her help when she refuses, he messes with her job getting her suspended to force her to come to the ceremony. Asher finally sees her as his mate, but will she want him after all the heartache he caused her, the suspension from her job for manipulation reasons and can they find some type of happiness?

Asher and Tala are absolutely perfect for one another, and that is evident throughout Rejected Wolf, even if there are some folks in their pack stuck on modern body images! Tala is strong and smart, and her mate is totally into her! Forget everyone else, I say but her working through it all is part of the drama of it all.

She needs to ensure this is not the last time her insecurities will get the better of her, but there is a learning curve. This is a great introduction to the Evergreen Pack that it seems room to go off into a series about another wolf pack and a pack of dragon shifters. This story is good for the romance, the twists, the drama, and humor. The story has many OMG girl moments, referring to Tala. You ask out loud, why don't you get it? Which makes the story real. We understand that she has been through so much, but she is an alpha female, and much is expected, and she needs to see the world for what it is.

I read this series in one day. It is engaging, entertaining, and a good one-day read! I can hardly wait to see what else the series brings!

Rejected once, run away for 15 years...
Rejected twice, run away and fix a case...
Will there be rejection for a 3rd time???

BBW Tala, had a hard childhood in her mother’s pack since she was the only girl with curves so everyone made fun of her and one was a biggest bully of the pack, Sakari, but she did have a couple of friends but she also has a crush of Asher. Well until he received his spirit wolf and Sakari when to him first. This woman will be the Other Woman Drama for Tala and it’s worst as the story progresses that Asher reveals that he does in fact care for Sakari to the point where he will stop a challenge between Tala and Sakrai and guess who he protects? It wasn’t his mate Tala but Sakari. Now I felt how Tala has been put down by ‘family’ & associates (pack) how her mom almost staved her to make her loose weight (my grandmother tried that on me when I was young) hurtful barbs from family and ifnypu were ever bullied by others for your weight you will sympathize with Tala. I would like to read more with this pack and see what happens next with Tala and Asher and even Tala’a brother Tyee and see if he’s finally over his tantrum...

I don’t usually start with what I don’t like about a story but this times it is not so much about what I don’t like but what makes sense. Apparently in Rejected Wolf shape shifters have gone public and the government put them all on reservations. This makes no sense to me because the author indicated in the story that the shape shifters are Native Americans, a majority of whom are already on reservations. Why would you put them on a reservation when they are already stuck living on reservations?

There is also the situation about Tala and her brother Tyee, how could they not talk over the years? I have siblings that I did not grow up with but we have been in contact with each other off and on through out the years. So again, how did they not talk and communicate in some way? I guess you could blame the bitter mother but Tala is older and capable.

I did find a few edits but nothing that really takes away from the already shaky story line and anticlimactic ending.

Book 5 of this collection!
by LNovotasky

This is book 5 of the Evergreen Wolves series but you can read it and still understand the story and if you are curious about the other ones ( like I was) you can get the first 4 in a convenient collection at a really good price . This is the story of Tala and Asher. Asher is the alpha of his group of wolves and when he came of age by some trickery and misunderstandings make him not see his mate. Tala is a half human half wolf that has been bullied almost all her life for being different to the other kids thanks to his human genes. She always new that Asher was her mate so it really hurt her badly that the day he had his adulthood ceremony looked like he reject her and pick someone else as his mate. Now is her brother turn to have a ceremony and she was invited to comeback and be there for her brother. Will she go? Will there be a second chance for this couple? or The misconceptions and misunderstandings will be to strong? This is a fast pace second chance paranormal romance with 2 very stubborn people with no cheating and a happily ever after.

This is the first book I've read by this author. I thought that this was a well written book. I loved the characters Tala and Asher. The plot flowed from beginning to end and nothing was rushed at the end.

Tala is beautiful, smart and has her life planned out. Until she is called back to the pack she left behind. Asher is the pack Alfa and is extremrly stubborn, good looking and I felt always got what he wanted in the end. I thought they were such a perfect yin and yang for each other. I really enjoyed watching Tala stand up for herself and grow as a person. I don't want to give to much away. If you enjoy angsty shifters and hot bedroom scenes you will enjoy this book.

Tala left the Evergreen pack with her father because Asher wanted someone else and she didn’t have a wolf spirit. Asher was the alpha of the Evergreen pack now and needed Tala to come back to support her younger brother as he received his spirit wolf. In returning, Tala and Asher realized they were mates. All kinds of pack and personal problems were started and brought back from the past with Tala returning and the ceremony of spirit claiming. While trying to adjust to her new role Tala still wants to solve the mystery from the job Asher had her dismissed from. This interesting and exciting read was filled with fun characters and the desire to learn more about the different packs and their stories.

Tala left the pack years ago when Asher bypassed her for Sakari who threw herself at Asher. She left the next day with her father and was now working with the Montreal airport. She never got over the hurt and how she was treated because of her curves when she lived among the pack. Now they wanted her to return to help her young brother during the ceremony where he would get his wolf spirit. An exciting storyline that has all the feels from past humiliation, rejection, acceptance, fighting the mating bond, to submission. I loved it..

Hurt, Shame, Mystery, Forgiveness, Bonding

Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2021

This is a good read that's full of action, suspense, plot twists, and romance as the rejected female alpha must see the world for what it is. I felt badly for Asha for her being rejected and people being mean to her because of her body shape. The story had great chemistry amongst the characters. superb. There was a good mystery thrown in regarding who was smuggling young shifters. There was forgiveness and bonding ~ a book with all the feels. Truly fantastic for shifter lovers especially.

I received, read and reviewed this book voluntarily. All opinions are my own.

Tala wasn’t a shifter so she and her father left when Asher mated someone else. She worked as a wildlife forensic inspector for the government at one of the airports to catch young shifters that are being sold. When Tala refused to go to a ceremony Asher got her suspended so she had no idea excuse. Finally Asher accepted her as his mate still had quite a bit to work out. Great book! Will be looking for books by this author.

I don’t think the title in entirely accurate. Tala suffers from some serious self-esteem and self-worth issues when it comes to her former pack because they destroyed them for her, including some of her family. Asher doesn’t always help the situation after she goes back. There is a bit of ex drama. Overall a good story with some extra plot of trafficking shifters. There needs to be a bit more editing done.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for a review.
The first of Suzanne Roslyn's books I've read and I enjoyed it. I've had a soft spot for shifters since 2017 and have read some darn good authors. I've always loved wolves - they are my American Indian Spirit animal.
I'd put Ms Roslyn up there with the best I've read and look forward to more of her books.
Highly recommend.

I just couldn't finish. Trying to read this book was like trying to drink water while playing hopscotch. The sentence structure and typos kept tripping me up, and the pacing was completely off. If I met any of the characters in real life, I would not be inviting them over for tea and crumpets, that's for sure.
