I am so excited for this series!! We have the sexy wolf shifter Killian who becomes rogue, refusing to become Alpha of his pack due to disagreements on how it's run. We have the strong headed Cordelia, who will not bow to rules that keep women of her pack from ever becoming alphas and entering a marriage to someone she does not love. Both run to find their true destiny but with it, comes dire consequences. I can't wait for book 2 to release! I need more!

Normally with Paranormal books the Alpha is strong and his mate isnt or at least in the books ive read before. In this one Killian and Cordelia are both strong enough to be Alpha's in their own right. Which i kinda liked
Killian story before he meets Cordelia is not a happy one. Part of a sadistic, blood - thirsty pack with his father as the Alpha is not somewhere he wants to be and he leaves. Only to meet his mate - Cordelia. Oh boy these two hurt my heart. They are so perfect for each other but Killian has been so hurt in his past that its difficult for him to move on and except his fate. I can understand why even if it saddened me for how things were left for Cordelia. Its a great start to this series and that ending was killer!!! I enjoyed reading it a lot

I have been provided with a copy of Alpha Rising by the author for an impartial review. This book is a part of the Sultry Shifter Nights: A Shapeshifter Paranormal Romance & Urban Fantasy Anthology (Shifters Unleashed Book 1) box set. This is the first book in the Rise of the Alpha series. I’m torn on what to right for my review. There was some aspects of the book that I liked and then other parts I just wasn’t as thrilled about. I felt the same way about the characters some of their qualities I enjoyed and then at other times I was just confused by what I was seeing. Also this book ends in a cliffhanger and I just hate cliffhangers so be aware of that when you pick up this book.

Julie Morgan has written a 5-star book. This is Cordelia and Killian's story. Killian is tired of the way his father runs their clan. It is not right the way his father treats the clan members. Each one of the clan members fears Killian's father. They don't know if he will kill them or beat them. Killian was supposed to fight till the death, but he is fed up and just before he goes into the pit, he runs. He had bought himself a cabin that no one knew about but him, and that is where he goes. Cordelia has just been told that she is to marry James McBeal. Cordelia tells her father and James that it will never happen. She knows that her mate is out there and James is not him. Cordelia leaves her pack that night to go look for her mate. She hopes she gets back before her father dies. While Cordelia is out running, she sees a cabin in the distance. She also has a funny feeling. She gets a strange smell. She is not paying attention to where she is running and runs into a tree. When she hits it, she lets out a scream. Killian is going to get some more wood and on his way back in, he hears a scream in the woods. He drops the wood inside and goes to look for the woman who screamed. When he sees Cordelia, she is in her wolf form but then shifts back to her human form. He asks "Are you all right?" just as she passed out. He takes her to his cabin and puts her in his bed. Once he touched her, he gets a funny feeling. Killian just wants to be left alone and figure out who he is without being around his father. When Cordelia wakes up, Killian asks "Who are you?" She tells him she is Cordelia from the Golden Clan. He tells her that he is Killian Blackcrown of the Blackcrown clan. Cordelia and Killian talk and she tells him her story about James and she needs to go back and check on her father. Cordelia tricks Killian into going back to her clan with her and when they get there, everyone starts calling him Pack Master. He tells them that he is not Pack Master yet. This upsets Killian when he hears all this and now he wants to know what is going on with Cordelia. The more Killian is with Cordelia, the more his wolf said that she is theirs. Killian is not ready to become Alpha, he doesn't believe he would be a good Alpha. Since Killian is upset, she takes him to her secret place and they talk. She tells him about what James is trying to do and he tells her about how his father ran the pack. Cordelia tells him that he is nothing like his father, he has a good soul. The more time Killian spends with Cordelia the more he starts to care for her. Cordelia and Killian had been talking to her father and he wants to speak to Killian alone. Cordelia goes to help set up for dinner in the dining hall. When she gets there, things are not as far along as should be. She asks "Why are things so far behind?" She is told that the reason they are behind is because of James. He keeps coming in and trashing up the place. About that time, there is a loud noise at the door and all of a sudden, the door crashes to the floor and James walks in. He tells Cordelia what he is going to do to her and then become Alpha of the pack. Cordelia tells him that she would never mate with him and that is not how it is done anyway. Things do not go well for Cordelia. James comes after her and when she hurts him, he hits her and knocks her to the floor. He then gets on top of her and again tells her what is going to happen. He tries to kiss her and she bites him. This makes him mad and it takes everything in her to keep fighting him. She tells one of the girls working in the dining hall to go and get Killian, he should be at her father's house. Cordelia tries to scream but James covers her mouth. Killian is walking out of Cordelia's father's home when a girl runs up to him and tells him that Cordelia is in trouble and needs his help in the dining hall. James is so focused on Cordelia that he doesn't see Killian come in. Before he can do anything to Cordelia, Killian grabs him and throws him against the wall on the other side of the room. Before James can get up, Killian is on him again. Cordelia is the one who stops him from killing James. The guards take him away, while Cordelia, Killian, and Sarah, Cordelia's sister go to tell their father what just happened. After her father hears what happened, he has James brought in and tells him that he is to leave the pack and never return. If he returns, he will be shot on sight. or attacked and dismembered. In the face of the danger that Cordelia was in, Killian claimed her as his woman and stood up for her. Cordelia can see how upset Killian is and she decides to take him back to her secret spot so they can talk again. Killian tells her about his feelings about being Alpha. She tells him that he would be a good Alpha. He had a good heart and that proved a lot to her. When they go back to the pack, she sees her sister Sarah outside her father's house crying. Cordelia knows that her father has passed away. She is told it happened overnight and he was not in any pain. Cordelia needs to go to her sister, and Killian tells her to go and they will talk after the funeral. Killian knows that until her ends things with his father, he can't give Cordelia what she needs, so he decides to go and take care of things with his father. Killian writes Cordelia a note telling her what he is going to do and promises to come back.

This book will leave you with a cliffhanger but it is worth the read. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Shifter books aren't usually my type of book that I like to read, but with this one i really enjoyed it... Julie Morgan made this a book that I had to read and loved it... I enjoyed reading the points of view between killian and Cordelia.... and yes everyone there will be a book 2 and I'm so waiting to read what happens next!! Book 2 can't get here soon enough lol

Julie Morgan has nailed the paranormal romance genre! Let me start by saying that paranormal romance is what first sparked my love of romance books and it is usually so difficult to go back to the genre after having read so many different authors from the genre and eventually growing tired of paranormal. I was so nervous to read this book because I'm so hard to please in this genre, but let me tell you my fear was absolutely ridiculous because Julie absolutely slayed it and rekindled my long lost love!
Alpha Rising is an outstanding read from Chapter One, Julie sucked me right back into the paranormal world and she kept me flipping the pages as quickly as I could. Every once in a while you get a phenomenal book in your hands that plays like a movie in your mind and this book was just that for me!
Killian is fated to take over in the Alpha position of the Wolf Pack he is in, but he doesn't wish to take it on the way his father had ruled as Alpha before him. His father was absolutely ruthless in his actions and in the amount of blood he has shed. Killian does the only thing he can think of and doesn't take on his position of alpha and flees his pack to live as a rouge wolf.
Cordelia is a strong woman and will not bend to the rules that a woman cannot lead a pack or that she should marry someone she doesn't love. Cordelia knows deep down she has a true mate out there in the world and she is determined to eventually find it.
Killian and Cordelia meet by fate and know that there is so very much at stake if they are going to stay together. It is up to them to decide if the risks are worth the reward of being together. I cannot wait to get my hands onto book two to see where their journey is going to bring us. This book was amazingly written, had fantastic world building, and characters with so much depth. I loved this book!

She will be forced into a loveless marriage and magic and power goes to the next male heir or her chosen mate. No one in her pack is a good selection for mate. Her fated mate exists, so she leaves to find him.
When Cordelia and Killian meet, they recognize their other half. But the evil from Killian’s old pack is not done with him. He is willing to accept the Alpha position of Cordelia’s pack when he father dies. I loved this story, but be warned it does end on a cliffhanger. I wasn’t expecting that and just shouted, “oh, NO!! Killian is the oldest son of the alpha of the Blackcrown Pack. His father is a evil, ruthless leader who believes in killing off the weakest and taking what he deems his, including mated women. Killian is suppose to take over, but doesn’t want an part of being alpha. He leaves his pack and heads to a cabin hidden in the mountains to live as a lone Wolf. Then he catches Cordelias scent. With her father dying, and being the oldest, she must find a mate to take on the alpha role because women are not destined to be alphas. She won’t marry someone she doesn’t love just to get an alpha for her pack. She’s on the hunt for her true mate. As she runs through the woods she follows Killian’s scent and both know instantly they are mates. Only she has to convince Killian to step forward and take on the alpha role. A well written storyline with danger, suspense, abuse, uncertainty, and discovering a deep strength and bonding between the H and h. The characters are strong, intense and determined. I can’t wait for more.

The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! Speaking of filling…..wait, that’s for later. Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with!

A Paranormal Delight
Alpha Rising is an outstanding example of what a Paranormal Romance should be. This is definitely a gem.
Killian is slated to take over from his father as Alpha of the Wolf Pack. He refuses to take on the ruthless and barbarous ways his father dictates. Bloodshed is not the way to lead a pack. Killian flees to live the life as a rogue wolf and he abandons his duties as the next Alpha.
Cordelia is a fierce strong woman and will not bend to the rules that woman cannot lead a pack. She is not satisfied entering into a marriage with someone she does not love. She knows her true mate is out there in the world and she takes flight. As fate would have it, she finds Killian. There is a lot at stake if these two stay together. Killian knows his father will relentlessly pursue and force him to return to fulfil his duties. I am looking forward to see what happens in Book Two.

His father is cruel, brutal, and rules the pack and his family with an iron fist. Killian takes off to his place in the woods determined to stay there and away from everything and everyone forever. Until, he scents his mate and she scents him. As much as Killian tries to fight the attraction, Cordelia fights to become bonded mates. The book has action, twists, turns, and great steam. I really hate cliffhangers and especially when I dont know when the next book is coming out.

Killian and Cordelia were not a match made in heaven at the start but the more you get to know them you begin to realize that they are more alike than either care to admit! They both want to be loved and cherished and to know that being together is what they both need! Through the evil that comes will they be strong enough to overcome what it has in store for them? Miss Morgan knows how to position her reader right where she wants them to be. She gives good book massages with an incredible story to back it up. With characters that literally fly off the pages and right into the readers lap with an experience they will never forget and will come to crave! This book is definitely going on my to reread shelf. I cannot wait to see what else Miss Julie has in store for us!

Killian is defining by all odds as he does not want to do what has been done in his pack from the beginning of time. He has a different heart and mindset and even though he doesn't want to voice it he will. When he makes the decision to leave the pack it's not only huge but catastrophic. But he knows this is what is right for him. When he meets Cordelia things fly for sure. Cordelia is a beautiful soul and knows she does not want to be stuck with someone she doesn't love. She wants to be needed and wanted passionately. When she meets Killian things will change. But when you are trying to be a better person your past is about to tear it apart. Can he fight for the freedom he wants? Can she fall in love with someone who makes her heart double? These two will go through the trials but who will come out on top of the past or future?

This was a cancer pity party not to dis on anyone who has or is affected by cancer but it’s a little unrealistic for 3 people to have this in a fairly small community. MMC mom died of cancer, FMC her mom and Dad died of cancer, it was almost a one up..add in the FMC almost being raped, thought this was supposedly a powerful female, but In The face of a lesser wolf who happens to be male she folds and is not very strong to fight back. She ponders how strong she is and her sad story is she was born female but she was able to fight a male challenger that she should be the Alpha. Story had grammatical issues, “bad guy” was knocked unconscious and confirmed unconscious but yet referred as lifeless….so dead? Story really needs some polishing up. But it appears that this author has already put out rest of stories.

What a Brilliant Paranormal Shifter Romance.
I am enthralled and so invested in these characters.
Killian and Cordelia have a destiny. It's undeniable. The dangers await for them are sever. Killian ran from his blood thirsty Alpha Father's control. He was ready to be a loner until she crashed into his llife.
Cordelia is determined to save her pack from chaos and needs to find her mate before it's to late and her father dies and chaosbreaks out.
When they find each other its undeniable they were ment to become mated.
Before they can make it official of Killian taking over as pack master he has to break ties that bind him to his old life.
Trouble erupts and they're happiness is in trouble and her pack in danger.
This story is so addictive and I just can't get enough!

Wow WOW WOW!!!!! When I say you are going to want to read not just this one book but the Whole alpha rising series this series is AMAZING!!! This book hooks you in from the very beginning and then your sitting here going wait what the heck just happened?!?! I absolutely love love this book and I cant lie I thought it was beyond awesome that the primary character is named killian and its spelled the same way as I spell my sons name. Cordelia is firece and I sure as heck wouldn't mess with her because even though she's not an "alpha " she is! This book and series is and will keep you on your toes and honestly you will be begging for more with every word and change of the page! You can not go wrong at all with this series! Trust me read it!!!!!!

This was my first experience with a shapeshifter book and wow, what an intro to my new favorite trope!
Killian and Cordelia shredded my heart...well technically, the author did by writing two strong, sexy, and amazing characters. Killian just wants to escape the horrors of his past and find his own way but Cordelia finds him instead. Instantly recognizing their mate in each other, they fall hard...both in love and into bedrock. Warring alphas and running from the past could put his new future at risk unless he can make it right. Love is never easy, right?
Steam, love, death...this book has it all and I'm so ready for more. Great job, Julie Morgan.

I really enjoyed reading this book & if you like shifter romances then you will enjoy it as well. The plot is well-paced & quite entertaining to read with a very subtle darkish undertone. The characters have interesting personalities that continue to develop throughout the storyline.
There is: family/pack issues, a strong-willed female wolf shifter (Cordelia) of the Golden Manes pack, a alpha male wolf shifter turned rogue (Killian), a despicable Pack Master/alpha of the Blackcrown pack & Killian’s father (Richard), adventure, action, twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, drama, mates, jealousy, danger, threats, enemies, vengeful feelings, violence, conflict, heartache, manipulations & a jaw-dropping cliffhanger.

Alpha Rising is a story that grabbed my attention from the beginning. Killian is living a life he doesn't. The only way to get away is leave.
Cordelia cannot be her father's heir because she is a woman instead of a man. The man she chooses will become the new Alpha, but no one in their current pack will do. Desperate to find her true mate, Cordelia runs off hoping to find him. That is where Killian and Cordelia meet.
Both have pasts they are not proud of and want different lives for themselves. They are amazing together, but the rest of life gets in the way.
Ending is for now. Will need to read book 2 to find out what happens next.

Killian left his pack to avoid being Alpha then his mate arrives needing him for hers.
Killian grow up in a wolf pack dominated by his cruel and blood thirsty father the Alpha where he and his brother were played off against each other. Finally he had had enough and leave going to live in an isolated cabin but then his mate finds him. Cordelia knows she will not be allowed to take over Alpha when her ill father dies but refuses to mate with any male other than her true mate. Whoever she mates will be expected to become the next Alpha so she has a bullying pack mate trying to force her to mate him. Cordelia goes for a run then gets a whiff of a scent that is her mates and heads in that direction.

Admittedly, this was my first Julie Morgan story and I really enjoyed it and will be diving in for more words by her. I am a big PNR fan and I loved the shifter component of this story and totally related to the feelings on inadequacy we all all feel. Killian is a strong Alpha but has reservations about being an Alpha. Cordelia is inclined to be a Alpha but pack rules dictate that the Alpha must be male. Fate intervenes and brings this fated pair together. The connection between them is is great and sparks fly quickly. Note that this book 1 and the story will continue in book 2, so there is a soft cliffie ad the end. I am excited to read more in this series.

Killian is not happy with the way his father runs their pack and decides he doesn’t want to be a part of it anymore. He leaves and goes into hiding at his cabin. Cordelia is the member of a different pack. She needs to find her mate as her dad is dying and they need a new Alpha to take over. She isn’t able to do it because she is female. One night she goes in search of her mate and runs into Killian. She is able to convince him to go back home with her where he gets to know her pack. Killian doesn’t want to be Alpha but things change when he is with Cordelia and her pack is challenged.

Wow this book was amazingly written. Once I started I couldn’t put it down till I was finished. Killian doesn't want to be the alpha of his pack. He runs off to find his mate. Cordelia wants to be the alpha of her pack but cannot because she is a female. so she sets off to find her mate. Killian knows at first sight he found his mate but tries to hide it. Will it be to late when they realize what is happening. This is a great story and cannot to see what happens next. I love that Cordelia also includes her sister in her plans.

If you love smartass, sassy and relatable characters then this is the book for you. Julie does an amazing job painting the picture so to speak of the characters and the entire scene. I have been looking for a more realistic/up to date paranormal romance and I finally found one. I can't wait to see what wisecracks Killian, Cordy and Sarah come up with next.

don't know why it took me a while to get into this book. I struggled through half of it. Although by the last few chapters, I was hooked and now I want to know what else happens in their world. It does end in a cliffhanger but I hope in the next book they can find their happy ever after! The steamy scenes were good though!

Killian doesn't to become alpha of his pack in fear of becoming a savage like his father and Cordelia wants more to life than whats expected of her. These two were like oil and water but they fit each other and their love was intense. I liked how they both bonded over the fact they both were prisoners in a way to their pack culture. I really liked how they both decided to take charge of their own destiny and not allowing themselves to be held down by the expectations of their cultures.

Misses the mark by quite a bit
This story misses the mark by quite a bit.
I felt no connection between the characters no indications in pack life other than a sisterly bond.
We have instant love which is fine, but then he leaves her on the day she needed him to confront his father- gets captured - cliffhanger story over

Killian left his pack because he didn’t want to be alpha and his father was a brute. Cordelia left her pack to find her mate and packs next alpha. This interesting and exciting story had two strong shifters that were fated mates wanting different things for their future but through destiny, danger, deception and love their lives and packs future were in jeopardy. Fun read with a cliffhanger.
