Power. That’s what I think of when I spot him across the ER. Power and danger.
One of the wealthiest Russian oligarchs, Alex Volkov is as ruthless as he is magnetic. He always gets what he wants, and what he wants is me, in his bed.
He’s the kind of trouble every woman should run from. The bullet his bodyguard took for him proves that.
I should stay far away, but for one night, I give in to temptation. Before I know it, he’s pulling me deeper into his world of excess and violence, invading not only my life but my heart.
How much trust can I place in a man so dangerous? How much do I dare risk for his love?
Anna Zaires fell in love with books at the age of five, when her grandmother taught her to read. She wrote her first story shortly thereafter. Since then, she has always lived partially in a fantasy world where the only limits were those of her imagination. Currently residing in Florida, Anna is happily married to Dima Zales (a science fiction and fantasy author) and closely collaborates with him on all their works.
After graduating from the University of Chicago with a degree in Economics, Anna spent eight years on Wall Street analyzing stocks and writing research reports. In 2013, she became a full-time author, pursuing her lifelong dream of writing romance novels.
Dima Zales is the love of her life and a huge inspiration in all aspects of her writing. Every book Anna writes is a product of their unique collaborative process.
In addition to reading and writing, Anna enjoys drinking tea (coconut oolong, anyone?), watching addictive TV shows, and discussing book ideas during long walks with her amazing husband.
She loves hearing from her readers, so please don't hesitate to contact her through her website or connect with her on Facebook, where she hangs out way too often. Also, please visit her husband and collaborator, Dima Zales, at www.dimazales.com and check out their fantasy & science fiction books.
I re-read this last night and loved it the second time around. Perhaps my expectations were previously a little too high and have since become more tempered. Either way...up we go. And also exciting because this broke a weird reading funk (which was different from a traditional reading slump in the sense that I had no desire to read PERIOD...which never ever ever happens to me). So a win all around.
Original review/rating:
3.75 - 4 Smut Stars
Anna Zaires is one of my all time ride or die authors and I will pretty much read anything she puts out. So I was super excited to get the email saying this ARC was ready to rumble.
I even have plans to eventually dapple in her husband's non-romance urban fantasy series just cause her name is on them.
But I digress.
I enjoyed this.
Alex is delicious and alpha and Russian and morally gray and possessive and he and his Katerina had fantastic chemistry.
Is he a Julian or a Lucas? No. But that's okay. This was a low key taste of similar goodness and I devoured it in one sitting.
Looking forward to book two.

What is it about the russian men in books that makes them so fucking attractive? No, really? Because I'll literally read any dark romance where the mmc is russian, without question. I read this book in one sitting and considering this is a duet, I can't wait to start the next book.
I went in with lower expectations because my current reads have not been upto mark. Also because I've read two of Anna zaires’ books and i didn't really take a great liking towards them, so imagine my surprise when this turned out to be such a binge–able read. I couldn't put it down until I realised I reached the last chapter.
While the plot was quite intriguing, the majority of the book was spent on the romance aspect. My ratings would've been higher if the plot was given more focus. Nonetheless this book was still amazing and I can't wait to read the next one!
Here's what to expect:— ➳ Dark romance ➳ Stalking ➳ Russian mafia (bratva) ➳ Nurse × Shady russian billionaire ➳ Kidnapping (in the end) ➳ Cliffhanger/Duet.
Anna Zaires is one of my go to authors. Why? Because she writes damn good books especially Russian mafia stories.
This was an excellent read. Very well written and fast paced. I loved, loved, loved Alex Volkov. He is the epitome of a Russian mafia don. He has a rough side but can be gentle when needed.
My reason for only giving 4 stars is because of the heroine Kate. She got on my very last nerve. She second guesses everything and doesn’t know when to keep her mouth shut. She is probably one of the most irritating heroines I have read in a long time.
Can’t wait to read the conclusion in November because this is a duet.
I miss AZ’s intense alpha’s because that is what drew me to her books years ago. In this one I didn’t feel their connection and actually found the main characters too bland. Honestly very disappointed in this book I was expecting so much more then what I read. I don’t think I will read the next one.
Manipulation much? Edgy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ With some authors it’s hard to get enough of their stories. Especially when they are blessed with mad writing skills and know how to dial in that perfectly crafted Bad Boy Personna. It makes the book very difficult to put down and it also makes them so very swoon worthy.
Katherine did not have a chance with this guy. The subtle maneuvers and the slight ways he started making her life easier and taking control... it’s flattering on one hand but on the other hand you don’t really realize what’s happening until it’s too late.
He’s mega rich mega, attractive, but when you try to pull back he outmaneuvers you. The manipulation is evident, but is it easier to just give in? I mean, he is amazing and treats you well and the steam and heat enough alone to have you hooked. That is what our heroine has to put up with in this hot book.
Zaires and Pauls have created an incredibly addicting story that reeks of a long foreplay session. They are not only winding up the characters, they are dragging you along for the wild ride as well! The subtle maneuvers that lay beneath the edge is handled with careful craftsmanship. You can feel the anxiety levels rise!
A brilliantly written story that makes it so hard to wait until November for Part 2!
Separately, Anna Zaires and Charmaine Pauls are exceptional writers. Combined, they are almost too much to take! If one is an inferno, then two is like looking into the sun.
I volunteered to beta read this after a long work day. I should have known better than to start it in the evening, but I couldn’t resist. I ended up reading THROUGH THE NIGHT. Again!
A Russian oil baron with a shady past meets an angel in a New York City emergency room. She’s gorgeous, she’s sexy, and she moves with a confidence and efficiency that impresses him. Having just help rescue the bodyguard who took a bullet for him, she’s captured his full attention.
Kate Morrell has never met a man like Alex Volkov. From the moment the Emergency Room nurse first lays eyes on him she has felt consumed by his gaze. Alex prepositions Kate and begins a seductive pursuit that will have you wishing for your very own hot Russian oligarch!
I first noticed the Anna-Charmaine Effect during their collaboration on Darker Than Love. Now it’s confirmed with White Nights. The two of them are more potent together. It’s as if their combined writing genius is greater than the mere sum of their entwined words.
No matter if Alex and Kate are actually together or not on the page, the sustained tension of consuming desire permeates the entire book. The reader is kept in suspended anticipation and lust. Can a prolonged orgasm be experienced in words alone?
This is my favourite kind of hot alpha romance. I would sell the hair off my head to be able to beta read the next one! No wait, what’s that in my mailbox? Oh, thank my lucky stars!
Another amazing collaboration between two of my favorite authors!
This story absolutely sizzles with intense heat and chemistry between Kate and Alex. Watching them fall in love was great. The angst was relatively low, the threat of danger lurking behind the pages making me anticipate when it was all going to unravel.
Alex had all the alpha goodness I could ask for and then some. He was intense, jealous, possessive and above all, protective. I love the way both of these ladies create their heroes but together, he was alpha overload in the best possible way!
This book predominantly outlines the progression of their relationship and all the smexy times between them. Both of these authors know how to build up the anticipation and layer a story with characters, plot, and heat to the point of keeping me glued to the pages until the very end. Which of course ended up in a cliffhanger. Can’t wait for the next book!
Kate Morrell is a nurse, with trust issues after her last relationship and with an unhealthy tendency to razionalised everything. The moment her eyes meet the ones of Alex Volkov at the ER where she works, she knows he is dangerous, but the attraction is too strong to be denied. And Alex is the kind of man who always get what he wants. Kate stand no chance against him or this burning chemestry. But dangerous men always have enemies and Kate just became a target....
So.... Where is my Alex???! WHERE!!! This man is 🔥🔥🔥🔥 He kinda reminds me of Peter in his obsession for Kate and in his need to take care of her 😍😍 I just love him!!! Instead I don't really like Kate, because she seems to weak in certain situations. But I loved the way she care for her mother and her chats with her best friend!
Anna zaires and Charmaine Pauls together are a force to be recnoked with 😍😍 Once I started reading White Nights i couldn't put it down!! This first part of the story is intense and steamy but not really dark. It kinda looks like a long good introduction to the main story: Midnight Days. Secrets, allusions, imminent danger, passion.... if this are the premises....😏😏 Oh boys, i have great expectations!!
Good story. Well written. Not particularly original, handsome rich shady business man propositions ordinary girl. No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine. Hero has never dated before. Other woman drama, a business partner's daughter that he is expected to marry and he had slept with wants him. He does take the woman for a birthday meal, she is described as clinging to his side when the heroine sees her. I didn't feel the explanation of that was enough. It's during a time of separation for the Hero and heroine. She has ended things so he is free but it didn't sit well. He does say nothing happened since he's been with the heroine. The heroine goes on a date with other man, he kisses her but no spark.
Cliffhanger ending.
ARC.

I always enjoy these two authors so was excited to start reading this collaboration. This definitely hit the spot for me it's a duet so the story does conclude in the next book but thankfully this didn’t torture me too much and the ending here left me wanting more without leaving me hanging.
Katherine Morrell is an ER nurse and whilst working a shift she finds herself stabilising a man with a gunshot wound this male is a bodyguard to Alexander Volkov a Russian oil magnate and businessman of incredible wealth but also at the same time very shady business practices with dangerous individuals. Instantly drawn to one another it was only meant to be about the physical Alex doesn’t usually date and despite Kates reservations and initial refusal at Alex’s shocking proposition Kate soon finds herself succumbing to his obvious charm and charisma. she didn’t stand a chance really.
Realising she’s in over her head Kate is in danger of having her heart broken Kate for her own preservation attempts to pull back but Alex is absolutely relentless showering her with gifts personal protection a driver and even delivered hot lunches to her work. He pulls out all the stops. He doesn’t take notice of personal boundaries or even privacy invading every aspect of Kate’s life going full-blown stalker on her until Kate can’t help but surrender to his persistent advances.
But being with Alex comes with danger the two are from totally different worlds and his attentions has made Kate a target for his enemies a weakness to exploit. Alex is prepared to do whatever it takes to keep Kate safe even if that means taking the decision out of her hands completely and acting in her best interests.
This was an easy read that instantly drew me in and this first book is all about building the connection and Alex actually convincing Kate that they should be together. There’s an air of danger hanging over events in as such that you realise that Kate’s is in a very vulnerable position one that she seems completely oblivious to.
I did like both Kate and Alex and they definitely had plenty of chemistry together heating up the pages. I’m also excited to see where this may lead next and just what the future may hold for Kate and Alex’s relationship. Definitely recommend it and I’m looking forward to the conclusion. I voluntary reviewed a copy of white nights (white nights #1).
Ever since Peter and Sara’s book, Anna Zaires has been writing quite limp, hesitant, washed out heroines.
Nurses, doctors, babysitters… All easily spooked and affronted by the hero’s proclivities and line of work. None with vigour, will or sass. Real plain Janes. Pretty faces, no personality.
I just want a Nora. She was scared but she always had spunk! She always tested the boundaries. She fought back. She’d get mean. She’d elicit a a larger range of characteristics/behaviour and emotions from the hero, from the very worst detestable aspects to the very best.
This heroine would constantly give in to his whims. He’s hurt her by being at a dinner with another woman, but now she’s letting him kiss her… Where’s her spark? Her fire…call me a hater, but she was pissing me off guys. Absolute wet wipe.
With that said. I didn’t particularly like the hero either. Less crass, more accommodating, less intense/magnetic, less aware than the the OG hero’s written… The fact that he was asking her where she was and didn’t already know. I’m sorry, but alpha points deducted. The fact that he could go without contacting her or touching base for days - even more points deducted.
I read Anna Zaires for a certain experience, a certain type of couple and je nai se quois only her reads can provide. In her last few releases, her Russian heros have started to blend together for me. Not vibing with it.
⤅ An Anna Zaires hero who BARELY abducts the heroine and NEVER dubcons her?? Not what I signed up for.
In Darker than Love and the Capture Me trilogy, Zaires wrote some of my all-time favourite dark romances. I've always loved how unapologetically amoral her heroes are. I was in the mood for some more of that, so I finally picked up White Nights. It was... not what I was expecting.
25-year-old Kate (I've forgotten her name already, had to look that up) is working her shift as a nurse in New York when they get in a gunshot patient. He'll recover; he was taking a bullet for his boss, 36-year-old Alex Volkov, a Russian oligarch and oil baron. As soon as Alex and Kate set eyes on each other, lust sizzles. But she's just come off a painful breakup, and she's not sure another man is what she needs right now.
Days later, she's changed her mind... and Alex is more than willing to take her up on it. Kate is up for a one-night-stand, but what happens when he wants more?
I kid you not, 99.9% of this book was nothing more than Kate swinging, weathervane-like, between wanting to sleep with Alex and wanting to avoid him. I don't object at all to a heroine who plays hard to get, but she just came off as weak and indecisive. I would much rather she be firmly against him - and that would also have given Alex a chance to show off some of those Anna Zaires dark-hero moves. He could have drugged her! Abducted her! Chained her to his bed! Something!
(I love that to any normal person outside my circle of fellow Goodreads dark romance lovers, I sound totally unhinged right now).
Instead, Alex spends the entire book (until literally the last page) looking frankly quite pathetic, and not at all like a 36-year-old man who grew up orphaned in Russia and runs billion-dollar enterprises. We have tepid love scenes, tepid OW drama, and tepid back-and-forth of this nature, trapped as we are inside Kate's head.
I also have no time at all for Kate's mum's character. She had Kate after being knocked up at a frat party and has no idea who the father is; although she's at minimum in her late thirties, she still acts like a giggly teenager, doing nothing but make bad boyfriend decisions and set an awful example for her daughter. Kate insists she's been an amazing mum (methinks the lady doth protest too much), but her mother very clearly has always been a 'friend' first and 'mum' second, with the negative impact of this on Kate being glossed over.
Let's just say I have zero interest in reading the sequel. Zaires, come back and write a proper dark romance with Rosa and that financial whizz guy from the Twist Me world!
So many delicious, goodness in this book! It's a bit on the darker side, but more mildly dark and that's all due to the hero.
Alex is that intense kind of hero that seems to be on the verge of violence. He seems to hold that darkness behind a gentlemanly veneer. You can tell immediately that he doesn't play by the rules.
Kate is more the type of heroine who plays by the rules and rarely lets go. She sometimes behaves like she avoids life if she thinks she'll get hurt. Her attraction to Alex is so strong that he tempts her out of that shell. She still holds back, but he doesn't really give her a choice.
My favorite thing is how Alex pursues Kate. He's borderline too much but in such a good way. He's just used to getting his way and doesn't see why he should hold back. And yet you can tell he does hold back for her. He really does try not to scare her off. It keeps you on your toes because you know things are about to go from 0 to 60.
This first book ended on a slight cliffhanger, but that 0 to 60 is about to be unleashed!
Let me tell you something I love. I love when a story is perfectly paced and if it’s a duet, the end of the first book is more of a pause / fork in the journey than a #fuckery moment. I love when you know round about what is going to happen or what the pause will be but you don’t really, not details. It doesn’t make the story predictable, more like exhilarating. I couldn’t read these pages fast enough. I did my share of pausing while I read but that was more about taking a moment to absorb the story. To really feel what was happening between the leads.
These two ladies have penned a very well thought out storyline that continues to build from page one. Not only is the storyline edgy and full of spark and mystery but so are Kate and Alex. These two are hidden gems within themselves and when they come together it’s an explosion of fireworks that not only zinged my body but also my mind. I was excited to read their progression in White Nights but I’m even more enthusiastic to read more.
I’m not entirely sure where the next chapter of this journey is going to take us, but I do know that without a doubt, it will be captivating, passionate, sexy and full of surprises! I haven’t read a whole lot of Anna’s work, but I’ve read almost every book Charmaine has written and I know she will deliver! Midnight Days cannot get here fast enough!
I’m a huge fan of Charmaine Pauls. She writes such amazing male characters and you’re always guaranteed to get an intelligent strong female. The sparks literally fly off the pages. Plus I’ve been known to enjoy several of Anna Zaires books as well. She also writes a fabulous male character. So the chances of me loving this book were high. Very high.
Alex Volkov is a rich, sexy Russian oligarch. Kate Morrell is a nurse with a huge heart. Together they have an attraction that’s impossible to fight.
I really enjoyed this book and I’m eagerly awaiting the next one. My only slight problem was I just felt Kate was too reticent at times. I understand a certain amount of scepticism but it was a little too much for too long for me. But this is a minor point and from the reviews I’ve read it seems like it only bothered me so I’ll put it down to me not the book.
I voluntarily read a review copy kindly provided by the authors.
Charmaine is my go to author and when she teams up with dark & dangerous writer Zaires, I know I'm in for the ride of my life. The dynamic duo create a sexy thriller, guaranteed to keep your pulse thrumming and panties moist.
The quintessential sexy Gazillionaire, Russian oligarch - Alex Volkov just happens to watch a scrubs-clad nurse when his bodyguard is shot, and his eyes darken with excitement. Dormant emotions come to life and he's not anything if not persistent.
"Holy shit. So this is what it feels like to be attracted to someone. It’s not rational, not logical. There’s no meeting of minds and hearts involved. No, the urge is basic and primitive. My body has sensed his on some animal level, and it wants to mate."
He single-mindedly focuses on getting Katherine Morrell in her bed but she manages to climb in his heart and sets camp.
The two moralistic worlds clash, black and white merge to become grey and that's a dangerous area cause Katherine is now in crosshairs of his enemies, who will do anything to get to Alex. The book ends on a cliffie and though I was left with a clamoring heart, I know more goodies are on the way. 4.5 stars for Katyusha Follow me on: Email🌻 Bookbub 🌻 Twitter🌻 Instagram🌻 Blog🌻 Facebook🌻 Amazon 🌻
Phew, ok I'm at the edge of my seat, this is set over two books and the first definitely has me hooked. I need answers, Anna Zaire's always keeps me guessing. I know Alex is very wealthy and has a very dodgy past, my questions are why is someone trying to kill him, does it have something to do with his parents death when he was 15. Oh well I won't know until I go into book two to find out the fate of both Alex and Kate so of I go. Midnight Days here I come
There were a lot of things that I liked about the story. It kept my interest. I was never bored. The story flowed well. I read it in one sitting.
Alex and Kate are faithful to each other. No cheating and no sex with OP after meeting.
The story includes plenty of hot sexy times which I always want. Alex acts protective of Kate. The story ended on a cliffhanger but that didn't bother me as I knew prior to reading it that the book was part of a series.
There were a few things about the story that I didn't like. Alex was a manhoe prior to meeting Kate. In fact he had sex with OW a few weeks before meeting Kate and still was around that woman even after sleeping with Kate. Honestly, I am so over reading about manhoe heroes. Totally sick of it. At least Kate was not a virgin. She had a few boyfriends prior to meeting Alex.
I will admit to being spoiled by both of these authors. Besides hot sexy times, one of the main reasons that I read their books is to get my fix for jealous and possessive heroes. Jealous heroes are my kryptonite, and their books tend to have delicious jealousy scenes not to mention hot sexy times.
In this story there were a few jealousy scenes but not nearly enough for me nor as intense as I would like. The one I recall happened when Kate went on a date with OM (who she turned out to have zero sexual interest in). While Alex stopped the date, his reaction seemed tame even though he saw the OM kissed her. Julian from Twist Me series (Anna Zaires) or Lucas from Capture Me series (Anna Zaires) or Ian from Beauty in the Stolen series ( Charmaine Pauls) would have totally lost it to see their heroes lip locking with OM.
For comparison, Julian put a teenage boy in the hospital for briefly kissing Nora and would have killed him if Nora didn't stop him. Lucas was driven crazy by the idea that Yulia had a few lovers prior to meeting him and intended to kill a man he thought had been Yulia's lover that he believed she still loved until he found out that OM was related to her.
Here while Alex threatened the OM who kissed Kate, I wasn't feeling it. In felt lukewarm at best, telling and no showing. Rather I felt like the heroine was more jealous than the hero. Now maybe part of reason why I felt like that is the story is never from the hero's point of view.
That was the other thing that I didn't like about the story. Most of the authors' other books are from both the heroes and the heroines' point of view, at least the ones I read. I prefer that because it helps me become emotionally involved in the story. Here, while there are several points of view in the story, unfortunately the hero’s is not one of them. Rather the story has the heroine and the villain's point of view.
I look forward to reading the next book in the series and am hoping that it will include Alex's point of view as well as intense jealousy scenes.

Who doesn’t want to read a hot billionaire that wants a girl sooo badly that he tries everything for her🥺 ME…. i am sucker for that type of romance😜 But also it has to be a safe one, not a fcked up one😆
‼️‼️‼️NO VIRGINS
both did use protection and both says they are clean
‼️‼️‼️The heroine is twenty five and the hero is thirty six.
‼️‼️‼️THE HERO WANTS THE HEROINE SOOOOO BADLY… I love the way his words to the heroine😏
“I need to touch you, to feel you. God, you’re driving me crazy. I need to be inside you so fcking bad, but I won’t take you, not until we’re alone.”
“Even if you were a threat, I’d still want more.”
“Because… There’s a bouquet in each and every room of the hospital, and the guy who delivered them says they’re from your boyfriend.”
“Promiscuous or conservative, I don’t care either way. You could’ve been a nun or a prostitute, I would’ve wanted you all the same. You can be whatever you like, but you’ll still be mine.”
“You in my bed is enough. I’ve fantasized about that since the moment I set my eyes on you.” 🥺🥺🥺
🥺🥺🥺🥺
‼️‼️‼️THE HERO IS OTT POSSESSIVE PROTECTIVE ALPHA MALE.
‼️‼️‼️MANY JEALOUS SCENES FROM THE HERO AND LITTLE FROM THE HEROINE.
“And while you’re in my bed, you won’t let another man into your body. You won’t even smile at another man. I don’t like to share. Think you can handle that?”
“Don’t ever lay your hands on her.”
“He touched whats mine. Next time, I won’t be so lenient.”
‼️‼️‼️DRAMA WITH OW AND OM BUT NOT TOO ANNOYING… But… I hate that the hero is a manwhore who meet up again with the other woman after he have sex with the heroine, the heroine did tell him to give her time but he didn’t contact her for a week and then when she accidentally goes to the restaurant she saw the hero with that other woman. Sitting next to each other with their business partners surrounding them. The hero did left that meeting and goes after the heroine and admit that the other woman mean nothing to him but they did have sex before meeting the heroine. SO THATS WHY WHEN THE HEROINE PUSH THE HERO AWAY COUPLE OF TIMES I DID SUPPORT HER BECAUSE IF I WAS HER, I DID SOMETHING LIKE THAT TOO. Like come on, he should be honest to her about something like that when they were talking about the heroine’s past relationship…
‼️‼️‼️THE HERO SAYS TO THE HEROINE THAT THIS IS HIS FIRST COMMITMENT RELATIONSHIP HE EVER HAVE WITH SOMEONE. “You have to help me out here. I’m new to this. I’ve never done dating. Except for the flowers and hearts, Google isn’t much help.” 😆😆😆😆 i laugh so hard when i read this
“You, are my officials girlfriend. A first and only for me, may I add.”
‼️‼️‼️NO CHEATING
‼️‼️‼️IT HAS SEPARATION.
The heroine went on a date with other man but they have dinner, the guy kiss the heroine but the heroine didn’t kissed him back and thats when the hero came and punch that other man😂🤣 The hero did go out at that business meeting with the other woman but he never sleeps with her ever again after the heroine… So both are loyal.
‼️‼️‼️IT HAS PUSHING AWAY FROM THE HEROINE BUT NEVER TOO MUCH… IT ACTUALLY MAKE SENSE THOUGH🤣🤣🤣 THE HERO NEVER PUSH THE HEROINE AWAY… HE REALLY CHASE HER AND NEVER GAVE UP ON HER 🥺🥺
‼️‼️‼️THIS BOOK ENDS WITH A CLIFFHANGER ONE SO HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE SECOND BOOK THATS GOING TO BE IN NOVEMBER. The cliffhanger is not that bad!!! That was a huge relief for me😅
Hopefully the second book will be much better! 🙏🏼
🌐🌐🌐➡️↘️⬇️➡️This is my own personal thoughts and opinion about the book so if thats not sit right with you or you feel I’m not being fair blablabla, please know that everybody in this world have their own different things that they like and don’t like. It may not be the same thing with you but thats okay because i am my own person and you cannot control me or tell me what to do. For example; i put ketchup (tomato sauce) on my fried chicken. You think that’s disgusting? For me its not and i’ve been eating it like that for many many years. You tell me to put another sauce and see if i like that better? I already did many many times in years but i still like the way i like it. It’s called differences between me and you and billions people in this world😊 be open minded😙 I respect people’s opinions about my opinions but in the end of the day if i say I don’t like it or i do like it, its up to me and its on me. And in the end of the day i always liked and show my respect to books and people’s opinions on books whenever that book is good or not good in my opinion 😊 Respect people’s opinions guys😙😙 I don’t want to write this down because its not really my thing to do it. To like address something like this when obviously i know the people who’s been reading my reviews many times and all the time, they are smart enough to understand and respect other people’s opinions no matter what their opinions on book or their point of view 😙😙 am i right? 💕 also there are people even though i already write “this book is different because i have my own taste of book” those people still comment my taste is this and that when HELLO… everybody have their own thoughts on books and what they want to read… why i read it then? I read it and give it a review because i have to read a book to give it a review… why not read the description book to understand before I’m going to read it? Hello just in case you haven’t notice, description books can be tricky because they write this amazing things about a book but turns out the story is so toxic. Maybe for me its toxic but not for you? Yeah.. no... Hubby and I were not feeling this one.. The heroine was just on the other side of too annoying.. not really worth the emotional angst.. and for me, Alexander Volkov was not really blowing my skirt up🤣..
So stopped reading at the end of chap 10, 35% in the book..
Definitely will not be reading the final book, book 2..
White Nights has been on my radar ever since Charmaine Pauls sent the newsletter telling me she was writing it with Anna Zaires. And since both are authors i love,i knew this would be a story i wanted to read, badly. So when Charmaine asked me if i was interested in the ARC,i immediately replied with a very loud YES,PLEASE!! What i got,was even better than i thought it would be,but then again….Charmaine writing with Anna….what else should i have expected?
Katherine is a nurse on the ER of Coney Island Hospital, and it’s there where she meets Alex for the first time after helping his bodyguard who’d been shot. He makes her an offer she declines, but it doesn’t end there….. Alex is intrigued by Katherine, and pursues her until she agrees to one dinner after work. What follows, tastes like more, but Kate isn’t into casual sex,and she holds back. Because Alex isn’t into dating, plus an aura of danger surrounds him. If only he would give up….. If only he would accept they’re too different. But he doesn’t,and he draws her into his world relentlessly. Making her a target for the enemies that want him gone….. And that’s where White Nights ends. With a cliffhanger after yet another twist in this delicious dark gem!
I loved Katherine! She’s got standards, and she’s standing by them. She’s not giving in just like that, she needs convincing, and that’s good. As long as he keeps his distance, allowing her to think…. I wasn’t sure about Alex at first,if i’m honest. I mean,he can’t stand being denied, obviously. And when Kate tells him no,it only makes him want to have her more. The way he goes about this, feels high-handed and sort of blackmailing at first, but he díd grow on me… Because he slowly shows more of himself, showing a man worthy of being with Kate. That may sound ridiculous with him being the successful millionaire and her a nurse, but. She shows him what she needs, what she values in a man,and once he understands,he does his best to give her that. Now all i need is Midnight Days, badly! Because the threat is still there, and i need to know if they’re going to make it,together,alive…..
This is the first book in the White Nights duet and features Alex and Kate. Alex Volkov is a Russian oligarch that lives in the grey, is extremely wealthy and has dangerous enemies. One evening he finds himself in the ER when his bodyguard takes a bullet for him and he meets Kate.
Kate is an American nurse and meets Alex while taking care of Igor. She is drawn to his masculinity and larger than life personality. Against her better judgment she falls into bed with Alex. But Alex doesn't do relationships and Kate doesn't do casual. More than that...Alex isn't being honest about who he is and what he does and Kate doesn't want to get burned.
But Alex is relentless in his pursuit of Kate and Kate is powerless to resist him. Alex recognizes that she might be the one woman to complete him and he's willing to risk it all to find out. Kate isn't so willing to make that leap of faith. Will Alex prove to Kate that he's worth taking a chance on? What happens when Alex's enemies come after her? Can Alex and Kate have a HEA?
I loved Alex. He was possessive and dirty and dominant. Was he Julian? No. Which was kind of a bummer. I went in expecting more of a Julian. I also really wanted his POV. Like I NEEDED it which is why my rating is lower.
Kate....lord...that woman annoyed the hell out of me. She was so indecisive and I'm surprised Alex didn't just say ok this woman isn't worth all this haha (jk). She took forever to give Alex a chance even though he did everything to help her see how good they could be together. Major whiplash. Despite her annoying me through well 95% of the story, she did have an independent streak that made her a strong character and I love strong heroines.
Overall, this was a steamy and suspenseful story but it was missing some edge for me and I really could have done with a less annoying heroine and a hero who was more like Julian. This ends on a cliffhanger that wasn't so fun but the second book is out!
No es lo que esperaba. Además del final abierto, la historia se centra más en la obsesión de Álex por la protagonista y no en la mafia, que es por lo que decidí leerla.
