Rising Queen

"Men fear me, women envy me."
My name is Harlow McKaven and
my life has been hell since the moment I was born. But after being tricked and held captive against my will, I have finally snapped. Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, something frightening and bloodthirsty was born.
After burning the demons who locked me away, I took control of my own destiny. I'm now the ruler of Kingston Heights, but that's not enough.
I want all of LA and to slay the monsters within this world.
When some people from my past come back to haunt me, I have a decision to make.
Do I help them?
Or do I turn them away?
After all, I'm gonna need all the help I can get.
My girls, the girls I saved from sex trafficking, are going missing one by one.
But I will get them back and make every fucker pay!
Some call me extreme, others call me certifiably insane but you can call me Queenie.

EXTREME WARNING! Please be strongly advised that this book contains graphic scenes, harsh language. Sexual assault of a minor is mentioned. Graphic sex. This is a Reverse Harem. The Heroine does not choose one love interest but is involved with all. F/F content. BDSM. Trigger warning. If you can't handle all of that, this is not the book for you. You have been advised. Enjoy!

Update: Because of new things I have discovered I have decided to be more honest with myself and thus this review. I apologize to this author but some things must be said.

Something I have noticed about this author after joining her arc team is that anytime she gets a rating lower than 5 stars (even 4), she runs to her FB group to complain about it (including the reviews of her arc readers). This is one of the reasons I left her group but I digress.

After diving into her reviews for her first series, Emerald Lake Prep book one, I came across a reviewer by the name of Shelbie who had been bullied in the comment section of his or her review.

It turns out that Mrs.Williams complained about this particular reviewer on her Facebook group and as a result (whether it was intentional or not), some of her readers/reviewers started to bully him or her.

Having been new to this author and thus without biases, one thing that stood out to me was that the responses to this particular review were completely unwarranted. In my opinion, that reviewer did not have any ill intentions and had actually written an excellent review intended to inform/help a new author. They did not deserve to be bullied for their honest opinion.

Alisha Williams, I don't know if you know this, but after seeing this and seeing how you responded to reviews you didn't like on your FB group. You essentially scared me into giving you a higher rating for this book than I thought you deserved.

Mrs.Williams, I don't know how to tell you this, but 4-star ratings are not the end all be all to an author's life. If you go on Amazon right now you will see that not even the Great Gatsby has all 5-star ratings, and that book is a brilliant piece of literature shared worldwide in schools and has even been adapted into a film. The few 4-star reviews it has does not make it any less brilliant.

My advice to you is to maybe not read every negative review that you get, whether it be constructive or not. Because it seems to me like it is having a negative effect on not only YOUR mental health but also on the well-being of some of your reviewers.

I have never seen an author complain so much about their reviews as you do, and at this point, it feels a lot like you are trying to manipulate people into giving you the ratings you want as opposed to what you deserve. People see you complaining on FB and think: I don't want that to be my review up there next.

I apologize but I do not think this book deserved the number of stars I originally gave it out of fear. That's not to say it is a terrible book, I think you have a lot of potential as an author, it's just that you have a lot of growing to do in both your writing and as a person. I will be keeping my original review the same below. But will be changing the rating to what I originally thought the book deserved.

I wish you the best I do, but I do not think I can read any more of your work.

(My original review starts here)

I may sound harsh at first but please bear with me because that’s not my intention and I do have some good things to say.

Something I’ve noticed in books that have long periods of separation between the FMC and the men. Is that when it’s the FMC's fault that the separation happens, whether it’s because she rejected them to protect them or left them for whatever reason. The FMC in these situations —during the period of separation—always stay celibate, while the men just f*** everything with two legs. Idk why, but I wanted this book to be different because in this situation it was completely the men’s fault that the separation happened, and yet….we don’t see them carry the same amount of guilt that I feel like an FMC would have held had she been in that situation. It reminded me that there’s a kind of a double standard when it comes to things like this and left a bad taste in my mouth. Because the men definitely didn’t stay celibate in this scenario and idk, I kind of wanted to see this trope flipped on its axis. Where we get to see the men stay celibate out of guilt and the FMC gets to f*** everything that moves. I know it’s stupid and I know it’s not the author’s fault that I went in reading with this mindset but I couldn’t help but want to see this scenario play out differently.

Also, this is a personal preference thing that I won’t be taking points off because it’s just pure selfishness and green monster on my part.

Spoiler: Please don’t read if you don’t want this particular aspect of the book spoiled you find out about it pretty early on in the book. I’m just a sensitive soul when it comes to things like this and would have wanted to know before reading.

One of the guys accidentally gets a one-night stand pregnant while on a drunken bender— it was an accident (a happy one he realizes later) because he’s upset about the breakup. We find out quite early on about this, but it was just painful for me. Especially while just the chapter before we had read about the hardships the FMC went through. I mean I’m not gonna lie I really dislike when the men have kids outside of the harem, but I’m fine in certain scenarios. Like if it happens before they meet the FMC. But this scenario? Not so much!!! Because REALLY???? The men had already unintentionally caused the FMC insurmountable pain and grief. Throwing a child into the mix, one that is from another woman really just dug the shards of glass in a little deeper for me. However, as I kept on reading through and got to about 32 % of the book I ended up really loving little Rosie. I don’t love that Cassius got some other chick pregnant, sorry, I get that it was after the breakup and they weren’t really together anymore. I also get that it wasn’t by his or her choice. But the fact that it’s driven home to the readers that Harlow is/was the love of his life and then he got drunk, had sex with, and got another woman pregnant. That sort of scenario always kind of upsets me. Also, I can’t help but wonder why it couldn’t have been one of the other guys, as Cass actually had a special place in her heart at the time and was actually her bf? He was also the first person she had consensual sex with, and she was the first person he was with. That made it even more painful in my opinion. Also, the whole reason Dean pushed Harlow away was to protect her and yet a child was brought into the mix after she left? I think I would have liked for Rosie to be a sister because at least it could have been something their selfish fathers did. Which was to unwisely bring a child into a mafia world. That being said though, I really do love Rosie and her relationship with Harlow is the cutest thing. Those two deserve the world and I think you will agree once you start reading.

So here’s the deal… I was considering dropping the first few chapters in. Because I thought this book clearly was just not for sensitive folk like me and that’s no fault of the author as she writes very well. I’m just obviously not a fan of this trope and how the FMC really just sort of got the short end of the stick —-as a lot of FMCs do. However, I was wrong because ….Harlow stole the show and single-handedly made me decide to continue. Because she doesn’t immediately FORGIVE the men, No she makes them suffer. She f**** another man in front of them, she makes them do emasculating tasks, she puts them in their place. She doesn’t immediately open her heart to them because, let’s be real circumstances aside and this does not include Neo, they don’t deserve her yet. Personally, nobody deserves her except for Evie but that’s just me being biased. I’d literally trade all the guys for one Evie any day. But anyways back to one of the baddest bishes I know (Harlow) She sold this book for me, well her, Rosie and Evie did. Okay fine… I also ended up really liking Neo and although he wasn’t my favorite guy, I couldn’t fault Cass for the other men’s actions. But Dean (don’t like at all lost a lot of respect for him about 80 % in the book) also not a fan of a man not being able to control his urges, and Axel the as***hole. I’m not really sold on them, at all. I definitely took a star off my rating because I was finally liking the men and then Dean happened. Calling an escort to give him a bj, because he couldn’t handle how winded up the FMC got him. Cry me a river, it’s literally his fault the FMC got into all the situations that she was in. Yeah, he didn’t mean for it to happen but it still is and the fact of the matter was he felt GUILTY and yet still did this shit. If she demands celibacy as payment for helping their asses he most certainly should be celibate and be so with a smile on his face. This would’ve been a five-star read for me had Dean not been a dumbass. I don’t enjoy the men in the harem being with other women, personal preference sure, and he was. At that point, Harlow could’ve killed him and I wouldn’t feel any sadness. Are men incapable of being celibate?

But with that all being said, I liked this book more than I thought I would, and do think this author has a true talent for storytelling. Because I’m going to be real, I DO not read books with ow babies or long periods of separation. Those are usually deal-breakers for me, but I definitely ended up reading a great deal of these books before dropping at 81 % and I think that speaks volumes. Was this book for me? No. Will I be reading the next book? Probably not, Dean was a definite deal-breaker for me and I dropped right after that scene. But do I recommend this book to people who are less sensitive than me? Absolutely.

This story is very similar to Den of Vipers. I found it boring and repetitive. I know it's supposed to be over the top, but it just became ridiculous. It wasn't funny and it wasn't intense. The sex was plain and uncreative after all the big talk. All the killing, the laughs for no reason, and Queenie having to scream how scary she was all the time made me hate this book by the end. Let's not even mention the ending.

Are some scenes in this book cringe? Sadly yes 😂
Did I have fun reading the book? Fucking Yes🙂.
Will I read the second book? Of course 🤷🏾‍♀️🤣
I want to see how this dynamic will work because right now it's a disaster in the making 😶.

P.s this book is a dark reverse harem with a very dark FMC 💀😶.

Well all right then. This book was so much fun for me. I find tremendous joy reading the psychos and falling in love with all of them. Don't judge me. Lol.

This was my first book by Alisha, but it is definitely not going to be my last. #TeamNeo for me even though I love her with all of the guys. *SIGH* Even Axel though I want to nut punch him most of the time. There's just something about the way Queenie and Neo don't give two sh*ts to let their crazy side out.

I can't wait to see where Alisha takes us on this crazy journey with Queenie, Neo, Cassius, Dean, Axel, Evie, and little Rosie.

How old?

This author’s profile says she’s married with two children. I checked because it reads like a 15 year old wrote it. At 12% I couldn’t stand to read another word. This is in my top 10 worst books list. Save yourself the anguish and move on.

this book. i have no words. i am in love with all of the characters, even axel.

i am a big fan of books where the fmc is just insane and rules the world. it’s a nice change from the guy having all the power over the girl. harlow, or queenie, is who i aspire to be. well not the killing part but i love how she doesn’t care what anyone thinks. she is who she is and if you have a problem with that, then too bad so sad. i loved neo, the second he was mentioned, he just made me laugh with his psychopathic ways and his love for susie and bob. i loved cass, and how he had so much love to give, even with his heart being broken. i loved dean and i just kept waiting for him to see what was right in front of him. and axel is well…axel. i don’t hate him but i think he has a lot to work through.

A lot of RH are enemies to lovers based, so when i find ones that aren’t like that, it makes me love them even more. despite the past that the boys had with harlow, they didn’t blame her. they knew what they did was wrong and saw her as a strong woman (even axel). i’m saying that like i’m not absolutely in love with the silver valley university series by alisha williams and only one of the books is out. AND it’s enemies to lovers. but i just love alisha’s writing

im still trying to process it all and get my feelings into words but if you’re looking at the reviews to see if you should read this book, i highly recommend reading it.

HOWEVER!!!!!!!! i am able to read a lot of dark things and touchy subjects in books, so please please please check tw before reading this book because there is a lot of stuff in this book that some may have a difficult time reading.

and yes i am going to read the second book, even though the third one isn’t out yet. so be prepared for my review of it and listen to me complain about how dumb i am for starting a series that isn’t finished. but i don’t care!!! i am loving this series and no one will ruin my fun (except for me but whatever)

This is totally not what I thought was coming when I started reading this book. I read the Emerald Lake Prep series and Harlow was introduced during the second book of the series, I had assumed that they would sort of pick up during that time and maybe have some flashbacks to the past. I am so glad that this story was taken in the direction that it was, I absolutely love stories where they guys have to grovel to the girl that they wronged. This book is FANTASTIC!!! It's bloody, psychotic, and full of emotions. I am so excited to see where this story goes, because this book is so intriguing.

I absolutely loved this one, you can't help but adore a stabby, slightly nutty FMC who has a big heart even if she doesn't realise it.

This book can be read as a stand alone contemporary RH, it's left with a happily for now feel with more to come which I personally can't wait for. As soon as I finished reading, I was like I need more! Its addictive reading.

The harem part is still coming together at the end of the book, which is great as the relationships aren't being rushed and are being given the chance to grow and change. I don't want to say too much but they all have very different relationships with Harlow which I enjoyed...I don't even have a clear favourite and that's almost unheard of.

I enjoyed the overall feel of the book and the storyline and literally devoured it, highly enjoyable, definitely recommend!

Rising Queen is a story unlike any other I've ever read before. We got a little preview of Harlow/Queenie's antics in Into The Unknown (ELP, #2) and in this book, we finally get more into how she became the person she is when she meets Emmy.

This book is unpredictable, bloody, and at the same time, unbelievably sweet. It's full of dark situations, super steamy sex scenes, working toward forgiveness, discovering new sides of yourself and learning to accept love, even in the craziest of circumstances. I haven't ever read a reverse harem like this one and I'm excited to read more, for the relationships to continue to grow, and for them all to find some happiness in the darkness that they're surrounded by most days.

Queenie is such a badass character who has made the most of her situation and become a fierce protector of those who work for her...her family. If you love a bloodthirsty, slightly unhinged, but also really caring FMC, you're going to love Queenie. The guys are all so unique - Dean is the cold, calculating one, Axel is the definition of asshole, Cass is the sweetheart and Neo is just as unpredictable and crazy has Queenie. Get all five of them together and it's bound to keep things interesting!

Really looking forward to seeing what Alisha comes up with for the next book in the series and seeing how Queenie, the guys and Rosie learn to live together and become a weird, crazy, loving family of their own.

FYI: If you've read the ELP series, it's important to note that this book takes place before the ELP novels!

Rising Queen by Alisha Williams

I Give this Book a Sincere 5/5 Star Rating.

This is a smorgasbord of yummy-dark-delightfulness!

This is Book 1 after all, so it’s also essentially giving you the groundwork for the series. I sincerely hope this series doesn’t end soon ☺️
This is one of my rare reviews where my Rating for this book won’t match my rating list.
This is an on the edge of your seat read, you’re waiting/anticipating who is gonna jump out of the woodwork.
To me this is a well written book and it’s also a definite slow burn (which I’m a huge fan of, NO ‘insta’ in sight here 😆) and you just love it.
This is a definite buy for me, and I’ve never read this author before and I’m eager to read her other series.
Well Done! Can’t wait to see what else I’m up Queenie’s Sleeve!

No Spoilers.
Cliffhanger(?): Yes
HEA(?): Not Yet 😆😁
Relationship Type: RH> Reverse Harem: MFMM and maybe another M or so? 😆 and possibly an F? At some point? 😃

Queenie/Harlow is a straight badass boss bitch! This book was fantastic, bloody, dark, gritty and HOT/SEXY AF!!! I loved diving into her story and seeing how she became the woman she is today and how fiercely she loves and protects those around her. Be prepared for a whole lot of blood and an emotional roller coaster ride! Our author has this amazing way she writes each character as well as the relationship building with each character as well as the relationship as a group. Alisha absolutely blew my mind with this book I was captured from the very first page and it just kept getting better and better as the story went on. I really looking forward in seeing where we are taken next and watching how Harlow’s relationship with the guys grows. I was happy to see that we get a happily for now ending and I can’t wait for more! If you love a cray cray FMC that spares no one and is strong enough to take on the world than Rising Queen aka Queenie is for you!! You will love her and her story! Be prepared to be addicted! This one deserves so many more than 5 stars!!!

At 18, Harlow was rejected by 4 boys she thought cared and then abducted into trafficking for 5 years. After she is able to escape she has re-made herself into Queenie and built herself an empire. Now those 4 boys are back and need her help. I love how Queenie owns and accepts all of her messed up parts. While she helps the guys, she does it on her terms and gets some revenge on them in the process. Queenie is similar to Harley Quinn and she is is a little bit psychotic. I was hooked and stayed up way to late because I couldn’t put it down. Thankfully it was the weekend, so I could sleep in :) I also liked that this doesn’t have a cliffhanger - although, you definitely want more, can’t wait for book 2!

I'm a bit speechless after reading this book, I mean, there is so very much to say, and not enough space or time!

Dark, twisted, hilarious, edgy, with legit psycho chick vibes, yes please! This book was a read in one sitting, as in I can't put it down, the story, the plot, the sexy times (HAWWWWT) and the character interaction was fantastic, as in it really draws you in.

Queenie is one of the best female characters I have ever read, she is damaged, and yet has risen from that to be a strong female who will not take anyone's crap anymore! She is true to herself, true to those under her protection, she is super funny, she creates a delicate balance that everyone within her world dances in. I am dying to see what is next in this series!

I’m still not sure about this one. Its graphic, there’s a lot of death, mentions of abuse and child abuse and nothing is subtle. Reading this one felt like a scripted drama club reading and very in your face. I didn’t like how Rosie’s situation was used to make Queenie look better to the guys. The growing farm was entertaining and Neo being the matching crazy was interesting. Apart from Cas, Dean and Axel felt a bit forced. Felt sorry for Evie. Essentially a vigilante murder fest with fairytale references.

I am sooo excited for you all to read this book! I had the opportunity to beta read for it and Queenie quickly became my favorite character! I love her character in Emerald lake prep but seeing her develop into this badass person who she quickly became and learning why she became this way is soooo much better than anything I could have imagined!

Alisha is a genius!!! Every single time I thought “this can’t get any better,” she did it, it got better and better until she just blew me away! The character build up is perfect and Lord help me those sex scenes are freaking panty melting!

This is the back story of Queenie and her men and boy, oh boy, is it a story!?! There are lots of triggers in this book so be sure to read the warning labels... Honestly, it was so well written that even when I thought maybe this is a limit, it wasn’t, because Alisha is amazing and knows what she is doing that I was begging for more!

Dark themed- yes!
Triggers- yes, kidnapping, rape lots of other I’m sure
Sex steam factor- hmm 🤔 12/10 because those scenes are so damn hot 🔥🔥🔥
Plot- 10/10 left no holes in the storyline
Burn- medium to fast burn

I recommend everyone should read this book, it is absolutely amazing and my favorite! If I could give it more stars I would 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

There was no F/F in this book but there will probablybe in the future series. Queenie to me was a well rounded character. She knows what she is doing and doesn't care how people react. As long as they are not disrespectful.
This book reminds me a lot like Den of Vipers except the female and male role reversed. Queenie runs and owns her men.

Nothing better than a crazy deranged Woman! My absolute favorite is when the female is someone no one will mess with. This is dark, lots of triggers, read the warnings before you delve in. This isn’t a HEA, at least thus far. I bloody loved it!

Holy hotness… So much pain, love, anger, sex and blood all wrapped in a great story. I love Harlow/Queenie and *most* of her boys, Axel really needs to get with the program. It’s a lot to handle, but so worth it as they heal their wounds and relationships.

Great book

Rising Queen was awesome. Alisha Williams did an amazing job writing it. There is a lot of triggers so take the warnings seriously. This book is a must read for anyone who likes their romance dark and twisty! I love Queenie and her men. Am very intrigued by Sam. Looking forward to book 2 :)
