Achieve a balanced mood, clear thinking, and abundant energy through transformative methods based on groundbreaking research on the gut-heart-brain-axis.
Depression, anxiety, and burnout are the plague of modern times. Mental wellness issues afflict millions of people worldwide and account for billions of dollars spent on pharmaceuticals and “feel better” products. Unfortunately, most of these solutions make us feel “different” but not really “better”–and certainly not how we want to feel. Nurturing the Brain-Body-Biome is the superhighway to improve physical energy, mental acuity, and emotional well-being through nutrition, movement, and mindset.
Written by expert Psychonutritionist Dr. Shawn Talbott―a nutritional biochemist who has dedicated years of research and a dozen books to the study of nutritional psychology―Mental Fitness provides a clear, actionable path to optimize the connection across the Brain-Body-Biome and feel better naturally.
The book has a lot of facts to back up the authors central theme, but not very many actionable steps (besides fifty pages of supplement suggestions). I assumed the book would be good for a general person wanting to be more healthy, but it was written more like a scientific journal. I was convinced by page 2, but then read 200 more pages supporting everything presented on that second page.
So in short, it isn't a bad book, I just did not find it very helpful for me, and I don't think anyone outside of the scientific community will find it very helpful.
Mental Fitness provides us hope and ownership in achieving mind-body stability and wellness by providing an easy to digest understanding of our complex brains and bodies. Dr. Shawn continues to generously share his knowledge and expertise while being compassionate with the human struggle for consistency. His book provides a step-by-step approach to taking control and achieving optimal health making this a necessary read for all.
this did seem to be to be a very thoroughly researched material. Unfortunately, I found it boring and I couldn't read it properly; I skimmed through most of it, since it included a lot of medical terms, information I had already read elsewhere (which I did find useful when I read it, so I still recommend the content!) and all in all, even though I have found myself enjoying scientific reads, I probably found my limit with this one!
This book couldn't be more perfectly timed. Understanding ways to support and enhance our mental fitness and how that differs from mental illness is the one of most important topics of our generation. Dr. Shawn has the incredible ability to take complex scientific topics and break them down into bite size, relatable and digestible chunks and couple them with easy to implement solutions. This book should be required reading.
