this one is only slightly better than the rest, but it’s mostly because we finally get to see some development in these characters. don’t get me wrong, it’s not much development, but it gives a little context to a couple characters, most notably tarek and adam.
but again, the logistics of the book don’t make any sense. the ending with “guards, arrest this man” is the most insane thing i’ve ever seen. why did no one say “bro, we’re personal security, not a private police force.” it literally makes no sense.
and the whole deal with kat and adam is so weird. she’s being held hostage, gets access to a cell phone, does not call the police. she’s clearly just not very bright at all. she’s also paraded around a party full of people who are all famous, but are not all employed by adam, and doesn’t take that opportunity to say anything to anyone. she’s in the bathroom at one point with multiple other women and doesn’t say “help me get out of here”??? which is obviously no guarantee that that would work, but she literally doesn’t even consider it.
i’m gonna read the last one because it’s there and because the thing i have the most curiosity about is connor. but generally, i’ve written off the plot of these books as just the weirdest fucking one direction x reader fanfic that exists. it’s not good. it’s not well developed. but it’s entertaining.
the funniest part of this book is that in spite of literally all of adam’s batshit crazy behavior, he’s completely right about kat’s lack of experience, ethics and ability to be a manager (or do literally anything because the last thing we saw her do in any sort of professional capacity was to create the weird little trailer for the band that still has not completed even one song.)
he’s also right that the only reason she even has this “position” (where she does absolutely nothing and calls it management, just like the rest of the world) without throwing her pussy at everyone who walks by. and again, if she had had more than 1 whole conversation with any of these men before sleeping with them, i wouldn’t still be bringing jt up. but let us remember, the virgin who has no friends and had never kissed a boy lost her virginity in an orgy involving 4 other people less than a week after meeting them and then had the audacity to say they’re special and in love. that’s not romance, that’s sociopathy.
so like…fuck adam, he’s a monster. but he’s not wrong. which is somehow the funniest plot twist, but i think it’s totally accidental.
