Grizzly Killer #13

Grizzly Killer: Sacred Ground

Rate this book
“Lane R Warenski does a fabulous job of recreating the life, danger, beauty and heroism of the western mountain man.”

It is a long and treacherous journey to the mountains, some braved the dangers to escape the sure death from a rich and powerful man, while others were looking for the freedom they have never known. For some it was a job, a job that paid much better than working in Saint Louis, as others hoped to find their riches in the fur trade.

For Gabe and his new wife Jenny, they had to escape the reaches of a father seeking vengeance. For Toby and Letty they were running toward freedom they did not understand.

Zach Connors better known as Grizzly Killer and his partners made the trip to Rendezvous to trade for supplies that Gabe and Toby were helping bring to the Rocky Mountain Rendezvous. While their wives Jenny and Letty followed behind in a lone wagon.

The question they are all will they find their own Sacred Ground?

Not a better series anywhere!

I came upon these books by accident,..or was it luck..either way. I have not regretted one word or minute I have been engrossed in either of these 13 books. And I pray there are atleast that many more. Mr. Warenski..weaves this stories together with the ease of spreading soft butter! The stories and the characters are so strong and touching. I was to be there with them. I can vividly envision the book in my mind as I read it,..because Mr Warenski paints the entire photo for you. 5 stars is not enough to truly say how well written and put together as these books are. Thank you Mr Warenski for sharing your talent with us. Oh and lastly but most importantly. These books are written without every other word being a 4 letter word and with class and not vulgarity!

Lane Warenski – Grizzly Killer Bk 13 – Sacred Ground – Reviewed 5/28/21 – Read 5/22-23/21

Where can you hide when you are running for your life? Right into the arms of “Grizzly Killer”!

We begin this adventure with a touch of sadness, Zach, known as Grizzly Killer, decided that it was time for a visit with his Pa. He boarded his trusty mule, Ol’ Red, the two of them along with Jimbo, his most unusual dog and companion, headed for the place that he had named for him, Grizzly creek. Along the way he remembered the day the big grizzly had attacked his pa, leaving him near death, it was a day that would never leave his mind. But he also pondered on other more happier memories of both of his parents, along with how he came to be where he was today. Just before he got to the area though, Jimbo, stopped, Zach could see the hair on his back raised and his ears cocked. Then Jimbo took off towards a dark spot. Zach pulled his rifle and ready himself for another fight. Then the dark spot raised up and Jimbo started dancing around it. Well, Zach knew that they had come across another friend that they had not seen in quite a while. Trapper, the orphaned bear cub that he and his family had raised. He watched as the two cavorted for a while, then he mounted and continued on. Finding the place where his father rested, Zach knew that he was on sacred ground.

Resting near the grave, he began remembering lots of wonderful memories and took a light snooze that was filled with a weird dream. Waking up, Zach knew that it was time to head back to Grizzly Village, his home that he shared with his friends and wives. Ely, an old friend that had joined the village rushed up to him and stated, “We is bout to have a baby!” This was Ely’s first and he sure was excited and anxious! Soon everyone could hear the moans and words, push again, till they finally heard that one that they had been waiting for, the wailing cry of a newborn! Zach thought Ely was going to pass out, till Sun Flower came out of the teepee and led Ely back inside. Join Grizzly killer and all the members of their village as they prepare to leave for Rendezvous, where they will meet two young people that have been running for their lives!

And the story begins…

What did I like? I think what I like most about this series, is the lead character and his relationship with animals, friends, and family. When we think about the period that this storyline is written in, many things come to mind. But for me there are two, first; the relationship that men had with each other and their animals, and second; how those men treated their surroundings. I admire characters that are strong but not afraid to show that they have a heart. How they treated the world around them with respect, be it a person, animal, or the environment. Most men born during that time were raised with these values, those values, that somehow, someway have been lost over the years. I would like to see them return!

What will you like? The first will be the action, it fills nearly every page, all the way through, from reuniting with old friends, births, new friends, mysterious attacks, old history, and interaction of wildlife. We see how men came together to help and protect each other, gaining respect and friendships. You will experience the revered way of the Native American traditions and how they played a part in daily life. Gain a feeling for the life of the mountain people and why they played such an important part in our history. Even though this is a fictional account, listen as the author takes the past and weaves it into his amazing storyline, for all of us to enjoy.

Fortunately, I have had the opportunity to read most of not all of the Grizzly Killer books, but I have to say this is one of the most compelling story this far! Believe me when I say keep your hankie close, as there are some tear jerking moments throughout this compelling western masterpiece!

Most definitely five stars worthy, as Mr. Warenski's outstanding descriptiveness of each and every exciting adventure maintains your undivided attention from beginning to end! Grizzly Killer goes above and beyond in his efforts to assist two runaway slaves and the couple that successfully helped them in their ongoing efforts! Fast moving frontier folklore masterpiece, and the ongoing heartwarming camaraderie among this compelling group of individuals is unsurpassed in their commanding efforts to successfully succeed in all their efforts!
The Author's outstanding descriptive storylines definitely reaches out and grabs your undivided attention from beginning to end, as these four individuals, upon meeting Grizzly Killer, finds themselves easily adapting to the necessary needs to meet their demands! Too, the Author's perfectly selected groups of characters are unsurpassed in their commanding descriptive assignments, and no punches are pulled from beginning to end, when the rubber meets the road!
It should go without saying, but yes, I definitely recommend this superbly written series of unending adventures to all readers, regardless of your reading pleasure! You dyed in the wool western enthusiasts will definitely enjoy following these dramatic circumstances of how I often perceived our old American West was finally tamed! Even you non-western enthusiasts will find yourselves unable to put this compelling western folklore masterpiece down, once you get the gist of the storybook series of ongoing western folklore adventures this group encounters throughout their many endeavors! To not follow all the Author has to off will definitely be your loss!!!😃

Traditions, superstitions and life itself in the old west was difficult at best but friendship and honesty usually won out. As people moved west in the 1830's, it became more and more obvious to the old timers in the mountains and the native Indians that this was the future. Settlers wanted the freedom to live peaceful, farm the land and not be crowded. It was no different for Zach Connors who had come with his Pa about ten years ago. He is now married with children, knows many languages of tribes in the area and his own village high in the mountains is gaining in size as years pass. This book adds settlers Gabe and Jenny plus former slaves Toby and Letty along with a couple newborn babies. It's true excitement on each page.

Another page turner

I stumbled upon this series quite by accident. I am so glad I did. The story line reminds me of something John Wayne or Clint Eastwood would star in if it had been a movie. The way Mr. Warenski writes paints a picture of how rugged the times were and the amazing landscape. I can't wait for the next book to be written. My only issue is I would like it to be longer because I'm selfish that way.

Great Read

I mostly read regular history but I have read all 13 of these books. I’am not sure I can put into words how much I enjoy the story’s. I think it’s because you want to think that there are people in this world that actually feel the way the people in the book do. Can’t wait for the next book! Thanks

I enjoyed this book as I have all in the series. It can be a stand alone book and the story would still great but it is better to read the series. The new characters he introduced could have been a book by themselves. I like his books are only a few hours long but keep you interested the whole way.
