SEGUNDA LECTURA: 24/01/23

Intimidating looks
Underestimate us too much... And we'll pick you clean.

This volume was so hype simply because I already knew what was coming, so the anticipation was literally making me shake and slam the book against my face as I was reading because I couldn't handle it.

Before the hype-as-frick season three of the anime came out I wasn't even really planning on continuing with reading the manga since I already watched the anime. But then season three happened... And I once again became determined to get caught up with the manga. Especially since a new anime season is probably not going to be made for a while (two years maybe, because the third season caught up pretty close to the manga). Obviously the manga was no disappointment.

You might be thinking, "Well duh you liked the manga, because you already watched and liked the anime," but au contraire, it is not so simple!! Tokyo Ghoul is my favourite anime but I found myself not really enjoying its manga. Probably because I picked it up much too soon after finishing the anime, so it was still too fresh, but still. With this in mind, I'm very happy that I'm enjoying the manga of Haikyuu!! so much.

These books are just kind of annoying to read because they arn't sold in stores and the shipping time is long. Also I thought it was great when I first saw that the volumes were being published monthly, but I have since then realized that AIN'T NOBODY GOT THE DIMES FOR THAT!!!!!!!!!!! I ain't got the money to be ordering a book online every month!!! And it causes me to need to order multiple books at once to get free shipping!! It is just such a hassle. Thus why I'm a million volumes behind right now. Great. Love it.

Fantastic series though, 10/10.

I love this volume so much, it really has such great pacing and the characters are so awesome, the excitement buids up as we finally get the big match vs an opposition, in this case Blue castle, regardless its a practise match but I love the intensity and love for the game this series will make you feel, so many awesome moments in the game and its like watching a real game and thats hard to pull of, so kudos on that and Oikawa is like the standout.. he has a short presence but you can feel his confidence and Intimidation! Lovely ending with Nishinoya and I can't wait to see what challenges the Karasuno team goes up against next!!
__________________________________________________________________
This volume was quite good, showing more of the partnership between KAGEYAMA and HINATA and then showing how their move is invincible and then having the match of KARASUNO vs Aobajousai high school and the brunt of volume is this match, its intense and like Karasuno is losing the first set and that too badly but its the turnaround in the 2nd and 3rd that was amazing to read, the way the team bounced back after it was quite awesome. Its pure action and some great panelling, you could follow the way Hinata would strike the bowl or the serves, the art in this issue was on another level altogether! Plus we also get to meet OIKAWA and Karasuno team has some confidence now and next we go towards Summer Prelims! Also the coming of Nishinoya next! Amazing read and the series keeps on getting better!

I did really enjoy this. The overall theme is really good and inspiring, as well as the characters are so funny and wholesome. I'm really looking forward to read the rest.

(However, I do believe the portrayal of women is...bad in this. There's only one female character, and so far she's been reduced to just being a character who's only personality trait is being pretty. It's just volume 2, so things can change, hopefully.)

I enjoyed jumping back in with these crazy guys! They’re all so fun and I really love Hinata and his enthusiasm and love for the game and what he’s doing even if he’s not the greatest at playing yet. And I even liked Kageyama here which is shocking since he’s such a huge jerk in Volume One. And hopefully I can keep up with who’s who on our main team plus all the others as we go along or I’m in trouble, lol!

I felt a tiny bit lost with how volleyball works and how the game’s played and who certain people were on certain teams but hopefully that will become less so as I keep reading and learn more. Super fun seeing the team all work together though instead of fight, haha!

Still enjoying this and curious to see where these boys go! Now I just have to wait on the library again…

‼️Content‼️

Language: sucked; what the heck; holy crap; freakin’; dammit; dang it; geez; characters flash a middle finger (3 times); heck; dissed; screwing up; dangit; suck

Violence: a volleyball smacks characters’ heads and shoulder

Sexual: a girl is called hot and sexy

This counts as my review for the whole Haikyuu!! manga

”You don’t win alone.
That’s just how it is.”

READ FOR: best character developments and themes that I have ever encountered
READING LEVEL: Level 1-3 out of 5

*All of my reviews are as spoiler-free as possible unless stated otherwise*

I don’t think I’ll ever have enough words to express how much I love this manga and anime series but I’ll try anyway. But I just need to make it known that this has changed my view in anime and manga forever. I caught up with this manga in the last 30 or so chapters but I won’t say much to avoid spoilers... but it was crazy.

It made me laugh, cry, fall in love, think, and honestly... what else do you need in a series? I can keep going on and on about this series but honestly I think you should just read it for yourself. I really don't think you'll regret it.

When someone asks me what the plot is, honestly, all I can say is “they play volleyball” HAHAHA… but it’s so much more than that.

description

PLOT: ★★★★★
The plot was so well thought of from the very beginning and when I re-read the manga I can’t believe the amount of foreshadowing Furudate actually placed. My mind was so blown… I just. No words. I am seriously in love.

ART STYLE: ★★★★★
The art style… *chef’s kiss* especially in the later arcs. There were so many matches but even then Furudate never failed to leave me breathless at each one.

description

CHARACTERS: ★★★★★
The character development here is THE BEST. HANDS DOWN. that I have ever come across. I fell in love with the so many characters in this series that I did not even think that was possible.

The character relationships... the character dynamics... their mindsets... they are all so perfectly well done and realistic GAHHHH I've said this so many time throughout this review BUT THEY JUST MADE ME FALL IN LOVE SO EASILY. I can't pick my favourite one but hinata and kageyama just hold a special place in my heart.

This connects to the themes but my favourite thing that was done with the characters here was that each one of them embodied a theme or a message that the author wanted to get across. Those are spoilers so I won’t really talk about it but just know that it was one of the main reasons that made me go so crazy about this series.

*cough* hinata kageyama atsumu sakusa bokuto kita noya ushijima tendou tsukki suga kenma kuroo *cough* +++

Note: if you think this series is focused on only 1 team... you're in it for A RIDEEEEEE

description
I'm getting chills just looking at and remembering these panels ^^

THEMES: ★★★★★
Honestly I basically thought the themes were just gonna be “teamwork” and “friendship”… while it is all that, Furudate sensei was able to make it even deeper.

I think the one that was focused on the most was “It’s not always about winning, it’s about growth”. But there were also so many smaller things that lead up to that bigger point: (1) we get our strength from others, (2) but you also need to make yourself dependable, (3) there is always room for improvement, (4) working hard is good but overworking yourself isn’t, (5) you are built on the small things you do everyday, (6) an ace's back should be an inspiration to your teammates (hi bokuto), (7)+++

The way I wrote it was very straight to the point but I was amazed at how Furudate tackled the so many messages that I received from this series.

description

PACING: ★★★★★
THE TIMING. OF EVERYTHING. JUST MAKES SENSE.

It’s so realistic that I want to cry. (I actually already did… a lot of times.)

description

PAGE TURNER: ★★★★★

You should understand that I made this review weeks after I finally calmed down about this series cuz I was really going crazy about it HAHAHA if you have finished this series too or met me while I was reading this, you know what I’m talking about ;)

I'll keep this series close to my heart until the grave. You cannot convince me otherwise.

Updated Review 1/18/25: "I didn't have to get myself all worked up about all that other stuff before…"

This volume has the scene from the anime that got me not only hooked on Haikyuu!!, but also indefinitely changed my life as a person. Hinata was my favorite character before this volume, but I felt he took the place of my all-time favorite character very quickly, which had been absent before this volume.

While writing out how this volume changed me on such a deep level would be too long to post here, I should seriously write a blog post about it (or something) one day! For now, though I will say that I LOVED seeing the team come together and how wonderful, special, interesting, and beautiful it was! So many ups and downs, but they each grew closer together as a team!

I'm excited to know Noya will be in the next volume because he is always a blast!

Unrelated to him though, it was interesting for me personally to see how I didn't dislike Oikawa this time around since I know the first time I read it, I did. LOL! I know a large part of that is because my favorite arc near the end of the series has him in it, which in turn made me really excited to see him here again! Granted just a lot differently than later on when we see him again! LOL!

Definitely another amazing volume and so excited to be back!

Original Review 10/14/21: WOW! Soooooo much stuff happens in these volumes! It's definitely non-stop action and not sure how my brain is handling all of it! LOL!

BUT! I absolutely love it! I've only seen the anime straight through, but it's been such a fun journey reading through the manga as I feel it hits different. Like Yamaguchi for example is SO soft in the manga! He's cute in the anime, but he's even cuter in the manga!

I still can't get over the art! I really love just admiring some of the panels because they are so awesome!

Also, that opening chapter is my all time favorite in the whole manga of Haikyu! It moves me every single time. *sobs*

Another fantastic volume where we continue to see how epic everyone is and even meet new characters!

Omg, this series is already amazing and I love it and everyone is my precious baby and I want to hug them and cheer them on and AAAHHHHHHH!!! *happy fangirl squeals*

This was a great second volume and an awesome volume in general! I loved seeing Kageyama bounce between supportive team member to dictatorial asshole every few minutes and poor Hinata just trying to do his best. It's okay, you're doing great, sweetie!

Tanaka and Tsukishima teaming up to look down on the opposing team was absolutely priceless, they're such little shits and I love them.

And their adviser is so damn cute and precious! Damn, why is everyone so fucking precious in this series?! It's killing me!

Finally, on a more serious note, subtle character growth is Kageyama explaining how he applied to the best school and was rejected, all said with a nasty glare on his face, then seeing him explain the same thing to Tanaka in this volume with a more laid back, accepting look. That's how you do it, folks.

So yeah, I already love this series and am so ready to buy the rest of the current volumes (already own 2-11). This is so great, can't wait to read more!

This is actually really fun to read side by side with watching the anime. It's interesting to see all the little changes. So far it's mostly the same although the anime added a couple of things to add a little more to the story. I love these dumbasses.

"𝙌𝙪𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙛𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙙𝙤𝙣'𝙩 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤!"

Oh, man! Talk about intense! Karasuno managed to bag their first win in their debut (practice) match against Aoba Johsai, no less. However, they need to strengthen their defense for the upcoming tourney. The first victory as a team is always special which makes it extra-special for Hinata.
