A must read for fans of high fantasy epics, this sword and sorcery high adventure series will be your new favorite fantasy read.

The Corruption Has Seeped Through

The army of the dead has begun to rally from their recent defeat, slaughtering the nomads of the out-regions.

Reza, the saren knight responsible for the arisen lord’s recent defeat, struggles with Nomad, her cursed companion, drawing her and her friends thin and to their wits end in helping him to resist the call of darkness welling up deep within him.

Met with indolence from the region’s leaders, they are left to make strange connections and allies to help in defending their home state from impending doom. The dead are within the Southern Sands borders, and few have prepared for the imminent tides of war.

Lords of the Sands is the second book in a high fantasy trilogy that has deep roots in dark magic, Lovecraftian horror, and the occult. It’s an epic fantasy fiction novel that will leave you wanting more from the vibrant cast of characters you’ll grow to love.

I was offered a copy of both Lords of the Sands and its prequel with a request for an honest review. My overall summary for both books: The series is high fantasy, following a group of adventurers as they face an army of the undead. Overall, the series' concept and plot are interesting and engaging. The core group of characters are likeable and well-written. One of the strengths of the series is the worldbuilding; the cultures are well-developed and fascinating to read about, and the wider implications of the plot have visible effects on the world, which I enjoyed. However, the style of writing wasn't for me as I felt there was a lot of overwriting - this is typical of high fantasy novels and more of a personal taste issue.

Lords of the Sands was unfortunately not as strong as the first book. It started positively but around the halfway point the story became a little lost amongst all the characters. The story leads directly on from the events of the first book and deals with the aftermath of the initial reconnaissance mission. At around the halfway point more characters are introduced and become the main focus of the book. In my opinion, there were too many characters and it became a little confusing to keep track of who was who. Everyone split off into groups and some characters' storylines seemed to be dropped completely, especially those of the original cast.

The fight scenes again were written excellently, though I felt the final battle scenes were a little detached due to there being no focal point. I felt this book suffered from second book syndrome, as the ending was abrupt and the majority of it felt like filler to set up the third book in the series.

That being said, I felt the worldbuilding in this book was excellent and had a lot of potential that could be explored in other books, for example the prevalence of religion

Overall, I think this book would be a good bridging point between the first and third books, but doesn't stand well on its own.

Received as an audio review copy from Story Origin, this is an honest review. The gorgeous and dark sequel to Shadow of the Arisen, Lords of the Sands brilliantly expands this immersive series into an even more precarious adventure as Nomad's warrior comrades fight to find hope to cast out the demonic curse that's slowly consuming Nomad's life and soul as it makes his presence dangerous when he dominated by the darkness. Despite Reza being constantly warned that Nomad's fate is already sealed, Reza and the others sacrifice all they have to journey to the darkest of the Arisen to save a friend. While I did miss Nathaniel Priestley's wondrous performance style, Jak McDonough that narrates this book brings a superb and passionate take upon established characters and the new ones brought to life within the book. Smart, intense battles and poignant bonds of friendship make this series unforgettable... whether you read or listen. Highly recommended.

Oh my goodness! So pleasantly surprised!

The second installment of Paul Yoder’s “Lands of Wanderlust” trilogy we begin another fantastical journey with old and new characters. After battling the arisen army, Nomad has been left with a battle wound that may or may not heal. The dark stain of the arisen has not been banished as we had hoped.
Dive deeper and find yourself immersed into its highs and lows. Meet new unlikely friends, begin to understand how good and evil isn’t so simple as “right” and “wrong”.
Paul Yoder does it again with this epic fantasy. I’m already looking forward to the next book. I found myself captivated and can’t wait to see what happens next, to learn more of what this macrocosm has to offer.
Book Two “Lords of the Sands” will be available on Amazon on May 25 2021 or head on over to authorpaulyoder.com to order signed copies!

I enjoyed book 2 as much as book 1. Once the audiobook started, I had to listen until the end as the story was so captivating. The story had all that was needed to create a great fantasy story. The characters were memorable. The action was pretty much non-stop. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Jak McDonough's narration was fine and kept my attention. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Nomad is cursed from a blade and Reza is trying to find a cure for him before he gets worse and causes more devastation. Yozo wants to get revenge on Nomad because of something he was supposed to done. Fin and the rest are trying to figure out how to defeat the Arisen before it destroys their lands. Lots of intense moments and a real page turner. Lots of intense moments. Looking forward to reading next book in series.
