Keriya Soulstar is at the center of Allentria's desperate battle for freedom. Its people have been broken, and it's up to her to deliver them from Necrovar's tyranny. Along with her ragtag troupe of friends, she travels to the Imperial City and beseeches the newly returned dragons to aid in the war effort.
There's just one problem: the dragons refuse to join the fight. Without their help, Keriya fears the war might be unwinnable, yet she forces herself to press on. With the fate of the world hanging in the balance, she can afford no distractions, no fear, and no weakness.
That's easier said than done. As Necrovar gathers allies from across the planet and the Allentrian forces rally for the showdown that will decide their fate, Keriya finds herself dangerously unbalanced. She's facing legions of enemies the likes of which she's never seen...
I enjoyed every one of her books I had a hard time putting each book down to go on to the next one the character s seemed so real you couldn't help but like them and hope they would live for the next book
This was an EPIC instalment of the Dargon War Saga. This book has a LOT more action in it than the others. Like 200 pages of epic battles with dragons, magic, demons, warriors, elves, mages, nereids. It was AWESOME!
There's also some action between characters that I've been dying for since Dragon Blood and it was so satisfying. This book is YA though so no spice but Mugdan made it work! Seriously, the slow burn was KILLING me.
Keriya battles both physical and mental enemies as she struggles to achieve redemption for the mistakes she's made and the people she has hurt. Her trauma weighs heavily on her soul, and her quest to atone drives her to the edge of what her soul can take, and culminates in a showdown of epic proportions with her nemesis, Necrovar.
Before I started reading this series, I read Kill Your Darlings, a stand alone novel by LE Harper, which is a pen name of Elana Mugdan. KYD is an adult novel that is heavily inspired by this novel series in metaphorical ways that I feel gave me a backstage pass into the real conflict between Keriya and Necrovar (the two stories are sooooo closely aligned, but KYD is adult and focuses on inner demons more than external ones, but still). The magic and character complexity Mugdan has created in Keriya Soulstar is so complex and deep; reading KYD beforehand gave me a greater appreciation for Keriya's arc for sure. So if you haven't already, add Kill Your Darlings by LE Harper to your tbr because its sooooo good and compliments this series so much.
This series is amazing and I can't wait to read book 5, Dragon Empress. Thank the gods I already have it.
Also, INCREDIBLY, this series has given me an appreciation for algebra which I NEVER thought was possible, so well done Mugdan. If you're curious how, read it. It's MAGIC.😉
Shivnath though. Like. Gah. Shivnath. ShivNATH😫 has got a LOT of explaining to do.
