The Taliban want her dead. But first they have to get past Breed.
Breed, a Delta Force veteran, is surprised when he is called to meet an old acquaintance—CIA agent Anya Stein. She offers Breed a mission he can’t refuse—to rescue an American soldier, Robyn Trainor, held captive in the mountains of Afghanistan.
When the mission goes sideways, the Taliban hunt Breed and Robyn over some of the harshest terrain on the planet—thousand-foot cliffs, wailing wind, and freezing nights. It’s a landscape from hell, every bit as lethal as the killers chasing them.
As the Taliban close in, Breed finds the stakes are higher than he ever dreamed—because Robyn Trainor is not what she seems. She is a player in a greater game. One that ends with an explosive showdown in Washington DC’s highest corridors of power.
Open Season—the second in the stunning Breed action thriller series. Perfect for fans of Lee Child, Jason Kasper, and Jack Carr.
Cameron Curtis has spent thirty years on trade floors as a trader and risk manager. He was on the trade floor when Saddam’s tanks rolled into Kuwait, when the air wars opened over Baghdad and Belgrade, and when the financial crisis swallowed the world. Having written fiction as a child, he is the author of the Breed action thriller series.
Breed, a Delta Force veteran, is called on a mission to rescue an American soldier held captive in the mountains of Afghanistan. Breed soon realise that this is not a simple mission and that there is a greater game played above his paygrade.
This is the first book I've read in the Breed series and it was superb, a top class military thriller which I found impossible to put down, A lot of details and interesting characters. I'm definitely hooked and will be following this author, I highly recommend this book.
Thanks to Inkubator Books, the author and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book and share my honest review.
If you like action and military fiction this one is for you. Wow, what a ride. Open Season is the second book about Breed ex Delta force soldier by Cameron Curtis. I really liked the first one and was gladly surprised that this one is even better. I sincerely hope that we get to follow Breed for many books to come. This time he is recruited as an expert on Afghanistan mountains on a mission to free two captured American soldiers from the talibans or the mujahedin, or both? But something is not right, there is a deal going on and are someone trying to sabotage the deal? Well you have to read the book yourself to find out. I must thank @netgalley @inkubatorbooks for giving me this great advance copy and #CameronCurtis for writing this high speed thriller. Oh, and I just learned that there is three more books in the making. Great news.
There's a new Breed in town and it's stilling up trouble like a Quisinart on steroids
Top notch military action thriller. Takes you up close and personal with the Hindu Kush mountains. A last minute team of Delta fighters is sent to rescue a female Army sgt captured by the Taliban. They run into "bad luck" at every turn and then are captured by the mujahideen. Out of the frying pan and into the fire - or is there skullduggery at work?
I received Bookset Arc through "Booksprout" and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This is the 2nd book in the boxset as well as the series. The story begins with Breed on assignment in the Philippines as a contractor when he gets a call for a meeting requesting him for a specific assignment. The party was willing to pay for his current contract if he would take this mission on. The mission involved the rescue of two individuals that were captured by the Taliban. It was only expected to be a couple of days.
The mission begins and he is successful with the rescue, however things go from good to bad. The team now winds up racing away from the Taliban to their expected extraction location. They are unsuccessful and now have to try and reach another location for pickup.
Read along and follow Breed and the team as they try to deliver Robyn to the Air Base since she has important information. The action is intense and the ending is unexpected. This is definitely a good read, don't miss out!
Another great read finding Breed drafted in as a private contractor to rescue two military envoys kidnapped by the Mujahedeen in Afghanistan. Stein offers breed a deal he cannot refuse but all is not as it's seems. Is it just coincidence that that Breed and his team keep running into trouble. He is not sure who he can trust and relations in the team become strained. Even when he manages to extract one of the hostages to USA someone is looking to undermine and kill Breed and Robyn. The first half of the book I found went into too much detail about the weapons and strategy too many times although the background into the Afghanistan troubles is fasinating. I ended up skimming several chapters but once the plot gets going you are drawn into the story line. Worth the read.

Excellent, thoroughly enjoyed the read, the flash backs were a bit annoying but otherwise a great read. Loved the many references to Kipling - one of my heroes. Very unusual to read such details as the mountains of Afghanistan. The British did indeed try to invade Afghanistan three times each time being booted out. My Father served in the British Army (19th Hussars) in what is now Pakistan and down into Afghanistan from 1919 until 1925. He was sent there after serving two years in WW1. He always said it was an awful place, his Regiment lost a lot of men on those plains and mountains.
Total Precision! What a way to go back in to active non-military duty! The life of easy going sitting back and drinking pineapple juice is taken away when his contract gets paid off and he gets pulled in to what should be a quick and done thing. Well, nothing ever really goes according to plan, that is why they hire Breed as a 'consultant'... Breed, a consultant?.. Going from kind of busy to running and dodging all kinds of hailing things! Breed does exatly what he was trained for and life has taught him afterwards! Thank you, Cameron Curtis, for a great story! I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest review.
Action/Military Civilian ex soldier is hired to lead a team into Afghanistan to rescue two military people on a mission to arrange peace with a Taliban leader and the leader of an anti Taliban force. the two soldiers, a man and a woman have been kidnapped by one side and then rescued by the other and now the team has to recover them and get them home with information on the results of their mission, but they have to deal with running fights and internal plotting by US political scheming. Lots of action and betrayal in the mountains of Afghanistan.
This book is an affront to anyone who has ever served their country honorably. The female sergeant who's supposed to be the hero in the book would, in reality be prosecuted for treason. The author tries to make her a likeable person, but he doesn't seem to realize that no person who has ever served their country will forgive her for falling in love with and marrying the man who had her entire team killed in order to hold her for ransom. Stockholm syndrome x 10. Sickening!!!
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
This time it is the Taliban who are on the receiving end and what a great tale of tense pursuit and intrigue in Afghanistan as a rescue mission goes badly wrong and Creed and his team have to head high into the mountains to avoid capture and death at the hands of a local warlord.
Another great story and I can't wait for the next instalment.
A good book, slightly lessoned by a predictable ending
Read book 1&2 back to back, book 1 was. 4*, this a 3. This story is basically a military chase, with politics and greed thrown in Breed proves to be a thinking killer again, one that seems to be suckered at every turn, only to have been one step ahead of everyone, either by luck or judgement Looking forward to what I expect to be book 3 sometime soon
Open Season, written by Cameron Curtis, is the second book in A Breed Thriller series. This book is an excellent next mission for Breed, the main male character in this series. The story brings back several characters from the first novel in this series, and from the first to the last page this fast paced plot delivers with adventure, mystery, intrigue, betrayal, murder, friendships, and love. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
An extraordinary read in every aspect. Its technically the number two book in the series but it could have been the introductory with a few changes. A superb job of storytelling and a never-ending trail of events that will keep you as engrossed as I was. This was an epic tale of life, love, war, history and mystery. I've said enough for you to get this novel and thank me later.
Just as good as the author's first book, Danger Close. It continues to develop Breed as the main character. Tons of detail on weaponry and tactics, but nothing sluggish about the story. It moves and it'll keep you turning pages well into the night.
---David Liscio, author of the action/adventure thrillers Deadly Fare, Blood Sons, and Pacific Poison.
The author paints a picture of a warrior who believes in duty and freedom and he will defend his country the only way he knows how,to kill as many of the bad guys as he can to protect his country from those who would attack it. The main character Breed is someone who inspires people to try and go beyond what they are capable of.
Action packed from the very start. A great read with lots of twists and turns. This was the second book I have read in this series and I was not disappointed. A big thank you to Cameron Curtis for bringing the characters to life and I am really looking forward to the next book in the series, ‘Target Deck’. Another well deserved 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A great book series three in total. You are immediately thrown into the world of spies, special operators and the harsh world of the mountain men mujahideen. Twists turns fire fights a fight for survival as a small unit are hunted on the mountain ranges of Afghanistan. I couldn't put this book down put Breed on you reading list!!
Read in one day and looking forward to the next one. Breed is one tough operator and he and Stein make a great team. One thing I like is the technical info about what snipers need to know before each shot. I think you will probably enjoy this better than the first, much more twist and turns.
Breed earns his strikes once more. An enduring adventure through the beautifully described mountains of an unconquerable land. Many have tries and all have failed. As much as it glorifies the life of warlords and drug smugglers it is a captivating story. Great read.
The adventure is good, but the explanations of politics, religion, opium, money and getting involved in a stupid war is even better. It took an American president willing to get roasted that finally got us out. I expect this will not be our last stupid war, because so many people and companies get rich from war , and generals always predict victory.
Thank you Cameron Curtis for an absolute awesome read. Once again after the first few chapters the pace of the story is so riveting that I cannot stop at the end of the chapter. Leaves you hanging and needing to know what happens next. Can't wait to start reading book 2 of the series.
It's like Breed returning to the US Army...and running a mission in Afghanistan!!! I cannot stop reading first part of this book, I felt as I was trailing the mountains with them. I guessed who the villains were going to be (the main one) and even what was their motivation but it doesn't matter, I was trapped within the situation.
This is the first book Ive read from this writer, I found it a very good read, plausible story line, and interesting characters, just ordered the next book. NJ Bell
Afghanistan is in constant turmoil over the opium trade. Two American service officials are kidnapped. Breed is sent to rescue them. The story leads you on a high adventure, filled with danger, and not knowing the real enemies.
I thoroughly enjoyed this second novel in this series. More action, more character development and a great story! I love the level of detail of the missions and the various engagements.
Didn't see those twists coming in the story line, turning a credible combat book into a great story as well. Again, this is the sort of author one would want to discover we he or she has written ten in the series. Thank you for a great read.
You find breed early on to be what you like in people and how you hope we all could be. Well written, detailed and plot twists, all keep you guessing and ready to read on, just another chapter. A good story, nicely written
Very good read...the action packed storyline but predictable after a point....the villains per say needed more character build up. Overall excellent but could have been better
I love this series. With my dad a retired army colonel these books just take me back in time. I really love the characters and how much depth they have. Great writing!
