A beautiful book by the late Trevor Leggett. You'll find a lot of the material is already on his adhyatma website at: https://tlayt.org/category/judo/ but the book is nice to have if you can find it (it's out of print the last I checked but copies pop up on eBay from time to time). What makes this book and the insight so unique is having a westerner engaged in Judo during its earlier years, reaching a respectable level, coaching at a high level, immersed in Japanese and wider eastern spiritualism, and then observing this all from his writings directly. Judo is a hard sport - it's not easy on the body, yet there's an underlying spiritual world to it that the author does a fantastic job of revealing. It's positioned for the Judo community and rightly so; practice Judo for at least a year and you'll begin to understand the concepts and ideas presented. Highly recommended.
A little known book but full of brilliant anecdotes from one of the West's pre-eminent trailblazers of the Asian arts. There is philosophical and Buddhist wisdom in here that would serve anyone in their every day lives, as well as some great short stories. Can't recommend it highly enough, not just to judo lovers but to anyone who likes good stories.
