Jonah was a beautiful thing born from her worst nightmares. Christmas was everything he didn't want in a girl. She was a lame. He was a God. She loved books. He slept with everything that walked by. It's true what they say about opposites attracting. The stars collided when they met and started a wildfire that burned out of control. Will these tortured, young lovers survive the flames? Can love truly conquer all? Or will their differences be too much for them to overcome?

Take a walk on the wild side with Mary Jane to find out.

Mary Jane Manson novels are for MATURE adults 18 and older. They contain graphic language and content that isn't suitable for those with triggers. While the storyline is centered around a love story, this isn't a tradromance novel. This is a work of dark fiction.

Although it was an absolute train wreck, I could not look away.

This book…. My God, this book... it was so bad that it was still deliciously good, it was mind-boggling.

This book has all triggers, warnings, and everything that's needed to be dangerous.

This book left my mind reeling, my heart racing, and my brain struggling to function clearly because I have to self-examine myself after reading it.

Even though the writing could be considered mediocre at best, I am still blown away by the new novel. Is that even possible? How is that even possible? Even after finishing one of the most tragic, toxic, and f—d up stories I've ever read, I'm still jonesing like a fiend.

How?

I cannot even begin to describe how ridiculous this book was. Yet, in spite of that, I loved every second of it. There were times when it was creepy, gruesome, and yes, unbelievable as well. However, it is important to mention that the intricate plot and interesting characters kept me fascinated throughout the whole book.

Misfits is an unusual tale, the main character Jonah is mental basket case and very young. His crazy behavior and sex obsessions drove him to extremes. It seems as if he screwed the whole town. The story is told from his vantage point of a view and I can tell you that he has lost all the screws in his head.

There is no doubt about it, Jonah... is a basket case.
A male apex predator- he definitely was one of those.
His possessive nature is what makes him the way he is.
He is an Addict, sexual fiend.
Boastful and full of himself, he can't refrain from becoming who he is.
Then again, he was a murderer, too—but somehow he hooked you with his twisted stories—his obsession with Christmas was toxic—the toxicity the two shared would have brought a building down.

But, Christmas story will break your heart, hard. At one moment, I wished to strangle her, at another, I wanted to wrap my arms around her and comfort her.

Again, who is this woman writing such a superb review?

The book has me on a high, a glorious high, maybe I've been abducted by some sort of forbidden power, but I don't think that's the case.

My adrenaline has been pumping throughout the entire time reading this book because the action sequences are absolutely crazy... in the more literal sense of the word.

Wow, What in the world just happened? That's a bit of a shock.

Its writing style isn't even my cup of tea, yet I was unable to look away. This type of young adult romance book always attracts me thoroughly.

My expectations for this book were so low as I started reading it. In fact, I thought I would dislike it, since it's not something I would look twice at. However, I read it through tears, crumpled into a ball, with my face buried in my hands. And I enjoyed it immensely!

The book angered me, made me uncomfortable, made me scream, and still managed to make me sob. In the end, it was amazing how much the characters were willing to sacrifice and give up to save their world.

After a few days to gather my thoughts about the book, I have decided it is my new favorite. I thought it was just brilliant. I was blown away by this book, the plot, the characters, and the storyline, even though it was unbelievable and cringy.

The fact that I really love this book baffles me!

It's definitely worth checking out.

This should've been a 1star review due to the cheating, that was outragerous in the book. But the MMC was such a funny piece of s***, that I have to give it 3stars. Seriously, the H was a pig, but a hilarious one!

What the hell

I made it to 4%. It’s bad. I can tell this will be just be a porn. Jonah only talks about his dick and how much he uses it. Unrealistic. Christmas offers to suck him off just because he gave her some money. Like no, just no. WTH. I’m glad I didn’t waste my time reading this book when I could be reading a better romance

Disturbed, and somewhat offended!

This book was not for me. Christmas was stupid staying with a guy that constantly cheated. Why did Christmas have a ugly pregnancy? Why did her baby have to come out black, and the daddy is definitely vampirish white? For her to be so smart she was dumb, and the rest of the females were dumb as well chasing after a guy that knowingly has intercourse with other women. This book was all the way wrong for me. All the cheating that he did throughout this entire book and he gets mad when Christmas cheats one time like you have got to be kidding me that this author made Jonah to be so awful and still end up with a happy ending for them. Oh and that’s not the worst part, Christmas physically watched her husband having intercourse with another woman, all she did was cry and still stayed dumb?

This interracial romance book offended me. Why would this book be written about a I assume biracial black girl getting dogged and disrespected, and all she does is cry and somewhat fights back. Like seriously!! I read the reviews and gave it a try, and I did try, but it is mind boggling to come across characters this way. Even the ending of this book convinces me that he will still cheat, and she will continue to be dumb.

Omg! This book!

This was a great read. I was captivated! I could not put it down. It has many triggers some I love and some that made me want to cry but because the book was so good I kept on reading. Lots of surprising twists and turns. I’ve never read anything like this! Jonah and Christmas were definitely made for each other because they’re too toxic to be with anyone else! I loved this book. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Exhausting

This was just so exhausting to read. The back and forth drama. Dude is a POS and using the paranormal to justify his behavior is laughable.. A narcissist to the T. She was the perfect "victim". Some one who seeks toxic relationships because that's all she knows. Something about abuse of a child and calling it love doesn't sit right with my spirit. I read it to the end hoping the heroine would find her strength. This is a whole trainwreck; and trust at the end I was livid. This doesn't promote self love or love at ALL. I hate that through all of her life she can't even have a break to learn to love herself; and to be secure in her own strength. This almost feels like a satire because it is a caustic tale of predators preying on their perceived perception of the weak. Wow... disgusted, way to teach black women and women in general how to lay down and "take it". Damn...

Ugh…

I’ve never felt this overwhelming sense of what the fuck did. I just read, then reading this book.

It makes you hate every character, and I mean every character, there is no good redeeming qualities in any of these characters.

Then the plot is even crazier and so weird. I’ve never felt this overwhelming sense of I hate everything.

But it’s so crazy that you just keep watching it because you’re just trying to figure out where this is going to end and how could this get even worse.

This was completely crazy, and I don’t think I can even say hey, I read it didn’t like it, but still give it a three because I finished it and it kept me engaged.

Am I glad I read it kind of because reading the reviews made me more curious about what they were talking about to the point where I just had to read.

And now I get it!

Wtf did I just read? It was so bad but I just couldn't dnf.

The entire story was told from an 18yr old male's pov. It read like a teenage boy's diary with zero romance. The premise was plausible until the totally random extreme twist about halfway. The plot kept on going in circles and was pretty predictable except for that one random extreme twist. Yet it had me invested in some perverse way.

As the story kept going in circles. I just wanted to smash the the two MCs heads together for their insanity and wanting to break the cycle.

Jonah was in over his head fighting with his heart and little Jonah. He truly was an immature man who couldn't control his nature.

The end was abrupt and it's not clear that their insanity will end but it's also what makes these two tick.

Wild Ride!

This is my first book by this author the storyline was good. I liked the main two characters ,the girl went through to much. My only critique is it ended to abruptly it didn't feel finished in my opinion. The guy was a straight up whore,it also has a twist.

This book is all types of f@$&3d up. The toxic level in Christmas and Jonah’s life was out of this world. They were truly misfits. This book was truly interesting. I would have like a little more to the ending nevertheless id rate it 4.5

2.5 stars.

This was an exciting read and full of drama. I couldn't put it down.

However, there wasn't a real ending or completion to all the storylines. What happened to Bea....for example. Did the MMC definitively stop being a sl*t and never cheat on the FMC again?

No

Jonesy Daniels is the man and he doesn’t care who knows it. Christmas Daye is different from the other girls, and he treats her as such, but it doesn’t mean that he won’t break her heart the same. Will their love be worth Jonesy’s drama?

Spoiler alert: it’s not. Especially since they’re in high school.

This book was posted in one of my Facebook groups, and I was put off the moment I read Dark High School Romance. I should have stayed put off, but I plan to give Amarie Avant’s DHSR book a chance in the summer, and some of the members of my group thought this one was good.

When I tell you that this was drama for the sake of drama. Jonesy is LITERALLY the worst thing that ever happens to Christmas. The money and stability literally do not make up for the mess. Jonesy CANNOT keep it in his pants. The fact that he’s eighteen and she's sixteen does not help the situation.

I’m going to stop myself here because I know I’ll just continue to complain. The twist is just an easy excuse for his bad behavior, and nothing I’ve said previously stopped me from finishing this book. That being said, I do not recommend unless you really like teen vampire stories and gratuitous high school sex.

Where do I even begin …

This book is a troupe train wreck, and that’s putting it nicely.

You’ve interracial relationships with the poor black woman and rich white man. You gave the taboo idea of an underage man being taken advantage of by women older than him constantly. You get the sexually abused underage female counterpart living in a trailer park. Kids with parental issues and doing drugs as well. Oh did I mention there’s abortions and teenage pregnancy? (More troupes added that I have not mentioned)

Like I said l this is a troupe train wreck and I literally had to skip to the end. I couldn’t keep reading this mess.

I understand what this author was going for, a gritty, deep and impactful look into the life of fucked up teens.
But instead it came across as too much, messy and overwhelming. It wasn’t an enjoyable read.

Excellent surprise

Where did this book and incredible author come from?! I found this gem by a recommendation from a Facebook group and decided to give it a chance by reading the sample, but before the sample was even half way through I bought this book and was engrossed until I finished reading it completely.
I don't give spoilers in my reviews because I hate that when it happens to me when I read reviews because I want to experience all the new emotions and situations as they come and I don't want to know ahead of time . I want others to experience the same situations as they happen and come. This book showed the happenings of teens still in high school who are dealing with hormones, lust, bad attitudes decisions and cliques that all happen at that time in everyone life but added with a twist that I was not expecting . Jonah a handsome wealthy senior and Christmas a young black girl are total opposite but also like two magnets that are destined to be together. The way this author gave them a beautifully realistic tragedy and growth was enough to make me cry and cheer. I hope this author will continue to write in this genre it was enough to keep me engrossed so much I couldn't put it down. I love this book I know I will keep this up there with my favorite authors and reread over and over again, this book was so good I thought one of my favourite authors janjan untamed released this under a alias Penn name it was so good but if not this new author should take that as a huge compliment

I love it for the same reason most people hated it. Jonah was sex-crazed and unemotional. When he met Christmas he was drawn to her but it didn't stop who he was. Just like someone choosing Christmas didn't immediately stop her behavior. They were teenagers. Christmas was a victim of sexual abuse, and heavily racially discriminated against. Jonas was a young, rich, extremely popular, vampire.

Christmas lived a cycle of abuse. She offered blow jobs to get men to like her, out of gratefulness, out of affection, and to avoid intercourse. She was dirt poor, a genius, and the new kid in a wealthy private school where Jonah ruled.

People wanted to stand in Jonah's light so bad, he publicly had 2 girlfriends, and the schools clique system revolved around him. He wanted Christmas but was too immature to handle it. He was a big horn dog. Never cheated before because he never tried to be faithful before.

Christmas and Jonah are a disaster, but they are a miracle too. I love the fact that even though they were nowhere near perfect, Jonah's parents were supportive of Christmas and Jonah. They worked hard to allow them to grow but push them in the right direction.

This book also has some inconsistencies. HOWEVER, Its so rare to find truly dark romance, I'm here for it. I love Mary Jane Manson and her alter Jan Jan Untamed.

Loved it from the first page

I knew from possibly three pages in, that I was going to love this book.

Jonah just gave me total God complex vibes and I love to see this journey of those types of characters. I loved Christmas as a character as well. She held her own in a book full of crazies and in some parts, I felt she was a bit crazy as well. In fact, if this was a real town, normal people should avoid because everyone is moving mad here!! 😂😂😂

This is a pretty dark and extremely hot book, which I live for. The sex scenes are well written and graphic which is always a plus for me.

I do love Jonahs poor parents, trying to life your life and you son is just stressing you. The minor characters are all quite entertaining. I do love Bea, although she is not so much a minor character as much as just a demon. For some really sick and twisted reason, I understand her(it is what it is) Having to think something is your and finding out it never was can mess with you.

The book is not what you think it’s going to be and I can’t exactly place it in one particular genre. If I had to say, my genre is dark & surprising. If you love books about assholes and then trying to get their ultimate goals or fuckboys and their toys, then this is for you.

All in all, I give this a solid 4.5 starts for keeping me up all night reading. Love!!!!!

So much potential

I wanted to love this book. It had so much potential to be great. The ups and downs of this couple....The constant mood swings, irrational and inconsistent behaviors... How can the author say this man loves this girl so much but then continue with his constant horrible actions and then the ending the story out it the blue, like she just got tired or bored in the middle of a chapter and ended it there. The way she left it it makes no sense. Its like she didn't know what she wanted for these characters. SMH. I really can't say what I want to say without any spoilers but again this book had potential to be great it was an interesting story so much potential I stayed up all night to read this hoping she would redeem herself towards the end I would have given it a four but because of the lack of basically ending I gave it a three even then I look forward to what this author has to write this book could have been great. SMH I wonder if she's setting it up for a sequel. Despite all All I've written, I generally liked this book as the story and the characters had me all up in my feelings. I didn't see surprising twists coming. I really do hope the author makes this up to me with a sequel, writing and developing this story to its proper end.

This is not what you expect it to be. I went in thinking it was going to be a sweet love story or light bullying because I went in blind. It was sooo much better ! Jonah is a white, rich kid from a small town and Christmas is black and poor. Jonah sees the new girl riding her bike without a bike seat, and his entire world shifts.

They hurt each other, they cheat, and their lives change in many ways during their relationship. They break up 1/2 a dozen times as well. What do you do when you’re obsessed with each other. Do you overlook the other girlfriends that he has ? Do you overlook his obsession with getting high and cheating ?

Do you overlook when he gets another girl pregnant? Jonah is a ghoul, he is self righteous, and jealous. He can’t stand for Christmas to be with anyone else. And he will kill to protect her. This is not your average happy ever after. They fight like cats and dogs and you will want to yell at both of them.

If you’re ok with cheating, gore, and killing, please read on. It’s almost funny if it wasn’t so tragic. Their love story is messy as life often is, and I enjoyed their story.

Worth the look

The title so fits the story and the characters and the things they get up to in this story.I forgot about how all the turmoil and emotions can follow, when dealing with young adults and not a strong adult influence. We get two characters that become instantly attracted to one another, but neither is equipped to handle the issues they have concerning themselves. There are times when what they will be as adults peaks out and you cheer. There are of course moments when you scream and want to stop reading. The writer gives a good account but looses the way some where. Also the mystery about exactly who the are would.have been so.good if it was given time to shine in the story.I think there were missed moments, that should.have been played up to its potential but instead gets lost in what was easier. The story wraps up.on a good note ,it was just a little too sweet of a ending.Overall not a bad young adult romance, just think there are some missed moments that could have made it so much better.

Takes a Dive After the Mid Point

*****Spoilers*****

Christmas and especially Jonah are a hot mess. She's a 16 year old girl from the trailer park, new to the neighborhood and far from impressionable while he's an 18 year old stud rich kid who apparently has the sex appeal and appetite of several men. They're both in high school and meet when's she's riding her bike in the rain on the way to school when Jonah picks Christmas up and gives her a ride. I think I reminded myself at least a dozen times that they're teens because the serial cheating by Jonah followed by the anger and eventual forgiveness by Christmas and reconciliation was at best annoying. Oh, and at some point it's revealed that Jonah is a vampire. Yeah. Not much in the way of liking very much about the book for me but like many a train wreck, found I couldn't look away for about the first half of the book but after that, I mostly found the book to be distasteful. Too, it's told majority from Jonah's perspective and the choices he makes are just ugh.

What a wild ride!

I picked up this book because an author I enjoy recommended it. I'm sort of trying to figure out why. The book is not very well written and I think it could have used some editing. It was, as others have said, a trainwreck of a book. However, the plot was pretty decent, if strangely executed.

I will say that this author writes men the way that men usually write women. I know that the things Jonah says are supposed to come off as cocky, but some of it is just ridiculous and unbelievable. Everything was all "I'm a manly man because that's how my dad raised me" but at the same time, "I'm a cheater and murderer". So weird.

And let's not even start with Christmas. Or maybe let's. The whole book, she was telling him to do things and then when he did it, she would get mad and beat on him and make him feel bad. So then he'd cheat and the cycle continued. So toxic and unreal.

Read This Book!

Wow... just wow.

Normally, I list spoilers and explain the plot and characters in more detail, but I won't ruin the experience for anyone.

Read this book... BUT... only do it, with an open mind.

It's dark, and so full of taboo social issues, I wouldn't be surprised if the pages didn't run over and write their own review.

Again.. it is NOT an easy read.

You will probably not ever like the LMC, Jonah; or, stop pitying the FMC, Christmas. As a matter of fact, you'll probably want to engage in an age old battle of fisticuffs, better know as boxing with him.

But, the each character had their own personality (even if they were detestable), the dialogue flowed and it was easy to imagine the inner struggles, as well as the actual conversations.

I only wish there had been reference from Christmas' point of view, as the entire book is per Jonah's.

Regardless, I definitely recommend for those able to deal with multiple triggers and heavy abuse.

Confused…

Ok.. it starts out as a popular rich boy meets nerdy poor black girl. They like each other and start dating. I understood that part.
Then for giggles, let’s make him a weak non powered vampire?.. I was lost and stayed lost.

If you remove the fact that Jonah was a vampire, the rest of the story line wasn’t bad. Jonah was a jerk in the beginning of the book. He couldn’t control himself around girls, then he meets Christmas. What a name! Christmas is nothing that Jonah typically goes for.

I finished it and believe that with some polishing this would be a decent dark high school romance.

Triggers - This story covers everything from A to Z. Child abuse, sexual abuse, physical abuse, bullying, racism, cheating, abortion, sexual assault and the list goes on. If those are triggers for you, I wouldn’t suggest you reading this book.

There’s a lot going on in this book. There’s so much you sort of can’t help getting caught up in the drama. I think the fact the book is told entirely from the H’s perspective makes the book more entertaining. I would not want to read the h’s thoughts while she constantly has to watch her philandering boyfriend/husband cheat on her left and right, or read about what’s she’s thinking as she constantly takes his cheating butt back again and again.

There’s a big twist that comes at the halfway point that isn’t really that big of a twist. It’s supposed to explain why Jonah, the H, can’t keep it in his pants. It didn’t really work imo, and it added a lot of side intrigue that frankly made no sense. That’s pretty much my whole assessment of this book. Lots of things didn’t make sense, but it was somewhat of an entertaining read.
