Rate this book
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Julie Ann Walker delivers perfect pulse-pounding romantic suspense! The former Navy SEALs of Deep Six Salvage thought they could retire to the sea and hunt for treasures of the deep, but when trouble comes to visit, there'll be hell to pay.

Ray “Wolf” Roanhorse took one look at Chrissy and knew she was the woman of his dreams. There’s a hitch, however. He screwed things up with her. Big time. Now all she wants is to be friends. He’ll have to be his most charismatic and charming self if he has any hope of changing her mind. And winning her heart.

Christina Szarek knows all about sexy, brooding men like Wolf. She grew up watching her mother fall for – and be broken by – plenty of them. If she had her way, she’d avoid Wolf altogether. But they’re partners in the hunt for the Santa Cristina’s legendary treasure. Avoidance is impossible. And the longer she’s near him, the more he chips away at the walls she’s erected against him.

The danger to Chrissy doesn’t only come from her burgeoning feelings, however. There are mysterious players who would see her silenced – for good. And Wolf, with his wicked grin and spec-ops training, is all that stands between her and a date with death in the deep.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Deeper Than The Ocean is the fourth book in the Deep Six series. This is my first time reading the series, but I had no difficulty following. The author provided sufficient back story, which made it easy to get into this installment without feeling at a lost. However, after reading this installment, one has the urge to go back and pick up the other books in the series.

I had a good time with this book. The romance, the suspense, the humour and the banter between the characters kept me entertained throughout the story. In this installment we get Chrissy and Wolf’s story.

Wolf, a former navy seal, and the members of his salvaging team (also former navy seals) found the Santa Christina, however there was one problem. They did not find the treasure. To distract himself from the disappointment of not finding the treasure, Wolf made it his mission to convince Chrissy that they were meant for each other. He would have a hard time convincing her, as Chrissy had a stubborn streak a mile long. It didn’t help that she believed falling in love was a fallacy. To make matters worse, she kept judging him based on an incident which occurred between them in the past. However, when Chrissy accidentally stumbled on a crime making her a target of cold-blooded criminals, Wolf ceased the opportunity to protect her and in the process prove to her that falling in love is real.

I enjoyed the romance, which developed between the main characters. Although, several times Chrissy frustrated me with her refusal to acknowledge her feelings. The many excuses she hid behind to avoid coming to terms with her feelings highlighted her stubborn. Luckily, Wolf was not the type to give up easily.

The glimpse I got into the relationship between the couple appearing in the next installment, has me excited for its release.

I enjoyed the suspense thread, although some some  aspects had me shaking my head. I could not understand how they failed to see that these incidents were attacks against Chrissy and not mere coincidences. The revelation of the true identity of head honcho came as no surprise, as I suspected their involvement from the moment of their introduction.

Conclusion/Recommendation

Overall, Deeper Than the Ocean was a solid read and one I  would recommend to fans of the genre. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

I love this series about a group of treasure hunting former SEALs. The guys are sexy and the gals are beautiful and smart. Together they are dynamite action reading. What should be a quest for the treasure of the Santa Cristina somehow ends up being a test for the SEALs who thought they had left behind all things that go boom. Deep Six Salvage has found the wreck of the Santa Cristina right in their backyard, or rather, lagoon. But, no treasure. Some artifacts, sure, but not the mother load.

Ray “Wolf” Roanhorse has taken a liking to local Key West dive operator Christina Szarek and wants nothing more than to get to know her better. He thinks she may be the one he is willing to give up his freewheeling lifestyle for, but, he made a strategic error and it may have just cost him the mission.

Chrissy is drawn to Wolf and is resisting for all she is worth. She watched her beautiful mother fall in love time and again only to be left heartbroken. Chrissy is not about to let that happen to her and Wolf has heartbreak written all over him.

When Chrissy runs across two men in a dark, abandoned warehouse and they start shooting at her, she knows she has stumbled into some serious stuff. Wolf will do everything in his power to keep Chrissy safe and, hopefully, win her heart too.

Deeper Than The Ocean is part of a longer series but can be read as a standalone. It was my very first Julie Ann Walker book but will not be my last.
The story was loaded with action and edge of the seat suspense. It also didn’t lack for humor, plenty of banter and the chemistry between our main characters.

“When all is said and done, we only regret the chances we didn’t take, the love we were afraid to feel, and the ones we let slip away.”

With wonderful writing, an engaging storyline I think I highlighted half of the book with quotes I wanted to reread and/or share. I can’t wait to read more from this series and this author.

When Chrissy accidentally stumbles upon a crime, she becomes the target of ruthless criminals. Wounded and fleeing for her life, she runs to the one man she knows will protect her. When Wolf sees Chrissy waterlogged and dripping blood his protective instincts kick in, and he is determined to keep Chrissy safe at all cost. However, her pursuers will stop at nothing to silence her. Can Wolf figure out who is targeting Chrissy? Will he convince her that they are meant to be?

Wolf and Chrissy have such great chemistry, and though she fights her feelings, Wolf proves hard to resist. A hunky, charismatic, alpha, Wolf is everything Chrissy wants in a partner if only That Night hadn’t happened. Wolf wishes he could erase the past and show Chrissy how much he cares for her, but Chrissy is stubborn. She’s also strong, independent, and has a sharp tongue, which is a few of the many reasons Wolf loves her. Her hesitancy to fall in love, in addition to the people trying to kill her, complicates things.

Both characters want love and happiness and to marry and have children, but Wolf must atone for the past and prove that he’s the man for her. Chrissy, in turn, must deal with wounds from the past, as well as her fear of abandonment, before she can fully embrace a future with Wolf. This makes for a lot of sexual tension and a steamy, swoon-tastic romance! The beginning of another swoon-worthy romance is also introduced in this book, and I’m curious to see how that pair reconciles their feelings.

I also love Wolf’s ex-Nave SEALS friends. They have been through so much together and are more family than friends. These men support each other unconditionally, and their banter is hysterical! Because these military men know each other inside and out, whether they are having fun, offering advice, or fighting side-by-side, their interactions together show how strong their connection is.

On top of the romance and the danger that Chrissy faces because she witnessed illegal activity, Wolf and his friends are searching for a lost treasure. They work tirelessly diving and searching different parts of the island for this bounty. I found the group’s search for treasure intriguing and, as it is an overarching part of the series’ plot, I am curious to see how that part of the story plays out in future books.

Though this is the fourth book in the series, it can totally be read as a standalone. Of course, I enjoyed the characters and story and want to go back and read the first three books! I think readers who enjoy contemporary romance with a great love story and a lot of suspense will enjoy Deeper Than the Ocean. Thanks so much to Julie Ann Walker for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

It was good, but not as good as the previous ones. Wolf and Chrissy had lots of chemistry, but there was a huge mix-up that took forever to straighten out. Plus the two of them kept getting shot at and/or shot. Then there was way too much of the next couples' romance going on during this book.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the fourth book in the series, and I absolutely recommend that you read them in order. This band of retired SEALs are on a huge adventure, and you really need to be following that plot line as well as enjoying the romances that fall out of their venture. Being around these guys really isn't the safest place to be, but they do care for their own and use their considerable talents to defend.

Things are hotting up on the island, the sunken ship has been found, now they just need to discover treasure ... I do love the jeopardy which comes with this series, and the guys really are desperate to rebuild their finances and need to find the gold.

We focus on Wolf and Chrissy in this book, and their journey to this point has been difficult, but little did they realise the danger still to come. Chrissy and her friend Winston step unknowingly into a situation which gets them shot ... and off we go on another complicated, and this time sad situation, as it is uncovered who was behind the attacks. It does however finally give Wolf a chance to prove his genuine love and devotion to Chrissy, and she may even just believe him. For a man who has sisters, he really did make a huge error of judgement, and has a lot to make up for - it is fun watching him try.

I am already looking forward to the next installment - surely they will succeed soon? and Mia is finally coming out of her shell, so fireworks can be expected from that possible match too!

The first story I read in months and of course we have to have cheating in it!

Ugh! This could have easily been a 4 star read if not for the unnecessary and overused theme of authors making Heroes into sluts. I really would like to know what is so attractive about that! Anyone???

What I liked:
- The wittiness/comebacks & humor. The chemistry/hotness between main couple.
- The way author portrayed Hero of loving & pursuing heroine if not for that one thing (see below) that he did off page that I couldn’t get over & made me skim it.

What I disliked:
- The 3rd party POVs of other character’s relationship woes and “voice” of the “evil ones” plotting’s.
- The Mystery/Suspense. Total fail.
- THE CHEATING!!!

SPOILER ALERT!!!!

So Hero is portrayed as a “Nice Guy” – not a player. At least not that it is ever confirmed BUT right from the start, we learn that he screwed up royally when he cheated on heroine. Now, some may debate this but this is MY review and therefore MY opinion and I don’t need any fan girls coming here and sprouting garbage. So you have been warned….

Hero & heroine have known each other for a while and been very attracted to each other. They finally decide to go on their 1st date but this happens:

“I’ve never…been jealous a day in my life,” he began slowly, trying to put his complete and utter misjudgment and subsequent assholery into some context. “But I was absolutely green with it when I walked into the bar and saw you out with another man.”

A line formed between her eyebrows. “You—you were jealous?”

“Eaten up with it. Which is why I started flirtin’ with the first woman who came up to me. And, yes, before you say anything, I know how immature that sounds. I admit it. But I couldn’t stop myself. I wasn’t thinking. I was simply actin’ on…well… I guess it was hurt pride. Enter the redhead.”

“Anna.”

“Right.”

She opened her mouth, closed it, then opened it again. “Why were you so jealous?”

“You’re kiddin’, right?”

She shook her head, and he blew out a breath. “Look, darlin’, it isn’t advertised on Navy recruitment posters, but the military isn’t above usin’ drugs to give their fighters the upper hand in combat. Various psychoactive pharmaceuticals are employed to suppress hunger, lengthen wakefulness, improve reflexes, etcetera. But nothin’ I ever took on a mission gave me the high I felt when I was around you. You made me feel alive like nothin’ else could. I was crazy about you, Chrissy. Still am. In fact, I—”

The words—the words—were perched on the tip of his tongue. But they refused to budge. It was like they were set in place with grappling hooks.

“In fact,” he said slowly so he could change directions, “I was so crazy when I saw that blond behemoth bend down and whisper in your ear, I did the first thing that came to mind. I told Anna to meet me in the storage closet.”

Chrissy blinked at him uncomprehendingly.

Scrubbing a hand over his face, he groaned. “I wish there was a way I could explain this so I don’t come off like a total dickwad, but I was bein’ a total dickwad. So I’m goin’ to shoot you straight and hope you find it in your heart not to hold one really, really bad decision against me.”

She nodded, but didn’t say anything.

He desperately wished she’d say something. Anything. A biting remark. An acerbic retort. Something to let him know what she was thinking. But for the first time in their acquaintance, she seemed perfectly happy letting him keep the conversational baton in hand.

“I wanted to run away, but I thought that’d be cowardly. So… I invited Anna to meet me in at the back of the bar. I reckoned I could kill two birds with one stone. I’d no longer have to watch you and your date canoodlin’ and I…” He winced. “I’d provide myself a little distraction.”

When Chrissy finally spoke, each word was a Tyson Fury haymaker straight to his solar plexus. “What a bunch of horseshit. You didn’t invite Anna to that storage closet because you thought that was better than simply leaving the bar. You invited her back there because you were jealous and you hoped to make me jealous too.”

He swallowed uncomfortably. “You’re right. You’re absolutely right.”

“And you claim to be a good guy? You claim to care about me?” Two red flags flew in her cheeks, and he hated that he’d upset her. Again.

“I got no excuse.” His throat was raw, which made his voice sound like ten miles of bad country road. “My only explanation is, like I said, I’d never felt that way before. I didn’t have the first clue how to handle it. But please know, darlin’, I know better now. It’ll never happen again. And I’m so sorry—”

“Spare me another apology.” She stood from the toilet, nearly knocking him on his ass in the process.

“Christina…” He scrambled to his feet, grabbing her wrist to stop her from leaving the bathroom. “Please, I—”

“Do you have any idea how much you humiliated me?” Her eyes blazed with blue flames. “I didn’t like seeing you with that woman, but I told myself, It’s okay, Chrissy. He hasn’t done anything wrong. Suck it up and act like a grownup. And so I followed you thinking I’d convince you to bring your date over so you could meet my cousin—”

He opened his mouth but snapped it shut again when she pointed a finger in his face and snarled, “And if you tell me it wasn’t a date one more time, so help me, I’m going to punch you in the dick.”

Twice in one mornin’ I’ve been threatened with that,he thought wretchedly. I’m winnin’ big today.
“And then when I stepped into the storage closet and you started kissing me, I actually thought, See? It is me he wants. And I was happy,Wolf. Happy. And then you called me Anna and I knew it was her you wanted.”

His mind drifted back in time…

The storage closet was as dark as pitch and smelled of spilled beer and wet wood. The sounds of the band playing a Jimmy Buffet cover were muted, which allowed him to hear the heavy thud of his own heart.

The organ wasn’t beating with anticipation for the redhead’s imminent arrival, however. Its rhythm was one of hurt. Of confusion.

How could he have been so wrong? How could he have misread all the signs?
Sure, he hadn’t even stolen a kiss from Chrissy, but there’d been so much banter. So much flirting. So much…chemistry.

They were supposed to have their first date the very next night. Although, they’d agreed they’d known each other long enough that it didn’t feel like a first date. More like a third or fourth date. Which made it that much more momentous. More special.

That’s why he’d had Romeo fly him to Key West a day early. He wanted to buy some decent clothes. Tank tops and swim trunks weren’t going to cut it for a night out with the incomparable Christina Szarek. He wanted to look good for her. He wanted to impress her. He wanted…her.
All of her. Her mind. Her body. Her smiles. Her sarcastic conversational volleys.
He wanted her like he’d never wanted another woman.
But apparently, she wanted some big blond dude with a jaw that would make Henry Cavill weep with envy.

He’d thought he and Chrissy were on the same page. The we’re-goin’-to-give-this-thing-between-us-a-fair-shot-and-see-where-it-takes-us page. But, hell, after what he saw out in the bar, he knew they weren’t even reading the same damned book and—

“Wolf?” A lilting female voice sounded from the hall a second before the door opened and a hand stole inside, fumbling for the switch on the wall.

He didn’t want any light. He liked the dark. Liked that he could pretend anything he wanted when he couldn’t see what was in front of his face.
And pretend he did.

He dragged the redhead into the closet with him and asked desperately, “Can I kiss you?”
“Yes.” Her answer was unhesitating.
Pinning her against the closed door and claiming her mouth, he pretended she was someone else altogether. He pretended they were Chrissy’s lips he laved and sucked. He pretended they were Chrissy’s moans he drank into the back of his throat. He pretended it was Chrissy’s curves that met his desperately searching fingers.

“Wolf!” His name was breathed into the darkness when he let the redhead up for air.
He almost said “Christina” in response. The name filled his mouth, sweet and gossamer like cotton candy at a county fair. But at the last second, he remembered it wasn’t Chrissy in the closet with him. It was the woman he’d been fiercely flirting with for the last thirty minutes.
What’s her name again?

Then, he remembered.

“Anna.”

“What?” That one word was so strident it nearly pierced his eardrums.

The overhead light blazed on, and he blinked against its sudden brightness. His jaw fell open when it wasn’t the redhead’s green eyes that filled his vision, but Chrissy’s blue ones.

“You are such an asshole!” she snarled before throwing open the door and running out of the closet.

“Christina!” he yelled, hesitating only a few seconds before following her. But she was fast, and a few seconds head start was all she needed. By the time he made it to the main area of the bar, he saw her dragging the blond out the back.

“Hey!” The redhead snagged his arm. “Sorry I kept you waiting. I got stopped by a friend and—”

“Excuse me for a second,” he interrupted and hightailed it toward the marina. By the time his flip-flops hit the boards of the dock, Chrissy and her companion were nowhere to be found.

Wolf shook his head now. “It was you I wanted, Chrissy. It’s always been you. It always will be you.”

So yeah, it IS cheating when a person has feelings for someone and is just beginning a relationship with them! What he did is not redeemable in my book. If heroine had not walked into that closet, he would have definitely had sex with the OW. He even states that he wanted a bit of “distraction” so apparently any woman would do.

So how is that forgivable, romantic or even entertaining to read about? I often wonder how authors can insert that crap. If it happened to them or anyone in RL, would they be so forgiving? Do they not value themselves or have any dignity to accept assholes like this one?

Maybe if more women valued themselves, plots like this would not be written. There has to be a medium compromise at some point in which authors write romances that doesn’t include cheating and asshole behavior. There just has to be. So to any author out there reading this, I challenge you to think out of the box and come up with a true “romance”. One that has the “feels” we look for to escape in and the decency & honesty of characters we can route for. Come on folks. We are better than that, aren’t we?

Ray and Chrissy have an obvious attraction, but one misunderstanding-yep, Ray’s fault-has set them back...like waaay back...into friend zone status.

I really liked both characters. Aside from their early relationship hiccup, their personalities, quips, and general banter flowed well. These two were decently blunt and definitely left me giggling with their brand of crazy! I thought the romance was actually on the sweet side—with the steam hitting later on—but have no fear. After all the sizzle, the expected combustion delivered in spades!

This book had me in stitches!! Zippy lines, quirky humorous moments, and a very likable cast of supporting characters kept me thoroughly entertained from beginning to end! I haven’t read any books in this series, but a quick recap at the beginning helped me get a pulse on who was who fairy quick.

I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Deep Six continue their search for the sunken treasure😁

Finally, the Deep Six saga continues and I was wholeheartedly ready for this book❣️Chrissy and Wolf’s chemistry in the previous book certainly stayed with me through all these what feels like never ending months to find out what exactly happened “that” fateful night but also to learn more about these intriguing characters and their quest to uncover the lost treasure.

Danger and intrigue seem to circle these characters which made for an enjoyable read😍 And now I’m looking forward to find out if Romeo will succumb to the innocent Mia and give up his bachelor ways😉 I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review❤️

Good book. This is the fourth book in the series, and while it can be read as a stand-alone, I recommend reading them in order. The backstory of the search for the Santa Cristina and the men (and women) adds increasing depth to the story. In this story, the ship has been found, but the Deep Six team still hasn't found the treasure. While the team hasn't entirely given up hope, they wonder if they will find it before running out of funds.

Chrissy and Wolf struck sparks off each other from the first book. Chrissy owns the local dive shop where the team gets much of their equipment. She also leads dive tours, whose divers pay to help search for the treasure. A strong, independent woman, Chrissy holds her own in a male-dominated business. She and Wolf seem to be perfect for each other, but Chrissy has some serious relationship issues. Her mother constantly searched for love, leaving Chrissy with a revolving door of stepfathers who forgot about her when the relationship ended. While she wants a husband and children, she adamantly refuses to fall in love. She plans to choose with her head and allow love to grow that way.

Wolf has had it bad for Chrissy from the beginning. Though he is a tough SEAL, he has a soft center. He supports several unmarried sisters and their children and clearly loves them all. He wants a family of his own and fervently believes that Chrissy is the one. Wolf frequently made me laugh with his fortune cookie sayings and his hilarious misheard song lyrics.

I enjoyed seeing the relationship between Chrissy and Wolf develop. It started out well with a good friendship that grew into more. Then Wolf made a bone-headed move thanks to misplaced jealousy, and Chrissy shoved him back into the friend zone. Every time he tries to move things forward again, she shoots him down. On a night she finally agreed to meet him for a drink, their world becomes highly complicated. On the way to meet Wolf, Chrissy and her business partner witness some drug
activity. After being shot, her partner is seriously wounded, and Chrissy is knocked into the water, she knows Wolf is the only person who can help. The intensity of this scene had me on the edge of my seat as Wolf sprang into action.

I loved seeing Wolf go into protector mode, appointing himself Chrissy's bodyguard. Being thrown together like that gave Wolf a chance to convince her that they are meant to be together. I loved seeing them grow closer and how Wolf learned why Chrissy feels as she does about love. I loved his determination and the sweet care he took of her. I often got frustrated by Chrissy's stubborn refusal to admit her feelings for Wolf. I loved their interactions. Their similar senses of humor created some hilarious conversations. I liked how Wolf kept demonstrating his love for Chrissy, and showing her falling in love doesn't have to be a bad thing. I also enjoyed how Chrissy's friends pushed her toward Wolf, clearly seeing that they belong together. In the end, Chrissy realizes that she isn't her mother and doesn't have to allow her mother's mistakes to rule her life. I liked seeing them come together in the end.

The suspense of the story was excellent. Chrissy had no idea the seriousness of what she'd stumbled upon at first. The reader gets a look at things from the bad guys' point of view, so we know how much trouble she's in. The bad guys sometimes appear to have regrets about their orders regarding Chrissy but still intend Chrissy's death. I got a bit frustrated with Wolf and the local cop who didn't find the accidents that suddenly kept happening to her suspicious. With the drug cartel breathing down the bad guy's neck, I could feel the desperation to resolve the issue. The final confrontation was a nail-biter. I liked seeing Chrissy practically save herself with a brief assist from Wolf. The identity of the head bad guy surprised me almost as much as it shocked Chrissy.

Alongside the romance between Chrissy and Wolf, a new romance budded between the ladies' man, Romeo, and the super-quiet Mia. Romeo resists the truth of his feelings, so it's easy to see that a hard fall is in his future. I'm looking forward to the next book to see how it turns out.

I also look forward to seeing how the search for the treasure progresses. Things may be looking up as the campsite of the shipwrecked sailors was located, along with the captain's journal.

Review courtesy of Romance Junkies

Ray “Wolf” Roanhorse is a former Navy Seal. He and his Deep Six Salvage partners are searching for a specific sunken Spanish galleon. Wolf has always had a thing for Chrissy, but the woman-in-question wants to remain just friends. When she gets shot, he assigns himself as her caretaker. Wolf plans to use that time to win Chrissy’s love and trust. Can Wolf protect Chrissy against unknown attackers? Will he manage to convince her that he is the settling down kind of man?
Christina “Chrissy” Szarek is a native to the Key West area in Florida. She co-owns a dive shop with her childhood friend. Chrissy refuses to follow in her late mother’s footsteps, so she plans to keep Wolf at arm’s length. However, the irresistible man makes it difficult for Chrissy to stick to her convictions. When unknown assailants target her, she turns to the only man who can protect her. Can Chrissy trust Wolf enough with her heart? Or will he be another bust?
Wolf is such a love! He possesses the right amount of alpha-ness without being too overbearing or conceited. Plus, Wolf has such a fun and wicked sense of humor. He also knows when and where to employ it. I adore Wolf’s selfless sense of responsibility, especially towards his family. He willingly provides financial support for his unmarried sisters and their children. Not too many people would be this generous. What I love the most about Wolf is his penchant for messing up popular song lyrics. He literally is the king of misheard song lyrics.
Chrissy is everything that I enjoy in a heroine. She is equal parts strong and vulnerable. I understand Chrissy’s reluctance to falling in love, especially after witnessing her mother’s many disastrous relationships throughout the years. However, that fear nearly cost her the perfect man right in front of her. What I like the most about Chrissy is her ability to understand when to stand firm and when to concede. She makes it a habit not to rely on others for help. However, when she is wounded, Chrissy does not let pride stand in her way of accepting help from Wolf.
DEEPER THAN THE OCEAN is book four in Julie Ann Walker’s romantic suspense series, THE DEEP SIX. I advise reading the prior three books before jumping into this story, especially RIDE THE TIDE. The author does a wonderful job of setting up the next couple for the following book. I love it when they do this. It gives me something to anticipate!
DEEPER THAN THE OCEAN is an action-packed tale of two people overcoming their insecurities to be together. I cannot wait for Mia and Romeo’s book! It promises to be a great read.

Chrissy and Wolf have been attracted to each other for a long while. Unfortunately, Wolf and Chrissy had a misunderstanding several months earlier, and now she has placed him firmly in the friend zone. She also has a history of being abandoned by people who supposedly love her, so she’s very wary of love. One evening when she is supposed to meet Wolf for a drink, she and her business partner take a shortcut through a warehouse, and see something they shouldn’t see. They get shot at, and Chrissy is injured, allowing Wolf to figure out that she means more to him than he realizes.

This entire series is based on this crew of former Navy Seals who are hunting for the lost treasure of the Santa Cristina. This entry focuses much of the action on the island of Key West, and less on the treasure hunting, although that does occur. The pacing is tight, and something new and dangerous seems to happen fairly regularly. There is tension and uncertainty at times, and dangerous circumstances including guns and knives at other times. Chrissy and Wolf are both stubborn throughout as well, but they both find their way to being vulnerable when it matters.

This book can be read as a stand-alone, but will be enjoyed more fully as part of the entire series. This has been an enjoyable series with memorable characters and lots of interesting banter involved. This reader is awaiting the next installment with excitement and nervous anticipation!

Chrissy is determined not to fall in love after watching her mom go from husband-to-husband. Each one Chrissy fell in love with, as a father, and each left her. She feels that it's better to be in love with your head than to fall in love. However, Chrissy and Wolf can't stay away from each other, they exchange witty banter, and she freaked out when he was injured by the Iranians in the last book.

Wolf left the SEALs, so did his team, as a promise to their brother as he was dying. Chrissy is Wolf's soul mate, but she doesn't want anything to do with him romantically after he screwed up. Big time. Broke her rules. But they managed to talk about it and discovers what really happened. The guys are trying to find the Santa Cristina and all the treasure that disappeared in order to keep from going bankrupt.

Chrissy is in danger, people are trying to kill her, which gives Wolf the advantage of not leaving her side. During each attempt he is johnny-on-the-spot and saves her. The more time they spend together, the more she cannot avoid him or her feelings. Chrissy needs Wolf and his spec-ops training in order to stay on this side of a dirt nap.

I was entranced by this book from the beginning, I've always liked watching these two characters interact over the course of the series. They have such witty comebacks and sarcasm which reminds me of myself and my significant other. I could feel Chrissy's pain through losing her mother and how she felt when all of her step-fathers left. It really changes how you view relationships. Wolf is a strong, caring, good guy over all and good for Chrissy. He is probably the one man who will love her for who she is. I highly recommend this book and can't wait for Romeo and Mia's book. It looks like their luck is turning around and they may be soon finding the Santa Cristina.

Ray "Wolf" Roanhorse has fallen in love with Christina "Chrissy" Szarek. After the night that should not be mentioned Wolf spends his time apologizing for his actions. Meanwhile, Chrissy has her head stuck in the sand saying I won't fall in love. When Chrissy and her best friend Winston are shot at and injured. Wolf steps up his game of winner take all. Why were Chrissy and Winston shot? Will Chrissy let Wolf in? Your answers await you in Deeper Than the Ocean.

I want them to find the treasure already but I can see why it hasn't been totally found yet either. I'd make a poor treasure hunter. I love all the characters! Until next time Happy Reading!

what i’m talking about:

Deeper Than the Ocean is easily my favorite book in Julie Ann Walker’s Deep Six series. I think it’s because the focus has moved away from the treasure hunting plot from the previous books to the suspenseful mystery of a new plot line of attempted murder, drugs, cartel angle.

Also I really like the main couple this time around. Wolf and Chrissy’s story has been simmering since the first book and seeing it come to a HEA was very satisfying.

Chrissy is an independent woman who runs her own diving business. She met Wolf and the rest of the Deep Six gang because of their diving around a ship wreck area. She’s been bring her clients out to their small island in hopes with more eyes looking, the group will find a buried treasure. But Deeper Than the Ocean brings Wolf to Chrissy’s bigger island of Key West.

Wolf blew it with Chrissy when they ran into each other at a local bar, and there was a big misunderstanding that cooled off their sexy banter that was leading to some even sexier times. Fast forward to where Wolf is now helping to protect her from mysterious shooters who she and her best friend and business partner, Winston walked in on doing something not above board. Winston and Chrissy get shot at, she has to run for help and of course thinks of Wolf.

As the story progresses they can’t fight their sexual attraction any longer. Chrissy proposes they have a friends with benefits relationship. Wolf is not happy with this proposal, but figures if that’s what she needs to tell herself because she’s scared of falling in love with him, he’ll take what he can get from her, for now.

Deeper Than the Ocean is a great romance with laughs, a little danger and a whole lot of chemistry and sexual tension all ending with a HEA. You could read it as a stand alone but I recommend reading the whole series for the connections between the group of characters. They are all fun to get to know and I can’t wait for the next story, Shot Across the Bow, featuring Romeo and Mia.

The adventure of the Deep Six crew is into the next round. Unfortunately, the circumstances are quite dark and hopeless, the financial resources are dwindling and the treasure's still not found. The inserts from the logbook of the Santa Catharina are very interesting, and I keep my fingers crossed for the guys that they would be able to find the treasure. Wolf and Chrissie are known from the previous books and both need quite a long time until they manage to talk reasonably with each other.
Chrissie is a strong person who doesn't know how to trust in love.. When her life is in danger, she has no choice but to trust Wolf.
Wolf is amazing and totally hot. His constant cool fortune cookies sayings and his talent to misunderstand every song are very endearing. He is spot on about everything, and he has no major traumas in his past. His family loves him, he loves his family, he knows what he wants - and that is Chrissie. But she is afraid of getting into a dysfunctional dependency on men like her mother. So she doesn't even start with love. Never. Period.
Its so wonderful that the author describes her characters so strong and weak at the same time. In each book, the focus is on a different problem or character trait. Here, a man surrounded by hope and confidence and down-to-earthness falls in love with a woman, who has not experienced any steadiness in her life. Everyone she dared to fall in love with has left and forgotten her. So this book lives from the contrast of the characters. But not only that, the suspense is also great, Chrissie is being chased by nasty people. And the resolution is quite a shock. The erotic moments are special and steamy and every piece fits perfectly together in this story.
In addition there are some hints about Mia and Romeo, and what to expect in the next book, this in combination with all the people living on Wayfarers Island the book is a round, living caring and loving one.

DEEPER THAN THE OCEAN is an action-packed tale of two people overcoming their insecurities to be together.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Deeper Than The Ocean is a fantastic romantic suspense by Julie Ann Walker. Ms. Walker has provided readers with a well-written book and populated it with outstanding characters. I admit, I did give a giggle now and then when I read Chrissy Szarek is a main character in the story. Chrissy runs a dive shop in the Florida Keys and is helping a team of retired SEAL vets search for treasure. Wolf is a former SEAL and after screwing up his first date with Chrissy is finally getting a second chance. When Chrissy shows up soaking wet and bloody Wolf glues himself to her side. Chrissy and Wolf's story is loaded with drama, humor (the laugh-out-loud kind), sizzle, action and suspense. I enjoyed every page of this book and look forward to my next book by Julie Ann Walker. Deeper Than The Ocean is book 4 of the Deep Six Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliffhanger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Sometimes I forget how utterly amazing this authour can spin a tale, draw you in, and make you forget you are reading, not in the world with the characters. Then I read this book, and everything comes back to me! Wolf and Chrissy’s story had it all, adventure, disappointment, suspense, injuries, friendship, love, betrayal, and steam. Chrissy is in deep denial; Wolf is utterly confused at her denial. But they both make some realizations and discoveries as they spend time together, about each other, and themselves. Of course, having to protect Chrissy from the bad guys trying to do her in gives them some intense moments, and opportunities to release all that adrenaline *grins* I didn’t think they would be making me cry, but alas, they did, but only for a moment, before they got it all together!

I am not sure about you but I have been with the series since the beginning. So to kick of the new release, I went back and started it over from the beginning, Hot as Hell (prequel). Each book brought something more to the series. Each one gave you more of a reason to love the next one to come. We had Michael, Leo, Bran, Mason, and now we get Ray. The stakes are still high, but this time around there is a little something more that each man of the team finds to value more than what lies at the bottom of the ocean. Ray (Wolf) finds that his is Deeper Than The Ocean. He finds that he would go even further if necessary. Christina (Chrissy) finds that she may not be able to avoid the brood alpha male. She also finds that there is so much more in wait for her in the ocean and she will need Wolf/Ray more than she would like.

I found this book very enjoyable! A smartly crafted story pulls you in and keeps you right on the edge with a perfect blend of romance, suspense, drama, excitement, danger and emotion. Chrissy and Wolf were quite likable and easy to connect with. The zing between them was obvious and the sparks from their attraction and witty banter really flew. If you enjoy thrills with your swoon, this book is exactly what you've been looking for. This is my independent, impartial review.

JAW has been introducing the next love in the previous book for this whole series, but this time they seem to take up 1/3 of the book. Not that I minded, Romeo and Mia are a good story, but this book is about Wolf and Chrissy.

I liked that while the baddies are sort of connected to the last book, they’re not really.

I did miss seeing all the other guys from deep six. The majority of this story was held in key west, not wayfarer island so LT and the rest only made cameos in this one.

This was a great action packed read that left me on the edge of my seat and wanting more when I finished! As this series is getting closer to finding the treasure, the group is still finding love. In this edition, Wolf and Chrissy take the plunge. Chrissy who had a troubled upbringing surrounding the examples of falling in love from her mother, a mother who fell in love often to get married to then find herself hurt again and again.. We also get Wolf who has fought his feelings for Chrissy for a long time to then give into those feelings.

The story was action packed as Chrissy finds herself in trouble and Wolf is the one to protect her. The chemistry between this pair was off the charts and scorching leaving me hooked to this story. Overall, this was a great book that I was sorry to see end but enjoyed just the same.

I’m loving this series. With each book we learn more about the Spanish galleon and her crew. Treasure is always exciting and sort of knowing what happened from both sides makes this story so intriguing.
Wolf and Chrissy got off to a rocky start and now it’s up to Wolf to turn it around. Unfortunately Chrissy’s past makes it an uphill challenge. This book had so many suspenseful moments I was on the edge of my seat whilst reading. The story is fast paced and so compelling once you start reading you won’t want to stop! Altho this part of the story is complete with a hea the ongoing story just heats up even more. I’m so excited to see where Ms Walker takes us next. And as always the next book you know will be crucial to the overall outcome. Can’t wait for the next book now.

The Deep Six Salvage Team is still working on finding the true treasure of the ancient ship wreck they have salvaged. Problem is that Wolf Roanhorse has problems of his own dealing with Chrissy Szorek, the woman he has wanted for quite a while, but has already made a huge mistake with, and he doesn't know how to fix things.
Chrissy knows that Wolf wants her. She feels the same way. Problem is that she decided years ago she would never fall in love.
This book is well worth the wait. The Deep Six Team is a family who always has each others' backs and always will. The action is roller coaster fast and the emotions will wrap you up and make you smile!

I love Julia Ann Walkers style of writing. I feel like it is the way my mind works, so maybe that is why! Fast paced, action packed, romantic thriller that will have you sneaking pages at work and anywhere you can grab a word or two.

The only reason this isn't 5 stars is I feel like sometimes the writing style takes away from the individuality of the characters. There are times their personality sticks out, and times they, well, don't.

Overall this series is 💯 worth the emotional investment. Don't worry about the time investment, you will devour the books faster than they can be produced and be left waiting eagerly for more
