A strikingly good erotic story about an actress' discovery of what makes fame tick in the Film Industry.
Well-written and original story. It does read, in a certain way, like the Story of O, but it is much more contemporary and unfiltered. Imagine the iconic struggling actress who has endured so much rejection in trying to make it that she is suddenly willing to let herself by humiliated to the extreme for her any chance at stardom. The autobiographical voice gives a certain authenticity and freshness to Madison's journey from naive girl from the South to hungry young actress who learns to accept the fact that she must relinquish all her personal freedom in exchange for real fame. The scenes move from Hollywood cattle calls to perverse training sessions at a private gym to endless seduction/domination by her producer and the major talent agency that signs her.
This is definitely not a tame romance. It's like a dark Cinderella tale in which the princess ventures in her carriage down the forbidden road. One of the most interesting aspects of the main character is how she convinces herself that everything she is doing is making her happy, and she seems to firmly believe that. It's almost like an extreme version of the reality star or actress who believes in a Gordon Gecko kind of way: "Vanity is fine. Fame is magnificent."
Upon finishing this novel, I wasn't sure how to respond to her lack of true character development, but then I realized that that is the point. Her acceptance of being a slave to fame is euphoria and the dominating erotic entanglements she gets involved with are just the bitter-sweet price of living the good life. It's the movieland dream that never dies. Overall, it's a great read and not long at all. A nice book to ploy through as you lounge at a swanky hotel pool...Recommended for the darker kinky types.
