A rookie cop. A team of supernatural detectives. A vigilante kitty shifter breaking bad.
My name is Cat McKenzie, and despite what people might think, I don’t enjoy being chased down darkened streets at night by a ten-foot shadow man who can literally make me die of fright.
Of course, that’s how all this started—the discovery of an underground fight club stocked completely with supernatural slaves.
The plot thickens when seemingly unlinked murders start to form a pattern I begin to recognize.
A supernatural fight club, possessed berserkers and an accidental enslavement, I’m pretty sure I’m getting Punk’d by life right now and I’d like to call cut on this scene.
Lauren Dawes is a USA Today Bestselling Author. She's an urban fantasy/paranormal romance writer and the author of the Half Blood Series and the Dark Trilogy. You won’t find any friendly vampires in between the pages of her books; just blood, teeth and violence.
When she’s not writing, she’s reading or designing book covers. She currently lives in Canberra, Australia with her husband, daughter and cat.
Holy Catness! The author has done it once again, creating a funny, enjoyable, plot forward read with heat, passion, intensity, humor, and snark. Once again Cat and Swayer are trying to solve crimes all while dealing with the supernatural. This story line is a bit different there is an incredibly sad (for me at least) aspect to one the major plot lines, but Cat and Sawyer come to the recuse and triumphs over evil. As with the rest of the books in this series there is a wonderful balance keeping the story fast paced and a fun ride. I really have enjoyed the main characters personalities and their developing relationship. I hope to get a short story in the future about their future.
Another fun aspect of this story/series is the random supernatural, mythological and cryptozoological creatures that the author has added. It is always fun to guess which creatures are coming next and a fun surprise when they act different than I expected them too. It really makes me engage in the story that much more.
Bad Kitty is a wonderful ending to one of my most favorite series. I really enjoyed how it ended, and that there... well, I don' want to spoil it. LOL. I am sad to see it end but so excited for what the author has in que next.
But but but... Jacob, angels, reaver, the grey man???? Well, either the author plays well at misleading you, so you don't see things coming. Or...the author does a great job at misleading....wait, so yeah! Get ready for more laughs, twists, smut, and arses getting kicked...or little aww moments 4.4 stars
The series got progressively worse as it continued. It started with a funny main character trying to deal with her prejudices and find out her past. It ended with... I'm not even sure what it was supposed to be. Or even if it's ended. There was no recommendation for the next book or to say there would be another, just a hope we had enjoyed their adventures. So maybe it's ended?
Except it makes no sense to finish here. Nothing got resolved with Smith. Her friend had an obvious upcoming event that hasn't happened. A new character got introduced and nothing got really discussed about him or how he'll fit. There has been no ongoing overarching plot from the first book to this one. There was the one with her past, but that got finished before this book. Her working on her previous trauma and prejudices finished in book 2, obviously demonstrated when her therapist said she didn't need help anymore (because stopping therapy when you work in a high stress job where you keep killing sentient creatures is definitely something that would be recommended).
In contrast to some of the other books she did barely any killing or physical aggression in this - she was mostly relegated to damsel in distress for the action scenes. There was also no mention of her injuries, which she should still have from book one, or her going to kickboxing which was her hobby. She's not even as funny as in previous books. There should have been dress fittings with her friend but also none of that happened.
And the sex. It's mentioned. A lot. And guess what? The sex scenes were better before they were having sex. Even when they talked about 12" and then made no mention of any special skills she might have but was somehow able to get down to the base that was still better than this. You know what this had? Numbers. It had numbers. It had a 'quickie' where they argued that 30 minutes wasn't quick and she was exhausted because she had come 10 times in that period. They talked about a 6 hour sex session. There was another one where he decided she'd come 12 times before they finished. Sure, he's an incubus. But with clunky writing that is not remotely hot in description and all of these over the top numbers, it reads like a 13 year old who's just gotten interested in sex and thinks quantity is the same as quality.
This book has let down the whole series, which was already average, by having no overarching plot points, reducing the main character's propensity for getting in to danger, terrible sex and ending very weak. It's written like someone writing their first book whose talent is having completed it, not the quality.
Would not recommend. 2 stars only because the first books were better
This book carries on almost immediately from the previous one. You are straight into the action and everything feels familiar. It's a light ,easy read. The strengths of the previous books continue here. Both Cat and Sawyer are well written and the affection, humour and annoyance are still present. The fight/action scenes are paced well and vary enough not to be to repetitive .This book does become more of a two hander though, unlike the others where you had more team members mentioned . Kayla is in it but I think is underused. And here lies my problem with this book... I thought this 5th book would be the last, thinking that the only thing that could perhaps be expanded on was finding out more about the bond or Cats parents. Given a big issue is made out of the opal and it being given to her by her father, it seems to have been forgotten in this story. Nothing moves on much on this book either, aside from the Gray Man which I can see becoming an interesting arc. What starts of well become a bit tired and formulaic Also, an illegal fighting ring isn't overly original in this type of genre. It was all a bit lacklustre. The 3 new recruits have been forgotten, although the appearance of Kayla is welcome. Whilst I really like the way the author has written Cat and Sawyer, she went overboard with sex scenes here- and they are very samey. A few pages were skipped... It also felt really rushed once you got to about 120 pages, almost as if someone had said "finish by page 190 or else!". Overall, this is the weakest book by far. If it's the last book, it's an opportunity missed. If not, the author needs to go back to her drawing board and previous books in the series I think.
As a monster of the week story, this was good. As the end of the series, it’s a let down and I’m just disappointed. I feel like the series lost all semblance of continuity and overarching plot after the third book. We had all those things with the fae that were building and events in previous books changing the outcome of the final fight and elements from the world all adding into something new. And then it stopped. There are zero consequences for the ending of book three. The balance in Faery, and literally Faery in general are just never mentioned again. There’s no threat from vampires now she’s out of their protection. The world sort of just dissolved and left Cat and Sawyer day by day, and a lot of sex. Which is fine, but very different from how this started, and not really an end. Nothing is resolved, new things are introduced and not explored, and it feels like a season got cancelled early. We don’t get answers to their bond, and those new characters that were added still feel like bit parts put entirely on the page to spawn spinoff series. They don’t make sense as police officers. Literal felons with zero experience or training put out in the field with a badge and a gun? I don’t think so. It just delegitimised the entire purpose of the book. And what was the deal with supernatural slaves being legal? They literally don’t even finish up the plot they’re working on, just finish when one of the bad guys is dead. Ahhhh… there were a group of them? And we’re all just fine with slaves as long as their murders don’t inconvenience your case load? This feels like the second book in a series trying to build to something epic plot-wise, and an excuse for sex relationship-wise. I was really excited for this book, but it just doesn’t feel like finished story, let alone a series ender. It’s definitely the weakest in the series.
Cat and Sawyer are investigating the deaths of women, purportedly committed by the Gray Man. It’s never revealed how he came to be in America instead of his home in Scotland. Nevertheless he seemingly becomes bonded to Cat, much to Sawyer’s displeasure.
Cat and Sawyer discover an illegal paranormal fight club. The fighters are slaves unlawfully owned by humans. These fights are to the death unless the owner throws in the towel.
Almost concurrently these rich owners start dying by apparently committing suicide. Cat and Sawyer are more or less on a wild goose chase because the number of supposed self inflicted deaths just doesn’t make sense but they can’t figure out what is actually happening,
The three new rookies make a brief appearance with the harpy being the only one to help with the investigation. (I actually wonder why these characters were created since they don’t add anything to the story and the series seems to be finished) The Gray Man does contribute a lot to the plot but is still pretty much of a mystery at the end.
I felt there were a lot of unanswered questions and loose ends that weren’t addressed.
This was a good ending to the series but it certainly left the door open for future books. Cat and Sawyer are now bonded, meaning that they feel everything that the other person feels and if one dies so will the other. They accidently discover an underground supernatural fight club while chasing down a Grey Man (someone who blends in the shadows and can bring someone’s worst fears to the forefront of their mind). after finding one of the two fighters they arrested dead the following morning, they are advised of the death of the man in charge of the fight. What looks like a suicide leaves many questions to be answered. When another major person in the club also is found dead of suicide, they figure out there is something more going on. This book has some action, mystery, surprises, humour and lots of sex. This book does not fade to black for either the action or the romance. It is a quick, easy, enjoyable read. I found this a good series, nothing too deep, just reading pleasure. I will probably read more by this author.
I don't usually write reviews here but after finishing this series I just couldn`t believe that it ended the way it did…
I came to Goodreads looking for information about the next book and found out that yep, apparently this is it.
There are soo many questions, so many things unanswered, that I Just can`t recommend a series like this one. It doesn’t feel like it has ended.
I might reconsider my review if another book explains Reaver, Willy, what exactly is Cat (cause she’s apparently human but has some influence over reaver, a supernatural consort and her parents were two of the strongest lineages of the rogue faction.. why would there be such a thing as “strong lineage” if you’re human?), her relationship with Kayla, Smith, and even Sasha’s wedding would be nice to read about.
Anyway, I just hope this is not the end. If it is, than this is a really disappointing end to great first books.
A Captivating Series! What can I say about this series? Absolutely freaking awesome! Lauren Dawes is one of my favorite authors that I make sure I get her newest books! She’s always on my Wanted Books List! The trouble that Cat can get into makes this series so Enchanting! The interacting between Cat and Sawyer so fascinating! When the Shadow Man comes after Cat there is an unexpected surprise that could either be a complication or just what she needs to survive this case! I definitely can’t wait to see what happens next with Cat, Sawyer, the Shadow Man and the Supernatural Detective Team! I want to thank Lauren Dawes for writing such Amazing Paranormal books that make me want to drop everything just so I can read her latest book! If you haven’t read any of her books I recommend that you start with Cat McKenzie series and then Helheim Wolf Pack!
After accidentally running into an organized supernatural fight club, Cat and Sawyer need to break up the ring, solve several deaths that might just be murders, and deal with homicidal supes at every turn. Just a regular week at the PIG!
Snark master Cat is back at it again, along with her Incubus Consort Sawyer; and a magical tagalong or two. As with the other stories in this series, we are treated to some fast action, at least on mystery, and some romance, as well as meeting a variety of supernatural beings.
This is a fun escape book, quick to read with plenty of snarktastic adventures to keep you entertained throughout.
Amusing fun for the paranormal and urban fantasy fans out there.
In this last installment, which I really hope isn't the last installment, Cat and Sawyer work to break up and illegal supe fighting ring where illegal supe slaves are pitted against each other. So again Cat shows us that she is amazingly imperceptive and not an ideal partner because of that, but I still enjoy her snark after 5 books.
I just really really wanted more:
-More information on what being the consort of an incubus actually means -More about Reaver, like literally anything. I am so curious -More about her new found bond and what that means -Does she ever get SMith off her back for good?...
And there is plenty more where that came from. Despite all of that I couldn't stop reading this series so 4 stars.
I really liked the whole series. It was face paced, funny, plenty of action and lots of steam. I enjoyed the characters. The only thing is, I felt like this shouldn’t be the end. Three new recruits were introduced, but only one really did anything. So why bother? Also, I felt like there was a big lead up to something going down with Smith, but then nothing. Not to mention the spider, I expected there to be a book where the spider comes back into play (or at least her babies). Overall I really liked it, I just feel the end seemed more of an ending leading to another book rather the end of the series.

I loved Cat and Sawyer's journey together fighting the evil paranormals and catching the bad guys. This series sucks you in from the first book you'll love Cat's sarcastic sense of humor and her unicorn obsession and her relationship with Sawyer. There's definitely no dull moments in this series. My only complaint is I wanted the ending to be a bit longer it felt a bit abrupt I wanted to see how things were going to be with them few years down the road or after few months especially with Willy's attachment to her.
I am so glad I followed the FB recommendation for the first book in this series. Five books later I am really enjoying it and looking forward to the next book in the series.
The main protagonist, Cat, is snarky and entertaining. The crimes are intriguing and all the supernatural characters introduced are interesting. This is a unique and highly entertaining world and I can’t wait for more.
⭐️: 2.75/5 🌶️: 3.5/5 (frequency) Narration: 3/5, single POV
This series deserved a better ending. There were no answers. I feel like the author just wasn’t sure she was ending the season until the last 1/3 of the book. Then just rushed to give something that felt like it could be the end in an epilogue.
Also, the FMC became annoying. We get all this way and the characters fall absolutely flat.
Snarkly, funny (and yes I know that is not a word but we all know what it means; very much like Cat. With a man who loves Cat more than life itself and has no problem showing her always, and trying to keep her out of trouble / alive as Cat finds trouble. This book with the has it all. I highly recommend this series.
As this series wraps, Cat and Sawyer find themselves trying to unravel an underground supernatural fighting ring coupled with related suicides and Cat sees more different supernaturals than she has snark for. The opal and the team make token appearances but this outing is only concerned with Cat and Sawyer checking the formula boxes. Rating: 3.5stars
I liked the story and I love reading about Cat and Sawyer but I can't help wonder if this is truly the ending of the series. I still have questions left unanswered and for the longest time I wasn't sure if this is actually the final book. I feel like there were plot point laid out that was meant to be explored but everything was been left untouched.
I loved this book the best but I hope it's not the end. I wanna read more of Kat and Sawyer. I love them. They are hilariously devoted to each other. I love her obsession with unicorns, his jealousy over sharing her.

Bad Kitty is the Fifth installment in author Lauren Dawes Cat McKenzie series. Rookie cop, and Paranormal Investigative Group (PIG) liaison Cat McKenzie has been enlightened by the Paranormal world around her, while becoming consort to her partner Sawyer, who is an incubus. She also carries around a long sword called Reaver, as well as an Opal, given to her by her father, which warns her when she's in trouble. After chasing after a monster called the Grey Man, Cat and Sawyer discover an underground supernatural fight club.
This is a nice fifth addition to the series. Cat and Sawyer are DEFINITELY solidfying their relationship! An action packed storyline encompassing an illegal fight club, mysterious deaths, and the shadowy Gray Man. Hopefully their story goes on!
I would definitely recommend this series. I couldn't stop until I finished this in 3 days. Cat and her snarkiness had me laughing. The romance was sizzling hot. And all the adventures they went threw it me on the edge of my seat.
The entire "BAD" series was really good. Lauren portrayed her characters in a funny but serious way. The chemistry between Car and Sawyer makes you want to read more. There are only 5 books and I was hoping for a 6th.
I highly recommend this intensely kick@$$ book, and the fascinating series in which it is, to readers who love reading imaginative Urban Fantasy. Enjoy!
