The second book in what is turning into a must read series. Isla is an absolute delight & hides a secret of her own but she's determined to stop Duke from duping the heiresses at the house party even if it means sharing kisses with him. I loved Duke who had inherited a rundown cash strapped viscountcy but more importantly he needs to find his mother. I loved the couple who both admitted they were in lust, their chemistry was electric, gradually their relationship changed & grew & I was totally invested in their rocky road to a HEA. A very well written engrossing read with charming characters. My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
- I am loving Tamara Gill's writing. This was such an enjoyable story. - It was surprisingly emotional at times, as I felt it in my gut every time Isla was slighted and Duke hesitated. - The characters were well-developed for a short book. - What a spitfire Isla was! - It needed an epic grovel, but which HR does not? - I loved the banter, the romance and the steam!

I really enjoyed this book, it was a lot of fun. I thought the story developed at a satisfactory pace so following along was easy. These characters flip-flopped with their feelings a lot but it was somehow done in a minimally annoying way.
The language used was quite crude and modern for a historical drama, it didn’t feel all that accurate at times but I could look past that. A wholly enjoyable read nonetheless.
My first historical romance! Who knew that rigid societal structures and old English steamy flirting entirely through subtext and stolen touches would be so hot. I never read any of the bridgertons, but I imagine they’re just like this only longer.
It's one thing after another with the hero and heroine. They met and become fast friends until the heroine found out that the hero is broke and is looking for an heiress to marry, and he think she is not wealthy enough to suit his purpose. The heroine is pissed so she sabotages his efforts at wooing the heiresses. The hero is pissed at the heroine, but they can't keep their hands, fingers, lips and tongue off each other. Eventually hero and heroine get caught alone together, hero is pissed because now he has to marry a female, he thinks is broke. Hero finds out that the heroine is wealthier than he ever imagined. Heroine is pissed because she thinks that the hero is marrying her for her money. Heroine gets over her anger quickly when they start having lude sex just about everywhere. Doesn't last long because heroine gets pissed when hero tells her that he might have a crazy mama. Heroine thinks their kids will be crazy too. The ton finds out that the hero is broke and has a crazy mama. The hero feels guilty, so he breaks off the engagement with the heroine. At a ball everybody is talking shit about the broke hero and his crazy mama. The heroine gets pissed and tell them all off and tells the hero that she doesn't care about him being a broke gold digger with a crazy mama, she still wants to marry him. I gave this two stars because the heroine went from an innocent to a harlot in the blink of an eye. They were also constantly pissed off at each other which I found to be tedious.

He has to marry someone with money in order to salvage his home and save his mother from an unfortunate situation. But he finds himself falling in love with a woman who doesn't have the kind of dowry he needs
She's a heiress, who wants to marry for love and she despises fortune hunters. But she finds herself falling in love with the very type of man she despises.
After being found in a compromising position they have no choice but to wed and despite the fact that he kept secrets from her and she kept secrets from him, they manage to not only realize they desire each other but they can't fight the fact that they love each other.
This story was absolutely captivating from beginning to end. I look forward to the next book in this series.
After her sister's marriage to the Duke, Isla Woodville is invited to a house party by one of his friends. There she meets the most handsome man she has ever seen. Duke, Lord Leigh is in need of a rich heiress. Unfortunately, the woman he is drawn to is not an heiress but is captivating and driving him crazy. After their first kiss, the draw between them only gets stronger. Giving into their passion will not necessarily make a successful marriage, but exploring the passion for each other leads to discovery and a forced marriage. Is it really forced or is there more to their inevitable attraction? Only Duke has a secret that could call off the wedding. Steamy encounters. EXCELLENT SERIES!!!!! .. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Isla Woodville stood watching as her sister, and husband enjoyed their wedding breakfast, and got ready to leave. Her younger sister Julia stood with her. Soon it would be her turn to have her season and join the marriage mart. She was excited , but also nervous. The ton could be unfriendly, and snobish. Luckily she and a friend had been invited to a country house party, with many friends of her new brother in law. She was nervous at first, but she met a Viscount Leigh, who was easy to laugh with, and easy to talk to . Perhaps her season would be fine with nice gentlemen like these around. They became fast friends because she had no desire to choose anyone before her season started. She overheard him, and his friends making rude jokes on who were the best ladies to show interest in. It was not based on anything but money. Her name was skipped over to having only five thousand pound dowry. It made her feel small, and hurt. She had much more to offer than that, but she would not share that secret with anyone there. This was a book full of passionate kisses, and attraction. She was in her Season but still could not forget the viscount, nor his touch. She new he was near broke, he needed a fortune due to his father's gambling habits, and Isla could not be his bride. He kept flirting though, and giving her kisses, even though he knew he could not ask for her. It was a funny, but also a heartfelt story. It shows the double edged sword of the Ton, and their gossip. The mystery part added a good twist, and I really liked the ending..I gave it 5 stars. The story was very enjoyable, and it was also a good look at what people had to choose, or be persuaded to do ,to obtain money, or titles. I loved that the heroine was not like that.
I am throughly enjoying Tamara Gill's new series about the Wayward Woodvilles and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.
Duke Dillon, Viscount Leigh is in need of an heiress not just because his estate is in dire financial straits, but because his mother has been placed in bedlam somewhere in Spain and he desperately needs funds to pay for her discovery so that he can finally bring her home to England now is father is deceased.
Isla Woodville doesn't really want to attend Viscount Billington's house party let alone partake of a season in London as she finds all the Lords attending her sister Hailey's wedding to the Duke of Derby to be arrogant, self important and oh so boring and she suspects that it will be the same at the house party, thank goodness that she has managed to get her dearest friend Harlow invited as well.
Sparks fly between Isla and Duke, but misunderstandings and overheard conversations cause a rift in their budding friendship. As Duke believes that only an heiress of at least 10,000 will only do whereas Isla with her rumored dowry of 5,000 will not. Unbeknownst to the Ton Isla's dowry is in considerably more in fact it is 40,000 and not the rumored 5,000.
Will Duke and Isla overcome these misunderstandings and realise that what they both seek is within their grasp if they would only take that leap of faith.

On a Wild Duke Chase is the second instalment in the Wayward Woodville series by Tamara Gill and is a sharp and witty romance with plenty of passion and flair.
Duke Dillon Viscount Leigh has secrets. His estate is nearly broke, his mother has been institutionalised and to prevent ruin he must find a heiress to marry in the hopes that her money will save his family from financial collapse. The house party he’s currently attending would be the perfect opportunity to decide on a wife—-if only he didn’t find himself drawn to a mouthy, opinionated miss to has made it her mission to thwart him. Isla Woodville liked Lord Leigh the moment she met him, until she overheard his requirements for a bride. If he thinks he’s going to marry a rich heiress for her deep pockets he has another think coming. Isla has no intention of letting him get away of duping an unsuspecting lady and sets about to ruin his less than noble intentions. If only she didn’t have so much fun scheming and getting in his way. And if only he didn’t kiss as well as he schemes. When their game of cat and mouse comes to a tipping point Duke is forced to offer marriage. Isla knows she should accept but she wants a love match and for all his heated kisses and lingering touches, she’s not sure Lord Leigh can give her that. Is happily ever after a possibility or will Duke’s secrets destroy any chance of a future between them?
Delving into the second novel in the Wayward Woodville series, I must say I throughly enjoyed On a Wild Duke Chase. Both main characters were strong willed and had a delectable chemistry between them. Tamara Gill seems to have a knack for writing characters that think they know what they want but who actually need something—-or someone else—-entirely to be happy. The story was quick but effective reading. I’m enjoying getting lost in grand balls and house parties and seeing the ton go about their lives in the pursuit of love and status.
Iqsla and Duke were both wonderful characters to follow. Isla was very brazen and determined and I loved the stubborn streak she seemed to have. Despite the manner in which he sought to seek a wife, Duke AKA Lord Leigh was actually a nice young man and I felt for him—-he was caught between a rock and a hard place. No choice he made was going to lead to happiness for everyone involved but he seemed to seek the less nefarious of options where possible. If only he didn’t keep so many secrets. Then again if he didn’t the story certainly wouldn’t be so riveting!
Passionate and romantic On a Wild Duke Chase was an effortless read that hooked me from beginning to end and leaves me keen to see what more adventures the Woodville women have in store!
Lord Leigh needs money, his estate is in ruins and his mother has been sent abroad and locked up in an institution. What he needs is a rich heiress, what he wants is Isla Woodville. But after overhearing him speak about marrying only for money, Isla grows appalled and decides she is going to teach this man a lesson.
This wasn't a bad read, but it certainly was not my favorite. I absolutely loved the first book of this series and I am a big fan of Tamara Gill's writing but this book fell short for me. To start, there was a lot of repetition- about the fact that he's only marrying for money and that his mother is in Bedlam. It was just overused too much. Isla started off as a likable character but somewhere towards the middle she turned cruel and vindictive and I didn't like that. Then she turned into a brazen woman having to control everything even sex. The banter back and forth between them should have been playful and teasing but it didn't read that way to me. And I never felt a connection between Isla and Duke sadly. It just seemed like lust and sex scenes were thrown in gratuitously. Both characters felt really shallow. Honestly, most of the book was a bit boring to me, the only part I really enjoyed was the last two chapters and the epilogue.
So why a 4 star review? Overall, this isn't a bad book, it just wasn't a great book to me. I think the storyline was great and it did redeem itself at the end. Tamara Gill is a strong writer, and I feel many people will enjoy this story. I do look forwards to more stories from this series and this author. I received an advanced copy in exchange for my review.
Miss Isla Woodville is at a house party to prepare her for her first season, by mingling with Tom before going. She & her sisters have grown up in the country but since her sister recently married the Duke of Derby, the sisters were now going to be thrust onto the marriage mart of a season.
Duke Dillon, Viscount Leigh, is looking for an heiress after his father left the estate penniless, so this house party will be an excellent opportunity to woo one of the three heiresses attending & marry quickly. However, the lovely sister-in-law of his best friend, the Duke of Derby, has decided to poke her stubborn self into his wooing of the heiresses.
Leigh & Isla's relationship goes from liking, to disliking, to ruining plans, then comes passion, he has a secret & she is keeping something from him, they are caught in a compromising situation & forced to marry & that is only the first part of their obstacle filled journey to happiness. I highly recommend this book - it has an entertaining story, wonderful main & secondary character that bring love, humor & happiness to the book. I voluntarily read & reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts & opinions are my own.
THE BANTER IS FANTASTIC!! On a Wild Duke Chase by Tamara Gill is book 2 in The Wayward Woodvilles series and I am so loving this series. What I really like this enemy to lover story is that it goes back and forth so much that I never knew what was going to happen next and I could not figure out where this was going or how it was going to end. I must admit that the beginning was a tad slow but it didn’t take long for it to take off and then I could not put it down. I ended up reading it in one sitting. The writing is so very well done, the story original and it gives the real feel of the regency era. Another great read by Tamara Gill!!! This story has a Viscount that need to marry for money, an heiress that wants to marry for love, a house party, raising up in status, over hearing a conversation, becoming enemies, warning other ladies, a forced proposal, scandal and falling in love. I am highly recommending you read this book. It really is Fantastic!!!
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
I received an ARC of "On A Wild Duke Chase" from the fabulous Tamara Gill and voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This is the second book in The Wayward Woodvilles series. I thought I loved the first book in the series, this is above and beyond my liking. Isla Woodville and Viscount Duke Leigh are attending the same house party. Duke is looking for a rich heiress to help him fix his financial woes. Isla is simply attending it to get a feel for her upcoming season. She overhears him saying he needs a rich wife, and immediately dislikes his demeanor even though they had an instant attraction. Things come together with their kissing at this party and Isla's dislike of fortune hunters causes her to leave. They meet again after her foral debut, sparks fly, they are compromised and must wed. This is a fabulous story of friends to enemies to friends again. Their banis superb. The quirks hit the mark every time. Honestly, completely adored this story.
On a Wilde Duke Chase, by Tamara Gill was smashing good. I loved everything about it. As I read the story Isla and Lord Leigh reminded me of a modern day Cinderella, but in this one Lord Leigh is the one seeking to live a better life. I loved how the story was told. The writer did a wonderful job with sharing the background story of both characters, Lord Leigh and Isla. I thought that this helped me get to know the characters more and also to see what their intentions and goals were. Both really wanted the romance and love. I think the writer supplied more moments for the characters to be together allowing their romance to grow. I like how the writer shared those moments in great detail, while dropping steamy hints of seduction here and there. I thought the details and descriptions of the story supplied the information to the story to were the readers feels that this is a believable story. The romantic and illicit moments in the cover of darkness offered the readers a lot of entertainment for their imagination.
I am at 32% and I will be finishing this book but I have to get something off my chest right now! I am loving the premise and Isla is a delight. My issue is with Duke’s internal dialogue. It’s a tricky thing, I know. Authors struggle with it but in this case if I have to read one more time (and I know it will be many more times 😩) as Duke is thinking about bringing his mother home I am going to scream. As many times in this first third of the book that he has internally mentioned that she is in Bedlam in Spain and he doesn’t know how she is being treated blah blah blah. Ugh! I’m too lazy to go back and count how many times it has been written but it is far too often. I realize it is the driving force in marrying for money but we don’t have to have it shoved down our throats over and over. I don’t know how or if I can give a half star so it shows 4 but I wanted to give 3.5. I am truly hoping I am at 4 by the conclusion. The repetition will prevent a 5, I have no doubt.
Sheesh, she or he are to be doing something. Trying to get the other's attention. The other part of the story, is about whose house is going to throw what ball. They may go to next. Or whose going to be there. Ugh... If you're into the lives that lived back then, and what is about to happen or what is going on. This is for you to read and become interested in! It can be exciting. The happening and who is doing what. Or whose doing what, trying to get the other person's attention. It's a going on and who is to be doing what. It is a going on, that keeps you busy reading to see or what is to happen. It catches you so you can not stop reading. If you're into this kind of going on's.
You may think that it's another love story. But you can be caught up on what is to happen. YOU GET CAUGHT AND CAN'T STOP READING UNTIL THE END, AND YOU HAVE TO TRY TO CALM YOURSELF DOWN!!
Duke and Isla 4.5 stars The title is misleading as hero is named Duke and it’s not his title! This story had so many twists and turns well do try to keep up! Isla wants to marry for love. Duke needs money due his fathers mismanagement but also to free his mother from a Spanish Asylum. She left when he was a child and only learned of her residence on his fathers deathbed. Isla is a greater heiress than anyone at the house party and she invites Duke the Viscount to trust her when they absolutely can not keep their hands off one another! They are either kissing or arguing or both!!! Duke believes Isla dowry is modest and he is ashamed of what he believes is mental illness in his family! When they are compromised Duke does finally confess and gives Isla a choice to free herself! But the Ton is Cruel and the same ladies he once courted turned like vipers on him! So proud of the way Isla defended him! Yasss honey stand by your man! Also her sister, her husband and father also stood by them they realized it was love! I loved the ending! What a couple! Can’t wait for the next one!!
One word: tedious. So many deceptions are piled upon us by the hero and the heroine, The reasons behind these deceptions feel weak to me. To make matters worse, the hero isn't even a genuine Duke, but merely goes by the nickname 'Duke' while being a mere Viscount. This is the second book I've read by this author, and unfortunately, it didn't quite resonate with me. The writing itself is decent, but the plot left me feeling a bit frustrated. I suppose I'm not the target audience for this author.
On a positive note, the book does have a high level of steaminess, but it's rather short in length.
This is my favorite Tamara book. Here is why. If you are like me and like lots of angst and enemies-to-lovers, here is your sign to read this fabulous story. The bickering. I know, a lot of people like nice sweet, low-angst books but not me. The angstier, the better. I love all of the “I cannot stand you” between heated kisses and exchanges. I have read almost all of Tamara’s stories and have loved them all so for me to say this it must be good. Run, don’t walk, and get this story if you like snarky and sexy stories. There is also a part of the story that is heartbreaking and I admit at the end I did have a tear or two running down my face.
Isla admired Duke until she realizes he is a fortune hunter and assumes her dowry was not large enough to save him. I was surprised she push herself forward in a way to try to prevent him from marrying another. Not all those ladies he was interested in were kind and if she wanted revenge that would have been just. Isla's actions brings about Duke's ire and his passions. Their bantering made me laugh. But Isla was a little too judgmental and she could have told Duke the truth while she agonizes about him marrying another. He tells her a family secret that could ruin him and pushes her away knowing that she could be carrying his child.
Passion, scandal, secrets, betrayal, fortunes and love!
Lord Viscount Duke Leigh is on the prowl for a bride, fortuneless women need not apply! Miss Isla Woodville tumbles at the feet of Lord Leigh and falls head over slippers for him until she learns of his secret. Trying to save her new acquaintances from a love less match, Miss Isla creates havoc for Lord Leigh at every turn while taunting and tempting him to break his own rules to rescue his estate and find an heiress! This story proves that love together with open communication is what makes a strong union and the rest will work its way out!
Thank you for a main character that is TALL and not a red haired petite! As a tall person I often resent authors who choose tiny women for their main character. Iowa was the middle daughter and her father was in trade. This class of people were often quite wealthy but looked down upon by the peers of. the ton. Nobility was running out of money due to their extravagant lifestyles and not producing as much income as they spent. Duke Leigh had the title of Viscount, but his father had emptied the coffers. Duke had sold everything that was not nailed down but he needed a heiress to wed for her fortune to put him to rights.
I absolutely loved the book. Another wonderful story from Tamara Gill. Duke a Viscount needed to marry and heiress because of the debt his father left and he needed the money to get his mother of out Bedlam in Spain. Isla wants to marry for love so no one knows that she is an heiress with one of the largest dowries. She meets Duke at a house party and both feel the chemistry but when she hears he needs to marry an heiress she is thrown off kilter and decides to hinder him in anyway she can. When they meet again during the next season, Duke accidentally compromises Isla and they get engaged. A wonderful story with a beautiful ending and a twist.
I was able to grab a copy of this during the "Stuff Your iPad" event on March 31, and I am soooooo glad I did. It's everything I want in a historical romance ... a bit of drama, a feisty, aware heroine, a man who wants his lady (badly!), despite knowing it probably shouldn't/wouldn't work.
I read this in one sitting, during a bout of puppy-induced insomnia ... I started reading it, hoping reading would calm me down and help me go back to sleep. Instead, the exact opposite happened and I wrapped it up at 3 a.m. (whoops)
A super fun, engaging read and I'm tracking down the other books in this series!
This is a nicely written enjoyable book, which I read in one afternoon. This is about Duke, Lord Leigh who needs to marry a heiress. Isla is a country girl who meets him at a house party. They become friends until she hears he wants to marry for money. Even though Isla does not like Duke, and he can’t marry her, it is hard for them to stay apart. This is the second book in the series, but you do not have to read previous books to enjoy this book. I received an ARC of this book and am leaving my honest opinion.
