God desires to speak to and through all of His people, not just the clergy or the “professional” Christians. The gift of prophecy is for everyone, and you do not have to be a prophet to hear from God and speak to others in a way that will encourage, strengthen and comfort them. This is a “Guide for Non-Prophets” and in that we mean to take off some of the mystery as well as the pressure to be a “Prophet of the Lord.” We can enjoy the process of learning to hear from God and the pleasure of seeing Him use you to bless others by sharing what the Lord is bringing to mind. What could be better than that? This book is divided into three sections, and I will borrow a phrase from the late John Wimber when describing them. When John talked about doing the things in the Bible that Jesus and His disciples did, he called it “doing the stuff.” This would include things like healing, deliverance, caring for the poor, and of course, prophesying. Here are the three Doing the Stuff - Instruction and stories about the gift of prophecy and how to “do it.” 2. Practicing the Stuff - 10 activation exercises to help discover and develop the gift of prophecy in small groups, as well as guidelines for doing prophetic small groups. Pastoring the prophetic is also discussed. 3. Learning the Stuff - Biblical and Theological Insights section that takes a more academic look at the gift of prophecy. You will notice that the order seems to be backwards, in a Fire, Aim, Ready sequence. That is intentional, as you will learn more by doing than you will by simply studying. We endeavor to inspire you to go deeper into pursuing God in this area of prophecy by providing examples of how we have done it and what we have learned. No matter where you find yourself along the continuum of maturity in the gift of prophecy, from absolute novice to experienced prophetic minister, you will find that the depth of God’s revelation can never be fully sounded. The Apostle Paul uses very strong language when he “Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy.” (1Cor. 14.1). He is in a sense saying, “go hard and pursue the gift of prophecy.” We hope this book will assist you in doing just that.
At first I didn’t think this book is gonna be any good. I was a little sceptic about the topic and the title. But since it was a gift from somebody I hold very dear, I said I’ll give it a try. And guess what- from the beginning it captivated me. Seeing how God has worked in these ppls lives and through them. What wonders He has made ! It only intrigued my curiosity and my desire to become like that as well ! I think this book is very well structured and the explained. Due to it’s topic, it could be seen as controversial, but in my opinion the authors did a pretty good job explaining, dividing, comparing “prophecy” with a solid Bible foundation. All this to say- to all of you that want to learn more and to grow in the prophetic, yet don’t know where to start and what it’s all about, I highly recomand reading this book. !
