Old Eli is a post Civil War monument erected by the Grand Army of the Republic at Sacramento California, Historic City Cemetery. Reportedly made of white bronze, it was neither white nor bronze. It was actually made of zinc. It was one of over seventy of that model erected by Civil War veterans that still survive today. Old Eli was erected in 1889 and was supplied by the Monumental Bronze Company of Bridgeport, Conn. The search is on to try and locate every remaining statue of this style.
