A friends to lovers and marriage of convenience romance that will make you laugh and fan yourself and head to the fridge for a cold one.
USA Today Bestselling author Merry Farmer lives in suburban Philadelphia with her two cats, Justine and Peter. She has been writing since she was ten years old and realized she didn't have to wait for the teacher to assign a creative writing project to write something. It was the best day of her life. Her books have reached the top of Amazon's charts, and have been named finalists for several prestigious awards, including the RONE Award for indie romance.
Lady Shannon O’Shea has seen all of her sisters married off by their brother, Fergus, during the past year, in order to keep them out of trouble, and she is determined not to encounter the same fate. She has far too many other things on her hands, including her secretive, scandalous, and growing beer brewing business. Enter Lord Colin Crenshaw, Earl of Stamford. Colin is in Ireland to serve as best man for his cousin, Deane the Duke of Blackburn, but it is the bride’s sister, Shannon, who catches his attention. Shannon is older than him, wiser than him, and prettier than him (although just barely, in his opinion). She owns a small brewery, he loves beer. He thinks they’re a match made in heaven & he proposes on their first meeting but he’s joking isn't he? Oh I just love the O’Shea family & their stories are fun, entertaining, steamy & just a delight. Short enough to be read in an afternoon but long enough for strong characters & a well paced complete story. Shannon has been the mother hen & is feeling a bit lost as her brood of unruly sisters have now flown the coop. Then she meets Colin & a new side of Shannon is revealed. Colin is young, fun loving but certainly not idle. Together sparks fly, their verbal bantering is delicious & their attraction electric. I just loved this captivating read My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Lady Shannon O’Shea is hurt that her three sisters betrayed their vow to maintain their independence together and have all married. She’s determined she won’t do the same but will instead focus on expanding her brewery and won’t bother with a man.
Lord Colin Crenshaw, Earl of Stamford, has come to Ireland to be the best man in his cousin, Lord Blackburn’s, wedding. But Shannon catches his attention immediately and he believes an older woman may be just what he needs. He’s not like most men of his rank and enjoys dirtying his hands with real work. He just has to convince Shannon of his sincerity.
This book has one of the most adorable meet cutes I’ve read. Colin’s boyish exuberance was utterly charming and impossible to resist. On the other hand, Shannon’s stubborn surliness was difficult to tolerate, especially when she realized it was uncalled for and Colin didn’t deserve her ire, yet she still vented her temper on him anyway. For a while there I was wondering what Colin saw in her because she belittled him and yelled at him so much. I was definitely cheering for Colin and eventually Shannon when she started listening to her feelings rather than just trying to hold on to her independence. I was holding out hoping that we’d see some steamy scenes featuring a submissive hero given much of what Colin said to Shannon but sadly that was never truly realized, although this was still steamy. Overall, I enjoyed this fun story and this may be my favorite couple thus far just because of how charmed I was by Colin.
Quick Review 1. The Plot - Ostentatious (as if that is a surprise), interesting trope (heroine is older), handled well 2. The Writing - Modern, humorous, varying degrees of emotional depth 3. The Main Characters - Age-appropriate descriptions, some personal development, independent 4. The Side Characters - Some annoying, some interesting, but all of them have a place, so to speak 5. The Chemistry - Good balance & meshing, great steam
Interesting Mention - The fight that Colin & Shannon have, I never thought I would take the side of a 22-year-old against a 30-year-old! Colin showed great maturity with his kiddish behaviour, and Shannon showed she was capable of vulnerability and lashing out despite trying to be an independent female. I liked that as nothing gets me on edge than extreme reactions and unfounded accusations.
My Recommendation A fun read for an uncommon trope that was handled with dignity. Recommended barring the requirement for historical accuracy.
Another great adventure with the lively O'Shea sisters! This time Shannon gets her turn and we know how opinionated and determined she is!
But when she meets Lord Colin Crenshaw, she might has met her match! Handsome, humorous and it seems he has love at first sight and proposes. Or does he?
Another fun romp, signature writing of this author that always entertains!
Wonderfully delightful story of Lord Colin Crenshaw, the Earl of Stamford, one of the most enjoyable light-hearted characters you could meet, and Lady Shannon O’Shea a lovely but more serious minded young lady. Loved these two characters and the family (except Colin's parents who you just want to slap). Can be read as a standalone, but whole series is great, so recommend you read.
I loved Shannon and Colin's story in Earls Just Wanna Have Fun! They were so cute together and Colin's wit and wickedness lightens Shannon's seriousness nature.
When Colin meets Shannon it is love at first sight. For him anyway. She is older than him, beautiful and he proposes marriage on the spot. Shannon scoffs of course, but this "boy" is more than what he seems on the outside. Colin is determined to prove that he is more than a pretty face, more than just an heir or a noble, he can turn other peoples' first impressions of him upside down.
Shannon thinks Colin is being silly. She is focused on her brewing business, assisting with Chloe's wedding and sulking a bit because her sisters are leaving her and breaking their pact to never marry. She has tried to form an alliance with a number of bar owners but they refuse to do business with a female brewer, Colin offers to masquerade as her associate. She is a bit shocked when he is actually a help.
These two quickly realize that maybe there is more than meets the eye for each of them. They are a very cute, and slightly wicked, couple who are made for each other. Ms. Farmer brings the heat in this book!
Merry Farmer’s “Earls Just Wanna Have Fun” (That Wicked O'Shea Family Book 4) is my favorite in the series! This book is every bit of awesome, funny, delightful and entertaining! The book can be read as a standalone but having had the pleasure of reading the other books in the series I’m sure you’ll want to read them all as well.
The O’Shea family, an unconventional Irish family who have the most wonderful family dynamic.
Lady Shannon O’Shea is the last of the O’Shea sisters for Fergus, her brother to marry off. But it would seem that Lady Shannon has other ideas that don’t include marriage. She’s intelligent, beautiful, strong, independent and committed to dream of getting her brewing business off the ground. The problem is, men just don’t take her seriously as women have no place in the business world.
Lord Colin Crenshaw, Earl of Stamford is in Ireland to serve as best man for his cousin, Lord Blackburn when Shannon catches his eye and he’s thoroughly captivated and determined to marry her. After all she owns a brewery, has a gift for brewing excellent beer, is a modern, independent business woman of intelligence which he appreciates and he does like beer. Never mind that she’s seven years older, it makes no difference to him. Collin is a man after my heart! He’s handsome, witty, charming and has no fear of hard work. As determined Shannon is not to marry, he is determined he’s going to marry her.
A lesser man would have given up but not Colin, oh no, he was going to break down her defenses one by one. This was such a fantastic story! I love Colin’s witty charm, his flirtatious ways, his admiration for Shannon and the way he appreciated her determination. The story is filled with humor, passion that just sizzles, tension, family dynamics and the stereotypical way people saw age differences. Together Colin and Shannon were in perfect balance.
The characters are so well written, fun, delightful and interesting as well as those you might wish to shake by the shoulders. The dialogue is excellent and filled with humor and wit. It’s so entertaining and engaging. The storyline was just wonderfully written. I enjoyed watching these to find their balance together and find out that they were better together than as one. I don’t know how Shannon could’ve resisted Colin so long. I also love that she was a forward thinking woman and not to be defined by her times. You don’t want to miss this book and certainly not this author!
Thank you so much Ms. Farmer for this absolutely charming romance!
“Earls Just Wanna Have Fun” it’s book #4 in the ‘That Wicked O’Shea Family’ series by Merry Farmer. You can definitely enjoy it if you haven’t read the other books in the series. If you’ve had the pleasure of reading those other books, it’s great that many of the other those characters play secondary roles in this story.
Lady Shannon O’Shea and her 3 sisters vowed to stay independent women and not marry. Well, all of them have instead found husbands. Although she’s glad they’re happy, she’s steadfast in her determination to focus all of her attention on expanding her brewery business. Lord Colin Crenshaw, the Earl of Stamford, arrives in Ireland to be the best man in his cousin’s, wedding. His cousin is marrying one of Shannon’s sisters. Colin is very unlike the vast majority of noblemen. He despises idleness and enjoys getting his hands dirty doing productive work. When he arrives in Ireland he meets Shannon and is immediately captivated by her, despite the disparity in their ages. It doesn’t bother him at all that she’s almost eight years his senior. Shannon doesn’t know quite what to make of the young lord. He’s genuine and kind, and wonderfully enthusiastic about her business endeavors. He doesn’t at all share the common belief that women lack the intelligence and ability for such things, and that it’s inappropriate for them to be involved in any business at all. He also doesn’t care at all about being younger than she is; he actually appreciates their age difference.
For a good portion of the book I felt badly for Colin because Shannon was so difficult. When we read examples of the type of opposition she routinely faces, it becomes much easier to understand the bad attitude she often exhibits. Colin is determined to encourage and support her, and is more than happy to take a submissive type role in their interactions. He is certainly not week, however. He is perfectly willing to stand up to her family, his parents, and society in his efforts to stand by Shannon when she is treated in really cringeworthy ways.
I liked the way the story unfolded. Ultimately, Colin and Shannon are both willing to stand up and own their mistakes. They’re willing to suffer criticism and censure in pursuit of love and success. I enjoyed this book very much and I’m looking forward to the next one.
Shannon, the eldest of the O'Shea girls, loves her life. She's been fascinated by the brewer's art since the sisters decided to craft their own beer as a lark. Now she supplies local pubs with fine quality ale that pleases many a tavern goer. That is, until she goes into Belfast to speak with pub owners who've been selling her beer, seeking to enlarge her business with a partnership. The reaction is clearly against joining her in such an endeavor as soon as the pub owners realize that this Shannon is a woman.
Angry and frustrated, Shannon leaves the pub to see her sister and her betrothed greeting an unknown man who appears to have just arrived via the ferry. Marching across the street, Shannon releases her frustration on her family, exasperation flowing across the three of them. It takes a moment for her outpouring of having been wronged to finish, then her eyes are drawn to the unknown man in the party. He's her soon to be brother's cousin, Colin, here to serve as best man.
The fact he's there puts her off, his good looks similar to his cousin's don't fail to catch her notice, but another man in the way is the last thing she needs on a day like today, or any other day, for that matter. Shannon has fought hard to hold onto her freedom, to follow her dream, and in her time, marriage almost always takes everything away from a woman.
Keeps you engaged from the first page to the last. The author paints verbal pictures that will have you laughing out loud at the stunts of her characters, just as "ahh" moments, that will make your tender feelings come alive. You won't want to miss Shannon's story!
Being the oldest and taking care of the other three sisters has given Shannon the ability to be herself in more ways than one. She has purpose, drive, and a good intelligence. She is a little sad because of them getting married but does not begrudge them happiness. She does begrudge them the pity they be slow in her. That she can do without.
Enter Lord Colin Crenshaw, Earl of Stamford future Marques of Wallingsford, young, full of life, easy with a quip, and jolly. He might be younger than Shannon but he enjoys life too much. He sees the fire, passion, and intelligence that everyone else forgets about in Shannon.
On first meeting Colin tells Shannon that she is his bride to be. He proposed marriage in such a way everyone thinks he is joking. But is he? As the two butt heads, they also see in the other what most don't. As this rascal tried all he can to convince Shannon he speaks the truth, will it be enough?
So I dare you to come along on this journey of discovery, partnership, and comedy. You will see a side of Shannon you might not have realized existed. Read as Colin learns from Shannon and how he finds himself. Great world building with familiar family, characters that have depth, and a story that has meaning in more ways than one.
This is the fourth installment of the fabulous That Wicked O'Shea Family series. I am so addicted to this series and have been having a blast reading about each of the sisters and this one also did not disappoint. All of Shannon's sisters have been married off and she can't help but feel a little betrayed by them. After all, they had promised each other they would keep their independence and wouldn't fall to such a fate. She, however, is determined to keep that vow and not let a man get in the way of her and her brewery business. Until she meets the handsome, fun, and irresistible Lord Colin Crenshaw. Colin doesn't care that Shannon is older than him, he is completely enamored with her and wants to marry her. Although at first thinking him shallow and frivolous, she soon starts to see more to him and begins to fall for him. But what of her vow? Will she break her own vow for the sake of love? Or will she let such a wonderful man slip away? This was such a fun and humorous romp, I absolutely adored it! There's not a one of Ms. Farmer's books that I have not enjoyed. I loved them all! And this delightful series has been such fun to read! I would absolutely recommend!
I received a complimentary advanced reader's copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Lady Shannon, the last of the O’Shea sisters to find a husband, runs a successful brewing business but finds that she comes across resistance when she tries to expand the business as she is not only female but a Lady to boot. She meets Colin, Lord Stamford, who is over from England for his cousin's wedding to one of her sisters. Much younger than Shannon he immediately declared that they will marry, which doesn't go down well with the strong, independent woman. After a sticky start they do begin to fall for each other. Colin initially comes across as a shallow, frivolous Lordling, however Shannon soon starts seeing that there is much more to him than this and he continues to see more in her. I really look forward to a new book in this series and yet again I'm not disappointed. This series manages to combine some definitely spicy moments with what is basically a sweet romance. I was worried that this series is coming to an end with the last sister finding a husband, however there is a teaser with a cousin meeting with a vicar's daughter..... I received an advance copy of this book from the author, however this did not influence my review of the book.
What to say, can't help but Chuckle at the pun intended by the title of the last O'Shea sisters novel.
Once again a wonderful revelation of the love and lives of this extraordinary family.
The moment I read the first of Merry's novels that mentioned Fergus O'Shea, I knew that I was to see him again in more stories, just didn't know that I was to meet an entire unorthodox Irish clan, how silly it is now to look back and think that the Leprechauns were not working in the background!!!
I'll not be goaded into revealing the secrets that you shall find, but I shall say that the show is not over until the fat lady sings!!! ;-)
Thank you Merry for the insight into history that you have made an art of in your novels, with a teasing smile, a heart singing of love, and often with tragedy that you use to help the characters come to life.
What's next? You have to read the book to find out!!!😉😉😉😉
This is book 4 in the "That Wicked O'Shea Family" series and I have to say I love the O'Shea family! This books picks up right where book three with Chloe and Deane ended. Lady Shannon O'Shea, the eldest of the family, has watched all her siblings marry well. She wants nothing to do with it and at the age of 30 is focused on making her brewery a success. Enter Deane's cousin Colin Crenshaw, the Earl of Stamford. Colin is hilarious and his antics had me laughing throughout the book.
Upon meeting Shannon, he immediately proposes marriage on one knee and she, quite honestly, wants nothing to do with this much younger man who doesn't seem to have a serious bone in his body. I loved watching these two come together.
The scenes with the entire family will have you smiling and the steamy sex scenes will have you fanning yourself. The O'Shea's are always a good time!

Colin Crenshaw, Earl of Stamford, has come to Ireland for the wedding of his cousin. He has no plans to return to England anytime soon. Upon his arrival, he meets Lady Shannon O’shea, the sister of his cousin’s bride. It’s love at first sight, for him. Shannon mistakenly thinks Colin is just another foolish, lazy aristocrat. They actually have much in common. Colin is quite the opposite of the privileged aristocrat. He is smart, isn’t afraid to work hard, and wants a life with purpose. Shannon is independent, intelligent, and stubborn. She is a great brewer and wants to find a partner so she can expand and increase production. Colin is more than willing to help her accomplish her goal. Theirs is an entertaining story with a great deal of humor and a bit of drama, and even a surprise or two. Attending a wedding has never been as chaotic, interesting, or fun. What else could we expect from the scandalous O’Shea family. A delightful story. I recommend it.
I received an ARC of this book via BookSprout. My review is voluntary.
I love the O’Shae sisters and it is always excIting to see what mischief they are going to get into next. As they are not your typical ladies, even though they are the daughters of an Earl, they are more interested in following their own paths even when they are in conflict with what is expected of them. Shannon is the last sister who is unwed at this time and she has no desire to marry as it will interfere with her beer making enterprise. Colin comes into her life like a tornado and refuses to take no, especially as he intends to marry her. This is a great story which will make you laugh at times as well as feel the pain that Shannon experiences when her feelings are disregarded. I absolutely loved this story and would highly recommend it as a great read along with the others in this series. I received a free copy of this book via Bookfunnel and are voluntarily leaving a review.
The O'Shea family is back with all the chaos and laughter in fourth book in That Wicked O'Shea Family series. This time it's Shannon, the oldest O'Shea sister, and Colin, a rascal and flirt, that will set off sparks between the two in Earls Just Wanna Have Full. Merry Farmer weaves a story from beginning to end with threads of strong emotions, uncertainties and angst. It's a beautifully written romance that brims with tension-building twists and turns, extremely interesting characters that weaves a story that will pull you into their emotional ride that keeps you involved until the very end, sizzling passions, witty banter and with one enjoyable plot that keeps you involved until the very end! With visit from characters who you found a special place in your heart for from the last novels gather for Chloe's wedding to her Duke.
Lady Shannon O’Shea is not your typical female and has no interest in a marriage arranged by her brother just to get her out of his way. She has her secret, scandalous beer brewing business to work and expand on. But events conspire and even the best intentions don’t always work out.
Lord Colin Crenshaw, Earl of Stamford, has arrived in his function as best man for his cousin, Lord Blackburn. He immediately notices the bride’s sister, Shannon, and he thinks they would be perfect together, if he can only convince her! Surprisingly, he is supportive of her running her beer business and is enthusiastic about it.
This is a delightful story about a strong-minded woman who desires to operate her own business in a time when women had only one function and were considered inept at anything else. But the broad-thinking Colin may just surprise her!
I have been eagerly waiting on Shannon’s story. So who is she paired up with? Colin, a man several years younger than her. Of course she wants nothing to do with him or does she? Anyway, unlike today’s standard which I see any man under 30 as way too immature, the men of Victorian times even though quite young have a lot more to them than what we see on the surface. At first, I thought, this is a nice story. Fun. But the further along the story goes, the more we see Colin as a person who stands up for people and knows his mind. More mature. Shannon certainly sees it and is amazed. Merry has a way of taking a story with a bit of fluff and turning it into something that honestly I teared up over.
What a hoot! Colin proposes to Shannon the moment he meets her. She thinks he’s young and annoying….but he is the best man and she is the maid of honor at her sister’s and his cousin’s wedding. He has to be one of the most adorable characters ever written. He’s funny, sweet, loyal, affectionate and determined. He’s the perfect foil for Shannon, who is intelligent, business savy, independent and stubborn. This story contains dynamic family issues, stereotype busting, hilarious dialogue and steam. AND the good news is that it is not the last book in the series! If you haven’t read this series, you are missing a real treat.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Shannon is independent and strong willed determined to make her way as a beer maker without marrying like her younger sisters. But no businessman will partner with her because she is a woman. Colin struck me a frivolous, silly, and showing his youth when he first meets Shannon, proposing marriage and then following her around. In his enthusiasm and zest for life he gets her into situations that could have gotten Shannon arrested and affect her business. He also tends to make assumptions about what she wants and I don’t blame her for feeling ashamed and angry. Shannon is stubborn and pushes Colin away and his attempts to woo her and help her business succeed. It was interesting to hear about how she made the beer and that it was business run by women in the middle ages.
This is my first read by this author; but definitely not my last. I was able to read this as a stand alone but the characters and storyline were so amusing I'm anxious to go back and read from the beginning of the series. Shannon & Colin, our h&H have totally different expectations of their lives. Shannon being business minded and Colin wanting marriage. For me this was a laugh out loud at certain points which i loved. Come along and travel with these two thru the obstacles and situations they must encounter in order to find their HEA.
I was gifted this book as an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Lady Shannon our last O'shea sister will not marry. She's perfectly happy being independent and trying to grow her beer brewing business. Yes, beer business. Then here comes the younger Lord Colin who's in the area for his cousin's wedding. He immediately falls for Lady Shannon. She's having none of it. Lord Colin is something else. He's handsome, sexy, fun and caring. He's determined to win her over. When he begins to chastise the O'Shea Family and potential business partners who won't do busy with her because she's a woman, Shannon starts to fall for our young Colin. Can she put aside her thoughts of what her independence thoughts to see there is room for Colin? Can Colin overcome his struggles with a not so great parents and his title? You must read this fantastic series.
This is amusing, romantic and dramatic. When Colin first sees Shannon, he introduces himself by asking her to marry him. Shannon completely ignores him. Colin discovers she's an accomplished brewer who wants only to expand and run her business, not get married. Shannon finds that Colin isn't the usual Earl, he actually likes to work. They don't see eye to eye on much at first, but he becomes her biggest champion. Colin might be much younger than her, but they're perfect for each other. I really liked the storyline, and Colin is such an adorable man. This belongs on every TBR list. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
Thirty-year old Shannon is feeling betrayed when her three younger sisters leave their brewing business to get married. Shannon has plans to grow the business, but not a single pub owner will do business with a female, much less so with a Lady.
Twenty-two year old Lord Colin Crenshaw had just arrived to be best man at his cousin's wedding to Shannon's youngest sister. He is totally smitten with Shannon. He is mature beyond his years and ready to settle down in a marriage to the fiery red-head and proposes on the spot.
But the older woman is not a fan of the "whelp" and it takes a lot of machinations to win her, and her family, over.
Very fun and entertaining read, loved the story line and all the laughing and shenanigan's with the O' Shea Family, gotta love them... But the most important part is I love this book due to the fact that age doesn't matter when your in love and position and title doesn't mean nothing without that one special person in your life. Women had it rough back then just trying to live their dreams and doing what they want to do. Also Colin's dad is an Arse, very spicy read and a happy ever after ending... This Book was Reviewed by a Book Loving Vixen..
Bless Amazon and their book suggestions. How Merry Farmer and her delicious historical romance books just made it on my radar is a mystery.
These books are an absolute delight. From their quirky titles to their adorable covers, they will reel you in and keep you, until you’ve devoured all the words.
Earls Just Want to Have Fun is a reverse age gap (she’s 30 he’s 22), InstaLove, relationship of convenience, kind of sort of enemies to lovers, romance read. I loved it and I look forward to reading through Merry’s backlist of books as ASAP as possible.
