After some traumatic experiences, Komugi Kusunoki transferred from the city to start a new life in rural Hokkaido. But on her first day of school, the school heartthrob Yu Ogami blurts out, “You smell good!” Despite the hijinks, Komugi tries to adjust to her new school, but it’s not long before she stumbles across Yu dozing off under a tree. When she attempts to wake him up, he transformed…into a wolf?! It turns out that Yu is one of many other eccentric boys in her class year–and she’s the only one who knows their secret…!
It was so cute! I loved it. I has such a strong Fruit basket vibes and it's one of my all time faves. I am glad I picked up this manga in omnibus editions, as one volume is just too short. lol I love the found family kid of vibe all the guys have, how different all of them are. I can not wait to jump on to the next volume.
I feel like I'm the 'Wolf-Boy' because my tail is just wagging on fast-forward. I want more! I enjoyed Fruits Basket and this is right along that beautiful and engaging storyline.
I highly recommend this read for any fans of Fruits Basket. A few basic elements of the plot are very similar, but this is definitely a unique story with its own charm. I like that the boys choose when they transform, instead of all being incapable of touching the protagonist. The character interactions are incredibly cute and the artwork is lovely. Komugi is a very sweet protagonist who clearly wishes only the best for her friends and family. I’m looking forward to learning more about her and seeing how this story continues in the second omnibus.
My review may be redundant, but this story is SO CUTE. It definitely gives strong Fruits Basket (and a little bit of Wolf Children) vibes. It is a fun, light story with classic adorable shojo art. As a bonus it is a short series making it easy and affordable to collect (especially in these omnibus forms).
I’m just going to attach some notes I made to myself.

Ogami-kun is like a breath of fresh air flowing in and out of heavy lungs. I’m certain that Komugi feels similarly. Having to bear a heavy heart for so long, Komugi is comforted by Ogami’s presence and influence in her life.

I had thought this story would be a love story between Ogami Yu and Komugi, but after the first five chapters, I’m convinced things run deeper than that. This story isn’t about romance, but it is romantic, and it does involve several different kinds of love. I do feel Komugi will end up with someone by the end of it, but it’s a mystery as to who. Either way, she’s breaking down the walls of these boys one by one in meaningful ways.

This manga continuously reaches new depths as it develops. I can see why the English publishing team likened it to Fruits Basket; it has many parallels to it, but only in the way in which it is written and some of the dynamics. The characters themselves and the experiences they’re going through are very unique to this story, though, also real and raw enough for perhaps more mature readers to recognize and wholly understand. It seems to me that two of the boys are falling for Komugi, though I don’t believe either one of them realizes it yet. Ogami most definitely is experiencing jealousy, and Rin is changing in ways he had never fathomed, all because of this girl he’s continuously attracted to. As for Komugi, she might be changing these boys’ lives forever in perhaps the best kinds of ways, but is this what’s best for her? I wonder if they’ll touch on that later, because so far, she’s only stepped into what Rin calls martyrdom. I think she cares for all of them and loves Ogami, but she needs to understand what self love looks like too. Regardless, I’m happy to see she’s finding a place for herself after what had happened to her in the past. I can’t wait to read more. This manga is severely underrated.

This made me feel a "pang" on the top of my stomach 😖 I want to start the next book right now.
Now let review the story and art,
I love that this is not a silly lovey-dovey story. Our MC Komugi has past trauma from been bullied at her previous school in Tokyo so when her mother has to be relocated due to her job and she has to be sent to her father's, she is excited that she can start again in a new school.
Komugi is been cautious but still gets the attention of one of the most popular guys in the school, trying to avoid him she ends up befriending him and eventually discovers he is a shapeshifter wolf.
Yu Ogami is part of the four most popular guys in school, but he has a secret he is a wolf. He is friendly, kind and handsome but somehow unreachable.
You can guess what happens after, this is a Shojo manga after all but I love how the story is well balanced on this two volumes we see feelings starting to boom pretty early but when in other cases it will bother me, somehow I don't care. Komugi is kind and selfless but pretty cleaver.
Now the art style is one of my favorite things about a Manga and you can definitely see that this is he debuting story, the art changes from the first pages of the volume one till the end of volume two. Faces become more expressive and bodies less stiff with better angles.
I also feel that at first glance you might think Yoko Nogiri's art is not distinguishable, but I read the 1st volume of Love in Focus a while back and I was able to associate this book and her new manga recently.
Fans of Fruits Basket, have I got the series for you!
I'm liking this one a lot. It's fast paced, there's a good dose of fantasy, a female lead who is likeable and somewhat strong willed, and it is not clear who she is going to end up with. I'm not kidding when I say this series most definitely has been inspired by Fruits Basket in many ways. Our female lead accidentally befriends a group of mysterious young men at her school, who turn out to be ayakashi, or animals who can shapeshift into humans, and for some reason they cannot take her memories away like they can with other humans. Therefore, she becomes friends with them, and is privy to the secrets of their world. She ends up developing feelings for one of them, only to be rejected because he has trauma's of his own, while another guy from the group ends up comforting her when she is down, despite having a prickly personality. Ring any bells?
Despite the obvious influences, I enjoyed these first couple of volumes a lot. Also, this is no typical slow developing shojo manga, so if you are into faster paced manga series, then you will probably enjoy this one.
I picked up this delightful manga (and the next volume) during my last trip to the bookstore, and I'm so glad I did.
If you're looking for a fantasy manga with a sweeter romance, That Wolf-Boy is Mine is an excellent choice. I had so much fun getting to know the characters and found myself reading the book cover to cover in one day. Each of the boys in this story has their own appeal, but Komugi only has eyes for Yu. Despite the fact he tries to keep an emotional distance between them, the tension builds as Komugi struggles to only be his friend.
There was so much happening with Komugi, Yu, the other boys, and their Sensei. I was so disappointed when it ended and immediately started the second omnibus. And then the most horrific thing ever happened -- I ran out of story! Yes, I binge-read both in one day and wanted more.
My fingers are crossed we'll see more of Yu and Komugi's friends and they'll each get their own tale. I'm off to find more manga by this author because I simply can't get enough!
This Wolf-Boy is attractive, mysterious, and playful. Burned by his past he has closed off emotionally to humans, but does he want a connection? Who is he, and the other boys? Well, there are animals of course. Exceptional ability to transform to human side with a touch of hypnosis- that didn't work on new student Komugi Kusunoki. She now lives with her dad, who is divorced from his ex-wife. Now she included in the group, or more watched over, to keep a secret?
I love the animal forms the boys take. I love the way it is incorporated. I love the way the action takes place. Dull moments don't happen but maybe a quick breather before for a lite digestion. Yet all in all very sweet and wholesome.
If there is anyone who is looking to start reading manga (or collecting it as well) this is a great place to start! This is such a cute and fast paced romance and I loved reading every second of it! The best part is that this series only has four volumes (two omnibus volumes), hence why it’s a great series to start with. I absolutely adore the boys, they are so sweet. Also Komugi is literally the sweetest and I love her the most. I am not joking when I say I will be immediately reading omnibus vol 2 after I finish this review. Also if you’re a fan of Fruits Basket, this series is quite similar, I just think it’s a bit fluffier than Fruits Basket. ;)
The manga that got me back into romance manga. An absolutely beautiful and classic love story with all of my favorite tropes. I was a little embarrassed by how quickly I read and immediately ran back to the store to buy vol. 2. This is easily my favorite manga I’ve ever read. It remained unpredictable yet also so familiar and nostalgic, there wasn’t one point where I knew what was going to happen next. The characterization of the boys was so refreshing and well done. I found myself attached to every one of them, even more so as the story went on.
I read volume 1 before, but I found the omnibuses so I’m doing a re-read and my opinion is about the same: Fans of fruits basket would definitely love this. A wolf, a fox, a tanuki and a two-tailed cat are living amongst humans and a high school girl accidentally discovers their secret and - in typical shojo romance format - falls for one of them.
Good story, not too cringy - I hope to see it pick up even more in the second omnibus so I can leave a glowing overall review, but I guess we’ll see!
The facial expressions were sooo good! Best I’ve ever seen. Love the MC, she was perfectly reasonable and thank goodness for that ending- would’ve went a whole different direction with a different author. I’ve been wanting to read a cliche high-school supernatural manga for ages and this really hit the spot. I do wish some scenes flowed a lot better, but I’m happy to overlook it because I seriously love these characters (especially Rin).
This follows Komugi as she enters a new school where she meets several different students who are animals that can turn into humans. That wasn’t a great synopsis on my part but it’s basically what it is 😅 it’s compared to fruits basket and I think that’s a good comparison. This seems more concise with less build up and development in my opinion, but this is a still an enjoyable and easy read.
My brain immediately went to twilight. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Idk just Komugi finding out the popular boys at school are not human and the whole “we can’t erase her mind” dilemma. Also felt Yū being a lil red flag at the end of volume 1 and 2. Simple and easy read. I picked up the omnibus used at a 2nd and charles and now going to finish reading the rest online.
Cute. Not as similar to fruits basket as BookTok would like you to think. I know that I will be disappointed by the end of this series - I am not a fan of the main pairing, and yet that is the way it will be because this girl is dumb...
i loved this<3 the main character *chefs kiss* i loved the setting, a rural town by the mountain, and the way the animals work. also the boys are v cute animals. it’s very good so far, notably i haven’t been annoyed with any characters decisions and i don’t even hate the love triangle;)
It’s so cute! I can’t wait to read the second omnibus! Honestly I started reading it because people that like Fruits Basket like it, and I can totally see why! It does make me want to re-read fruits basket too
Komugi is a fun protagonist to enjoy the story through. Out of the foursome, I enjoy Rin the most (I love his snarky attitude), and Yū is fun too. The ending of volume two had my heart pounding for what Rin is gonna do. Is he gonna be a supporter of Komugi's?
A really cute series, with a lot of potential. I could really see how different elements could be further explored and the story could be expanded but it wrapped up way too quickly! My biggest complaint was that there just wasn’t enough.
This gave off Fruits Basket vibes with the animal boys, but it has been a wild and fun ride that I'm totally enjoying! She is trying so hard to come to terms with their secret and her newfound love. It's a tough road to walk. Kinda interested in how the others will fall...
