The conflict between the shadow warriors escalates when Kullos begins building an army.
My mother, Catriona, is investigating the disappearance of a friend when my father, Daelen, shows up. Driven by her thirst for knowledge, she seeks to understand the shadow warrior and persuades him to accept her help.
Daelen has stood aloof from the world, ignoring mortals for centuries, but when a time traveller leads him to Catriona, he is intrigued and takes her to another world for training.
But who is training whom? Daelen wants her to be more powerful because power is all he knows. Cat wants him to think before he acts because she knows power isn’t everything.
When Cat’s old friend returns, now the White Assassin, she must turn peacemaker and help them all work together. Otherwise, she and Cat will die, and the war will be lost before it has begun.
This is the story of The Salvation of Tempestria, as told by an immortal girl from the future using an Illegal Time Intervention to save the world…or possibly end it.
For anyone interested in my earlier work, the Majaos Trilogy may also be found at that same site. Majaos trilogy.
While studying for my B.Sc. in Chemistry, I met a friend who introduced me to fantasy fiction, especially TSR, AD&D type books. Despite all I've read since, that remains my frame of reference for the fantasy genre.
My Salvation of Tempestria of Series, beginning with Shifting Stars is rooted in a updated version of that kind of fantasy world. But it's just 1 world within a wider sci-fi/fantasy universe and the story is told by an immortal girl from the future with a plan to save the world...or possibly end it.
Living in the seaside town of Blackpool, UK, enjoy long walks and theme parks in the summer, and theatre shows in the winter.
Mandalee groaned. "Why are things always so complicated with you around, Cat?" "The world's a compicated place," she replied with a shrug. "I just embrace that..."
Gathering Storm was a fun ride! It continues Cat's adventures and quest for knowledge along with a few new characters (I was excited to finally meet Daelen!).
I found Gathering Storm better written and better paced than the first one. I certainly enjoyed reading it more than Shifting Stars. Cat, Daelen and Mandalee make a great trio!
We also get to see more of the universe that Cat is a part of. It seemed like the sci-fi part of it is "unlocked" in this book.
That fight at the end! One of my favourite parts of the book. The banter between Cat and Daelen was also fun.
Looking forward to next book after all the built up that was this book for the fight against Kullos.(Also the cover of the next book has one of my favourite character!😍 Missed her in this one).
Details: Gathering Storm book two in The Salvation of Tempestria series, Published April 2021
Plot: The conflict between the shadow warriors escalates when Kullos begins building an army. Driven by Catriona’s (Cat) thirst for knowledge, she seeks to understand the shadow warrior and persuades Daelen to accept her help.
Thoughts: Like the last story, this one is told through the eyes of Cat and Daelen’s daughter. The introduction of Daelen was a great addition, and I enjoyed the fluidity of how this book was written, as a continuous story rather than bits and pieces. Praise: I loved the budding relationship between Cat and Daelen, and I look forward to seeing how it progresses. I enjoyed the parts where Dreya (my favorite character from book one) was discussed. I found the combination of Cat, Daelen, and Mandalee to be a great balance. Cons:Pacing was a little slow at times, and as a fan of paranormal/fantasy romance, I wanted to scream at Cat a few times where Daelen was concerned. Although, in all fairness, I had to remind myself this was a Sci-fi story, and it definitely hits the mark there.
Recommend: Sci-fi fans who enjoy magic, time travel, and a pending war to come. In my opinion, there are no triggers and no spice. Even though I am not a huge sci-fi fan, I have enjoyed the series and plan to continue on to the next book in the series: Shadows Fallen, as the battle continues to unfold.
As much as I loved the first book, second book has me more into the story. With then entry of our Super Warrior, we have moved into the more interesting part of the whole narration. And boy oh boy... Am I even more excited to read more into The Tempestria. The tension between Cat and Dalean I was hooked and it was very fun.
And the sci-fi part of the book is more prominent in this part. And with the introduction of technology in the Tempestria world, the magic and science part blended in for the reader making it in true essence a magical sci-fi book.
Unlike the first book (Shifting Stars), it was a continuous storyline instead of the collection of stories told by ARSHES. The pace was slow compared to the first book, but the continuity of events kept the reading fluid.
The cover is absolutely amazing with Mandalee in the center. I just can't wait to get further into the adventures of Catriona and her friends.
Gary Stringer lets us dive deeper into a world of magic, sci fi, and time meddling with Gathering Storm! When investigating the disappearance of a friend, Catriona comes across the shadow warrior Daelen. Cat convinces Daelen to take her to another world to train her, but both have secret motivations that lead them to manipulate one another in a sort of tense dance. This is made more complicated as a war forces them to form a tenuous partnership. In the first book, the story is delivered through time-tampering Arshes in a series of short stories (all covered with Arshes fun commentary). This one takes a deeper and more focused look at Cat and Daelen, which was a lot of fun since their dynamic and tension between them was very engrossing! I also loved getting to dive deeper into the series’ interesting lore and peel back a bit of the mystery with the temporal meddling. If you’re looking for a good time travel story set in a sci fi/fantasy world populated with great characters and lore, definitely come prepare for battle with Gathering Storm!
The author does a stellar job of pulling readers in with captivating world-building and well-crafted settings. As Catriona and Daelen move through forests, castles, and even interdimensional planes, every scene is unique and exciting. Magic threads through the storyline and adds a brilliant sense of urgency and wonder to their journey. Overall, Gary Stringer crafts characters that jump off the pages. The bond between Catriona and Daelen is complex, yet it unfolds naturally. Kullos's fascinating character presents threats that drive the action sequences forward. Fans of epic fantasy will love this story because the plot includes intrigue, tension, and high-stakes moments that will keep you glued to your seat. I'm a big fan of how key elements like time manipulation and interdimensional travel factor into the equation and add unpredictability to the story. Gathering Storm: The Salvation of Tempestria is a fantasy I won't ever forget. Highly recommended.
I enjoyed the first book in the Salvation of Tempestria series and this one was just as entertaining. Book two, Gathering Storm by Gary Stringer, continues the backstory of the clever half-faery, Catriona and shadow warrior, Daelen StormTiger as told to us by their daughter, Arshes Megane, an immortal druid (sorry, a bit of a spoiler alert). I enjoyed Cat and Daelen’s quirky first meeting as you can feel the chemistry building. Then the evolution of their relationship and the seemingly symbiotic relationship between them and their special abilities as they try to discover what is wrong in Tempestria. Author Stringer ups the ante in this second fantastical book with more magic, more science and more cosmic time travel. Recommended for fans of fantasy/scifi stories.
This is an excellent middle book to its trilogy. Fun story. I enjoyed how the characters interacted and formed a proper team. Neat magic and a cool world. It will be worth it to read book 3 to see how things turn out.
This book needs its 1 and 3 to form a complete tale. That’s normal for a series. What I didn’t like was how the narrator, Cat’s daughter, constantly interrupted the story. This is a story told at me, which made me not want to keep reading. I prefer fantasy that is experienced and felt, not narrated.
