This island isn’t big enough for all the secrets buried here.
Davis showed up one night and took me away from everything I’ve ever known. He left me on the doorstep of a stranger and walked away without a goodbye. Carving out a piece of me, as he did.
Ten years later, I’m ready to claim my family home on the small island of Wild Haven. It holds the keys to my past and the promises of my future. I don’t expect to find him here.
Davis wants me to leave, but we can’t stay away from one another. There’s a pull that keeps crashing us together. It’s been there since the first time we met.
There’s more to this little island than friendly locals obsessed with Fae lore. Darkness lurks in the history here, and my family's past is woven into its beginnings. Davis says I’m a fool for coming here, but I know this is where I belong.
This is the first place that’s felt like home, but I’m learning there’s a reason my mother left. I only hope my decision doesn’t come back to bite me.
Fans of K.F. Breene, Linsey Hall, Jaymin Eve, and all things paranormal romance won’t want to miss this newest series by Lizzy Prince.
Dark of Winter is book 1 of 4 in the Wild Haven series. Each book will follow a different couple, but the story will continue through all 4 books. This is a full-length paranormal romance meant for 18+.
I’ve not read any of Lizzy Prince’s books before, but after having the please of being an Arc for this book I’ll be buying her whole back catalogue. The book is well written with strong characters, lots of good bits and bits that have you on the edge of your seat. I didn’t want to put it down. It’s the perfect set up to the first in a series but also enough of a complete story as well. I’m really looking forward to the release of the next one so I can continue the story.
The book is set on a small island where magic may just be real or is it just stories of the Fae to keep the tourists intrigued. It started with a very captivating chapter one which was actually set in the past from Miri’s point of view although you don’t learn this until chapter 2 when you see the same situation almost from Davis’ point of view. The book does chop and change between the two but this really helps you understand each of the characters and allows their development to be as deep as it is.
Davis and Miri the connection that they have is it real or just in their heads. Davis comes to answer the call he gets from Miris mom and the second that they meet and see each other he knows it’s something special but he is just there to keep her safe. He takes her to someone who can do just that and takes off himself. Will they ever see each other again?? Where their feelings real?? Where they one sided feelings or were they both feeling the same things at the same times??? If you want to know how there story does and trust me you do you will get this book. Can’t wait for the next one to find out more of the story.
I really enjoyed this book. This is my first one from this author and I kinda love the way her mind works. You got a villain you really want to see get what’s coming to him, and a broody, sexy man to salivate over, plus a heroine that won’t take nonsense from anyone! Basically, it’s everything a girl needs in her reading material.
I do feel like the relationship between Davis and Miri was a little odd at the beginning, their I-hate-you-but-I’m-super-in-love-with-you thing was good, but I felt like I didn’t really SEE why they were in the I-hate-you category. They talked about it, but it felt like there wasn’t enough history between them shown more tangibly. Then again, I don’t think I care! Because I liked the story and the characters, and Davis is hot AF. Now… I need the next one. Directly. If that can be arranged.
Also, good tropes in here people! Enemies-to-Lovers which straddles InstaLove (hehe, straddles—something gets straddled that’s for sure), some Chosen One vibes, Bad Boy, Sassy Heroine. Steamy/spicy. All the good things!
Dark of Winter is the first book of a promising new series by Lizzy Prince. The whole story revolves around Fairy lore, but it's not your usual myths and legends we are all used to, making it a lot more original. I personally love the way it was brought and how it paints a rich background to the story. Each book will be about a different couple, the first one being Davis and Miri. Those two are like magnets! You never know if they will crash into each other or clash away. It is relatively slow burn except for a few kisses here and there until about 80% of the book, but when the action starts, it doesn't stop. As we follow Miri and Davis' story, secrets are revealed and tensions flight high. We also get to know the other characters, protoganists of the future books in the series, and they are really great. I can't wait to get started on the other books :)
Enjoyable story with plot, action and heat with a main couple with lots of chemistry that takes a while to cook but when it does, wow. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Dark of Winter, I loved the story of Davis and Miri!!! I can't wait to read the other stories after this one. The story was a joy to read and it kept me on the edge. I admit I was frustrated with Davis and Miri for awhile there because they kept fighting their emotions but when they came together: it was magical and awesome!!!
this isn’t my normal read - when i read PNR i tend to want something darker, but this one really surprised me. there are dark themes such as child abuse, death of multiple parents, alcoholism, ect. but the tone doesn’t feel very dark. super fun, sexy, and intriguing read. also, really loved the vibes we get from the characters living on this small cozy, mysterious island. super excited for the rest of this series and really surprised this series isn’t more popular.
I read the blurb, and got excited to read this. It didn't disappoint! Excellent story, really well written with some good twists and turns. The characters are described brilliantly with some cute quirks. Can't wait to see what the next book has instore! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Dark of Winter is an intriguing supernatural tale. It's unusual with compelling characters. It's well written and keeps the reader guessing.
Miri is always on the move with her mother. Almost like they are running away from danger, until the night that her mother wakes her up and prompts her to leave in a hurry. Davis has the job of ensuring her escape. Reluctantly, she leaves her mother. There is an attraction between her and Davis, but he is very alloof and appears to be unfriendly.
Fast forward, ten years later, Miri inherits a house on a small island where everyone is friendly. One night whilst she is having a drink with her new found friends, Davis makes an entrance and is non too happy to see her again. The attraction is still there, but they fight it. Will they eventually stop fighting when they find the cause of said attraction?
It's a good concept with well written characters. The island is magical and surrounded in mysteries. Miri's new friends are friendsof Davis too. She discovers a lot about herself and shockingly, her estranged father. The whole story is full of mystery, some of which are slowly uncovered. When Davis and Miri stop fighting this attraction, they find a piece of themselves that has been missing. It looks like their journey isn't quite complete and that more will be revealed in the story of Archer and Lena, two of their friends. It's a captivating read.
When reading on Kindle, there is a formatting issue which doesn't seem to be the case with the app. I managed to resolve the issue by changing the view to landscape on my Kindle. The book itself is a great read as long as you are aware that there is a format problem when reading on Kindle ereader. It doesn't reflect on the content or the writing style in any way whatsoever. Well worth reading as long as you are aware of this issue.
I received an eARC from BookSirens and the views expressed are my personal opinion.
This Is A Really Good Read!😳🙈💘🔥💥 I Was Gripped!🌟 (Read Using Kindle Unlimited) Dark of Winter (Wild Haven #1)
I have had this book from KU in my library since September '21, boy do I regret waiting that long to read it!🙈 It's about a group of 25+ year olds who all live on an island called Wild Haven. They've all grown up with awful fathers and seem to have either been abandoned by their Mothers or they died!😳 Then Miri Wild cormes, she's never lived or even stepped foot on this piece of land before but it feels like home to her, and this group of people seem like long lost friends! Davis is the only one she's met before. He has had her enthralled for a decade and she spent only one day, the worst of her life, in his company!😍
I loved everything about this book. The world building, characters & where the storyline is heading, has me gripped! There is also deep sense of foreboding that comes across so well, it gives you shivers.😟 It's slight downfall comes from it needing a brush up with with either a proofreader or arc team members that can pick up some errors.😕 It certainly didn't ruin my flow, thankfully, but when the errors were there they were noticeable, which is such a shame. Please don't let that put you off of this book, it really is worth the read and I've even downloaded book #2 before writing my review so I can jump straight back into the story!🌟
Tropes: fae romance, hidden identity, soulmates, PNR, dark fantasy
Review: Welcome to Wild Haven where magic is deadly and family secrets are buried in the dark. The book is a dual POV romance where the couple has a hidden past the blows up when the meet again as adults.
Miri and Davis are an INSANE couple who have INTENSE attraction and will make you want more. Both are perfect for one another and although Davis is a grump, he loves Miri. The main arc in this series is the topic of magic, the Fae and completing the magical bonds between each couple. This book sets off the conflict since Miri is new to the island and for the most part in the dark about her history to it and her mother’s past regarding magic.
I loved Davis. His dark, corroding attitude will make you swoon. I loved how he tries to avoid Miri but ends up doing everything she needs in secret. I also really loved Miri since her attitude and stubbornness complete the group right off the bat. I felt like her uniqueness and smarts made the other 5 people stronger and more open.
This book is a slower burn romance and after about halfway it speeds up to HAWT levels of spice. I really loved this couple’s relationship and bonds since both felt the pulls of being soulmates but also just had trust in one another.
Rating: 9.5/10, dark and broody with a wist of magic!
I voluntarily reviewed "DARK OF WINTER" WOW!!! What a rollercoaster ride full of mystery, secrets, steam, intrigue, twists that keeps you turning the pages. Davis comes when Miris's mother calls him to take her to someplace safe when he meets her he's immediately drawn to her theres something special about her but he's only there to keep her safe. Davis drops Miris off with a stanger & leaves will they see each other again, there was a connection between them, will they act on it they do some but its slow, when the action comes its non stop. I definitely recommend to get this story Davis & Miris takes you on quite the journey secrets get revealed, tensions are high, they keep fighting their emotions for one another but when their together it so magical you can't get enough, it's a must you you surely don't want to miss . I'm so looking forward to the next book. GREAT START TO THIS NEW DARK MYSTERIOUS ROMANCE I LOVED IT 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤
Checked out with Kindle Unlimited in July 2022. I chose this urban fantasy based in Maine as my first series by Lizzy Prince. I’m grateful I gave this lower review count a try, because I fell in love with Prince’s writing style and the Fae story that gripped the area and characters. Each book in this series follows a different couple from the island. Miri Wild is the female main character who returns to her family's ancestral home within Wild Haven. Davis is our male main character who grew up on the island. I enjoyed watching them find each other and fight off the incoming darkness together. I'm obsessively hooked so I'll likely be adding many of her books to my permanent collection. (4/5 rating)
I am on book 4 and realized I haven't even been here for book one yet. Ok, I admit, I buy books based on the covers and all of L.P.'s novels are gorgeous. Inside? Lies a beautiful world that develops and evolves as teenage Miri is taken there. I am looking forward to this series as Miri and Davis are in this novel and we will meet new love birds next time. Being on book 4 now, I can see how the books CAN BE enjoyed as stand alone novels but I recommend them in order to learn fully about Wild Haven Island. There is just enough steam in the romance, great world-building, back story, and family drama.
I was given an ARC of the next book in this series, Shadow of Spring. I knew I couldn’t come into the story ‘halfway’ even if they are technically standalones , so I had to read this one first. I am SOOO glad I did…
This book and series so far is amazing. It’s hot where it needs to be, it grabs your heart and feelings, and a bit of mystery we all love. The family of characters have been through a lot, but nothing compared to what is going.
I suggest you read this soon and then move on to Shadow of Spring that just came out this week!!!
Miri is force to go live with a woman she does not even know for the rest of her teenage years. When she turns 25 she finds out that she owns a house on the island where her mother used to live. When she goes back there she realizes that is where her mother was running from and she finds the person that took her away from her mother. Davis flip-flops between trying to get her to leave the island and trying to get into her pants. I also like the new friends that she’s made it and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Small-town (small island?) Check. A band of magic users? Check. Badass heroine? Check. Broody hero? Check!
I love Lizzy Prince's books, and this is no exception. The scenery, friendships, and magic are always fun and unique. The start of this series is FAST, H O T, and intriguing as hell. On this small island full of mystery and Fae lore, magic is awakening. Fated mates are being drawn together. Broody men are leaning in to their softer sides, and badass women are digging up their roots. Flew through this book and cannot wait for more!
This story has everything you need: a sizzling pull between the main characters, a villain to hate and a lot of unanswered questions. I enjoyed this book, but there were some ups and downs in the plot that sometimes wouldn’t keep my interest and I would push through. Other times I couldn’t put it down. Overall a good read that leaves you wanting the next book to continue the story.
I loved this story. A group of friends, a mystery, old pagan festivals, or is it magical rituals? All of this with an undercurrent of past domestic abuse, past childhood abuse, we're witnessing the cycle breakers. A battle of Good vs Evil, in a way. Lizzy Prince's writing takes you in and doesn't let you go. I can't wait to read the next one in the series!
I'm not usually into the fated mates/soul mate kind of thing, but I did really this one. I enjoyed the mystery of it, with no one knowing all the information about the magic they possessed. The main character was likeable and made me laugh, and didn't put up with the main love interests's crap, which I liked. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Wow! Talk about an adrenaline rush! I felt the fear, anger, sadness and love that the characters felt. I love all but the villains of course, but even they have their part to play.
