She’s a young police officer with a great new job in picturesque Savannah, Georgia, until she makes one wrong move, stopping a local politician and issuing him a citation. Her chief had no choice but to take her off the streets and put her in the basement, scanning old case files.
Her first big cold case sounds fishy. One name, one lost alibi, is blacked out on the police report. Never contacted, never questioned, never found…
As she starts to ask questions, she can’t help but feel someone is out to stop her. Will she expose the truth and solve a decades old murder before the clock runs out?
Amber is on a mission, but as the mystery unravels, she makes a discovery that will rock her understanding of the case ... and her life.
Her Lost Alibi is the origin story of Amber Cross, a Savannah GA police detective relegated to preforming menial duties because of enforcing the law. Her assignment to go through old case records leads to her involvement into a case that wasn’t on anyone’s radar. It also leads to hire introduction to a memorable character – Minter Tweed. Along with being filled with action, this story builds a very full background for Amber Cross. If you are a fan David Berens stories, this is another series to follow, if you haven’t been exposed to David’s stories, this is a perfect story to start with.
Amber Cross is nothing if not tenatious. She is alike to a human bloodhound - fantastic if you are on the right side of the law and she is trying to help you, not so great if you are on the wrong side of the tracks and she is hunting you.
The way she was treated by her all male collegues for making a rookie mistake was abysmal but also led her to her mentor and saviour. I look forward to reading more of Amber Cross in the future.
Her Lost Alibi is one of the books in the Dead Silent Box Set purchased on 19.01.2021
Amber Cross was new at the Savannah police department. Being a woman she had to earn her respect, but she made a big mistake. She gave a ticket to a protected senator and she was sent to the basement to work on old files. From there her career headed to the top. Very good book and look forward to reading the next in the series.
Amber Cross is a young and inexperienced police officer with the Savannah Police Department and has not exactly experienced a meteoric rise in her career trajectory. There was a small glitch early on and, as a result, she has been given only the most insignificant and menial tasks. The insufferable tedium comes to an abrupt conclusion with her latest assignment. She is to summarize the events of an old murder case and compose a report reflecting how the department did, indeed, follow protocol and dispatch the case in an appropriate manner. This seemingly simple assignment catapults Amber into a whirlwind of events that challenge her to forge her investigative skills while disinterring the recollections of a past trauma long buried in the depths of her psyche. What follows is a fast-paced thriller with memorable characters, plenty of suspense and drama, and all the ingredients needed for a great foundation on which to base a new series. I read this book as part of a box set released earlier this year and thought it was so good I just had to leave a review for it now that it is out as an individual first in series book. I am looking forward to seeing where the authors decide to take Amber and her newfound mentor.
