The Crow Calls Volumes are a series of poetry compilations inspired by Quill & Crow Publishing House’s poetry prompts. These prompts were intended to bring poets together from around the globe in the hopes of sharing a mutual love of things dark and macabre. This is the second volume.
Featuring poetry by Brad Acevedo, David Andrews, William Bartlett, Sophie Brookes, Anna Burns, Marie Casey, Spyder Collins, Danni Marie Connelly, PS Conway, Andrew Doughty, Jordan Alyssa Duncan, Danielle Edwards, A.L. Garcia, Ayshen Irfan, Mel Gutier, Laken Honeycutt, Inkdom, Ginger Lee, Marvin Lee, J. Lewis, Moxie Malone, Lucas Mann, Andi Marchal, David Middleham, Erin Quill, Cassandra L. Thompson, Fizzy Twizler, JayLynn Watkins, Melanie Whitlock, and K.R. Wieland.
Gothic horror lover Cassandra L. Thompson has been creating stories since she got her grubby little hands around a pen. When she is not busy managing a house full of feral children (human and canine) with her beloved husband, you can find her wandering around cemeteries, taking pictures of abandoned things, or in the library researching her latest obsession. She has a B.A. in History and an MLIS, but she ignores her degrees to focus on writing and running Quill & Crow Publishing House, both of which require copious amounts of coffee and Crows.
Horror in poetry is always fascinating to read. Combine that with romance and you always have a winner. Who can resist the seduction of a vampire as she lures her prey. What can break the heart more than a love now buried beneath the earth as a lover weeps over the grave. There is no lonelier feeling than one waiting, hoping, for the ghost of a lost love to appear, wanting a sign that one day they will be reunited.
All of this and more is within the pages of "Crow Calls: Volume Two". The group of poets gathered in this collection do an outstanding job with the theme of romantic horror. The poetry is as varied in style as the ideas of each poet. These poems will give you a chill as well as a flutter to your heart
Fabulous! As a poet myself, I knew I had to delve into this volume of poetry, and it did not disappoint! There were so many unique voices and I sincerely enjoyed reading all of them. I definitely look forward to future volumes!
Volume Two of such an amazing collection of dark poems. the content is original and unique, profound and beautiful, eerie and romantic with a gothic emotion. Very much like Edgar Allan Poe's work but modern and from many new voices. Real people with Real powerful emotion. Highly Recommend.
NOTE: this review is for both Crow Calls Vol 1 & 2
Poetry has this talent to fill the void that regular stories cannot. The prose can often be abstract and lyrical, giving the reader room to interpret the emotions being expressed however they want it to be. They can be clear cut with a poignant message delivered in few lines, or paragraphs worth.
The poems expressed in these two volumes run the gamut. Bringing together a wide net of poets, there is bound to be something that will impact the reader. The styles are unique, the words and messages are beautiful and deadly.
There's no shortage of wordplay, of prose that dances eloquently on the tongue and page alike. This is a collection that demands rereads and will make you linger at certain passages. I absolutely adore these two collections.
Gorgeous, dark, beautiful poetry. Poetry is personal and I don’t like to review someone’s poetry. That being said, if gothic poetry is your thing this is, in my opinion, this is one of the best collections of gothic poets.
