Oh hell and damnation . . . One hell of a cliffhanger!!
This is the fourth book in the Blueblood Vampires series. While none of these books are really standalone books, this one is especially not a standalone. It reads like part 1 of a 2 part book, and I was loving every minute of it.
I’m rather surprised how much I loved this book because one of the two main couples in this book, Manu and Karl, were not really my favorite people in the previous books. I found Manu to be a self absorbed, conceited person, and Karl was just kinda “there.” But boy was I wrong! Their story is sweet, exciting, tender and heartbreaking. Interwoven with their love story is beginnings of the relationship between Karl’s sister, Cheryl, and the vampire, Ronan. You can’t really tell the story of one couple without the other, because their stories are so entwined. But it is excellent storytelling to be sure.
The format of this book jumps between present day Salem and their lives in the “old country” in 1520 Italy. I was worried that it would get confusing, but it was well done. Indeed the plot gets thicker, and the reader is informed about more of the genesis of the curses that plague our star crossed lovers in the present.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I loved every book in this series so far. While the last book, Forgotten Heir, was enjoyable with some comedic relief, this book is filled with drama, angst, longing, desire and love. The only downside is that at the time of this review, the final book isn’t released and I have to wait a few more months for it! *sobs*
