When the Case Goes Cold, Things Get Hot When an insurance case lands on his desk, Miami Jones is less than enthusiastic. That is until he discovers that the case involves the new hockey arena in West Palm Beach. Strange things are happening there. Is it sabotage or the result of a voodoo curse? Miami must find the truth before South Florida burns. Series "...strong, unstereotyped, and engaging..." Kirkus Reviews "a well-balanced mix of intrigue, dry humor, and wit..." Manhattan Book Review "Robert B. Parker meets Carl Hiaasen." - Bookbub “A rollicking good read.” - San Francisco Book Review
A.J. Stewart has lived in so many places it feels like he has a home team in every game he sees. Which explains why his wife begins any sports telecast with "who are going for today?" A.J. and his family currently spend their time in Los Angeles and South Florida, but stay tuned, anything could happen.
There is no shortage of authors who feature a south Florida based P.I. in their work. A.J. Stewart’s Miami Jones series is above many of the others.
Stewart shows a lot of research into the subject of his story lines. In this case it’s about politics and corruption in Palm Beach County and the fictional hockey team and arena.
Stewart brings in many of the minor characters from prior novels to help MJ in is quest to solve the caper. Always nice to see “old friends” included in stories.
This 14th book in the Miami Jones series is another winner. This series has always drawn me in. When an insurance case comes in Miami isn’t thrilled, but it’s regarding a new hockey arena and possible sabotage. There were so many twists and turns in the plot. Miami thinks he’s got it figured out, but does he? He’s his typical self and says and does things that get him in trouble with the wrong people. He might come away with the win against the bad guys, but they get their shots in too. This book, as usual, had me chuckling at Miami’s dry wit and his sometimes unorthodox way of handling things. All the while he’s still trying to come to grips with where ‘home’ really is, Singer Island or Miami. Terrific job A. J. Stewart. Looking forward to the next one!
In what world would someone think that building a brand new arena for a miner league ice hockey team, in South Florida, would be a good idea? Somebody did and they got the county to pay half. Miami doesn't much like working a job for an insurance company, but that is what he ends up doing when weird things start happening at the new facility. If the team can't play, the insurance company stands to lose millions. If you ever wanted to learn about the workings of a multipurpose facility or hockey, now is your chance. A lot of research must have gone into this one. You still get all the irreverent humor and investigating skills you expect. This is a must read for Miami Jones fans!
The Miami Jones series is not quite a hard core PI investigator series but rather an enjoyable read in between some heavier reads. It's easier to get through and when Miami is on the job, he is relentless until he finds the answer and the responsible parties.
His partner Ron and office assistant Lizzy don't appear to have too much to do with the investigation and it's Miami in cars, buses and planes trying to find answers of who is trying to sabotage the new hockey arena (yes in Florida).
Along the way his house on Spider Island is burned to the ground and he finally discovers that is his happy place.
Another suspense filled, intriguing mystery solved. A la Miami Jones!
There's just something about a Miami Jones Florida Mystery that holds you in its fold from cover to cover. Perhaps it's the colorful tropical? Perhaps it's the way the author intricately plays the series of events with intriguing twists and turns at every corner? Or, perhaps it's the lack of bang band shoot em up, that seems to be the norm with most mystery novels in today's world?
I had read the first 13 books in the Miami Jones series a year or so ago and loved them. Checking last week I was surprised to find 3 more available and quickly downloaded them. I was not disappointed. I have just finished #14 and it was as good as the previous ones. It might have been a little better as if A.J. is getting better. I am looking forward to the next two I have on my kindle to see if she has peaked yet. I doubt it. They just keep getting better. Love this series.!!
As always, I started the book with the intention of reading a few chapters today and poof,I finished! So good! The story and characters hook you instantly. The setting of SoFlo creates the movie in your brain as you read. Especially if you lived area as I once did. I can smell the ocean and feel the breeze as I read. I have read all of Stewart's book in all series and they are all good like the Miami Jones series.
I have now read the entire offering, hopefully, up to this point. I have enjoyed watching Miami grow as well as watching the characters’ roles grow into a true family unit. The author makes you feel like you are in Florida and living the story with the characters. As a transplant myself, I understand snowbirds and the feeling of why would you live anywhere else. Highly recommend the whole series and starting at the beginning.
Book 14 in the Miami Jones series was good but not great. Jones is hired by an Insurance Company to make sure a new Hockey/Basketball Area opens on time and not vandalized. What was interesting is how the Hockey and Basketball teams share the same arena. Especially in Miami where keeping the Ice frozen is not easy. Jones despite suffering a devastating loss is able to recover and earn his salary
This story has all the likable characters of this series helping. You also learn more about the people who help Miami solve cases! I don't even like hockey, but this is a great story like all the others! Mr. Stewart weaves an intricate story that you want to read to find out how it ends!
AJ Stewart has created a lovable cast of characters. The main character, Miami Jones has a plethora of oddball friends. They always seem to be getting into some sort of trouble or helping him get out. Great characters. Always a life lesson included
What a wild story! This book is a bit different from the earlier ones, and all of the mechanical and financial jargon made me struggle a bit at first, but then Miami was on the move and I was truly involved. I promise that readers will be worn out when they finish this one! There were moments when I did a fist pump and exclaimed, "YESSSS!"
Bought the first book for .99 cents and was hooked. After buying the next11 books. I figure its best to join Kindle unlimited. Bought the paperback for my son for Christmas. He likes the Jack Reacher books before Lee Child's brought on a co-author. Think he'll enjoy the Miami Jones series. Realistic and plausible stories.
I love everything about Miami Jones. This was a fun adventure in a different kind of setting. Spoiler alert…another, very satisfying end to a great escapade. Thank you once again A. J. Stewart!
I always enjoy his writing,. Another great story. Although AJ has turned out a number of books they are never alike and never monotonous. And his characters r real and easy to connect to. stay at it Mr. Stewart!
Filled with action, intrigue, a little violence and a lot of heart. Mr. Stewart weaves another winning Miami Jones adventure. And as always, makes me wish I lived in the Palm Beaches.
Love the real life happening on each page as we get a look inside Florida's government system. Really enjoy the filling out if each character! Even Eric the ex!
Miami and Ron are hired by an insurance company to investigate the strange things that happen at the new hockey arena. MJ learns about his Miami family and their support. A great story.
Love these books! Cannot get them fast enough. I live and love Florida and wish I could have the coastal side but only as a visitor. Keep up the great work😎👏🦩🌴
I've read every single Miami Jones book and can't wait for the next one to come out. He's an entertaining character as well as everyone else in is family by choice!
