28 chapters in and I give up.

Picked up this book-to-drama adaptation. What drew me in was the advertisement of it having a 'Mr & Mrs Smith' plot. I don't know whether it will be that when the FL recovers her memory but right now, it felt like torture reading it.

What's been happening so far is that something huge happened to the FL: she sustained a debilitating injury and selective amnesia. Apparently, she was the wife of this big bad bandit who happens to be the arch rival of the ML. As "fate" would have it, the ML managed to pick up her after she was gravely injured and kept her by his side in the hopes to lure the big bad bandit out and kill him. Credits to the ML's BFF and "fate," the FL was cajoled into believing that the ML is her husband. Based on her memories of her formative years and that the ML didn't seem to be the abusive asshole (which he is???) she was expecting to be, she went all out to be the best wife she could and aspires to enjoy a long, blissful marriage.

Alas, due to her "bad" history, everyone around her (basically the servants of the ML and the ML himself) wasn't kind to her. Mind you, everyone knew the ML was just using her and they knew that before she lost her memory, she was actually kidnapped and forced to be the bandit's wife, so pardon me if their actions did not sit well with me at all. Other than keeping her in the dark, being highly prejudiced towards her, they enjoyed her efforts and kindness directed at them while at it. She was fed another lie that the ML bankrupted himself to pay for her medical bills thereby invoking guilt that was completely uncalled for, which resulted in her willingly wearing old clothes, eating poorly, treating the ML like a literal king, working tirelessly, just so she can make enough money to feed the entire household and repay her husband for his "love." He's a freaking noble so he's literally a 'Crazy, Rich Asian.' Granted, he wants to lure his enemy out but with his "wits," I'm certain there are a million ways that doesn't require mistreatment of the FL???

It also annoys me to no end that every time there's even so much as a breeze, the ML's immediate thought is, "the bandit is here to find her!" and then goes into a whole dramatic solo about ambushing the imaginary bandit or "cleverly" giving the FL the chance to stab him in the back in order to reunite with her old flame. If she behaves nothing like a demure lady, he thinks lowly of her and disrepects her mentally, all the while knowing she behaved that way because she has to fend for herself and she is trying her darnest to make ends meet with barely any budget. To make matters worse, he has a fiancée, whom he hangs out with every now and then while maintaing the act of being married to the FL, and enjoy the king treatment from as well. There's an absolutely repugnant man if I've ever seen one!

The side characters are also utterly irksome: the ML's BBF, the elderly servant tasked by the ML to spy on the FL, the FL's old flame, and her back-stabbing BFF. I've read a lot of fiction and I don't recall ever coming across any novel where I hate every. single. one. of the characters. URGH.

So, no. I'm so freaking turned off and upset at everyone in the novel. I feel soooooo bad for the poor FL. Despite knowing this is a romance novel and they're gonna end up together, I honestly hope from the bottom of my heart that everyone just burns in hell and the FL goes and live a long, happy life without all of these asswipes.

Highly recommend if you're sick of reading about good people or needs a constant spike in your blood pressure.

Pick this novel because the drama has just endeed and I’m in the mood of reading the original story rather than watch the show.
For the first 50 chapters it surely slow paced, almost there’s barely interesting story happened, but Thank God after that, the story picks up and started to be interesting to follow.

We follow Mian Tang, a lady whose got amnesia. All she remember she’s married woman to a business man named Cui Jiu for three years. What she didn’t remember is she’s never got married. Her fake husband actually a Prince who pretending to be her husband because he’s in need to capture Mian Tang’s man, Lu Wen, a bandit leader.

Up until the last translated chapter (chapter 137), there’s many progression with their relationship already. I really enjoy the character growth of Prince Huiyang. Mian Tang also smart and independent lady from the beginning. I never bored to read about her navigating her life and life around her.

This is summary for me to remember the story in case I will go back finishing the novel after it’s fully translated:


- At the beginning of this novel, Prince Huiyang has fiancee, his niece. But after he discover his niece and her mom are only after his wealth only, ultimately he cancelled the engagement.
- Prince Huiyang got decree from the royal to stop rebel. Originally, Cui Jiu send a ‘fake divorce’ to Mian Tang in case he got killed. In his letter, he stated that he wants to follow Prince Huiyang so he divorcing his ‘wife’ so that she can move on and continue her life without him.
- Mian Tang didn’t accept it, thus she went to follow her husband wherever he wanted to go.
- After series of events, it revealed that they are fake couple. Prince Huiyang proposed Mian Tang to be his concubine but Mian Tang refused it and returned to her grandfather’s home.
- Mian Tang met with her ex, Ziyu, and he got promoted (?) to be the new emperor.
- After Prince Huiyang successfully stop the rebel, he went to Mian Tang city to proposing her once again. At this time to be his legal wife. *finally you used your brain, prince moron*.
- Mian Tang met with her subordinates and they told her that she’s Lu Wen. The amnestic Mian Tang doesn’t remember her days as Lu Wen but she’s feeling guilty for her loyal subordinates. Thus, she’s setting up her business for them to handle, at least this time is legal work.
- Mian Tang and Prince Huiyang got married.
- Prince Huiyang gotten news about Lu Wen identity is actually Mian Tang not Ziyu the emperor. He arrest Mian Tang subordinates so Mian Tang confess about her meeting with them and she’s actually Lu Wen, her husband enemy.
- Mian Tang delivers Prince Huiyang’s son safely to the world.
- Mian Tang discovers her husband disband her business and chase away her subordinates away from the capital.

I really curious what will happen when Mian Tang remember her life as Lu Wen. So, I really hope the translator keeps doing this project as I can’t have patient to MTL this novel.

Wait this chapter is so contradictory first it says “ML” 😒 wanted to keep an eye on the amnesiac wife (FL) but then it says she thought ML was her intended (Cui Jiu…) SO WAS SHE MARRIED OR NOT.

Oh c5 so it seems FL was set to marry CJ cuz her dad made her but she was kidnapped by LW & forced to be his wife. Now [ML] has her. Damn this guy better C R A W L.
Hm. Is Zhao Qian the medicine studying idek marquis SML? And would FL be better off as his concubine?
