The Tribulations of Ross Young, Supernat PA: The Complete Works

“Company policy forbids me from exchanging my blood, my soul, or my firstborn child with customers…”

When Ross starts working third-shift at a gas station, he doesn’t think anything extraordinary will happen. He expects a lot of quiet shifts.

Well, you know what they say about assumptions.

One explosion later and he’s the personal assistant to a vampire—who he admits is not only sexy, but the sane one—in charge of his supernatural clan’s paperwork, and managing any trouble the members get into.

Spoiler alert: the clan can get into quite a bit of trouble.

Ross is definitely not paid enough for this.

Such a fun, quirky read.

Ross was an absolute gem, with his dry approach to what the supernatural world had thrown at him and I completely adored his sadistic streak when he chose to get back at people who'd fucked with him.

[My take on uber-competent, college-aged Ross...]

Highly recommended and I'd rate it at 4.25 stars.

As expected this was a fun trip, I had quite a bit of laughs.

“You have a way to pay for this? And by pay, I mean actual currency. Company policy forbids me from exchanging my blood, my soul, or my firstborn child with customers.” 😄

“You really don’t know much about us, do you? But you handle whatever comes through that door so well. How do you manage?”
“Common sense. Dying art, I know.”
- Ross and his deadpanned comments were beautiful. 🖤

As for the romance, it builds very slowly. Ross and Glenn don't really dare at first ...

“Why don’t I come kill that son-of-a-bitch who took what was mine, and then I’ll properly romance you.” - finally 😍😍😍

Until this moment, Ross had thought ‘come your brains out’ was just a phrase. But it might have actually happened. He certainly felt like he just had. 🤣😂🤣

I would rate the first half of the book as wonderful and exceedingly well done. But then, unfortunately, it became a bit boring for me. Even after Ross and Glenn get together, I felt like everything was stagnating. I missed more of the interactions that make up the characters. However, you have to give it credit that this is not a traditional book, but these were originally monthly newsletters. That's probably why it didn't feel quite wrapped up to me and some of the empathy for the characters was lost.

This was HILARIOUS! It was written as a serial release through newsletters over a period of time, but this is the full book that gathers them all together.

Ross is just unflappable and not phased by all the paranormal beings coming into his gas station late at night - he just needs a job. I love his nonchalance at what would scare a normal person. Due to his calm and rational nature, he's hired by a vampire - Glenn - to be his PA for his clan.

I LOVED all the antics that Glenn and his clan got into. AJ writes humor so, so well and I love all the interactions between Ross and various people. It's lighthearted and fun - and a bit of steam between Ross and Glenn, which is always good. And also a cute crossover with another series from her! Loved that little bit.

If you're looking for something fun, quirky, hilarious to read, definitely check this out!

I received a review copy to read in exchange for an honest review.

This was so much FUN!
I chuckled, I smiled, I grinned whilst totally rooting for Ross and Glenn.

Loved …

.) all the sarcastic, snarky humour. (Absolutely NO cringing or eye-rolling!!!)
.) Ross and Glenn. We are in Ross’s POV for most of the book and I loved his no-nonsense, practical approach to life and supernatural beings. And Glenn’s ‘brooding’ vampire presence is fun when everyone knows he is a giant marshmallow and an inherently good guy.
.) all the funny and quirky secondary characters. The werewolves, the vampires and who knows what are really entertaining.
.) The romance is maybe not the biggest priority here, but there was enough of it to warm my heart and make me sigh.

Really entertaining.

I've been reading these each month from the author's newsletter, but the last chapter from Glenn's POV (including Ross being turned) caps off the series perfectly. Ross is amazing -- fantastic poise and unflappability!

This is considered a reread for me since I finished the serialised shorts months ago. It was so good that when this came out I had to buy it. The bonus about Glenn's POV was totally worth every single penny. This is such a good story and I would totally recommend to readers who are looking for a laugh.

This story was a lot of fun--fun for the characters and their shenanigans and fun for me to read.

Ross is the king of one-liners, both spoken and in thought. In fact, most of my highlights were his humorous comments. For example, after a long stretch of working night and day readers are treated to: "Instead of being in a steady relationship with his pillow, he seemed to only have visiting rights."

I also enjoyed the bonus material from Glenn's POV at the end of the book. Just perfect to cap the HEA.

If you enjoy fantasy/paranormal with all sorts of magical creatures, especially werewolves and vampires, this is a great read when you need a quick pick-me-up. And because it's actually a collection of shorter stories orignally published as a newsletter serial, you can (like I did) read a chapter a night to end the day on a humorous note.

Enjoyed the additions to this version

I enjoyed reading this as a serial immensely and equally enjoyed reading this bound version. The additions at the end from Glenn’s point of view were a nice bonus. I hope at some point we see more of Ross, Glenn, and the clan.

This is one of the funniest books I’ve read in a long time. I loved Ross so much! His whole way of dealing with the shenanigans that all the supernat’s get themselves into is priceless and makes my heart happy as a former customer service rep. I loved his sense of humor and the deadpan way he just handled everything while quietly having a mini panic attack.

I wish that this was a full series because I would read the hell out of it! I loved each of these little stories and I just about died laughing the whole time I was reading. I’m so in love with this little universe that I don’t want to leave! This is getting five stars. I would highly recommend it if you’re at all into urban/contemporary fantasy!

I loved this so much from the characters to the story it was funny and super unique I loved everything about this book. The characters were amazing especially the ever unflappable Ross the way he took everything in without batting an eyelash and treating them like regular customers gained him many admires I especially liked Glenn a really interesting vampire I loved reading from his POV at the end. I really loved the plot it started with Ross working at a gas station with supernatural customers and never being shocked out that it leads into a great romance with many funny moments and an amazingly well written story I am looking forward to more.

Quick, humourous and deliciously entertaining.

I've been eagerly awaiting this release. I discovered AJ Sherwood this year and have Binge read EVERY SINGLE WORD.

Ross Young is no exception.
This serial collection is quirky, funny and quick. Ross, Glenn and the Clan are an entertainment wonderland, and I desperately hope that, one day soon, even more stories from these ridiculous characters.

If you want a quick, light and hilarious MM paranormal/fantasy read, This is the one to choose.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.25 stars

The Tribulations of Ross Young, Supernat PA is adorable, charming, and a lot of fun. The story was originally written as a serial in A.J. Sherwood’s newsletter and has now been repackaged into a novel-length book made up of 10.5 installments, plus a newly added chapter at the end from Glenn’s POV. The book falls somewhere in between a traditional novel and a series of vignettes. It reads mostly like one long story and the installments follow a consistent timeline. Some of the chapters are more moments in time as Ross deals with various clan-related problems, while others flow more directly one into the other. Each chapter (or “incident” as the book calls them) has its own adorable cover, so it is very clear where one stops and the next starts. But I still found that this read very much like one long book and I think Sherwood has done a great job of breaking the story down into pieces, while still making it feel like one overarching journey for Ross and Glenn.

Chronicles of a human (Ross) navigating the supernatural world with poise and aplomb as the personal assistant to Mr. Sexy Vampire Glenn aka watching two tired parents working tirelessly to corral their 100+ supernatural children.

A quirky and whimsical story for funsies and laughs! I can't imagine being in Ross' shoes though—he has the patience of a saint, which I certainly do not 😆

(On a side note, this reminded me of New Times, New Hell 新时代,新地府 where the only human employee works as a programmer at a start-up company that turns out to be a Hell organization in charge of handling ghosts/spirits and reincarnation. I still have to finish the audio drama but the story's just as chaotic and humorous 🤣)

Gimmee! Just plain Gimmee! This was ridiculous and so wonderful. Ross is awesome. He's completely unflappable and yet that's what makes him perfect for finding himself discovering the supernatural world is real. He's not even fazed. He just keeps doing his job and maintains the gas station/convenience store. This was enjoyable as a series of vignettes and yet I never felt like I was missing any part of the story.

I loved Ross and Glen. I adored the antics of the clan and all their shenanigans were handled with such aplomb by Ross. The cross over with a certain thief and his "minion" ;) just cracked me up. I smiled through this whole thing. It was just plain fun.

I’m not sure if it’s because it’s a re-read or its all in one go, I enjoyed it more the first time around. I’m usually a wait a binge person but I guess the serials have that wait hype. Still love the characters, Ross and Glenn are adorable. I think my favourite is the dog pound and Ross just having enough. I liked the extra will Glenn, it was nice to see his thoughts. Cute stories. Best line “Does anyone know if the skulls of our enemies are dishwasher safe?”

I loved this book even more than I did the first time I read it.
A friend recommended this book to me and I must say I’m glad she did because I really enjoyed it. It was quirky and different and made me laugh. I loved Ross and how he just took everything in stride. All in all, a highly enjoyable read.

I enjoyed this so much. It was hilarious. I loved Ross. He took everything in stride.

One thing...I can't believe I'm going to say...I could have done without Glenn's POV at the end. I think the book stood well enough alone with just Ross's POV. It was all about Ross anyway so Glenn's POV wasn't needed IMO. But it was a fun read overall.

(reread; 4.25/5) In any case, it was still a lot of fun. But I think if you've read it once, you don't necessarily need to read it again. It's kind of a one-off thing.

That was rather perfect, I must say. The characters were all fantastic, the plot fun and quick, the romance on point and very fitting and the end sugar sweet. I loved it.

It wasn't bad, but I don't think it ever really clicked for me. The humor wasn't my cup of tea, and I never really felt invested in any of the characters. The vampire felt... too tryhard suave for me and I didn't like it. Cute concept, though.

Okay, I read this as a serial and I reread it as a book (with an added chapter from Glenn's perspective). I still loved it. Ross is the calmest chillest dude. He starts working the night shift at a gas station and soon realizes there is more to the world than he thought. Before long he's smacking werewolves on the nose, telling ghouls to get off the ceiling and giving hungover vampires Gatorade and aspirin. His no-fucks manner soon brings him to the attention of one of the local clans (most are heterogenous but Glenn's clan is a mixed bag of everything from werewolves to vamps to trolls to a kitsune) and they try to recruit Ross to handle their daily interactions. Ross is reluctant but when the gas station burns down he gives it a go.

Most of the stories are him getting the werewolves and others out of trouble and dealing with is nosy mom. But he and Glenn (vamp) dance around their attraction until they finally give in. It's just fun and I respected Ross's ability to keep his cool, to handle things and be firm when he needed to be. It's just a fun quick read but worth it for the good feels.

From the very first line to the end of the book I was in stitches. This was just a spur of the moment borrow from Hoopla as I had 2 more borrows left. I went in completely blind without any knowledge of what the book was about. Mainly because Declan Winters was the narrator and I am a sucker for him and have been known to listen to a book just because he was the narrator. I am so thankful that I chose this one cause I have basically become obsessed.

First of all this was pure chaos in the best of ways. Some of my favorite things about this book was #1 referenced Rogers & Hammerstein's Cinderella talking about being in their own little corner in their own little chair. #2 was the haunted house scene. I was dying laughing, like tears streaming down my face laughing. I also loved that while it wasn't what I consider a slow burn, it wasn't a immediately fall into bed with each other either. Their first kiss wasn't even until about 40% into the book.

This is definitely a book that I will be revisiting.

4.5 stars. Cute and quirky. Human enters paranormal world and antics ensue. Great concept, personal assistant helping mischievous, trouble magnet clan of misfits out of a fun variety of situations. Light, easy, fast read, big time jump with a nice epilogue. Only one bedroom scene left me thirsty for more.

Contemporary, paranormal, human, vampire, mild spice, no drama, no angst, m/m, HEA, millionaire, personal assistant.

3.5⭐

It seems I prefer A.J. Sherwood when she's not being like super-completely-over-the-top ridiculous. I liked this book, the unflappable Ross as a main character, the found family and silly shenanigans. But I never was hugely invested in it. Everything is a bit too easy for my tastes and the serial format is not my favourite. Still, I can definitely recommend it to anyone who likes these kind of silly and quite cosy paranormal adventures.

Overall, I liked these. I thought it'd take me a while to get through 10.5 books, but they're all novella length so I got through them pretty quickly. They're funny, the characters are nice, and I really like the clan overall.
Do I wish they were longer? Absolutely. Do I wish we had more? Very much. Am I happy with what we do have? Yes.
