The boy I loved hurt me a long time ago.
But he's not a boy anymore. He's a gorgeous, painfully tempting man in his prime. A famous actor who could have anyone he wants.
Why does he keep choosing me?
The papers are buzzing with scandals these days. I'm the director of his TV show, if we get caught together, it would ruin both our careers.
I didn't think he'd be happy when I ended our fling, but I didn't expect him to act like I don't exist, even when we're in the same room. It's driving me crazy. I want to kick his ass... I want to kiss his warm mouth.
How can this be the same person I was best friends with in high school?
As much as he deserves it, I'm doing my best not to hate him.
I have to.
Because loving him hurts even worse.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review!

It was in dual first person pov. Like the first it was past and present ones. I liked it because that gave us insight in the past and all the things that happened.
Peter is a persistent man who knows he wants her and isn't afraid to fight for it.
I kind of understood the reason why there was hesitation, but on the other side I would say it's all about the coming out. There is a difference between the two that were frowned upon and Peter and Amber!

They have a history from so many years back that was never set wright. I hate when that happens because that's so many wasted years. But also I know that happens in real life as well..

I would like to say don't waste your time, go for everything you want!

Now: He's an actor, she's a director. They're gonna make movie magic.
Then: They were two high school kids in drama class.
I've read one or two hollywood style romances but for her to be the director instead of him was a refreshing change. I knew I was going to like these two early on when his agent comments about a possible intimate relationship between the H/h and was shut down hard. The hero told him to butt out, because any relationship outside of work is nobodies business and you better believe AT WORK every thing will be professional to the letter. Ooh, I liked it.

Part two of an unbreakable love. I enjoyed this book much more than book one. And was a perfect conclusion to the duet.

Amber is scared of her feelings for Peter and how they are going to affect her and her career so in fear she pushes him away and immediately realises her mistake can she show Peter that she wants him and has never not loved him or has she ruined the future that they could have shared?

Peter knew he had lost Amber when he betrayed her to her parents when they were teenagers and never expected to get a second chance but when he does he knows that this time he will do whatever it takes to keep Amber happy even if he has to walk away. But when push comes to shove can he really walk away from the one person who loved him for him and saw what he had to offer or will he stay and fight for her love this time?

This story was told from both sides and you cannot hope but want them to have a happy ever after that they deserve, I would have loved for them to have a longer epilogue but I think that was my only complaint. Both books were enjoyable reads and entertaining, would I recommend YES and would I read again YES. Mostly a safe read with only one scene of drama. Highly recommended.

Peter and Amber meet in high school when she convinces him to audition for the drama club.
From there they fall in love and share all their firsts until Peter puts Amber’s career at risk and they break up.
They don’t see each other again until 10 years later, he begins to be a recognized actor and she is the new director of the series in which he works.
He is clear that he is still in love with her, but in order to get back together he has to get her to forgive him.
Amber is still in love with him, she has already forgiving for all the past, but the fear of putting her career at risk again for having a relationship with him makes their relationship go through some bumps.
A story of second chances, love, passion and forgiveness.

Reaching for That Second Chance . . .

This is a second chance opportunity for two high school sweethearts who missed grabbing onto their future the first time around. Peter never let go of his feelings for Amber. Ten years later, the two meet again where Peter is an actor and Amber is the director of this TV series.

With this second chance, Peter will make it clear to Amber that he will not let her go this time around. Amber isn’t sure whether she can trust him and is uncomfortable at how it could impact her career. Can he convince her that they belong together? Will she give him another chance to prove his love?

So, the synopsis for part one of this duet, For Her, interested me. I know Ms. Wylder has been around a minute, but I never read her stuff because it seemed like more of the 'dime a dozen' dreck that either bores or irritates me. Then I read this story...and ya know, I was right!

Shallow. Pedestrian. High in steam, low in substance. There's my summation.
It's a second-chancer, so if you hate those, no great loss, eh?
And really, the 'issue' that kept this generic pair apart for a fricken' DECADE is hinted to be soooo awful but in truth is so thin I'd say the h deserved a good slap...if I cared.
Which I don't.
She'd likely enjoy it, anyway, and where's the fun in that?

But first, a few things before I get to the heroine. The blurb is pretty much bullshit. There's nothing hard-fought here, no fury or real resistance from the heroine and no angst. The story is quite light - in originality, plot and characterisation. But what it lacks in those areas is made up with a bumper crop of soft porn. So, yay 🙄. Not grasping why this writer is popular or why this book was drawn out into two parts. There wasn't much going on in the present but a f*ck tonne of flashbacks, instead. If you cut out those and all the shagging (and thoughts of shagging) you're left with barely enough for a novella, at best.

But, for those that are interested, this book is 'safe.' Manwhoring, cheating or OP had no bearing on the couple's separation. There is no time spent on their sex lives during that time. If being pushy, smirking a lot and musing arrogantly that 'she still wants me and I will make her mine' makes a hero an Alpha, then Peter is an alpha. And Amber is one of those heroines who think they are all badass but are actually embarassing and clumsy and cry and throw up a lot when they are upset.
So, there's that.

In my mind, such a woman is not considered 'strong.'
Seriously, did I miss a memo or something? You know, the one that says a relatable heroine must overreact, fall down and hurt herself and need to be controlled by a man?
Well, too fking bad.
I can't be arsed with that mess. I won't apologise for that, either.
Can't for the life of me understand how a woman can call herself strong one minute and give her power away the next.

I'm still repulsed by heroes who tease and dominate, by women who beg and submit. I always will be. I hate that misogyny and kink are becoming a normal part of CR, that mediocre-to-inferior writing and overplayed, stupid tropes are what this genre is being reduced to. But instead of my accustomed feelings of anger or frustration, I'm feeling increasingly indifferent - both towards the unfairness of it all and towards my long-beloved pasttime of reading. And I somehow think that's worse.

For Us by Penny Wylder brings the exciting conclusion to Peter and Amber's 2nd chance at love story. In book 1, the book ended on a cliffhanger where we left our main characters (Peter and Amber) just heartbroken and devastated. Book 2 is the conclusion and it picks up where book 1 left off. Peter and Amber’s story is so heartbreaking, but it most definitely will put your heart back together by the end of the story. As the reader, you have questions for book 2 like if Peter and Amber will ever find their HEA or if sadly, they will be doomed from the start to repeat the mistakes like their past. I don't want to give any spoilers away but what I can say is that there are tons of emotions in this story- heartbreak, angst, pain, drama, tension, passion , romance and love. It spills thru the pages and keeps me hooked on this sizzling conclusion to Peter and Amber's 2nd chance at love. Ms. Wylder has written an amazing conclusion with such great characters.

My Rating: 4.5 stars *****

This is the second and final book in the Girl I Loved Duet. Amber and Peter made a wonderful couple and it was hard not to fall in love with them. A beautifully written love story that was a joy to read. Well-developed characters and an entertaining storyline. This is the conclusion to Peter and Amber's story. Peter knows what he wants and goes for it. His hesitation is understandable but he pushes through it. Amber is trying to move on but secretly wants Peter. Will these two finally get things worked out? A good story with all the emotions.

For Us Box Set - The Girl I Loved Duet

For Us is the box set of The Girl I Loved Duet books, For Her and For Us. The story is about Amber and Peter who are high school sweethearts. She loves the drama classes and everything about putting on plays. Amber introduces Peter to drama and he loved acting. But they split up when he told her parents that she was having a problem and she thought it was a major betrayal, so she stopped talking to him. Now it is ten years later and they are both in Hollywood. Peter is a successful actor who is about to start a new project. To his surprise Amber is the director he will be working with. As soon as he sees Amber again all of his old feelings coming rushing back and he knows he has never stopped loving her, after all she is "the one". Amber on the other hand is still hurt and does not want anything to do with Peter outside of their working together. Peter is determined to win Amber back and prove they were always meant to be together.

This is an interesting and at times very entertaining second chance with your first love story. I have read a lot of Penny Wylder books and like the way she tells a story, both with her novellas and full length books. This story however did not hit all the notes that I would expect by this author. At times it seemed to drag on, the flipping back and forth between past and present was nicely done but at times a bit to often, and the characters were good but did not seem to have really matured. Plus I wanted to smack Amber upside the head because of her reason she stopped talking to Peter.....and then to hold onto this reason and hurt for so many years was childish to me. He did what he did because he loved her and wanted to protect her, not hurt her and in the process have his own heart split in two. Overall this was a good story but for me not the best by this author.

I received a copy of this book and am leaving my honest review. My opinions are all my own and I know that others loved this duet. So if you love Penny Wylder's book then pick up For Us and make up your own mind.

I'm a great fan of Penny's books and this one doesn't disappoint. Peter meets Amber at high school and they fail in love. Peter knows she is his one and will do anything for Amber. However he inadvertently makes a decision which he thinks will keep her safe but actually makes her so mad and hurts her badly. Ten years later he is becoming a successful actor and she is his new director. Peter knows that he has never stopped loving Amber and that he would do anything to put things right. Amber is still mad and Peter doesn't know the whole truth. As they get to know each other again can she forgive him? Peter hopes so and wants nothing more than to built the life they dreamed of as teenagers, together.
As always with Penny the characters are strong and have depth. A very enjoyable book. Another great read from Penny - thoroughly recommended

3.5 stars. I didn’t read the duet, so I don’t know how this version was put together but I generally prefer one book to a duet.

The story itself was fine but I had trouble with the jumping back and forth between past and present so frequently. It made it difficult to buy into the emotional connection between the characters in either era because of the interruptions in the stories. The other thing was that even though the time that lapsed between the events was 8 years, the characters’ voices didn’t make me feel a maturity of 8 years.

The things that didn’t get my full investment in the story could be a matter of preference. As far as being a second chance romance involving a pair in the acting field that first met in high school drama, it was an interesting story.

Amber and Peter had that storybook high school love. When Amber started collapsing, Peter hid it for just so long and then he confessed what was going on to her mother. Her parents yanked her out of school and she could not finish her Senior Drama Project. She felt like Peter had committed the ultimate betrayal. She never contacted him again. He was hurt also and but was only trying to look out for her. Fast forward 10 years, Peter is now an up and coming actor and Amber has her first really big break directing his new TV series. Amber and Peter have a lot of issues to work through. They also had a fantastic history that was hard to ignore. There is so much heartbreak and joy in this story. You will be on a roller coaster throughout the entire book. Great read from Penny Wylder.

Ok so now their story is done. Honestly, this could have been combined with the first book and wouldnt have seemed long. Unlike the other books I've read by this author, I still feel this one had more substance, but if you're looking for a well-developed story with interesting characters, this book duet is still not great.
For the type of book I expected it to be though, this one was quick to get through and pretty much as expected with the HEA.
I still liked Peter. Amber annoyed me more upon reading her flashbacks and how she felt about Peter. She didnt deserve his easy forgiveness and pursuit of her.
Oh and this has no bearing on the story, but why does the book's cover feature a tattooed guy (at no time did they mention Peter having tattoos) and a fake white blond/brunette (since Amber is a redhead)???

This book brings us Peter and Amber. They met in high school, Peter being the outcast, as he really didn't try to get along with many people, except Amber. She introduces him to Drama/Theater, and he is instantly hooked on acting. Unfortunately, things end on a bad note, however, now 10 years later, as he sees Amber again, he realizes that she is still the "one." Peter has become a successful actor, and much to his surprise, Amber is the director of his new project. She is weary of Peter as she still has hurt feelings, but Peter vows he will do whatever it takes to make her realize his mistakes and will win her back. This was a good read and I do recommend it. I did receive an arc for an honest review.

Amber and Peter were so close in school once he joined the Drama Club. Situations happen and they split to go their own way. Years later as he is acting in a project, she ends up being the director. The characters have great backstories, especially with the help of the first story in this duet. The storyline has its ups and downs and plenty of surprises and twists. So many real world problems like drugs, alcohol and higher ups wanting favors from their underlings. These two deal with a lot of issues and come out on top, knowing who their true friends are. Loved the interview at the end. Very well done.

Forgiving the past and finding their future happiness together

Omg!! What a conclusion! Peter and Amber have finally have it right. The story picked up from Amber's biggest mistake. I was glad she came to her senses, but was nervous about whether Peter could really forgive her again. I loved how he let her know firmly, but in his own way that she couldn't keep running away with his heart because she was his everything. It was refreshing to see Amber finally realize that Peter was there for her and her only. He would do anything to protect her and love her like no one else could. The surprise he had for her at end was beautiful. Such a great way to end their story.

I absolutely loved this book. It was well written and told an amazing story. Penny Wylder has written another fantastic book with Peter and Amber's story. Peter and Amber meet in high school and their connection is instant. But something happens to rip them apart. Amber feels as though Peter betrayed her and afterward, she disappears from his life. Now years later Peter is an actor and when he steps on set for a new production, he is stunned to learn Amber is the new director. Peter is determined to win back the only woman he has ever loved. If you enjoy second chance romance, you will love their story!

I really like when a couple gets a second chance at love. Especially when it is from High School. We all know that high school can be hard but to be in love and with your best friend just to have something happen and you two go your separate ways but still love each other deep down. HE mucked up bad and now they are no longer talking. Years later they are thrust together due to work. They don't realize it until they meet eyes. She isn't happy, but he is. He wants her back and will do what he can to get that second chance. Is she willing to give him a chance to make up?

Beautiful

The second to the book For Her, we get to learn so much more about these two characters. The anger and hurt that they have hidden, the struggle Amber faces when she realizes she may have destroyed the best thing she has ever had. Can these two overcome Hollywood trying to keep them apart, will they get that happy ending? Penny wrote another amazing book and a great conclusion to the other book!

Love Peter and Amber!!

I loved how Peter and Amber’s story developed. In book 1 I was afraid that their past and Amber’s position as a director was going to get in the way of their relationship. But I’m so glad that Peter was not giving up. I Loved their chemistry and the flash backs that help show how these two got to where they were now. And the ending was swoon worthy. Great Read!!

A beautiful love story...

For Us is a little something different from Penny Wylder, and I loved it! Book 2 of The Girl I Loved Duet wrapped up Peter and Amber's story in a tidy emotional bow.

With references to the past, I was fully involved in their second chance romance. I love the glimpses of what shapes a character into who they are today. Ms Wylder does that exceptionally well with this couple, this duet. 4.5 stars and highly recommended!

This is absolutely a fantastic second chance book. You definitely love the characters and their stories and the storyline flowed throughout the book. When you're young and from different paths in life and fate has away of showing up but when Peter least expects 10 years later he runs into the only woman who has his heart and live but can they make it work while filming together?

One stupid chick...

gets lucky with a devoted alpha male. HEA enclosed.

Penny Wylder is a really good writer but her ideas for her plot conflicts are ludicrously stupid. I have decided to stop buying and reading her books because of this storyline.

Having said that, I think her books a definitely someone’s cup of tea. Just not mine. Enjoy.

Great ending

Loved this finish of the duet. There are many things to be said about it from the rekindling of a high school romance to be coming adults and exploring was other again. This book was hot with lots of heated scenes. I loved their chemistry and their relationship. Great ending!

Past meets present

Peter has always loved Amber but doesn't know he will get a second chance after the tragic incident in high school that changed both their lives. Their last brings them together for an even better future. This diet is a little different from Penny Wylder's usually one story one book, but they were both great to read
