Fun, bright, and playful, Power Pop is a sometimes adored, sometimes maligned, often misunderstood genre of music. From its heyday in the 70s and 80s to its resurgence in the 90s and 00s, Power Pop has meant many things to many people. In Go Further, editors Paul Myers and S. W. Lauden have a whole new crop of writers going deep on what certain Power Pop bands and songs mean and have meant to them. Whether they love or hate it, Go All The Way is a dive into the Beatles-inspired pop rock of the last five decades.

This is a follow up to "Go All The Way," about power pop and the bands that play it.
Power pop is marked by melodic, singable songs with great hooks, crunchy guitars, and lots of harmony, spinning out in a blissful 3-and-a-half minutes. Some of my faves of the genre include XTC, Fountains of Wayne, the Posies, Cheap Trick and Jellyfish, among many others. Their progenitors are the Beach Boys, the Byrds, and, of course, the Beatles. And being a big Beatlemaniac, of course I enjoy the sounds.
If you're looking for a history of this great niche music genre, this isn't it. This is more a collection of personal essays about people who love the music and people who live it.
The book is fun but not particularly enlightening. But it does brings back memories and begs for the building of a Spotify playlist.
Great read. I seriously had forgotten about some of the fabulous power pop bands that were mentioned in this book! Some true greats!!! I had to hit up YouTube and listen to a bunch and remember how I loved them in their prime. I will never stop loving some good power pop! Thanks Paul Myers for putting these pages together......maybe a third edition?????
