Spider

She’s mine.

Not because she’s in love with me,

but because as the Sergeant At Arms for the Devil’s Outlaws MC,

I’m expected to handle her.

I enjoy punishing her

for her crime against the MC.

I’m glad she did what she did.

Because now I get to keep her.

But she’s not who she says she is.

I’m going to get to the bottom of her little game

and shut it down.

Now I can’t figure out if I need to kill her

or protect her.

I’ll keep her alive…as long as she doesn’t lie.

Emma

What did I do?

One bad decision

sent my world spiraling into hell.

Straight into the arms of a monster.

I had no choice.

Now the question is

which is better,

The cult whose horrors I barely escaped,

Or the nightmare my outlaw captor has trapped me in?

I may hate where I am now,

But I can’t stop thinking about him.

I loathe him with every fiber of my being,

yet when he leaves, I crave his touch.

I’m his captive, his prisoner.

I’m playing a role,

Planning my escape.

As long as he doesn’t see through my facade,

I’ll make it out alive.

I’ll make it out before he destroys me.

After reading Jamie Begley's MC romance books I want to find more. I saw Evil's Prize under someone else's recommendation and took it. I have no triggers, I read irredeemable heroes and have no triggers regarding questionable abuses but this book wasn't for me. This is an outlaw biker and pastor’s daughter's romance. It had all my favourite tropes and a dark MC is rare to find unfortunately the reaction to a hit not properly reliated is where my reading becomes dull.

I don't remember much from this story, I skimmed mostly. I don't like the names of the Club members. The H's name Spider doesn't make the hero feel aggressive or cool not even "Spidy". When the H strips the h infront of everyone, parades her naked and tells everyone he took her virginity; I can digest all these, but the h must show reluctance, rebel against or smack his bearded face. "What are you going to do to me", is a mantra the h cannot stop from repeating again and again. I'm not finishing this series. This book is dark and has dangerous religious cults. I'm annoyed but I have seen many readers liking this book so you should still give it a go.

DNF - SPOILERS

Started off liking the book that lasted maybe 2 chapters (if that).

Heroine is timid and scared because she comes from a colony aka cult. She sees someone she recognizes from the colony gets scared decides to steal the tip jar from where she works and run. As shes out the backdoor runs in the Hero - MC member. He calls her a thief and wants to punish her. His punishment consisted of taking her into a room with other members having her strip infront of them, letting them look at her “pussy”. Soooo romantice, right? Well I continued thinking okay thats the worse part NOPE.. 49% Hero has sex with heroine where after to teach her a lesson yet again.. he has her walk out butt ass naked to show all the members they had sex. He then proceeds to tie her to a tree - again naked - where everyone can see her.

Watch out ladies this man is a dream!! Stopped reading at that point.

Ofcourse, heroine was tough and had balls of steel with the scary biker yet was running from the Colony priest man 🙄. All I can say is THANK GOD FOR KU!

The Spider and the unwilling fly

I already knew I was going to love whatever Raven Dark wrote. Why? Because this author can go dark. No heroes or heroines are safe, nothing is off bounds and hearts and flowers...pleeeeeeeease. Now knowing this and seeing the MC logo and steamy excerpt... what's a girl to do? Devours the pages quickly, ingesting every biker scene with nonstop heart pounding excitement!

Stay away from this book.
This book showcases the lowest possible outcome a human being could achieve in life.

If you know my taste of books, you know I like dark and kinky as well as alpha reads.
But this book here is simply disgusting and has nothing to do with that.

This is not a fifty shades of grey in a MC world, I expected it to be. Not even there a woman was raped and it was sold as kink.

There is no romance, BDSM or kink in this book. This is simply a rape, enslavement and torture of a woman that escaped a cult and lands in the middle of the worst MC I have ever read about.

I am not triggered that rape is involved, what triggers me is that the authors (it sometimes shows two authors for this book) tried to sell it as something else. Their arguments are that she deserves to be treated like that because she is a thief and because she physically reacts to being treated like that. We have the cult and we have the MC. Both treat people the same. The difference is only in how they justify their actions and behaviour. But nothing can justify enslavement, rape and torture. And forcing her to have sex with him or he kills her, no matter how wet she gets, remains rape. She tells him repeatedly no. The control, the emotional abuse, the rules, everything is the same. Still the authors persist in their silliness. The main female character registers that it is wrong, but the next second she doesn’t care anymore. The main male character, he doesn’t even realises or acknowledge his wrongful behaviour. He criticises everyone for their bad behaviour but that he does the exact same thing, never registers. Forced marriage, how horrifying. Forces her repeatedly to have sex with him.
Holding someone prisoner, how horrifying. Does exactly the same with her. Abusing innocent people, how horrifying. Does the same to her.
And still expects respect, loyalty and truthfulness. I have never in my life seen such idiotic backward thinking. And such a pathetic foot-matt of a female character.

God, it is rare that I ever thought about physically harming any soul on this planet, ever. But this argumentation and this work, brings me to my limits to not want to strangle and beat someone.

This utter lack of respect towards women. This utter lack of knowledge about BDSM is disgusting. This utter stupidity.

There is not one single female character that deserves respect and acknowledgment in this book. What i see is a patriarchal world, that I hoped we left behind 50 years ago. Where women stab each other in the back, put man before other women and watch while women get raped and treated like garbage. What disgusts me the most is, that it is even written by women.

It is exhausting to read, how the authors tried to put the multiple emotional threads of the main female character together and failed.
The various emotional threads in itself are totally comprehensible and understandable but put together like this, it is simply a mess and annoying. It simply doesn’t add up, unless this is a book about a woman that loves to be raped. But therefore there would have to be first a character that isn’t so deprived of the machinations of the real world by having being locked away from it her whole life, to actually acknowledge what is happening to her and to be able to give a consent.

The logic the MCs present is also really idiotic. When a woman is abused and beaten it is a mortal sin.
But they themselves treat women like fuck objects aka pieces of shit. And an appropriate punishment for a woman who stole a couple of hundred dollars is to get a bullet in her head or enslave her and repeatedly rape her.

Well, hello common sense and rational thinking.

No one thinks to ask why she acted the way she did and that it is out of character. Or that her knowledge and behaviour is at odds?!?
Not one single character is likeable.
Not one single character has enough brain cells to be interesting at all.

They all act like a bunch of uneducated hill bullies, yes bullies.

Not worth it.

The h was 19/20 the H 40/45 that kind of age gap gross me up...
The story is nothing new, with to much unnecessary violence, women being treated like trash, a lot of slut-shaming.
Again the h was a virgin running from a "cult"!

Evil’s Price is the first in a trilogy featuring Spider, the Devil’s Outlaws MC’s Sergeant at Arms, and Emma, a young woman who’s recently escaped a religious cult. This book is not for the faint of heart. It deals with extremely dark themes, and Spider is the furthest thing from a knight in shining armor swooping in to rescue the damsel. It doesn’t help that Emma has lied to him and the MC and that she refuses to tell them the truth of where she came from or why she’s stolen from them.
While Emma was raised in a religiously fanatical “Colony” that trained her to treat men as her superior, she’s far from a pushover. I absolutely love her as a character, and watching her learn to stand up for herself even when she’s terrified for her life.
While Spider is clearly an anti-hero, he isn’t without his redeeming characteristics. He is loyal to the club, and there are people in it he would do whatever it took to protect. I expect that he’ll have even more character development and added depth as the trilogy progresses.
I absolutely love how the author draws parallels between the cult that Emma has escaped and the Devil’s Outlaws Motorcycle club. For someone who’s spent her entire life sheltered and manipulated and lied to, Emma sure is intelligent and observant. She regularly comments on the misogyny of both institutions, and this self-awareness, both by Emma and by the author, made this into a truly phenomenal book.
This is only the first instalment in this trilogy, and it ends with a cliffhanger. I’m looking forward to seeing what the second book will bring!

Not a series I will continue

I was so excited to dig into a dark MC book. Unfortunately, this book just didn’t do it for me. First, I consider this more light gray than dark, which was disappointing. Second, I really didn’t like either of the main characters. Spider was a jerk and didn’t redeem himself at all. Emma/Stephanie was TSTL. I just really couldn’t care. Third, this book was so darn slow I started to skim to get to anything of substance. I felt like this book has a few sex scenes, a little violence and the just words, fluff. This book just didn’t resonate with me at all. Then when I got to the cliffhanger ending, I didn’t even care, I was just happy to be finished.

I won’t be reading the second book and there are way better, darker MC books out there in my opinion, Tillie Cole has an entire series revolving around an MC and a cult, and it is dark. This is just my opinion, from the reviews there are a lot of people that liked this book. I’m just not one of them.

I hate giving something a low review but I struggled to get through this book. I don’t mind dark. I’ve read some questionable things. But one thing I can’t understand and enjoy is reading about someone being forced to have sex when it’s not consensual. Personally I don’t enjoy reading something like that and find it a bit annoying when the character is back and forth between hating it but saying they like it. Besides all that, I did like the story line and because I wanted to know what was happening, I finished the book. I’m curious to know how it progresses but don’t know that I’ll pick up the next book.

Where do I even start with this review? Devil's Price was quite honestly the best book I've read this year. It's going to be very hard to top this one for me. First, if you're faint hearted definitely don't read this one. There are a lot of triggers. Second, if you're like me and you revel in the darker things in life, stop what you're doing and read this. It is going to leave you speechless and emotionally exhausted.
Emma is on the run. She gets help from the owner of a strip club and is very grateful. But she's constantly looking over her shoulder making sure she's not being followed. While she's working one night she sees the person who she is running from. In a panic she steals from the club and tries to leave town. Before the can escape the club she is caught by Spider. Spider is going to make her regret she ever stole from the club.
I loved how throughout the story you discover who Emma is little by little. She's an impressive character. Her back story is so detailed and unique. She has a very secretive personality because of what has happened to her. Another thing I loved about her is that she is surprisingly strong after everything she goes through! Very respectable!
Spider... Whoa. This man is menacing, lethal, terrorizing, and dark. He is not someone to be trifled with, let me tell you. In the beginning of the book I couldn't stand him. Was he hot? Definitely. Redeemable? Maybe. I would get so upset with what he was doing and hated him for it. But after I got half way through I was like um, what just happened? Why do I like him so much? Haha! He is freaking so sexy but so evil. He's hard to love but ultimately impossible not to love, if that makes sense. Get ready for the ride of your lives with this book!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVED THIS BOOK. Shout out to Raven Dark and Olivia Alexander for my book hangover and for feeding my dark side. You're both queens.

DNF. h was in a cult so is conditioned to be submissive (not in a sexual way more so the men are to be respected or there is physical violence). She waitresses at a strip club and is unable to look the men in the eyes because that was a condition of the cult. Everything that goes on at the strip club is a shock (understandably) and makes her very uncomfortable. One of the cult leaders shows up at the club, she panics and steals the tip jar so she can bolt, and runs right into the H. Obviously, you don’t steal from the club and the H stops her from leaving, this is where it all goes to shit because NOW when she’s in extreme danger she decides she’s going to fight her conditioning and sass him and act like he should let her go. H takes her into a room with other club guys and makes her strip in front of them, touches her in front of them, and I swear this girls inner thoughts are arousal. None of this jives with an 18 year old girl that’s known nothing but the cult. I’ve read some dark stuff but this was something else. H rapes her, humiliates her (ties her to a tree naked!!!), the club girls assault her, just horrible stuff. For a tip jar in a strip club. The club is horrible, the H was horrible, and the h was TSTL.

Tale improved with age!

Initial irritants inhibited my enjoyment... such as the over reaction to her crime of stealing the "tip jar" some of which she would have earned ,but more importantly the frequent threats to murder her over it and then wondering why she would fear him .He would then be upset, angry , guilty and seemingly confused she did ! The H was pretty much a misogynistic jack ass whose redeeming qualities took quite a while to reveal themselves and then were intermittent.
After a close call ,they finally develop some Intimacy at which time the storyline begins to expand, develop and become a bit more interesting ,only to end on a cliff! Even as the sequel awaits,I might take a break before moving on.

Love my MC Romance and Evil's Price ended up being a good read. The MC business I loved and Emma's escape from the cult was a big part that comes into play with Spider and The Devil's Outlaw MC. Spider oh my goodness that man was hot and cold. One minute I wanted to strangle a few times and the next loving his sweetness but do not last long before I want to strangle again. For sure my feelings for him were back and forth. I understood where he was coming from as the story progress.

Are all her characters sexual harassers and abusers of women? Nothing about this book was romantic, it was straight humiliation and abuse of the FMC. No way any of it is acceptable. Just no.

What a ride. What a dark, gritty, holding my breath to see what happens next ride.
I am not going to lie, I almost gave up on this one. Even as a lover of dark romance and MC, this one had a few moments where I almost couldn't stand it. However, I am so glad that I pushed through.

I felt like I was getting whiplash with my feelings for Spider. One minute, I hated him with everything I had and the next I was making myself see some kind of redeeming quality in him. At this point...I just don't know. I want so bad to LOVE HIM.

I am reeling from the cliffhanger and desperate to find out what happens next. If you have triggers proceed with caution. BUT, if you have a thing for dark, hot, makes you feel dirty for liking such a thing books then do yourself a favor and give this one a try.

Four "really liked it" stars

That cliffhanger!

This book had multiple angles of suspense, and kept me up into the wee hours trying to finish it before sleeping. Which I failed to do, incidentally.

There were some unbelievable elements that required some suspension of belief. But, in my experience, that is the case with nearly any dark romance. I have no beef with it.

Truth be told, I would not personally find Spider forgivable at this point in the story. But this isn't the end so he still has time to redeem himself for all he has done to Emma. Well... maybe. He has time to try, anyway.

I'm too wrapped up in that cliffhanger to write any more- time to dive in to book two!

Girl escapes from a cult only to end up as the prisoner of a vicious MC enforcer who catches her stealing.

Fast paced, fairly dark and steamy motorcycle club 'romance' (I use that term lightly). It was really interesting how Emma saw numerous similarities between the patriarchal cult and the misogynist motorcycle club. Check TW for this one because Spider is pretty nasty to Emma. She fights hard against both him and her submissive conditioning from the cult, but there's a lot of body betrayal and Stockholm Syndrome going on. I wasn't a fan of the 22 year age gap and the book needed one more strict editing pass to catch multiple errors. Don't think I'll continue the series.

Uhhh…..This is a dark read and it is also one of the best books I have read this year! Raven and Olivia have a great thing going! These 2 authors can write not only a heck of a romance but they must know each other really well because this book is out of this universe! The chemistry between Emma and Spyder is just explosive! One heck of a read! I want more from these two!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Boring waste of time!

Seriously repetitive, long drawn out, badly written rubbish. The character thoughts were cringing and Spider's repetitive 'threats' were not good. The heroine just constantly and repetitively thought of the colony and her friend Sarah, his 'threats', and needing to escape, but never actually trying to escape. It was all so boring and irritating.

Both main characters were unlikable, much of Emma's insta-lust thoughts were ridiculous given what Spider did to her. It also wasn't possible to like Spider after he deliberately hurts and humiliated herconstantly. I like a darker romance, they're my favourite reads, that's not the problem, the problem was that the writing was so basic it didn't create a dark read, just a stupid ridiculous read.

For example-

1) a girl raised in a cult, where she was not allowed to even look men in the eye, would not have so many immediate insta lust filled thoughts about Spider, a guy who is always hurting and humiliating her.

2) she wouldn't be wet when forced to strip in front of half the men in the MC. Then later, in front of the whole club of men and women.

3) Would she really want a man who painfully took her virginity using his fingers in front of all those strange men?

4) Or that he would suddenly not want all other women and only had eyes for her? I was rolling my eyes at that point.

5) It was annoying how the author kept contradicting her own characters, one minute she had these guys so brutal that they would kill an innocent girl just for trying to steal a tip jar with only a couple hundred dollars in it. But then making them out to be the nicest guys on the planet because they stop other guys from beating women?! It's ridiculous. They had none of the complexities of dark anti-heros

6) All the heroine's over the top, and immediate insta-lust filled thoughts for him were just too obvious and too much. Again it was like the author claimed this was a dark romance but chickened out by writing the heroine as completely in lust with him, and him sickly sweet, to make it okay what he does to her.

7) The heroine's constant back and forth about liking what he does to her but not liking what he does to her and all her guilt she feels for liking it, was irritating.

8) As was his constantly threatening to kill her in every chapter. Every, single, chapter!

9) The way she kept 'looking at the gun", as if it was all the author could think up to let the guy do what he wanted to her.

10) The way the hero thinks made me cringe badly at times. Like when he thinks "the MC Gods need appeasing and I will be the one to provide them their sustenance". Urgh! Awful.

It's very juvenile how he thinks, another example was when he deals with the bouncer 'He thinks guarding ths door will give him something to brag about to his mates. So I tell him to "Beat it, d**kwad", his face goes white and he scurries off'. It was cringe worthy it was so immature.

As for the writing-

11) The author's vocabulary is basic which made the repetition worse, because the same words are used so much. She keeps repeating the same phrases over and over dozens of times, just a couple examples, whatever emotion the heroine is feeling at the time melts away, or burns away, her mouth waters, loneliness or desperation 'hooks' into her. Sarah's out there... if the colony haven't found her, I have to find her" etc are all repeated dozens of times. It's just way too repetitive.

12) The grammar is really bad, especially when it comes to combined words like he'd, we'd, they'd. For example, "He'd showed us...". And the poor punctuation.

13) It's also a cliffhanger.

I like a darker romance but this just wasn't written very well. So honestly I don't think I'll read the next book, not even if it's free on KU. Basic and lacking substance behind the characters, their thoughts and behaviours. Boring waste of time! I checked the author's page and it's no wonder there is no substance to this story, and no real effort apparently put in to the writing because it seems this is one of those so called authors that churns out two books a month.

Great start to a new MC Series. Emma is on the run and hiding from cult leading who are trying to take her back. She steals the tip jar at the strip club and ends up being caught by Spider the Sergeant at Arms for the Devil’s Outlaws MC. Now she will become his slave will he find out the truth about her? Fast-paced read with lots of drama, action, suspense and steam. The characters have intense chemistry and the story really draws you in from beginning to end. I can’t wait for more! I loved it!

Okay so right from the jump this was intriguing. I do have to say though that the lack of communication was EXTREMELY frustrating!

With scenarios/tropes like this book had I would have expected the H Spider to atleast put in some effort to learn more about the h Emma. Wouldn't you? But by 60% and the H has yet to even attempt any discussions with her about who she is, where she's from, why she stole the tip jar and was trying to run. NADA. At first I was patient but by this point I'm just plain frustrated! I understand why the h Emma didn't give him the true reason why she was "stealing from the MC" at the beginning when he first caught her. She's more afraid of where she came from and the people there who're still looking for her than him. She has her family who are still there (at the Colony) that she worries about. So I understood why initially she wasn't upfront like some other heroines in other books might be. By 60% it's been 2 weeks of him treating her like a captive/sex slave and still nothing.

MY PROBLEM with this is that even her former boss Dee and her former co-worker Monica just sit back and watch her get taken and punished by Spider. I understand being upset she was stealing from the club and especially since Dee took a chance on Emma and Monica being upset that Emma was taking her tips too that night. They're loyal but again the lack of communication is killing me!

Why didn't Dee or Monica attempt to atleast tell the guys or Spider about Emma and her odd behavior and speak? Monica calls her "Martian Girl" because she was so sheltered and didn't even know what Coke Cola was. To me this was important information that in ANY other biker book the MC Prez or the hero would ask those who knew her or worked with her about her behavior etc, ya know?

Spider is just all "you stole from us" and wants to fuck her instead of killing her for now. It's just...random I guess. There's no real purpose here. It baffles me how none of the guys or the hero hasn't bothered to push for more info about or from Emma including her real name since they know her as Stephanie.

The age gap was also a little hard to get around. 22 year difference. Emma was 18 to Spider's 40 we come to learn. Not usually my thing... have a gap that big but considering I was already invested by the time his age was revealed.

But the way Spider just turns on her at the drop of a dime. Ugh. I was beginning to like him and then back to asshole souless monster. Poor Emma.

Again, super frustrating most of the time. Not worth it TBH.

Holy S**t! This was fire....

I'm going to start this review with a PSA: keep several changes of underwear handy because you're definitely going to need it! This book was dark and dirty. There's no sweet romance here but that's to be expected from an MC story. Please note that there is a warning at the beginning regarding triggers and I will reiterate - this is a Dark Romance meaning violence and issues of consent. If this isn't your thing please don't read it. However, if it is then strap on for the ride. The dark, growly, ahole alpha that is Spider will make you swoon and want to punch him simultaneously. The poor girl that leads this story is completely out of the depth while harboring a secret that's...well it's something. That cliffhanger though left me chewing off my nails. So, so, so good!

Awful

I'm not sure where to start with this book. I am unable to find one redeeming feature in the (loosely termed) hero. He is everything terrible about the male specimen.
From kidnapping to sexual assault, rape and torture. All which is done to a 18 year old girl. I am appalled by this character. I'm shocked I even have to write this but abuse is not sexy.
The fact that this book has so many glowing reviews and was written by two women as a romance is both baffling and upsetting.
While there were warning of triggers they failed to mention the main character would spend most of the book gleefully abusing the heroine.

Definitely liked Tyrant’s revenge so much better than this.
The main problem I found with this book was how the H treated the h over a small incident. Taking the tips jar? Wow, now she’s your slave? And all the other girls at the clubs are SO mean to her. The girl is innocent (too much if you ask med) and the fact that no one helps her out. I felt awful for her. This book ends in a cliffhanger but I’ll probably won’t read the rest of the books.

Action packed, sexy, fun, engaging and emotional adventure filled with danger, suspense and undeniable passion... an edge of your seat read from beginning to end and so hard to put down. Really enjoyed the charters I got to know on this journey.

Spider!

This was an awesome start to a new series for me. Emma is on the run from a cult when she runs across Spider. He is a true alpha bada$$ that handles the business for his MC. There's lots of action with some twists along with some hot sexy scenes. Can't wait for the next one!
