What do a former ghost, a half incubus, a confused human-cat hybrid, and a damaged orphan have in common?
Me.
Amber Whitman. Bearer of Lightning. Smiter of Evil. And a girl who’s trying to keep them from killing each other.
After we destroyed the Second Chance Academy, we find ourselves at the Magical FBI’s headquarters. The Assistant Director offers us trainee positions that come with a condition: ignore that our former principal was the head of a people trafficking gang. And leave the kidnapped humans to die.
I might be a petite blonde who’s scared more often than she’d like to admit. But I know what I want. And a cushy job at the expense of everybody else is not it.
I’ll do whatever it takes to bring down the bastards behind the evil master plan. Alone, if need be. Or with my men by my side.
The choice is theirs. All I know is that I’m ready to take names and kick ass.
This is a medium burn, spicy love story, full of adventure and excitement. Please note: don't read if you're not an adult. If you are, you'll find a love story between a girl and her four boyfriends. There's mm goodness, Fae hotness, and all kinds of shenanigans.
Amber and her guys have gone from the frying pan into the bowels of hell. They are supposedly safe now but it seems to be the total opposite. Kiernan's mother is the head honcho of the FBMA underground facility and there is something hinky going on with her. First, she hates Amber and the fact that Kiernan is part of her quint. She wants her son to train as an agent and leave all the others by the wayside. Second, she wants the group to forget about the other students that are trapped in Faerie and go off for months of training which should mean the others would be dead before they even finished the course. She is also doing her best to turn Amber against her men and vice versa.
Other strange things are happening, too. Julian has come back, er, different from his death. He holds the power to return life to the dead, but the dead do not always come back the same way they left. There is a blackness inside of him that infects them. He also has a couple of hitchhikers in his psyche that won't leave him alone. They show him horrible visions that could be glimpses of the future or just ways to drive him mad. He withdraws into himself and the others, even Amber, can't seem to reach him.
Macha has been returned to his human form but some of his characteristics are definitely still feline. He is also convinced that he saw his father at the ungerground facility when they arrived, but Callahan insists that no one with that name works for the organization. When Macha sees him again, the man has no clue who Macha is. He knows his own father and this is him, so what is going on? Then Macha disappears...
Lance cannot understand Amber's insistence on going back to Faerie to rescue the other magical humans. He just got his whole family back and he didn't want to lose any of them to the Fae. They have to get training and get stronger before they can have any hope to put up a fight. Amber just refuses to see the facts.
Won't say more. The end is not the end. There is more to come.
Please Note: Recommended strictly for adults 18+ because of steamy scenes and adult subject matters. Don't read if you're not an adult. If you are, you'll find a love story between a girl and her multiple boyfriends.
It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. Welcome to Second Chance Academy (or Farkas Academy for Magical Advancement). This is a steamy, slow-burn dark fantasy romance series depicting a spicy love story, full of adventure and excitement. If you like found family, soul mates, and steamy scenes, you’ll enjoy this series. Expect angsty action with lots of drama. A story about a girl named Amber Whitman who was abandoned by her family, and forgotten by her friends, but found by three boys and a cat. What do a former ghost, a half incubus, a confused human-cat hybrid, and a damaged orphan have in common? Amber Whitman, bearer of lightning, smiter of evil, and a girl who’s trying to keep them from killing each other. When they find themselves at the Magical FBI’s headquarters, they offer them trainee positions that come with a condition, they look after themselves, and leave the kidnapped humans to die. She might be a petite blonde who’s scared more often than she’d like to admit, but she knows what she wants, and a cushy job at the expense of everybody else is not it. She’ll do whatever it takes to bring down the bastards behind the evil master plan. Alone, if need be, or with her men by my side, the choice is theirs. All she knows is that she’s ready to take names and kick ass. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. I can’t wait to find out what happens next. I highly recommend to everyone.
When she is told to do nothing, our heroine can't accept that, so she and her men are going a bit rogue.
This is book five of the series. It works okay as a standalone, but I recommend starting at the beginning.
This is a paranormal romance with a reverse harem thing. The book has sort of a jail/academy setting that I felt was well done and frankly a bit creepy as well. Fortunately, we are (mostly) out of that setting. The characters also have a nice bit of depth to them and do get a bit of development in this book. Oddly enough (for me), I really liked the cat as he helped provide a little humor now and then. There is a bit of steam as well as some of the MM, so be aware of that if it bothers you. Overall, a very nice addition to the series.
Highly recommended.

So much is discovered and revealed in this book it is mind blowing. Just when we think that our heroes are finally safe and ready to move on from their ordeals we discover that what happened was just the beginning. The Quint seems to be falling apart and there are parties introduced that don't seem to have their best interests at heart. After getting tired to being pushed around the Quint decides to take matters into their own hands but we don't know if that is any better of a decision than just staying safe. The cliffhanger at the end only leaves me wanting more while feeling frustrated that I cannot know what is going on until the next book.

How do you rescue your friends when they are trapped in another realm and you are prisoners on earth? Your friends are being murdered so their magic can be used. You have to save the children of earth from the fae. First you have to get your guys to agree to figure out how to escape and how to find a portal to the fae realm. Once there, you have to figure out where the children are being held and pray some are still alive. The hope you and your guys are able to fight the fae. Nothing about this will be easy.
This is a good read. Things become even more complicated for the quint, and hard choices have to be made. I do like the complications with Bleddyn's return. I did struggle with the whole Macha situation, and things with Julian are so up in the air! I'm finding it difficult to wait for the next installment....
The pending feelings of doom gives Amber incentive to breakout and rescue her peers. This is one ultra hot steaming read. Betrayal and distrust are causing Amber much heartache and turmoil. Will they be together forever?

Second Chance Doom, the fifth book of the Second Chance Academy series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). After reading book 1, I was more interested in how the series wrapped up then taking the journey to get there, so I skipped ahead and had no trouble catching up. Enjoying the characters and will hop straight to book 6.
This book series only gets better with each book taking you an adventure full of intrigue and magic. I love the characters nd the story is ever-evolving which immerses you in the world fully while you are reading. I love books like this one.
As the series progresses, there are more and more mistakes. Spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes, using weary instead of wary, but also continuity errors and calling characters by the wrong name. It's like the more series progressed, the less it was edited.
Finding that the FBMA is corrupt, they release a fae captive and head into fae lands to save their friends. But they get captured, and are scheduled to be drained.
My readers are at me to finish my series. They're right, too. So to get myself back in the mood, I re-read my last book before getting serious about writing the series finale! Here's an excerpt:
"The fear of what was coming next was breaking me apart. Panic seeped into my thoughts. The plan I’d been so sure about broke into jagged pieces, and no matter how much I clung onto it, it was slipping through my fingers.
“Amber.”
I turned my head to look right into Kiernan’s eyes. I’d never heard him sound so stern. His gaze drilled into me, shoring me up at the same time as he was scolding me.
“Amber. Be strong. We will get through this and see each other on the other side. Don’t give them the satisfaction of seeing you cry. I love you.”
Tears streamed down my face, trapping my hair as I nodded. Kiernan winked his cheekiest grin, and my mouth trembled into a smile.
