Robert (or Rob) Van der Plas is the author of numerous books on cycling, including The Penguin Bicycle Handbook, The Mountain Bike Book, Bicycle Technology, and Bicycle Repair. He lives in San Francisco. He has been called as an expert witness in numerous cases involving bicycle-safety and patent disputes.
Floating bullet points in multiple columns on each page makes it look like the book was typeset in MS Word. I wouldn't call this a comprehensive guide. There is some helpful information but the images aren't especially memorable (with the exception of some included manufactures' illustrations of certain parts). Possibly a simple guide for total beginners.
