Marquesses, Muskets, and Murder

Rate this book
When a Marquess is murdered, Victoria Parker finds herself embroiled in an inquest tainted by lies and deception.
Now that her friendship with James Kensington has become something far more wonderful, spinster Victoria Parker is determined to make their relationship work. Yet this notion is immediately challenged by their differing views on how to mind Percy, the young boy who has been left in her care.
Then a new challenge arises.
When Lord Phillip Ridlington, Marquess of Longly, a client and friend of Parker Accounting, is found shot dead in Ashbey Park, Vicky suspects something very personal is at play. Whether it be a faithful butler or a wife who plays bizarre games, Vicky finds a host of nobles and commoners alike who all have a reason to want the marquess dead.
With conflicting alibis, grand tales of war, and a shameful secret someone would kill for, Vicky finds herself inundated by conflicting information throughout the investigation.
How will Vicky sift through the truths and lies to learn who murdered the marquess? And can she and James understand that just like in business, romance takes two to make it right?

Love💕 For Percy👦

ADULT Historical Recency Romance💕 and Murder Mystery💀🔫.

Another one of Victoria Parker's high profile clients, a Marquess, is murdered 💀in a nearby park with a musket🔫 stolen from a museum. A lot of suspects, disinformation, and lies come to light as Victoria💃💋 and James🐺, her business partner and love interest, pursue the clues to find the answer to who the killer is.

All the while, Vicki💃 must take care of Percy, a little boy 👦, whose poor mother has gone away to care for a sick relative. He's a street urchin who needs lots of love💕 and discipline. I enjoyed this aspect of the novel the best.

I also got this ebook with KU.

I love this series but can never figure out how and why anyone would share information in a murder investigation with an accountant. I also wonder why James would put up with her constantly second guessing him. It was really annoying in this particular book.

Victoria Parker was left her father’s accounting business when he died. James Kensington was a trusted employee & he now fronts the business because no one would do business with a female accountant! When Lord Phillip Ridlington, Marquis of Longly, a client and friend of Victoria & James, is found shot dead in Ashbey Park, Vicky begins to investigate. Now that her friendship with James has become something far more wonderful, Victoria Parker is determined to make their relationship work. Yet this notion is immediately challenged by their differing views on how to mind Percy, the nine year old boy who has been left in her care.
Another enjoyable cosy mystery. The pace is good & the characters have depth. I really like Victoria who has a nose for finding out the truth but as the number of suspects & lies mount she must sieve the truth out. She also has challenges both in the professional & personal life, the business is growing so they may need another employee & Percy looks set to be around for a while. I love how James & Victoria’s relationship is developing & deepening & Percy is a joy

Figuring It All Out . . .

Victoria Parker and James Kensington are in a relationship and will have some practice in parenting. Young Percy has been left in their care temporarily, and the two of them don’t always agree on how to handle him. Further, there is a murder to be solved. Lord Phillip Ridlington, Marquess of Longly, who is a client and friend of Parker Accounting, is dead in Ashbey Park. When Vicky begins to investigate who might have reason to shoot him, she is surprised at the number of people who would go on that list! Not only are there conflicting alibis, but the information she gathers is also conflicting! What approach can Vicky use to separate truths and lies to discover the marquess’ actual murderer? Will she and James come to an agreement on Percy’s situation?

This was a delightful story that I enjoyed from start to finish! The story line was well-paced and the characters were intriguing. I enjoyed the dynamic of having young Percy shake up their relationship a bit. Grab this exciting story and see if Victoria can once again save the day and uncover a murderer!

A woman scorned

Vicky has to sort out lies from the truth and take care of Percy whose mom has "left" him in her care! Vicky is annoying in her relationship with James! How James didn't leave her for a less mouthy and opinionated woman I don't know!!! He constantly tells her steps to take care of situations and she doesn't listen always to her detriment! He clearly loves her and has her best interest at heart but Vicky knows best until she doesn't!! There is a Marquess who had kind words for Vicky when she was belittled by other women! The dear man is murdered but is he dear!? With a shrew of a wife that plays dangerous games it is not clear who did it yet...clues are found suspects questioned there is a murder to solve and Vicky is on it!
I really think she should have taken the money from Percy mom if just to feed him and celebrate that selfish woman was gone!!!

The butler did it.....or did he? Vicky must sift through the lies to determine who killed Phillip, the Marquess of Longly. This story will lead you on a merry chase as you try to decide how much of each person’s story is fact or fiction. Along the way Vickie and James share romantic moments, when they are not interupted by Percy; and parental disagreements, as they take care of Percy while his mother is away. There are several heartbreaking moments, and a few that will have you shaking your head in disbelief. This is quick, clever and mesmerizing. This series is a welcome distraction and respite from daily stress.

Fantastic Who Done It!

This murder mystery was intricate, engrossing and enjoyable. Again it kept me guessing till the very end. All the various characters were well drawn and what a group they are. So much deception and lies to figure out. And what about Mr. Kent is he a rogue or guardian angel? As Vicky is forced to face her fears both romantic and business a young boy is unexpectedly placed in her care. She with her friend and business partner James must navigate their personal and business relationship. A very good read.

When a marquees is discovered shot in a park. Victoria and James begin another investigation. I really like these stories. Jennifer Monroe does an excellent job with these period murder mysteries that keep you guessing right to the last gasp. Intrigue, adultery, theft and murder all make for a wonderful story with great characters. Love Percy. It is nice that the slow burn romance between the two is finally hearing a little. I eagerly look forward to the next book.

Let the Games Begin

Things are no different in Victorian times than they are now. James and Vicky quarrel and get their feelings hurt just as most young couples do. Percy moves in while his mum is away caring for a sick sister. He provides much of the comedy as he acts as most 9 year old street urchins. Add to this, the murder of a friend. As Vicky investigates, she is abhorred to learn how bored society wives entertain themselves. Change is coming. Can Vicky survive it?

The fourth book in the Victoria Parker Regency Mysteries series, a well written story that kept me turning pages. Another crime solved, this has been a very good series with its mystery, murder, games, drama, suspense, and a cast of really good characters. I want to read the next book. Percy's mother was really something else. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Lord Ridlington, one of Vicky's clients, is found murdered, and Vicky investigates to find the person responsible. Suspects abound, starting with the lord's squirrelly wife. Subplots involve Vicky's relationship with James' their temporary guardianship of Percy, a street lad, and the possibility of increasing the size of their business.

A Tangled Web of Lies

Oh the messes Victoria and James can find themselves in, and then add in Richard Kent, young Percy and the despicable members of society, and you have yet another intriguing murder mystery. Thank goodness Victoria is sorting out her beliefs about boys and men and her feelings about James.
