This series continues to be a pretty random mix of normal manga style artwork mixed with an assortment of 4koma style panels in between the random subjects such as the past between brothers, making ice cream, an unexpected Halloween play, the arrival of a doll master, and a sakura blossom viewing party turned exorcism. Although the artwork is not one I particularly enjoy with many eyes being far to large and hair often weird it certainly does not detract from the stories which can be read a little at a time between other manga if you are one of those type of people that needs to switch off now and again between volumes.
I really enjoy the ‘main’ story in this tankabon, with the ‘stabber’ character. The way it develops over the couple of chapters is well done, and when you get to the self sacrifice I genuinely felt moved. I can't remember if these characters make a reappearence (I suspect not in the 5 volumes I previously owned and read, but who knows in volume 6) but I wouldn't mind seeing them again.
Otherwise this is an ok volume, the Vincent as bait storyline is sweet but a bit short to be truly emotional.
This one was a lot stranger than I remember it being lol. There were a lot of cute jokes in there and it was really easy to get back into despite it having been over 10 years since I've read the first manga in the series. I really love the art style too.
This second volume of vampire doll is a disjointed mess.
The first story deals with the reconciliation of twin brothers Kyoji and Kyoichi which I wasn't too fond of. Next we have a series of random bonus panels which again we're fun, but nothing special. The Halloween pumpkin king story's next. Awful story, only redeemed by the costumes which are gorgeous and plentiful!
It's only in the final story that this picks up - Hugo. We meet Kyoji's teacher of the doll making art Hugo and his Edward Scissorhand's style doll companion Dante. The story is excellent and so's the gothic artwork. We learn more about the relationship between Tonae and Guilt-Na
There's a bonus story in which the lord of the cherry blossoms tries to trick Vincent into going into his service. that's ok too, but not a patch on the previous tale.
We finish the volume with pages of bonus comic strips featuring some of the characters which are the kind of random Non sequitur comedy drivel that gives manga a bad name. AVOID.
This volume is uneven in tone and all over the place. What makes it readable are the characters and the costumes and artwork. I feel cheated by all the bonus comic strips and would have much preferred an extra vampire doll story proper instead.
It was weird because it jumped to different chapters in the story. It jumped to one story and then to another. The characters don't really represent the story.
