Sanditon on Reflection
Jane Austen began her last novel, Sanditon, in 1817 and wrote twelve chapters before putting it aside. With her death the same year, she never finished it.
Sanditon on Reflection is a regency era romance that tells the rest of the story as seen through the eyes of Jane Austen's heroine, Charlotte Heywood. This telling of Charlotte's story begins before Jane Austen's does in 1812 on a farm in the English village of Willingden near the south coast of England. 3 booksThomas Hamby, who writes as D B Thomas, was born in Tennessee USA. He is primarily of English and Scottish heritage. He shares his time with his Finnish born spouse between Florida and Finland. He is an actor and a writer.
In 2020, Thomas found himself engaged with an unfinished story. He was well acquainted with Jane Austen’s major novels, but the incomplete Sanditon, which she had put aside after writing only a few chapters shortly before her death, had not been in his lexicon until the Red Planet Pictures television series, Sanditon Season 1, was released in 2019. That series led to his first novel, Sanditon on Reflection, to complete the story as he imagined Jane Austen might have written it. It was published in Italian as Ricordi di Sanditon.
Holding Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees, Thomas is a retired diplomat, highlights of which are meeting three USA Presidents, several foreign heads of state and while serving in London, had the honour and pleasure of being presented to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, with whom he had a captivating, if brief, conversation about the importance of agriculture to the past and future of civilization.

This is exactly what a true JA fan would love. There is a back story that keeps you guessing throughout most of the story. No spoilers just check it out yourself

Come sempre questa casa editrice ci dona delle perle. Credo che avevamo bisogno di questo libro e credo che anche la Austen lo avrebbe apprezzato. Il personaggio di Charlotte l’ho amato da subito. Una donna forte e che nonostante le forti pressioni, sia sociali che di qualche singolo personaggio, non ha mai permesso di farsi influenzare ma soprattutto ho adorato la sua lealtà e la sua dolcezza. Mi ha fatto tanta tenerezza ma per molti motivi, sia come sorella che come figlia, come fidanzata e come amica. Davvero un esempio da seguire. Un altro personaggio che mi è piaciuto è stato Sidney, leale e onesto fino alla fine. Il suo passo indietro sul rapporto con Giorgiana mi ha dato modo di capire quanto lui fosse intelligente. Quello che mi ha infastidito di più è stato Tom (so che c’erano altri/e più anticipatici ma prevedibili) che ha sempre e solo pensato a se stesso, cosa che odio profondamente negli esseri umani.

The line as stated above bears sheer poignancy with the overall theme and context of the book at hand for it verily features the truer aspects of the book at hand for it also reflects a quest of someone willing to explore the world and the shades of the same would be briefly delineated in the below paragraph.
The book at hand remains to be 326 pages long and the overall theme of the book revolves around Charlotte Heywood who happens to be a character whose existence is presented before the work of Jane Austen and features her life as someone who's the only way to connect with the world is books and her dreams. As we delve further, the book has been divided into 53 chapters and the first chapter of the book starts with a brief introduction of Charlotte who happens to be 22 years of age, and things that pique her interest remain to be books and fascination with languages such as French and Latin and following the end of her classes, she gets occupied in helping her mother and her younger siblings. The second chapter of the book features a determined attitude Charlotte as she is excited to take her siblings to the woods as personally herself she had longed for its company. As the readers go further, each of the chapters tends to merge thereby creating a sense of synchronicity and the same happens with utmost subtlety as well.
The writing style of the book has been kept descriptive and the language as used does not remain to be as simple and the same does not work against the whole context but rather acts the opposite way as considering the time frame in which the book is set which is the early 19th Century.

While I really enjoyed the overall story and HEA, I'm not sure if it was an issue with the kindle edition or what but things like multiple people speaking in one paragraph, etc, sometimes made it hard to follow on who was saying what.
If this were to get edited of grammatical errors like that, I think it would truly be wonderful and would be in the 4.5 stars range.

Potevamo farne a meno? Forse sì ma tornare nel mondo di Jane Austen, per quanto qui fosse solo un’eco, è stato piacevole.

Avendo letto quel poco che la Austen era riuscita a scrivere di Sanditon e aver visto la prima stagione della serie tv, mi sono poi rifiutata di vedere la stagione dopo senza Sidney. Perché? Perché per me ormai non c'era Charlotte senza Sidney e non c'era Sidney senza Charlotte. Nel mio cuore accettavo solo loro due per un lieto fine e non volevo rovinare questa mia immagine romantica con altri terzi incomodi. Thomas ha dato luce a questa mia immagine e ha dato una mano alla Austen a completare quest'opera rendendo felici le sue lettrici.
Charlotte Heywood vive felicemente a Willingden con i suoi genitori e numerosi fratelli e sorelle. Ma un giorno, la sua tranquilla esistenza campagnola viene interrotta da un incidente in carrozza di cui ne diventa la salvatrice. Da questo imprevisto conosce i signori Tom e Mary Parker che per ringraziarla del suo aiuto, invitano la ragazza a passare del tempo con loro, a Sanditon, una zona balneare ancora in costruzione e gestita da Tom Parker stesso. La ragazza accetta volentieri così da allargare i suoi orizzonti. Scoprirà presto che Sanditon è ben lontana dall'essere tranquilla e monotona come Willingden e farà nuove conoscenze, tra cui Sidney Parker, l'affascinante fratello di Tom. Lui è scortese con lei all'inizio e cerca di tenerla a distanza ma poi le cose cambiano, l'attrazione tra loro è forte e le parole tra loro da amare diventano dolci come il miele. Ma il lieto fine per loro si allontana non appena ricompare un amore passato e i problemi economici della famiglia Parker dovuti a Sanditon. Quel luogo è un tesoro da custodire quanto una rovina per Charlotte e i suoi amici ma l'aiuto arriverà da qualcuno di inaspettato che si rivelerà essere anche una fonte di risposte alle domande della nostra protagonista su molte cose.
Charlotte Heywood viene descritta come una Mary Sue. Perfetta in tutto: studiosa, aggraziata, carismatica. A volte fino all'eccesso, come a compensare la sua controparte piena di difetti, Sidney. Lui è contraddizione, scontroso e pieno di sfiducia nel genere femminile. Ma poi si dimostrerà premuroso, altruista e passionale nel dimostrarsi degno di amore. Ho amato anche personaggi secondari, soprattutto la dolce Mary, che è stata un continuo sostegno per Charlotte e per Sidney, e Georgiana con il suo carattere ribelle e impulsivo.
Ho adorato questo libro, mi è quasi sembrato di leggere un libro della Austen, ma non posso negare che abbia dei difetti strutturali che mi hanno impedito di valutarlo con un punteggio pieno. La perfezione di Charlotte è troppa da sembrare anormale a mio parere, tanto che l'unica cosa in cui ha sbagliato è aver avuto qualche pregiudizio e avventatezza da farla sembrare ingenua. Poi la sua reazione nel sentirsi rivelare delle cose tanto importanti non mi ha convinto per niente. E non dico nient'altro per non fare spoiler. Poi il finale è stato troppo frettoloso con dei brevi riepiloghi su come sia andata la vita dei personaggi senza perdersi in descrizioni o in qualche dettaglio più. Solo l'essenziale che mi ha fatto storcere il naso. Ok, sono contenta del lieto fine per tutti ma avrei gradito una maggiore attenzione sul matrimonio di Charlotte e Sidney che era il più importante. Pazienza, Thomas ha fatto comunque un buon lavoro e gli sarò sempre grata per aver dato una continuazione a quest'opera che ha da secoli un enorme potenziale.

Jane Austen iniziò a scrivere il suo ultimo romanzo, 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗻, nel 1817. Scrisse 12 capitoli ma non lo portò mai a compimento a causa della sua morte avvenuta quello stesso anno. Con 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶 𝗱𝗶 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗻 l’autore, DB Thomas @db_thomas_hamby ha voluto dare il giusto e meritato lieto fine a Charlotte e Sidney spinto anche dal triste finale inaspettato della bellissima prima stagione dell’omonima serie tv del 2019 ideata da Andrew Davies. ( lo stesso dell’adattamento di Orgoglio e Pregiudizio del 1995 con Colin Firth).
In questo romanzo l’autore inizia la narrazione prima di quella scritta dalla Austen, è al presente, dal punto di vista della protagonista e parte dalla fattoria nel villaggio inglese di Willingden, dove Charlotte Heywood vive con la sua numerosa famiglia. La protagonista ci viene presentata come una ragazza in avanti rispetto alle condizioni delle fanciulle dell’epoca: sa il latino, il francese e il tedesco. Legge i classici, è una vorace lettrice di romanzi ma anche di Shakespeare inoltre fa da insegnante ai suoi fratelli più piccoli ma soprattutto è un’abile cavallerizza, sa sparare a aiuta il padre nella gestione dei suoi terreni. Un giorno la sua vita cambia grazie ad un incidente di una carrozza grazie al quale incontra Tom Parker e sua moglie Mary. Questo evento la porterà a Sanditon, una zona di pescatori che aspira a diventare una località balneare alla moda. Ospite dei Parker, Charlotte aiuterà Tom nella gestione del progetto e incontrerà il fratello, Sidney Parker, un uomo all’apparenza scostante e ombroso. Ma è davvero quello che sembra?
🌊 La scrittura di DB Thomas è semplice, lineare ma allo stesso tempo ricca di descrizioni e particolari tanto da renderla molto cinematografica, quasi fosse una sceneggiatura. Ad esempio, ho apprezzato l’interessante descrizione di tutta la preparazione dei balli dell’epoca. La narrazione ricalca le vicende della serie tv seppur con diversi cambiamenti a mio parere positivi. La caratterizzazione dei protagonisti è buona così come quella di Tom e Mary Parker anzi direi sono stati i migliori personaggi caratterizzati del romanzo, ancor più dei protagonisti. Avrei preferito un maggior approfondimento dei personaggi secondari anche se la storia sarebbe diventata poi troppo lunga. L’amore tra Charlotte e Sidney è stato abbastanza istantaneo, in effetti avrei preferito uno sviluppo più lento e sofferto come in Persuasione anche se una scena in particolare mi ha fatto emozionare. ♥️ La prima dichiarazione di Sidney è stata piuttosto fredda mentre la seconda mi è piaciuta maggiormente essendo più in linea ai canoni austeniani. Inoltre c’è una vena mistery che tiene alta l’attenzione del lettore anche se avrei preferito un miglior sviluppo nello svelamento del segreto. Ho amato molto i vari omaggi letterari a Shakespeare, Byron e alla stessa Austen così come mi son piaciuti i diversi lieto fine di tutti i personaggi che si prestano a vari sviluppi di nuovi ed interessanti romanzi. Nel complesso una lettura piacevole, godibile ed imperdibile per tutte le Austen addicted.

Charlotte Heywood è la figlia maggiore di un proprietario terriero a Willingden. Un giorno soccorre i coniugi Parker in seguito ad un incidente in carrozza. Li aiuta nella ripresa e questi le parlano di Sanditon, una cittadina di mare che Tom Parker vuole arricchire.
I due invitano Charlotte a Sanditon: la giovane qui entra in contatto con vari personaggi, tra cui Sidney Parker, uomo dagli occhi magnetici...

Ho apprezzato il voler dare il lieto fine dopo quella prima stagione che ci ha lasciato l'amaro in bocca. Ma, poche descrizioni poche reazioni, una eroina fin troppo brava a fare tutto e un eroe un in secondo piano. Si fa leggere, ma mi ha lasciato poco
