Tomas' dream has never been closer to reality. He's exploring uncharted territory at the very edges of the frontier, a place where he can settle and finally find the peace which has proven so elusive.
Unfortunately, they aren't as alone as Tomas believes. The mountain is crawling with mysterious creatures who behave like none he has come across before. When Tomas comes across a destroyed campsite, he's pulled into a battle that isn't his own. There's a malicious presence on this mountain, and it doesn't like humans.
Tomas' journey high into the mountains and deep under the earth will unearth secrets that should have remained buried forever.
Ryan Kirk continues to excel in this trilogy, ...hopefully....series
Ryan Kirk continues with a sharply written book two in an epic adventure of characters I truly care about. Well done Ryan Kirk, well done! Onto book 3!
"Eyes of the Hidden World" adds a touch of Lovecraftian horror to Western/Fantasy in the second book of the 'Last Sword in the West' series. Tomas and Elzeth continue their trek towards an unknown somewhere to find rest and peace, a place they both know they may never find or live to reach. Up in the mountains they find the body of a prospector. His young daughter is missing - it's not their problem so they try to find her anyway. They find Lyana but she's on a mission to kill her fathers' murderer and won't back down. Again, given that it is nothing to do with them, Tomas and Elzeth lend a hand. It was a very fast read and felt more like a novella than a full book. It's interesting but not as gripping as the first in the series. 2.5 Stars, raised to 3 Stars
I fell in love with Ryan Kirk’s Night blade series, but this ‘Eyes of the hidden world’ is my favourite book so far. I could not put it down. While I was at work, I was wondering what would happen next. At the age of 52, I was reading under the covers, so the light from my kindle didn’t keep my husband awake. A brilliantly written, exciting and addictive read. Thank you Ryan for the free download of First Unity which explains how the two main characters united. I am about to read this right now.
Same theme as first book, Tomas fights villan that is OP, can't beat it then is saved by sidekick. Some random thoughts about the story; Might be some spoilers... Tomas is not very smart. All brawn with little brains. Where did the bad guy in the tunnel suddenly come up with explosives? What was that city underground all about? It's interesting that Eric (I think that was his name) suddenly shows up and is not affected by the thing! Very convenient. There were suddenly guns??? There are lots of holes in this one, but I am going to read the next in the series.
A good second chapter in Tomas' journey. We learn more about Tomas, Elhaz and the sagani in general.
WARNING: If you're at all phobic about being stuck in tight underground spaces (as I am, a little), be prepared for some very evocative descriptions of same. But don't let that stop you from reading it. If you enjoyed the first one, you'll probably enjoy this one, too.
I don't like to give books a 5 star - unless they entertain me with story, characters, plots and originality. So I gave the two books in this series a five star. Think I'll add Kirk to my favorites.
Really interesting concept. Nice twists of religion meets mafia meets alien symbiosis. The fights are well told and sharp and the characters rich and deep.
