A poet’s work to name the unnameable, to point at frauds, to take sides, start arguments, shape the world, and stop it from going to sleep. ~Salman Rushdie
Missplaced by Ankita Singh is a collection of 15 poems inspired by her own life incidents. These poems talk about being deceived, doing and learning from mistakes, illusion, forgiveness and much more. The poems I liked the most were, “To the men who catcalled me and Mistakes”. The poem “Mistakes” was really very thought provoking. I highlighted the lines which I liked the most and have shared in post too. The writing style and language was simple and lucid. It was a very short read and can be completed in half an hour. But, thought behind this book was damn amazing. I am glad that I picked this book. Kudos to the poet for sharing her experiences in the form of words. I would recommend this book to the poetry lovers and I would like to ask the reader's who don't like poems to give it a try because it's too good and there is something to learn from it.
This is an anthology of selected poems that envisages stark realities and actual problems in life that needs to be addressed to. This book is an emotional ride which brings to light topics such as 'forgiveness', deception and the necessary survival kit in life known as LOVE, which is an inevitable topic for a poet. A page-turner which anticipates a certain strength or emotional connect with the poetess, this book is one which coverts sensitivity in the avid reader and elucidates one with the truth, with commemorative lines such as 'All beautiful things are dangerous' which truly had me amazed. From enlightening topics such as value of life to topics such as assaults and catcalling which requires immediate attention from the public. Certain atrocities especially endangering women are marked in loud enough but a solemn tone, which is not of due negligence of the race. All over, a strict churning and at the same time, a curing and captivating read. From a lover of poetry to another, this book is worth the read.
Wow! Such intense poetry that makes you emotional and in such few words the poet has established the message it wants to two through every poem. With every turn of the page the post hits you right on the Mark and leaves you with either a half or a contemplative mode. It's a small book but immensely strong.you should definitely check it out.
A collection of poetry that touched my heart ..the book starts with how are you..and the words that was poured in from then somehow touched my heart as we all are in a difficult situation...and this title popped up..which made me feel an immediate connection towards this book .. from this book I learned that sometimes what we see wouldn’t be the truth ... I did like each and every content in this book..it is a book which touches so many topics at a time and gives you a deep impact... a book which help you have a better outlook towards yourself and others ..a very quick read..one among those reads that would hold a special place in your heart
‘Missplaced’ is a poetry book that is bound to take you down the memory lane of the author and whether you want it or not, you will resonate with the stories she has tried to portray in these beautiful pieces.
The author has a fantastic sense of maturity and has been able to explain silent topics in a very simple manner. Definitely a must-read for anyone looking for something different from their usual reading material.
There are many pieces worth mentioning as they touch your heart at times, may even tickle your soul but I felt that “Words are all I have” to be the poetic piece out of the entire booklet.
Unbiased, unabashed, unconcerned Many learnt, some turned and a few earned
Looking straight in the eyes Ears to all your cries
Forever confusing you, embarrassing you, Igniting the fire within you
Ruthless and brutal as a sword Sweet as a lullaby’s chord
Never count my riches in numbers Nor the riches in my slumbers I am though amply rich Cuz words are my only switch
Words are all I have Words are all I have…
This poem takes the readers in a retrospective of the author, a place where words are the only riches she has and she is well off with them. A time where words have an upper hand over the other currencies, where words are stronger than swords and knives, where words weigh more than gold and silver, that’s her world and she is more than happy to be its protagonist.
The poetries in this book are ‘new light of the dawn’ type pieces. They give you a trailer to ‘Life’ as a whole. Not just the author’s life but the life of humanity as a whole. Some of the poetries may come off as a little amateurish but the meaning behind them is just so deep that you wouldn’t want to keep the book down. I would call these pieces ‘snippets to life’ as they remind me of how alive I am whenever I pick up the book.
Another beautiful verse from a poem called ‘Forgiveness’ struck a chord with me. It’s about how the author experiences life is above ego and holding grudges and how forgiveness and kindness is the key to a healthy life.
The biggest one took its own time though, It was slow and purposeful; it came in jigsaw puzzles, Only when I put the last piece together, I realized I had just forgiven myself.
Long conversations, cups of teas and cookies later, If only I had the last of questions to be asked- What have you learnt, if you haven’t made any Mistakes? Who would you be today if you wouldn’t have made mistakes?
A subtle reminder about how we cannot grow without our mistakes. From the poetry called ‘Mistakes’
From the poem ‘Dangerous’
Because for her, Even the most beautiful things Have their own beautiful ways of Hurting us, of breaking us.
The dogma of being a girl, of loving flowers and pink things, broken very easily
In the same way, the poetry ‘To the men who catcalled me’ is a tight slap to all the patriarchs and narrow-minded people who still roam freely in our country.
Whereas in the poem ‘Red Polka Dot Skirt’ the author has described an epic take on the rape crisis here in our country.
The second time, She found her voice, which said ‘No’ & ‘let me go’, As she ran back to her bed, she felt a lifetime of tears Flow.
The day she understood, She was no more a child, she let go of self-blame Yet, the fear is still the same.
From ‘Tell me things’
Tell me ‘Broken and Beautiful’ is also a fad Cuz bold so many times equals sad.
Missplaced by Ankita Singh is a collection of thought provoking poems that talk about the realities of life where a person gets a chance to introspect within himself/herself. The poems even though being short ; they are bold and written with straightforward mindset. They bring out the pain, fear, confusion, insecurities out and pushed the person to fight against them. This book indeed proves life changing with it's strong content.
The writer aims to make people strong along with highlighting the fact that what we see may not be true always as we can be deceived anytime.. This Collection of poems is not at all biased as these poems talk about both the genders. The poem I felt to be most realistic is the one named "Deceived". It talks about every single person. We all have been faking at least one thing in our life & most importantly we are faking our own happiness in virtual world and this poem hits hard with it's harsh reality and I could connect to it the most.
It is a must read by everyone as the poems will help a person to be stronger. There is a poem in this book called 'Tell me Things' which is the need of the hour in these times. It is a short read with just 40 pages, hence it wouldn't take much time. But this is a kind of book, that I would prefer to re-read again & again. The cover Is beautiful and the simplicity at it's best.
I look forward to reading more works by the Writer Ankita Singh as I loved her poems and writing style which Is flawless. Highly recommended to everyone.
