Let The Light Shine Through

Rate this book
Pro snowboarder Roz Andrews-Smith suffers a staggering blow the day he loses his best friend and teammate in a fatal accident, hurtling him off course indefinitely.
Blinded by grief, he abandons his dream, returning to his sleepy hometown in Upstate New York where he intends to drift the rest of his way through life.
While Roz may have sworn off boarding, that doesn’t stop him from carving into someone else’s line—a local skater girl who threatens to change everything. Again.

Gia D’Amico only has one plan—to fall in love with everything at least once. Everything, but not everyone.
Sounds simple.
It is simple.
Until the town’s most jaded resident puts himself in Gia’s way, challenging that plan.
Familiar with loss herself though, Gia recognizes Roz’s pain as easily as if it were her own and decides to help restore his appreciation for life. On her terms…and her timeline.

Let The Light Shine Through is a 94k-word mature new adult, small town romance standalone. Contains foul language, consensual sexual situations, mild violence, and drug and alcohol use intended for audiences 18+. Depression along with themes of cancer and death are present.

“Baby, I’ve been taken since you crashed my best friend’s funeral.”

description

Roz, a professional snowboarder loses his best friend during a fatal accident. Unable to get rid of the guilt and grief he gives up on his dreams and return back home to New York. There he finds something else to crave for or more like someone…. Gia, a local skater and bird watcher.

Being near Gia is like being kissed by the warmest rays of golden sunshine, but the shadow cast from her absence is like being spat on by the harshest of downpours, and even though I’ve spent my life adjusting to cooler temperatures, I’ll never get used to that kind of cold.

Gia has one simple plan in her life and that’s to fall in love with everything, with the exception of people. Her plan was supposed to be simple until she met Roz. Having suffered through losing someone close to her in the past she understands Roz’s pain and wants to help him get his life back on track but on her terms.

No matter how many times Roz tries to convince her of what more can come out of their relationship, she always finds away to push him away.

”You’re killing me here, Gia. Give me something.” Tears stream down over my fingers roaming his face.
“I’d give you my heart, cowboy, but you’ve already wrangled it away from me.”

Captivating, Intense and Beautiful!!!!

Let The Light Shine Through was the emotional and beautiful book that I didn’t know I needed to read right now. This story was captivating and intense. I had to remind myself to breath the entire time I was reading because it just made me feel so much. The beauty she was able to make you see and feel from her words was beyond perfection.

Roz is reeling from the death of his best friend. He’s struggling to find a reason or purpose to get out of bed every day. Gia is living her life with abandon after suffering her own loss and more. From the moment they meet their connection was everything…but Roz needs to learn to live and Gia needs to learn to believe in the future. She fights him at every turn but Roz has never been afraid of a challenge.

Again, I cried so many times with this book. It’s beautiful, poignant and full of reminders that life is a gift that you shouldn’t waste. It’s more sensual than overtly steamy although their chemistry definitely translates into the steam. And don’t worry there are moments of laughter mixed into this story too.

And I haven’t had a line in a book destroy me in a long while but after I read the below I had to stop and collect myself:

“Am I not enough?” His voice breaks, not just in his throat, but me as well. His voice breaks me. How could Roz ever think he’s not enough?

I cannot recommend this book enough!!

I can’t believe I finished reading this.

I never leave reviews but this was so bad I couldn’t help myself. I forced myself through this but with the ending I don’t know why. This was so juvenile but tried to be deep. It literally “built up” to nothing. I lost count of how many times I had to read the word “gawd.” Really? What effect was that supposed to have other than making the reader cringe?

The story was bad, the characters are worse. This is not worth your time.

This book Consumed Me! CONSUMED ME!! A month later and it is still consuming me!! No matter if it is day or night I find myself thinking about this story, about these characters. Author A. Marie did such an outstanding job with this novel and I am in complete awe.

LTLST is a story about tragedy, loss, perseverance, finding oneself, and love.

Gia D’Amico! I freaken love Gia D’Amico!!  She is a strong, caring, loving, outgoing, takes no bull, and needs no man type of woman. She is not your typical female lead and I LOVE that about her. I have never read a character that I have completely related too like I do Gia. Honestly, there are not enough characters out there like her. She is absolute perfection! Poor Roz had his work cut out for him.

Roz Andrews-Smith….this man! This man is exactly what Gia needs. God, I loved his vulnerability, his patience, and his commitment. No matter how hard Gia pushed, he was always up for the challenge and even issued some of his own. His personal growth throughout this story was amazing and made my heart swell.

These two were a perfect match for each other. When one pushed, the other pulled. When one ran, the other followed. No labels, no expectations, they accepted each other as they were, but pushed each other to be more at the same time.

This story is the perfect mix of seriousness with funny, sadness with sassy, HELLO SEXY times with utter frustration. And, I loved every minute of it.

This book and these characters will forever hold a special place in my heart!!  Definitely one of my top reads E.V.E.R.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this elevated, incredibly written book. Let the Light Shine Through is a poignant story about loss and grief and two people dealing in very different ways. It is without a doubt one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful stories I've read in quite some time and it's now on my favorites list.

Gia. My girl Gia. This firecracker of a young woman is loyal and loving, and doing her damn best to make the most of this life. She's lived a full life in spite of her young age, and when she opens her arms to accept you into her circle, YOU SPRINT TO THAT LIGHT! This is just what Roz can't help doing, as shocking to himself as it is. Let's talk about Roz. Holy gut-wrench does this guy break me. He's struggling to move forward day by day and he's a shell of his former self. The way that Gia perceives this so accurately, and the way that she guides him to live life to the fullest is remarkable. Little does she know that Roz will change her own trajectory irreversibly.

I haven't said enough, and this review absolutely doesn't do this book justice. It is a forever must read and I feel so special that A. Marie has chosen to share this story with the world. The story and these characters are enduring, and they will always have a place in my heart. Well over 5 stars deserved for Let the Light Shine Through!

I’m a mess of emotions, I’ve come across A.Marie and her newest release and I don’t regret it one bit. This was raw, emotional and realism written on paper. I couldn’t get over Roz and Gia’s relationship, the way they met to the way they fought there feelings for each other. Roz is grieving, Gia is suffering, together they find the light shining through.

Weirdly I sat at my back window staring at Cardinals yesterday, and if you want to know the connection, read this book!

5 swooping, flying stars for Gia and Roz.

Gia is stuck thinking her future will look like her past and Roz believes his past is over and he has no future. The push and pull between them left me wanting to yell at them to just get together already but I love a great slow burn and boy did this deliver.

This story held all the angst, complicated love, and deep emotion I was craving.

I’ll be stuck in a book hangover now!

My only complaint is the Blue-Footed Booby was never once mentioned. 🤣

Thank you, A Marie, for letting me read your baby early!

A. Marie has done it again! 👏🏼 A. Marie has an incredible way of making you fall in love with characters & never wanting the story to end. It felt so real and raw when describing Roz’s depression & his process to being able to feel alive again. The story takes you through an emotional rollercoaster and it’s too good to put down. 💕

Gahhhh. I’m in awe of the words and characters A. Marie writes. Let The Light Shine Through is such a beautiful story of loss, grief, love, and LIVING.

I immediately fell in love with Roz and Gia. I felt for them and while they have really heavy shit to sift through, there is still humor in this story. Be ready for an emotional, angsty, & STEAMY read.

Roz is dealing with a lot after the tragic accident that claimed the life of his best friend.
Because of this he's given up on his dream as a pro-snowboarder.
Gia wants to fall in love with everything around her but that doesn't include falling in love with someone.

Gia is scared that the past is going to repeat itself and Roz no longer feels like he has a future.
It's a beautiful story is full of grief, angst and how complicated love can be ❤

But the smut is perfect too! 🔥🔥
Roz is one of the best at dirty talk and the steamy scenes are extremely hot!

As there are heavy issues talked about, I'd definitely check TWs beforehand.

“Even the most hydrated peeps struggle to ingest being left behind by someone they love. Keeping it down is a different story entirely.”

This book means so much to me right now. I lost 3 loved ones recently and this book was a great reminder that you don’t have to grieve alone. It’s all about finding love in the most unexpected times and what that love does to you in the most sorrowing times. Knowing that you always have a choice and there is no one right answer.

Roz and Gia found each other while they are both grieving over their loved ones. One choses to move forward and live their life to the fullest while the other is at a standstill not knowing how to move forward. It is with the love and support of the other that they both found a middle ground.

I learned more than I ever thought possible about birds in this read. That showed me the true passion and dedication that the author puts into research and story telling!

Roz and Gia’s story was painful but also very beautiful. They both had their own baggage and trauma to deal with but somehow managed to find solace in one another. I was so worried about the direction the author was going to take this book, the further into it I read. But I trusted her and was very, very happy with the ending!

Phenomenal! An emotionally complex and heartwarming love story

The sexual tension? Dripping.
The angst? Fist shaking.
The heartbreak? Chest squeezing
The love? Soul fulfilling.

I just loved Let the Light Shine Through. This is a must read love story! A. Marie has this ability to pull you into the story and keep you there. I read this book in one sitting, it was that good. I related to the characters instantly. I loved being on the emotional rollercoaster that is this sports romance about Roz, an ex professional snowboarder, and Gia, a skateboarding four wheeling hometown girl.

Roz and Gia’s love story is like traversing down a snowy mountain, instead of speeding down it. All those zig zagging lines pushed and pulled them together at the right place and time, even though it made the journey longer they ended up right where they needed to be.

Roz and Gia have this immediate connection that neither of them understands, especially Gia. She doesn’t plan for Roz any more than he does for her, but Roz accepts his heart's calling and never lets her go. And let me tell you…she really tries to make him.

The push pull between them is so good! Gia pushes, Roz pulls her back. Gah, I loved! Just when I felt like I couldn’t take it anymore, and I wanted to growl at my kindle, I was hit with the combustion that is their connection. It had me fist pumping the air in satisfaction!

Roz just blew me away with his loyalty and fortitude when it came to Gia. He never, not once, thought about giving up on her, or his feelings for her. Even when she was pushing him away, he focused on winning her heart battle by battle. Dude legit made me swoon and cry.

Gia is complicated. While she made me mad for trying to push Roz away, her reasoning was completely understandable. I loved that no matter what, Gia did stay true to who she was. I like that Gia was not your typical FMC. All the things that made her different had Roz falling for her from the start. His acceptance of her, as is, made my heart swell!! We need more men like Roz in the world!!!

Grab a copy, a cool drink and park yourself somewhere comfortable. If you’re like me, you will not want to stop once you start.

“Your turn. Tell me what you want, baby.” “A million right nows. I can’t change yesterday. Tomorrow doesn’t matter. I just want this moment right here, right now, with you looking at me like I hold the world in my hands. I want it a million more times,” her voice wanders off, “but tonight will have to do.”

Roz & Gia, both dealing with grief in different ways. Gia is fierce & adventurous; focused on living life to the fullest after losing her mom to cancer. She has an affinity for birds like her mother & categorizes everyone she meets by the type of bird they reflect.

Roz, a professional snowboarder is grieving the loss of his best friend in a snowboarding accident. Roz’s grief has overtaken his willingness to function. The until he meets Gia, who changes his outlook on life.

Together, they learn to make choices together that helps them overcome their grief. Along the way, finding their soulmate!

Super cute banter, fantastic chemistry, lots of feels. I struggled with the last 25% of the book mostly because of their ages & choices they were making, but overall enjoyed the story. I’d recommend, for sure.

5 ⭐️│3🌶

I don’t think any review I could possibly write would do this book justice. It consumed me from the moment I started it. I fell in love with Roz and Gia from the very beginning and I couldn’t put this down. It was truly captivating.

Throughout our lives, our paths occasionally cross with people who capture our attention and we’re drawn to them like magnets and that’s what happens here with Roz and Gia. Their story, although born out of grief, is so incredibly beautiful. I felt all the angst and emotion as though I was living it myself.

“𝗔 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘀 𝗚𝗶𝗮’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗮𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗜’𝗺 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗴𝗹𝘆 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀, 𝗳𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁… 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗜’𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝗵𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗿, 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵. 𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗜 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁.”

Don’t even get me started on the spice. The sexual tension, angst, and banter were perfect. 🔥

I don’t want to spoil any part of this story for you. Just know that I read this cover to cover in under 24 hours and cried several times. It was beautiful. Utterly beautiful. ✨

There are a lot of TWs so I would recommend checking those out before reading.

Loved the character development for both MCs and, surprisingly, all the references to birds. This was an emotional rollercoaster from the get-go with both Roz and Gia dealing (in different ways) with loss and grief, both past and present. Their story felt so raw and real as Gia tried her best to bring Roz back to life and to want to live again. Also loved how Roz was not afraid to show his emotions throughout this book, and he made me cry so much in the last few chapters. One thing I will mention is that I absolutely hated the use of "gawd" and had to skip over that word each time it was used.

I wanted to love this book. I gave it a 3 for the story and the meaning behind it. But the characters just didn’t connect with me like I hoped they would. I had read the Creekwood series by A Marie and absolutely loved those books. I liked Roz but didn’t absolutely love him and Gia was a little too much for me. Regardless, I enjoyed the meaning behind it and the idea of grieving and how everyone grieves differently. I look forward to more great reads by A Marie!

Roz and Gia's story is definitely emotional, but a beautiful one. They went through a lot, lots of grieving, pain and suffering. It was a slow burn with lots of angst too. It was quite a journey for them to just get together. As I said, it's a slow burn. And there were times when I want to slap them and be with each other already. It's frustrating but a beautiful story nonetheless.

3.5☆, rounded up.
I enjoyed most of this book. The grief in the story was really well portrayed, and the watching that Rollercoaster was beautifully done.
I did like roz but I really struggled to like Gia and I found it was a lot of build up.. for something that had not happened. The ending also felt super quickly resolved.

I was originally super annoyed by the FMC but she obviously had reasons for her behaviors (I was still annoyed).

The story was beautifully told and the character had wonderful chemistry. I love books that have very real elements and the characters are flawed/ so real. This had all of that. I love the MMC constant pursuit. Their banter was so good. I was definitely tearing up by the end.

I wasn't the biggest fan of this book. The juxtaposition of what the two main characters want from each other was so drastic, it was kind of annoying and distracting. I was excited for this book and it did not live up to the expectations. Roy was a little much and Gia was honestly quite frustrating.
