There are universal spiritual laws that govern the success of our lives, and Pride Versus Humility explores one of those laws that is often overlooked: ""Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted"". (Matthew 23:12) With candor and biblical force, Derek Prince confronts central issues concerning pride and humility. As always, what he shares is not only insightful but also immensely practical. Ranging from the vital role of humility as we draw closer to God, to the absolute necessity for humility in any position of leadership, to the indispensable role of humility in our relationship with others, the contents of this book can have a life-changing impact on you as you learn the hazards of pride and discover God's perfect pattern for humility.
Derek Prince (1915-2003), was an International Bible teacher and founder of Derek Prince Ministries International, wrote more than fifty books. He was born in India of British parents. Educated as a scholar of Greek and Latin at Eton College and Cambridge University, England, he held a Fellowship in Ancient and Modern Philosophy at King’s College. He also studied Hebrew and Aramaic, at Cambridge University and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. His daily radio broadcast, Derek Prince Legacy Radio, still reaches listeners around the world.
Aside from certain redundancies, this was an important study. And maybe the repetition is for the purpose that we as readers really understand the theme. Humility is the key to success and a close relationship with God. Concise, easy to understand, and perfect to highlight for reference later, Pride vs Humility was a good reminder for me to keep my focus on the Lord’s plan and not my own.
Despite its size, this is one of the most profound teachings I’ve read. In an area that I personally struggle with, thanks to this little book I am now making a breakthrough! Hallelujah! Thank you Derek Prince, an all round piece of 5 star worthy brilliance!
I think we all need to read this book at least a few times in our lives because pride is a very hidden sin. We all have pride in our lives , hidden in different actions or attitudes and that is why is very hard to see this sin but we need to see it in order to please God because how the Bible say “The LORD detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.”-Proverbs 16:5
The truth is that you cannot hear God or listening to Him if you have pride in your live, I pray that God reveals to us the sin of pride so that we can go to Him and humble ourselves!
This book takes you through the difference between price and humility step by step. It's shows what the bible says about reach one and how God views each attitude. It shows how we can personally overcome pride and approach God and fellow believes in humility.
A very good book indeed, as always Derek Prince gives a practical approach to this subject, not just the theory, and challenges us to live a life of humility and reject pride.
Its a short book and easy reading yet so convicting. If there is one key takeaway from this book, it will be the author's emphasis and repetition of Matthew 23:12 "For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted" (NIV). Yes, the author has been repetitive of this verse all thoughout all chapters of the book - but I dont mind. As Christians, we need to dwell and diverse of this verse because pride is a very deadly yet subtle sin.
The summaries and constant focus on leading a reader through the book with overviews, goals, recaps, highlights and summaries with questions and reminders was good.
The principles in this book are great, but it is bloated with repetition and overpriced. It's a short book but could be half the length and half the price. Sad because Derek Prince is such a remarkable teacher (books actually written by him are not like this).
